in the last 7 days we 've heard the names fischer wanyama zouma zaha. what about vadillo from betis left winger has he reovered from his long term injury and is he still an option.
vadillo and zaha too long term prospects on the wing
zouma and keane two good young prospects at the back.
wanyama a bit of steel
fischer and henriquez two long term prospects up front
set for years to come transfers i'd be happy with

What about will keanes, James Wilson up front? Adnan Januzaj and mats daehli on the wings tunnicliffe for some steel Powell and Andreas Pereria for the creativity?

Good post Caolain. Always good to see fans being passionate about seeing the next generation being given a chance .... I'm sure we have a few gold nuggets in the youth but we'll never know if they never get a chance.

Vadillo is top class, I'd take him here in a heart beat. And realistically, I don't see Tunnicliffe making it here, he'll get a few games like Brady did but he won't quite cut it.

And Caolan, do you think its likely that they'll all come good? When does that ever happen?

Ok KlOOT,
I don't doubt you can take it by the way ;)
being from Manchester doesn't make you anymore of a fan than someone from London or China..
I grew up moving around and have no ties to Manchester, I had to wait until I was 28 for my first trip to OT(Scholes testimonial) and cried when I walked up the steps to my seat. I've supported united RELIGIOUSLY ever since I can remember and it is a part of my life, a part of me! I was born in 83 so I've been lucky enough to have known a successful United side barring the first couple of seasons. I could write an essay about how much I love MY club. And yes I own a shirt and watch the games where ever I can, mostly online but If I could afford to go to OT every week I would. Honestly mate the Glazier ownership did worry me at first but the buisiness model is solid and results on the pitch are outstanding. I don't want to enter into a Glazier debate with you but I do respect your passionate views on the subject. The one thing that is down right insulting is when people question my eligibility to be a "real" fan because I'm not from Manchester. There are things that mean we relate to a club beyond sharing the same postcode.
People are passionate about United, don't belittle that mate it's offensive.
Bren,

Believable13 Unbelievable3

Top post Bren...reading some of KLOOT's posts on here makes me downright angry sometimes! I've never had the privilege to go to OT, but I can't wait for the day I do. I know how much I love Manchester United and I know how much 99% of the people on here love the club as well (baring the trolls of lfc, blair etc!) and if someone can't understand someone else's passion for the club...then they really need to consider rethinking their attitudes!

Evening all,

Can I just say as a regular reader of your page that the the one thing that sticks out most from pretty much all of you that post and in particular the regulars is that you are passionate supporters of your team.

Yes there are glory hunters but that goes for all the big clubs.

Why should where you live be a bar to who you support, I don't care where anyone lives who supports Arsenal, you grow up to follow your own club or another, but if you love football you become passionate about the team you've chosen to follow, that's football and why were all nuts about it.

Why shouldn't someone like Zee get a passion for United and follow them.

KLOOT you should never blow someone else's candle out to make your's shine brighter.

Ok, I know this won't make me popular, and I am loathe to revisit old stories, and whilst KLOOT may be somewhat over dramatic....

...the acceptance by some of you of the debt the Glazers piled on our club is shocking. Yes, yes, I know our commercial deals have improved but our club was mortgaged so the Americans could buy it. I realise the debt is reducing..using money that could have been used to reduce ticket prices or buy new players. I don't have a better model, and I know we have to be careful what we wish for...but I can't accept that incurring huge debt interest payments was good for our club. I'm nearer to KLOOT than most of you on this one it appears.

Let's move on, some of us have dealt with it, some of us haven't.

AJH

Believable5 Unbelievable8

AJH

No one is happy about the glazers loading debt on the club to insinuate otherwise is downright insulting to even a Neanderthals intelligence. What we are saying is that they haven't other than that, which ok is a big cross against them is they haven't been bad owners.

Our marketing has sky rocketed, we have still made a number of big purchases, FFS we spent 60 million last year, and bought RVP and katana this year, and what's more unlike some owners they don't stick their nose into team affairs.

Agree3 Disagree0

AJH,

No one has justified the Glazers ownership and supported their reign, all fans on here have expressed their disappointment of the way we have been thrown into debt, however what the majority of fans have done is except the position we are in and support the team.

I have my Gold and Green scarf, I supported the Red Knights but end of the day, the Glazers are not going any where. Fact is, the debt is coming down, we are still competing and in 2, 3, 4, 5, 10 years when the debt is gone we will be in a strong position. But until then, I will pay my fees, I will travel up and down the country and across Europe to support United because I am fortunate that I am able to this but this does not make me any better then any other fan who watches on TV, listens on the radio, streams it on the Internet, in fact, the length some people go to to follow United who can't go to games and the passion they have for the club, you could argue they are bigger United fans then myself so KLOOT shows a lack of class, maturity, dignity to use the geographical argument about supporting a club and this is why people take offence.

Point of note, my Dad's family are from Ashton Under-Lyne but I was born and bred down south but I own a season ticket, I've been to Galatasaray, Braga, Cluj this year, I was in Barcelona, Moscow, Rome. I count my blessings I am lucky I can do this but I will always take people's views and opinions on Manchester United and I may not always agree but football is about opinions and as long as people share their views with passion and love for Manchester United FC, we will always have something in common. Manchester United is a multi cultural football club and without the support of everyone up and down the country, across Europe, Asia, Africa, America, KLOOT wouldn't be able to have the experiences we have all had, the joys, the heartaches, maybe he should appreciate what we have at United and if he is so anti-glazer there's a small club down the road called FC United to follow and if that's not good enough then a bit further down the road an even smaller club called City who can't sell out on match days so I am sure they would welcome KLOOT's support.

Big Brother Time!!

Ports {Ed007's Note - My father and his family stayed in Ashton Under-Lyne for a while after they left Cork, I still have an aunt down there.}

Agree7 Disagree0

AJH let's not be silly, few of us like the fact that the Glazers deeply affected the club with their debts, but to keep whining about it and mistreating other posters ( KLOOT ) does not make the debt go away. So we have to support the fact that manchester united is owned by the Glazers and they can do whatever they want.

Our hands are tied on this, and some might actually prefer to look at what the Glazers did well, because after all they are the owners of the club. Its bad from a fans' point of view, but that;s how things are.

Mick

Agree5 Disagree0

Anybody who thinks the glazers are doing a good job and are not affecting our potential on the pitch do not have the best interests of utd at heart.

Agree2 Disagree4

As I said, KLOOT may be over dramatic and I wasn't trying to throw stones, I'd rather it never came up be honest. But to say that they have been good owners...other than the £500M they cost us is something of an oxymoron. I'm not defending KLOOT's stance as it can be somewhat immature and we do have to accept we are where we are. It's just it still pisses me off. Sorry...

AJH

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed007, we may be related :) my dad's cousins are still there.

Just to piss KLOOT off even more, I was supporting Razor Ruddock in Celeb BB, ex Liverpool :)

Ports

Agree0 Disagree0

To be honest AJH I think you sum the whole debate up perfectly with your last sentance:

"Let's move on, some of us have dealt with it, some of us haven't."

To me the divide on this site is purely, on the one side the majority who have dealt with it and moved on and would like to look towards a positive future...then Kloot and a few other's who can't move on or choose not to.

That really sums it up for me because after all not one of us is happy at leveraged nature of the buyout. So it's not fair to say that. It is each individual's choice whether to accept it and move on. But for those who can't move on, I'm not sure it will get you very far.

Gav

Agree0 Disagree0

Forgot to ask one thing AJH - you say some fans "accept" the Glazer debt. That's an interesting turn of phrase. Can you please explain what exactly you do to 'reject' it? Do you stage protests or something? Truth is, we all hate the debt (obviously, who likes debt!) but the rest of us just get on with the positive stuff instead of worrying about an inevitibile negative, which thankfully is getting better each season.

Gav

Agree1 Disagree0

Some people are optimistic, and some people aren't. Nobody wants the debt, not many people want the Glazers, but this is the situation we are in. Surely just supporting the club is more important then just criticizing the people who own it?

Jono,
The manager doesn't make excuses he makes decisions. I don't think playing Jones in midfield will affect his development adversely as a centre back if that is indeed his long term position. I would like to see us sign a new midfielder moving forward which I'm sure is the plan but it has to be the right player. .By this I mean compatible with the squad and the Manchester United ethos. We shouldn't underestimate the importance of a strong collective mindset. In the past we've beaten teams with better personnel on paper both in games and in the league because the Manager is exceptionally skilled at getting a group of men to function as a unit. I think this is why we haven't moved on certain targets in the past when it seemed to us mere mortals to be an obvious choice. I think a new midfielder is imminent but it's not because the Manager has ran out of excuses!
Let's make sure we all drive safely this weekend guys.
Bren,

Believable6 Unbelievable2

Regarding Jones I think fergie sees him as an O'Shea type utility player, not that that's bad as its a very important role... i'm not comparing him to O'Shea regarding his ability etc just think its the role he plays at the club...maybe i'm wrong... opinions welcome.

Rouge Diablo :)

Agree3 Disagree3

Pesonally I think Jones will be a top combative CB in the long term, taking over from Vidic. But in order to give him game time now the manger will play him at RB or DM as we have many options ahead of him at CB. But 2 of those options are in the last stage of their career so he'll get more chances soon.

Good post, Bren, by the way.

this is a fact from a good source the glazers have set a limit of 20 million on goalkeepers, defenders and midfeilders and 25 million on a striker they are unwilling to break this structure for any player that is why we missed out on modric and the young brazillian and went for kagawa as the cheeper option they also made a bid for an unamed striker at the start of season think it was either falco or the guy from napoli but the price was too high

SAF clearly has faith in the old guard, far more so than giving youth a spot on the bench instead but whether he sees it or not Scholes has not performed once this season, Giggs has had a good 20 min showing v a crap Wigan team and played a cracking pass against west ham. Outwith that nothing of note. Ando has played more hames this season than most but due to his 289th injury lay off since he has been with us he has been un available for another 6 weeks. Jones is a CB that has fallen into the utility man tag that can help out in the middle to the detriment of how the team should work. We should be playing young players in their correct positions not hauling them around the pitch to give them a game here there and everywhere.

So of the 5 options we have for 2 positions 3 are not good enough. As I said without Clevs or Carrick our CM options are that thin that we could get hammered by teams like fulham, wait that has already happened.

SAF has used fletchs return, Scholes return, jones and Giggs covering as excuses for the last 4 windows soon to be 5. During that time we have spent 31m on wingers in young and Zaha 18m on a young keeper, 28m on premium English defenders yet thinks players like Vidal, Cabaye, Dembele, Martinez etc are not good enough in comparison to what we have. His words previously were cows in fields and won't pay unless they will improve the team. Sorry but all of the above would walk into our 11 never mind fill a 6th squad place mate.

That is the major issue. If we were to get 2 CMs I would be hoping for 2 major players that are first team players not squad youths or unproven players. We have enough of them coming through. So if that ends up the case Carrick and Clevs will be subject to bench places or squad rotation slots which is where they would be if we had a cm like most of the other elite teams.

And I think WS was always coming for the deep quarterback role taking over from Scholes. So IMO he would not have been effected by the Kags signing.

Jono

Believable5 Unbelievable7

I think that we will move for Cabaye in summer to be honest. Sneijder wasn't godo value, and he obviously didn't feel comfortable with moving for players like Vidal (who was unproven before Juve) and ppaying silly money for Martinez. SAF likes players with finess so I think that might he why we let Dembele slip through the note as he is purely a power house..

Fresh!

Agree0 Disagree5

Oh and the Zaha bit on my previous post was just me saying I don't understand it as we have got him to replace Nani so all we have done is replace a speedster with a trick and no end product with the same but 4 years younger, to me that makes no sense especially as with only 1 year left on Nani's contract we will be lucky to get 15m and break even and more so the signing of players like Kags should be the move to a Manchester variant of the Barca style but that won't include wingers as such, if you get what I mean.

Jono

Agree2 Disagree2

25 Jan 2013 19:01:36
When Newcastle signed Cabaye how proven was he? Most people on here had probably never heard him.

Ditto with Vidal, people on here had only heard of him because of you and Shappy banging on about him every week.

Agree2 Disagree1

Jono

The thing is, my opinion and your opinion is actually very similar with regards the quality of our CM options. I too think we need to strengthen and would like to see a Bender/Strootman type player brought in. But just because us 2 fans think we need to buy a CM'er doesn't mean the manager does.

It's all well and good us saying certain players aren't 'good enough' but the manager clearly believes they are good enough to contribute otherwise he would not have named them in his 25 man squad inthe first place.

I do think we'll see at least one good CM'er in the summer. I'd like to see us buy one top CM like L Bender to play alongside Carrick next season. With Cleverly, Anderson & Powell as the main backup options. Anything extra would be a nice bonus obviously.

In terms of January I'd love to see us add some quality but in terms of numbers I don't think it's necessary. And as I said I assume SAF has faith in those players (whether we do or not) which is why I'd be surprised to see us make a move.

I do agree that the manager has showed perhaps too much faith in the oldguard at times (Giggs, Scholes) and certain other's who have struggled to deliver. But at the end of the day that's MY opinion and not SAF's. I'm not surprised by his loyal approach though as we're not the type of club to chop and change without giving players a good chance.

Let's just hope we both get our wish in the summer (even though I suspect you'd like to see one in Jan) and we can put this whole CM saga behind us all, LOL.

Gav

Agree2 Disagree0

I think Zaha can be adapted to an inside forward role, he's big, strong, had pace, has a trick. Yes he currently has no end product. Neither does nani as he's older. Neither did Ronaldo once. Ronaldo developed and Nani didn't.

Agree1 Disagree1

Fresh

I bloody hope so haha.

No name

Cabaye was a French international who had just massively contributed to an unfancied club winning ligue 1 for the first time in ages. This was as moch as he could do in the team he was in surely?

Vidal was considered by Bayern as their first choice signing the window before he moved to Juve and the only thing that stopped that was Leverkusens want for him to move out of the league. So for a combined fee of under 20m those two together could mix it with the best when they moved never mind now.

Plus is it not our scouts jobs to find these players if we can just using the Internet and tv?

Gav

I agree our opinions are similar but with it fact we have went in for CMers like the Dembele bid and WS move that shows SAF does think we need players there but as has been mentioned before he doesn't handle rejection well and with the press and fans alike hounding the net and media with our weak midfield he seems to me as having closed ranks and almost said what we have is what we need.

There has been need for a cm shuffle since he trusted Barca 09 but since we have seen the same personnel rotate into different slots in the team with no injection of anything new other than a rotation of a defender or forward playing there instead.

How bad it has reached is that we are making excuses for Rooney to drop back or Jones to play forward as the CMers need new ideas.

So my question to SAF would clearly be why not spend 30m on 2 CMer that can replace our CM and we can let the older and constantly injured players leave instead of taking up places for young talent and adequate players.

I think with his age he has become too loyal. We seen years ago the ruthletvess of releasing player in their prime if one foot was out of place yet with the Rooney saga, Andos constant off field shenanigans, Giggs too he keeps them in pride and place even though Giggs is past the decline, Ando has managed around 10-15 games a season for the last three years and Rooney is questionably easily replaced at half the cost.

Is he leaving the majority of change to the new man or is his plans to stay for 2-3 more years? Either way mate I hope to high heaven we sign a minimum 1 top CMer this summer but I'm very worried of 1 injury to Carrick could derail our title bid massively and that's a sentence I never thought I would say haha.

Vidal was unproven before Juve ! How much football do you watch ? He was an excellent player in Germany before he moved.

I'm actually quite excited by the Zaha transfer - I like it when we buy top british talent - but I do share the same worry as you that he will be the only winger coming in, with Nani leaving. Other's believe another winger will come in too but I'm not convinced. So that does worry me slightly that unless Valencia and Young hit top form next season or Zaha takes like a duck to water we could be lacking slightly out wide. But then, in the end, my faith in the manager takes over and I remember all the times we've 'won against the odds' so I remain confident that somehow Fergie will make it work!

Gav

Agree0 Disagree0

Jono

Again I agree with most of your points, can't really remember what we initially disagreed about now, lol! I've been enjoying my Friday night too much :) I do believe that SAF has been more loyal in his old age and that may have had some level of impact on the quality our current CM squad. I'm less of the opinion that we need to strengthen in Jan given the numbers we have, but we both agree that at least one top CM'er is required in the sumer and that in all honesty we should have bought one before now.

Gav

Agree0 Disagree0

Jono, you said something along the lines of, 'if our scouts can't see it, how come we can see it on the tv or internet'. I know that's not word for word, but it was the general gist of it.

All I would say, is that we can all watch tv, and use the internet to see these players, but to play for Utd, you also have to have the right attitude and mentality.

This is something you can't glean from the tv, but involves talking to the player's family, friends, coaches, managers, and the guy himself.

Some of the names thrown about on this site may be the dogs b*****ks on the pitch, but there may be perfectly good reasons why our scouts have deemed them 'not suitable'.

The scouts and our manager are going to be privy to a lot more information on the player than we ever will, and as a result of that info, some transfer targets may fall by the wayside, while we scratch our heads and wonder why Fergie doesn't just buy him.

So are we not allowed to sign anyone other than central midfielders? Just because we think that SAF should buy a CM doesn't mean that he will - I'm sure he is waiting for the right guy. Perhaps Cabaye.

Really excited about the signing of Zaha, gives us a really good base of home grown talent. I would love to see an all English midfield and forward line play at some point in the next few seasons maybe:

-----------Rooney----------
Young------Powell------Zaha
----Cleverley---Carrick------

And then there's Welbeck, Carrick, Jones, Smalling, Tunnicliffe, Lingard etc.

With all the foreign players joining our league it's great to see the top club keeping some national identity and that can only be good for our future Euro and World cup campaigns.

That's the way zaha, zaha I like it!

Kai

Believable8 Unbelievable1

It's good to know that even with the money of clubs like Chelsea and City we are still one of the biggest attractions for young british players. The signings of Smalling, Jones, Powell and Zaha show that these sort of players still value our club as a good place to develop into a top player. Perhaps they would have worries over playing time and/or instability at other clubs.

We should use this advantage over City/Chelsea to the max over the next few years IMO, to make up for some of the big money signings they will inevitably make that we will struggle to match £ for £ (depending on the influence or lack therof of FFPR).

I don't think any team in the country would have a stronger all English line up than what we can put out:

________Hernandez_______

Subs (from): Johnstone/Santiago, Keane, Vermijl, Blackett, Tunnercliffe, Lingard, Henriquez, Keane and a few others.

2 of the 3 games are the Copa Del Rey semi final and I can't see either resting many 1st teamers. Where Real are in the league at the minute, if Barca beat them in the league and knock them out of the semi final and we knock them out of the CL their season is over. They will then have huge criticism heading their way from every angle and the in fighting will be even bigger than it already has been. They could be managerless and may have a huge fight to even qualify for next years CL. There is too much resting on these games for Real to take chances in my eyes. Barca will also want to inflict as much pain as possible on Real and losing any game to them won't be an option. I think it will be a hugely difficult 5 weeks for Real and hopefully it will culminate with Van Persie getting the winning goal in front of the Stretford End.

In November the club's debt was down to £359 million (estimated) or so. Does anyone know if the Glazers are still paying off the debt (as well as the interest)?

I know United have bought Sky's stake out of MUTV so it looks like revenue will be created there. United made £320 million in 2011/2012 despite the early champions league exit so profits should increase with all the commercial deals.

Hate the way the Glazers have bought the club and saddled the debt onto the club. Hopefully now united can get the debt paid off and get back into profit. It's thanks to Fergie that we have stayed competitive on the pitch.

Light at the end of the tunnel? Let's hope so!

Would like to hear your thoughts guys!

Bryn Mez.

So you disagree with the debt issue but still manage to see a constructive way forward, that could lead to a positive outcome. How objective of you. I wish a certain other poster would take note ;)

Your post makes a lot of sense to me, Bryn

I would also be interested to find out if they are still paying off the debt capital as well as the interest? Any idea Syd?

Gross debt stands at £360m give or take a shilling. It is going down and that is of course good news for the club. It was only two year's ago that rival fans took the p1ss saying we were a billion in debt, some were a little more accurate by saying £800m in debt, none were dead on accurate by saying we were £543m in debt. We are in a much better position than we were a couple of years ago when the media predicted a Liverpool or Leeds type meltdown. We were paying interests as high as £68.8m during a recession didn't look good, interest for the future should stand at around £31m plus tax.

Although we are in better shape now and we are very healthy financially, it's vital to remember that we should never have been put into this position in the first place. This was never out debt, the Glazers purchased the club with borrowed cash and they then put that debt onto the club. Still leaves a bitter taste in our mouths, but at least we are safe from financial meltdown, competitive and the debt is being reduced.

Sydney!

They easily pay the interest of the debt I believe..... Didn't the debt interest go from £60ish million to £30ish million not long ago or am I imagining things.

Do you think when the debt is paid off the extra money will go into united or be taken to America so the glazers can live an even more luxurious life not bad considering they have bought utd with uniteds money

Bryn, Gav,

I only post on here once a month usually these days but having read this I felt I needed to say something.

At the top of the premiership, there are two types of ownership. The Chelsea/City ownership model and the Arsenal/United type model. Lets face it I am Kloot yearns for the Chelsea/City type model because he fears it so much, and in fairness to him, so he should. Rich benefactors ploughing millions in to clubs that haven't earned it, good owners if you can get one.

Unfortunately for us we have to paddle our own canoe and pay of a debt was put on us by shrewd American businessmen. We were always open to that risk when we floated years ago. We blew most clubs, apart from Arsenal, out of the water for 14 years before Abramovich joined the party.

The harsh reality is there for all to see, if you have the most money more often than not in football you are the winner. Thankfully Ronaldo seasoned at the right time for us in 2006/7 and what a break that was for the Glazers. One of you said it was Ferguson's management. Well yes credit where credit is due there is probably no better motivator and manager of millionaires, but essentially if you have the best players available for the best price and you are able to afford it like Chelsea and City you are going to challenge whoever is in the chair.

Lets look at it another way, we are in a recession and look at the performance of a club that is saddled with out debt. How we are still competing is beyond me it just go;s to show how well run we are. No other club could do what Manchester United have done. Real Madrid and Barcelona had to be bailed out by local government when they were a fraction of what we were in debt. How big does that make us, and we don;t negotiate our own TV rights like they do.

Manchester United even with the Glazers debt are still going in the right direction, no we haven't got a benefactor, but we all know how reliance on a benefactor can go wrong, ask a Rangers fan. Remember when they were the cats meow in Scotland not so long ago.

We have just signed a deal with Chevrolet (biggest ever). Nike deal up for negotiation (they have paid Mcilroy 150m, how much will they have to give us) . We have just bought back our training kit deal from DHL, because we know we can negotiate a bigger one etc. The financial future is very bright.

As for the way the rest of the season is going to pan out. Personally to be successful you need a big influential keeper. We haven't got that now with the retirement of Van Der Sar. All successful teams have a big influential keeper Shmikes, VDS, Cech, Hart, Seaman you see the trend. The kid may be great one day but he isn't at the moment and that will be our downfall this year, every team we play knows our weak link. The only reason Liverpool didn't win the league in 2009 was because of Reina's inconsistency, do you agree.

We are in transition it will take time, but we are headed in the right direction, believe me.

Of course I take everything Sydney says seriously I know he takes a very keen interest in all aspects of the club from youth team matches to financing the club. Do any of you really believe that if somehow we pay of the Glazers debt for them they will just start giving money back. They have businesses in America like their Malls that are really struggling the money will go over there. Or maybe they will sell United and what do you think the new owners will do pay with their own money are you stupid they have seen that the Glazers bought the club for not one penny of their own so they will do the same. Borrow the money then load it onto the club. And we will hear those famous words manageable debt. Just think about it for a minute. If it wasn't for the Glazers we could dwarf our neighbours in terms of spending on world class players and still be in profit. Maybe it's a Manchester thing that we feel a little more passionate about what is being done to our club. I suppose it doesn't really affect you sat in a pub down south in your replica shirt. It's just we never get fans from Manchester on this site supporting the Glazers. I AM KLOOT

Agree3 Disagree4

Good post Mike. I agree with all of it apart from DDG who I'm willing to give another 18 months to see what he can do. It may well be a risk but then there is also the risk that we sell him on only for him to blossom into a star.

Cheers for the info Syd, also.

Clearly we were put at a major disadvantage from day one with the debt put on us by the 'evil owner's' but it's good to see we're heading in the right direction. And there's no denying that if we maintain a certain level of success whilst reducing the debt further we should be in our healthiest position ever (in terms of revenue/profit) in a few years time.

First time I have ever responded to you Kloot.

Of course no United fan is happy with the debt but the phrase crying over spilt milk comes to mind. We can't do anything about it.

However I do take umbridge with your response to everyone that they are southern with no ties to Manchester.

I was born in Withington hospital so you can't have that one over me, and besides, we're it not for those southern United fans and those around the word glazers or no, we wouldn't be nearly the club we are now both financially, commercially etc...

Rather than throwing mud which ruins any serious point you might make how about embracing other united fans and showing them some respect...or is that beyond you?

Agree4 Disagree1

Again with the notion that it's our club, kloot. seriously, your position boils down to: I want other people to spend hundreds of millions of pounds for my entertainment. do you realize how ridiculous you sound? the sheiks at City don't spend their money for the supporters, they do it because they want their plaything to provide THEM with the most pleasure it can. and before you repeat your tired point of the supporters are the ones whose money it is; when you pay your money to United to watch a match at OT or buy a replica shirt, you are exchanging money for goods or services at which point the money ceases to be yours. I imagine your best case scenario is one in which billionaires from around the world donate money to United and ask nothing in return and let a select group of Manchester born supporters run the club. expecting other people to spend money for your entertainment is preposterous and that's exactly what you are asking for and frankly your anti-Glazer position isn't even accurate, as you admit, no one is buying the club for cash, it will always be a leveraged buyout. you'd be more truthful by just wishing outright for a sugar daddy owner but as other posters have mentioned you seem afraid to do so. please state the model of ownership you would like to see implemented at United instead of just decrying the current one.

Pepe

Agree2 Disagree1

I don't think many people sat in pubs down south in replica shirts support the Glazers Kloot, in fact I don't recall many people on this site supporting the Glazers at all. I think we would all be happier with a situation where business wasn't involved with our club, but hang on a minute, our club is THE BIGGEST football business in the world . I can understand you disliking the way the Glazers do business but it is business whether delusional paranoid fans think it is or not. Put it this way, have you ever watched Dragons den?
How many times do people give away more equity in their hard earned businesses than the money they will get in return? And why pray tell do they do this? Its obvious isn't it, having shrewd businessmen on board will increase their earnings faster proportionately than had they carried on without giving up a percentage of their business.
I'm not a supporter of the Glazers but you've got to see that turn over has increased a lot and what difference does it make if that extra profit goes on debts or if all of it goes in the owners pocket. It is in the Glazers best interests to keep our club competitive or they won't be able to continue to milk the cash cow. That is business Kloot, bottom line is that is business and if you don't like it start supporting your local grass roots team because the rest of us want to just enjoy the football and it's getting boring listen to you slate other people on here and rant on about the Glazers. Manchester United wouldn't have much if they didn't have the fan base from outside Manchester so stop getting at people for not living there, I used to live in Manchester but now I'm in Devon, I don't have a replica shirt but I guess I must be a "Glazer muppet" because I'm down south!
If you do have to go on about the Glazers leave other people out of it because all you do is make yourself look like an ignorant arseh0le.

Thanks for the replies guys! I hope that once the debt is paid off then the profits generated will be invested in the team.

Kloot, no one likes the glazers for the way they bought the club and the debt they saddled the club with; and what their plans are for the future but as other posters have said, we can't change what has happened but the club is run well and the united brand is probably one of the strongest in the world. Some positives, I've been to a couple of games this season and will try to get to a couple more. Still get a tingle down my spine when I go to old trafford. Those of us with passion for the club will still be there regardless of who owns it. Could be worse, you could be a Blackburn or Liverpool fan!

Bryn Mez

Agree1 Disagree1

It's interesting, Kloot, you recognise that the Glazer's selling the club could be a bad thing. So you don't want them here but you don't want them gone. As you point out the next owner's are unlikely to use all their own cash so what the current owner's did can't be that radical can it? Not ideal for us fans but perhaps just good business sense. Or worse still they could float the club completely and then where would we be. Whilst every last one of us recognises the bad position they put us in when they first arrived, most of us are realistic to know that there's nothing we can do about their ownership. So there's only 2 options so far as I can see 1) embrace the fact that each year our situation improves and we are heading for a very healthy financial place, or 2) keep moaning about what happened around a decade ago and fighting a battle that cannot be won (unless you have a spare couple of billion).

@Sydney
you are aware of the hundreds of millions of euros of debt that both Barcelona AND Real Madrid have on their books. don't see a lot of people going on about that because, as with United they have sufficient revenues to service that debt. in fact the overwhelming majority of companies are carrying debt because that's how business in financed today. debt per se is not a bad thing, unsustainable debt to revenue ratios are. and if you are against debt financing (and this goes for all Glazer haters) I assume you don't have a credit card or a mortgage. or if you had an opportunity to purchase a succesful business that you felt you could run properly and be successful with you would eschew taking out a loan and just pass on the opportunity. seriously, the level of analysis of debt financing on this site is deplorable; I can barely remember a mention of debt/revenue ratios the most basic manner in which to analyze debt, not as an absolute number taken without context

Pepe

Agree1 Disagree1

KLOOT, you do realise that it isn't just United that could be sold and bought back with borrowed money, that could happen to any club at any time. It could have happened to us before the Glazers bought us. Until it's banned like it is in Germany then we will always be in danger of this happening, just like we always were in danger of it before it happened. You also mention what happens when the debt is gone, will they start putting more money into transfers, will they start taking dividends and use that cash to pay towards their malls (which I do believe are not failing anymore). Well it is their entitlement to take dividends as it's their club.

Will they put more money into transfers? Well they have spent large sums in the past on Berbatov and more recently RvP so I would imagine funds will be made available if the right player comes along. We were willing to spend big on Moura and Hazard although were not prepared to spend over the odds for the players. I think if the manager wants a player they will fund it, of course their is constraints as we are a self sufficient club that lives within our means, not a club run on oil money. This year the club have net spent close to £60m. That isn't bad however you may want to pretend it is.

None of us like the way our club was bought, but it has happened. Lower debt IS a good thing for the club, Andy Green will tell you that. Us wanting the debt lowered doesn't make us Glazer puppets. Is Andy Green a Glazer puppet?

i have been a reader of this site for the lat 10 months have posted in various names.haha... but I have always loved reading through what every one has to offer. I used to follow tha la liga a lot... and De gea was a favourite. I have been stunned by the way he is being witch hunted by the media and some of us here. just one question? doesn't joe hart make mistakes? why is it taken as just a small mistake happening due to pressure of playing for the defending champions? with the poros defence we had. how can we just looking at all others around us with dreamy eyes.

David De Gea is doing a pretty good job for a 22yr lad. his performances have improved and will only get better. Why not get behind the lad for once? let him feel loved? Why do you think RVP loves it at old trafford? coz he feels the adulation, adoration. The same would affect him and improve DDG. the courage would come, the strength would develop. Just get behind him

I heard a good point on the radio the other day - how many of the top current keepers actually don't make mistake? None of them, it seems. Like you say Hart has made quite a few this season but it's just seen as a 'bad day at the office' for him. Some say there is more flappiness/mistakes because of new lighter, faster balls - which may well be true. So considering all of that as well as DDG's age, lack of experience, move from another country...I do think we are too harsh on him as fans and we over analyse any mistakes he makes.

well zaha is in the bag and come july he's a united player. I for one am excited at what he could become and hope that now he's a united player people will firstly support him and secondly give him time to settle and adapt and not expect fireworks straight away. I understand the frustration at not signing a midfielder but I expect we will sign at least one come summer. January is a difficult time to sign players and the ones we want are not available till summer. I think we'll buy one or perhaps two from this list: wanyama, strootman, eriksen, modric, bender. We also seem to be looking at centrebacks not leftbacks.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

Believable3 Unbelievable2

Unless someone moves for a target (possibly Strootman) I expect we will wait til the summer.

Agree4 Disagree1

That's it IMO. I don't think we need any defender's right now and although I feel a CM would improve us I think the manager intends to go with Carrick, Cleverly, Anderson, Jones, Giggs and Scholes before investing in the summer.

Gav

Agree4 Disagree1

I feel like that's it for the january window but I expect an interesting summer with pretty good signings.

Agree3 Disagree0

I think that is it for us till the summer. I find it bizarre we bought a winger that is not going to join till next year. Personally I would have paid a premium for a cm as it will not be any cheaper come this summer given the following:

1.AC Milan will have funds to buy
2.Juve with their scudeto and cl run will have money to buy
3.Chelsea and City have endless budgets
4.Arsenal supposedly will have a 50 mill transfer budget
5.The russian clubs will be back at it
6.Barca and real will definitely be buying
7.Bayern will be buying

We are 5 points clear but that is nothing if you ask me and I hope we have enough in the tank to get to the finish line. If that happens I believe most fans will be happy however if we fail to win the league and come up short due to our midfield, the manager has some explaining to do. For the size of our club and the money spend over the last few years, he can not come up with any excuses.

Shahram

Agree7 Disagree4

Our midfield option are not bad, we do want that quality midfielder, but we d have good midfield options. Kagawa & Rooney for the hole, both can also drop deeper. Cleverley, Anderson, Powell, Carrick, Scholes, Giggs & Jones will scrap it out for the deeper roles.

Sydney!

Agree4 Disagree2

Maybe the CM(s) that SAF wants simply aren't available right now?

Agree4 Disagree0

Are we not VERY LIKELY to get Lewandowski too? I think we'll go for a midfielder too. Linked with some interesting young defenders too, this Zouma boy looks very interesting... It'll be great to win the league and then strengthen convincingly in the summer. I think Zaha is going to be great for us too.
As giants14 posted a couple of days ago, it's important we capatilize on the next 8 fixtures before we then face city at home, in order for some momentum to gather for at least a couple of seasons.. Exciting times....

Why aren't we keeping zaha in the squad, at this moment in the season we could use fresh legs, the enthusiasm and naivity of the lad. I know he is only young and would have to adapt to the premier league, but at this moment in time, espiecially on the wings, he could cause a lot of problems, with his pace.
I like crystal palace and ian holloway, but surely it would have been more beneficial to keep Zaha and loan a couple of players to palace. They could of took Powell and lingard, two different types of players to Zaha, but both could add a new dimension to their side, while giving them the experience and confidence they need. Surely more bodies for the crystal palace squad is more important. The championship is a very good league, but can be very demanding, the lad cost a lot of money, which could be wasted if he is to get injured. Surely he has the ability to add to the united squad.
Not sure why Fergie does this, great signing, bags of potential, but use him and have faith in him. We need a player that can challenge for the starting 11 straight away, particularly in the cm position.
I guess nani'staying until the summer, at least. Hope he starts playing football again, every time he gets the ball it looks like he's having a fight and losing miserably.

aaallj5

Believable4 Unbelievable2

I do believe he wasn't available til the summer. CP has made it clear that they want the player til the summer. I think we were forced to sign Zaha now due to strong interested from elsewhere. The same happened with both Smalling and Jones.

Sydney!

Agree2 Disagree1

Its likely that Palace refused to sell him unless he was loaned back

Pardoe

Agree1 Disagree0

IMO it's because:

- CP were only interested in doing a deal if it was agreed he would stay, thy're pushing for promotion
- it will aid Zaha's development to play every game for CP between now and the summer
- IMO at United SAF would not throw him straight in anyway and he would struggle to get regular games ahead of Young, Valencia, Nani, Kagawa and Welbeck
- in the summer SAF will tinker with the squad so that Zaha will get plenty of chances next season
- it will also be beneficial for him to go straight into a pre-season and get used to the club rather than being thrown into the deep end in January

'Glazer excuse merchants' is a good one, a new one for you actually, I am usually glazer defence squad, keep them coming they make me laugh.

Blackpool Red, what do you mean by the Glazers taking out £50m from the club every year?

The revamp of Carrington cost £13m. We also agreed a deal with Toshiba for all of the medical equipment to be supplied by them. That would have relieved the total cost somewhat.

Blackpool red, surely if the club is successful and the debt is going down and the revenue is going up then it's not really a surprise it's died down is it.

Also, we tried getting them out and they went nowhere, they are here to stay. Read shappys post down the page about having to pay taxes to live in the country, I agree with everything he said.

The budget for transfers and the budget for improving facilities will be seperate. We spent 50 million in the summer and fergie obviously couldn't get the midfielder he wants. Missing out on dembele seems a strange one as he has been the best player on the pitch in the 3 games he's played against us this season. If anything I think we need an experienced centreback to come in and help develop them, as I think rio is leaving and would help to cover vidic in case he has injury problems and takes the pressure off. I think that's why we're linked with garay. Zouma is good though but I think it would mean the end for a couple of the youth players if we signed him.

So the Zaha deal is done, and on the United website it said that neither party will make further commets until he has joined the club in July. Glad we have signed him but would much rather him be here now, there is always an element of risk when you leave players at clubs (injuries etc.)

van persie was a gamble too with his injury record. Worked out so far. Try having some faith in the manager.

I know that Real Madrid are favourites for the Champions League tie against us but I would much rather our fixture schedule in feb/early march than Madrids....

Madrid
30th Jan - Barcelona - Home
2nd Feb - Grenada - Away
9th Feb - Sevilla - Home
13th Feb - United - Home
17th Feb - Rayo Vallecano - Home
24th Feb - Deportivo - Away
27th Feb - Barcelona - Away
2nd Mar - Barcelona - Home
5th Mar - United - Away

United
30th Jan - Southampton - Home
2nd Feb - Fulham - Away
10th Feb - Everton - Home
13th Feb - Madrid - Away
16th Feb - possible FA Cup tie
23rd Feb - QPR - Away
2nd Mar - Norwich - Home
5th Mar - Madrid - Home

The 2 ties against Barcelona before our 2nd leg match could be huge in deciding the outcome of our tie. Lets hope they are 2 battles with a couple of injuries to help even up all the injuries we have been having. I think we can get a result over the 2 legs and am just hoping that their fixture list gives us a slight advantage going into the 2nd leg in out backyard.

Good point Brendan, it's important to note though that both teams have quite a lot of depth, the key game will be the second leg, coming off two games against Barcelona and then to travel to OT will be a real test. I reckon they'll really go for it in the first leg and look to have it won in that game. I just hope Fergie gets the selection right for the first leg and that we don't have any injuries!

Given the standings in La Liga, both barca and real might play second string teams as both will have their eye on the cl ties. I guarantee Mourinho will sacrifice the Barca ties for the CL as the gap is too large for him to risk getting knocked out of cl.

I'm not sure why all of a sudden there are so many financial advisers w/ Zaha but we should be happy money is spent trying to find the right players in positions that are weak. Hopefully we look at defender and a midfielder with high defensive rate but can go up the field.

Who could be making way for Zaha. Nani, valeciaor the retirement of Giggs. Also could he become the new number 7.
Redchad

As I have said many times, I see Zaha taking the place of Nani. Another winger to replace Valencia and Giggs to stay on.

News just in Eric cantona is coming out of retirement to give scholes a hand boost our midfield!!! You have heard it here first!

Believable1 Unbelievable7

I heard that, but I think it is because he wants to show Hazard how its done!
Or it could be because he wants to show Alan Hasen you can win the league with both kids and old men.
Or maybe its because he is still considerably more talented than any other player in the liverpool team?

Yes we are England's most decorated team and I agree that we consistently challenge for major honours, however at this point in time we can no longer claim to the best team in England or the champions. up until may that honour, I hate to say it goes to city.

Last week I asked the editor if he didn't mind telling me what his job role is. from the insight he or she provides I'm guessing it is related to representation or purely finance. My post was met with some amazingly witty comments but then again I was on the Liverpool page. I've only been reading about 18 months so I'm sure this has been brought up before. I don't need details but would like to know the sector at least. can anyone help. Come on ed002 bail a brother out yo.
This isn't to try and discredit the editor I am very grateful for the work they all do. Can any of my fellow regulars help?
