If there was to be a change in assistant manager, then for me, Carlos Queiroz has to come back. Between Queiroz and SAF there was a great balance of brilliant man management and astute tactical awareness. I'm not trying to belittle SAF's tactical side, but I think in Queiroz, the squad had someone who was willing to explain absolutely everything to them.

Before the semi-final with Barcelona in 2008, Queiroz set the team specific exercises in defending with and without the ball to keep Barca out. Gary Neville said: "We'd never seen such attention to detail. We rehearsed time and again, walking through the tactics slowly with the ball in our hands."

Can anyone imagine Phelan doing this?

The result on the weekend was abit of a wake up call for our players but i think the biggest thing that should come from it is that Sir Alex needs a strong Lieutenant at his side and not a yes man like Mike Phelan, sure he's a club man but i don't think he offers much in the way of tactically awareness or motivational skills that Sir Alex himself doesn't possess. We need someone who can offer us a differant way of thinking and isn't afraid to talk about it with Sir Alex.

For me the person i'd love to see join as Sir Alex's number 2 would be Micheal Laudrup, a man who has great managerial skill, who sets his teams up to play good attacking football, a man who was one of the best midfielders in the world and who could pass his knowledge onto our midfielders though training and disscussion. Think how it could help our current crop of young midfielders. Sometimes a fresh face amoung the staff and a few new training techniques can be as effective as a new player. And lets face it we can't sign anyone until January at the earliest, and we need something to change now. Laudrup has left his post as manager of Mallorca so is avalible now, and in a few years time he would be perfectly placed to seemlessly move up to manager when Sir Alex steps down having had a few years to adjust himself to Manchester United.

What do you guys think?

Shappy {Ed001's Note - excellent idea, Laudrup is a big Liverpool fan - it would be great for banter! ;o)}

To keep the squad balanced i'd go with just the one signing, Sneijder. World Cup winner, cl winner, played for all the worlds top teams apart from us. Having a rough time with the Inter fans but still has so much to offer and is in his peak years. Woth him here we could even see Anderson step it up, id get rid of Gibson and keep everyone else for now, but use Pogba in that anchor man position {Ed001's Note - when did Sneijder win a World Cup?}

I'm life long surpporter of United since the early 70's have to post this as i am disappointed in the attitude of some so called fans its been a decent start to the season and the league is not given out in november.Don't like the fact that so many of you have the nerve to question Sir Alex saying he is dated and should be replaced .The reason Manchester United are the club they are today is because of Sir Alex when he took control we had an ageing injury drink ravaged squad,run down dated stadium poor training grounds,back in them days it was the odd fa cup always looking up at liverpool .since Fergie took over look at what we have won the fantastic player we watched week in week out look how United have grown .now all of a sudden he's not up to the job yes the derby was disappointing but you only get 3 points for a win ,yes we need the midfeild sorting out wheather that is with your or we spend money i dont think is available.Just look where we are there is a whole generation out there who only know of United's success but i have a longer menory. so please guys have faith in Sir Alex he is the main reason United are where they are today.Tony

At 22 I think xavi was playing for barce and Spain so cleves has a bit off catching up to do but I think the comparisons are because he has a similar game
I think the steve g lampard type midfielder is out of fashion now Xavi and Barcelona have set a new trend

Utd was willing to pay alot fos WS bt the wages demans were too high!

Even if we have to buy J Martinez for 30mil, I don't care, he's marvelous, young, strong and exactly what we need.

Pls SAF, buy him, before Madrid and Barcelona or even City go after him and pay crazx wages to the f****ng agent.

Martinez, Gotze, Carrick, Pogba, Cleverly, Morrison, Nani, Young, Toni it would be amazing. With Wazza, Chicha, Welbeck and another word class st.

I was very impressed last night by everybody with the exception of Park.

Without getting carried away Ravel and Pogba were very good, and you could see that Morrison was dying to get on the scoresheet.

Berbatov as I've been saying for the past year and a bit is a very good footballer with an unfair label of being lazy as he does a lot of off the ball running, well now he's started doing it on the ball. he was my MoTM.

I still wasn't overly impressed with Vidic, I wouldn't start him against Everton but I'd have him on the bench and give him 30 minutes or so.

All in all it was a good game, Good to see Cleverley playing again, but we've got to remember it was Aldershot.

Aldershot's Jermaine McGlashan on Twitter after he revealed that he had asked for Manchester United's Michael Owen's shirt after Tuesday's Carling Cup game and had been turned down: "He said why would I want his shirt!! I said I appreciate good players etc..he sed no your alright!! #BigTimeCharlie I Guess"

Is anyone else both gutted and annoyed that we missed the boat with silva? Heard a lot about a proposed interest from Fergie, was it true or speculation? Cos it seemed as soon as there was reported interest from utd city came in for him (surprise surprise!) balotelli, aguero, toure were on our radar! Its very fickle of me if i say they only go for players united are interested in as they are simply going for the best, i guess im more bothered by the fact that fergie hasnt busted a gut to sign any of them, its fair to say they are right up there with the worlds best!

I'd like to point out, having 20 Mins to play Michael keane was decent, Pogba tidy but not as penetrative as I've seen and Morrison made some neat touches, good footwork and good forward runs. I think for a twenty minute or so run out (excluding Pogba who was on for a bit longer I think) who can say they are not exciting prospects? Everyone is ridiculous thinking they are going to set the world alight from a cameo appearance and then write them off when they don't. Silly.

I was extremely impressed with Berba and Owen today, Owen was showing som great vision and runs as usual and Berba put a right old shift in, shouting, getting involved in discussions and grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck. Throw him in at Everton I say.

Back to the youngster's though, why should we buy Barkley when we have someone like Morrison in the ranks? I know Barkley is an england U21 already but seriously barkley has 2 or three premier league games experience more and all of a sudden we're meant to open the cheque book for £20M! doesn't seem right to me. Add some grit steel and experience, I would love to see Javi Martinez/M'Vila/Sissoko and Sneijder come in or just someone who knows what they are doing. We can faff about with buying youth later and seeing if they make the grade, I think the crop of players we have can do it so why spend money on someone whos going to push some of our own youth team out the picture?

Just my thoughts.

One thing I like about Clevs is his direct approach, last night for our 1st goal, he played a ball straight through the middle of the defenders. The rest of our midfield would have played backwards or out wide and slowed down play. He injects a big of urgency into our game.

I really don't get it!
Gotze, Iker Munian... They attract big teams because somebody gave them the opportunity to show off and this is why they're in this level.

If in games like this ine Pogba and Morisson don't get the opportunity to play at least 45-60min how do we expect so see them playing in bigger games?

Everybody is talking about Gotze, He's in this level because he's playing and the more games he play more experienced he will become.

I do believe the right now, Pogba and Morisson can do worse than Ando, Fletcher and Park, a lot of talking in July and August about Pogba getting more first-team opportunities but he barely completed 90mins of playing. how can you evaluate a player in 23 or 35mins?

Don't be surprised if one of this guys leaves OT for more first team play role. We're not the only team investing in young players.

And... one last thing, Berbatov is way better them Welbeck and I just don't understand why he doesn't play more!?

Ed001 - Why are people struggling to understand that Sneijder's wage demands were the issue in the summer? Why can't they believe that City & Chelsea also wouldn't agree to pay him his extortionate wage demands? The fact that Sneijder & Moratti have said that unofficial talks took place and broke down, isn't that enough? No club would meet his demands, that is why he is still playing for Inter.

Sydney! {Ed001's Note - people never like hearing anything that doesn't agree with what they want to hear.}

Exactly opposite Ed I wanted proof of the "fact" that it ws wages that broke it down. Im not naieve enough to just rule anything out including WS being greedy but who here knows the exact facts of what was discussed and what numbers were put forward by both camps? answer= nobody.

You can have all the inside info you want to back up whatever you say online but I believe my own eyes and as I said when I see someone who would know admit it then I will believe that but until then I can think what I want and I dont believe that the sole reason was he wouldn't budge on massive wage demands.

Syd you can call for your editorial backing all you want but they cant convince me any more than you or your friends can.

Simple thing was we needed a midfielder or 2 and if you are to believe we have properly tried for Mods, Nasri, WS this summer the board, management and all involved have to be questioned that if they are serious about a signing there is no excuse that a club our size should just be doing with what we have when we all can see that what we have is not good enough.

+ Syd the youth played well tonight certainly not amazing. The one major positive is how well Fryers has fit into the first team. With him, Blackett and twins we might not need another LB after all.
