I'm so pleased LVG had said it. The strikers this season have been a major problem for us. When you hear him talking of his 'philosophy' of keeping possession and holding the ball, a striker in form is essential. RVP hasn't been fit to be fair. Radamel Falcao, in theory should've been perfect. 2 seasons ago he would've been.
I understand LVG's idea of keeping the ball, but we need a natural finisher who can snatch a goal when given the opportunity. Martinez or Lewandowski spring to mind.

Believable2 Unbelievable3

28 Feb 2015 01:45:36
He said we don't have a 20 goal a year striker. Is he mad? We have three.

We have strikers capable of scoring 20 goals a season with ease if we played to their strengths and stopped with our monotonous 'play not to lose strategy' rather than trying to take the game to the opposition.

Agree7 Disagree3

28 Feb 2015 05:41:11
It's comments like this that don't do LVG any favours. I agree with JMB, we have 3 who are 20 goals a season strikers. Rooney is being played in midfield, and Falcao and RVP look out of form. It's a bit odd when 2 players who are clearly struggling keep getting picked week in week out (except for last week). Let's keep it simple, play Rooney up front and Herrera in midfield.

Agree2 Disagree1

28 Feb 2015 07:30:02
we create little with our slow build up play and easy to defend against. Instead of him complaining about the strikers, he should look at the style of football he is advocating.

Agree2 Disagree1

28 Feb 2015 08:57:50
Maybe at the next press conference a journalist should produce some "FACTS" about how many chances the strikers have actually had and missed compared to other teams. While they are at it, produce some facts about how slow our build up play is, how many times we have lumped the ball up to Fellaini and lost possession. Maybe even how fed up the strikers must be when Valencia crosses the ball to a supporter in row Z and not them.

Agree3 Disagree2

28 Feb 2015 15:31:27
Juan I'm in agreement that the manager should not crtisize players publically but i think people have misinterpreted what he was saying. He was trying to say that we don't have a 20 goal player this season.

Just like to wish good luck to Brian Mclair on his new role with the Scottish FA. Thanks to a favourite player of mine and a genuine nice guy.

I love Choccy, an intelligent man and the 1st to score over 20 league goals in a season since George Best 25(ish) years earlier. He moved to midfield but always gave his all. I especially liked him flattening Nigel Winterburn and then picking him up by the scruff of his neck before hurling him back to the ground. A great man and a cracking player for us.

28 Feb 2015 01:48:46
Very glad to see him take up the role. The SFA need someone like him to provide some guidance during tough times for the Scottish game.

Reading dwn the page anD noticed a post about Beast groupies. is that legal? I think I've seen websites but best not go there.

I know we all get wrapped up in the passion and the moment (watching matches, not with Beast groupies), but some good points made further down the page about perspective. Life is pretty crappy for lot of people right now. If you have clean clothes on your back, a roof over your head, a hot meal at night, and a good woman to keep you warm, then you are incredibly lucky.

I get as frustrated as anyone, particularly right now but there's bigger things to worry about than LVG's team formations.

See you tomorrow when I shall come and rant about the latest debacle.

{Ed007's Note - You want our Menopausal Man Talk page for that kind of stuff, AJH.}

27 Feb 2015 18:10:28
I might get some T-shirts printed and hire a plane to drop them over the stadium. Might add a bit of entertainment to the game, image of a Beast chewing out a big "Philosophy" coming out of LVG's long face!

There are more serious things in life AJH, but we are a passionate bunch about our team and many of us sacrifice a lot even if it is just to watch us on the box. I suppose it was this website or the Samaritans for me, thanks Eds I think the Samaritans would have banned me by now. haha

I agree with most of that fresh. Unfortunately regards to Rafael he's just becoming so unreliable that sadly his time is coming to an end. We can't wait for him to come good and keep using Valencia as a filler.

Pereira could come back and bite us as I think he would do well in a league like serie a. Then we'll have everyone whos never watched the reserves come on and tell us what a mistake we've made

Believable2 Unbelievable0

27 Feb 2015 17:13:37
Young players come and go I suppose, Pereira is not as special as Pogba but he is a good player. Will probably end up on a similar career path to someone like De Bruyne. As regards to Rafael, I know he has his fitness issues, but perhaps as second choice right back he would be able to stay sufficiently fit. He would be a better right back back up than Valencia is. Clyne as the starter and Rafael as a fill-in / cup games would be excellent.

Agree0 Disagree1

27 Feb 2015 23:23:16
Not sure how managed to put this on a separate page.

Do you think he would accept being the back up when he's been, nominally, the first choice for the last few seasons?

I like the guy, but sometimes things don't work out how you wish and the lack of a consistent right back is holding us back. Not as much as other areas maybe, but it doesn't help.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Feb 2015 02:06:18
I think De Bruyne is a very special talent Fresh. I don't think Parreria will reach his level. People only ever remember an inconsistent De Bruyne who played sparingly at Chelsea during Mourinhos bedding in year and was played to accommodate Oscar and Hazard.

He is an incredible player and would be right up there with Hazard if Chelsea hung onto him in my opinion. I would take the lad in a heartbeat.

Agree4 Disagree0

27 Feb 2015 15:50:21
So lvg has confirmed rvp will be out for a "long time".
I would like to see rooney as the lone striker but would settle for falcao rooney up top.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

27 Feb 2015 15:58:15
We may as well see how Rooney and Falcao perform up top, if they perform like Rooney and Tevez then we have a great partnership on our hands.

However, I would also love to see Rooney and Wilson as I think Wilson's pace would really compliment Rooney's style of play. Rooney drops deep while Wilson pushes the centre halves back with his pace. Could work nicely.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Feb 2015 17:25:09
I just wish Rooney would not drop so deep when he plays upfront. I forgot about that annoying habit during this midfield debacle.

Agree2 Disagree0

28 Feb 2015 02:10:34
I would like to see Mata played consistently and very closely behind a lone striker of Rooney or Falcao (if he picks up the pace).

I think a midfield trio of Blind (Carrick), Felliani and Mata could be key to getting us a spot in the top four. Along with two pacey wingers in Januzaj and Di Maria (should he also step up) could cause trouble for any opposition.

Agree2 Disagree0

27 Feb 2015 15:20:04
Just going to mention a player on here that I don't think has EVER been talked about and that is the progress of Harry Kane.

My question is do you think Wilson can be as good? And also, do you think Kane will move to a bigger club than Spurs, such as ourselves in the near future or will he be loyal to the club that made him what he is?

Believable0 Unbelievable2

27 Feb 2015 15:31:32
Been with spurs for 11 years I believe and seems like a decent guy with his feet firmly on the ground, I think it would be hard to convince him to leave spurs but, who knows?
The games all about the £ these days.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Feb 2015 15:59:21
He is going to be special I think, I don't think this is a flash in the pan. He reminds me of players like van Nistelrooy who just know where the goal is and where the keeper wants it to be least. And we all know how good Ruud was.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Feb 2015 16:03:20
Completely agree Fresh, the boy looks like he could end up been the full package.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Feb 2015 16:13:17
England games will be a good marker, hopefully Kane plays off of Rooney. If that goes well then we will surely be interested? Two English strikers, sounds great to me. I would love to see us have more English players and was hoping that Phil Jones would of been ready by now. Jones, Shaw, Carrick, Rooney and Kane would make a lovely start to our team with foreign players filling around them.

Agree1 Disagree1

27 Feb 2015 16:18:06
I mentioned him a few weeks ago saying he is precisely what we need in a LVG system, a striker who can make chances for himself and works hard. May have gotten lost in the myriad of posts I make, but I said £30m would be a perfect deal.

Agree2 Disagree1

27 Feb 2015 16:28:50
Was always talked about at Spurs but they feared he wouldn't be anywhere near fast enough to be a success, he went away and over the past year and half has worked incredibly hard on his fitness and speed and look where it's got him. He's put the work in and it's great to see, especially from a young English player.

Agree2 Disagree0

27 Feb 2015 17:17:18
As I said, I am genuinely excited about seeing Rooney and Kane link up for England, we shall see how that works. If it works well though I could see us at least attempting to get him in the summer.

And sorry Beast, it must of got lost as I didn't see it.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Feb 2015 18:05:26
No probs Fresh, it was mainly taking about how exciting Wilson & Kane would be and then saying we should sign him. I just got a few disagrees as per usual with the sign Kane thing and a couple of comments about Levy pulling our pants down (which will probably be the reason we don't do it in fairness).

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Feb 2015 22:20:35

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Feb 2015 02:15:40
What I like about Kane is he is a very hard worker and will run himslef into the ground up until the last second of a game. He has benefitted greatly from being on the fringes of the first team and being sent out on loan to lower clubs which has instilled a real work ethic into him.

I would like us to do something similar with Wilson. He has more pace than Kane but must develop some of the traits Kane has in terms of being aggressive, determined and ruthless infront of goal. Good to benchmark for Wilson to aspire to in a few years.

So its looking more and more likely that the Shotgun Wedding won't last between UTD and ADM. honestly can't say iv seen enough quality to be bothered. I do hope however that the wheels are in motion in prep for this Summer to do all of our business early to avoid this situation again. In other news good to see Blackett and James signing new contracts, say what u want about LVG but one thing he does well is looking after the young seeds. I'm in no great rush to see instant success again although it would be nice, but i'm happy to see there is a longer plan being looked at and its now just about finding that balance between present and future and allowing it to merge beautifully

And what about Andreas Pereira? Similar to the Pogba situation.

I hope we don't lose another potential star.

though I will say I only know what the papers say a little from seeing him feature a U20.

Is he the real deal?

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Feb 2015 15:46:07
i seen a great artice the other day discussing that same issue. The outcome was basically that there are similarities between the two (pereira/pogba) but the main difference is that pogba WAS ready for the first team but was overlooked but pereira isnt. It also mentioned that although pereira shows quality in the u21 games he is not dominating them enough as pogba did to make that push for the first team. It seems like pereira is trying to emulate pogba somewhat (if this is all true) as it states Juventus would be the destination of choice and that he has been in contact with pogba a lot. What i took away from that was that pogba rightly so was disgruntled due to being ready for the first team and not getting the games whereas pereiras situation leans me more towards the "payday" option without the justification and hopes UTD won't want to lose out twice.

Agree1 Disagree1

27 Feb 2015 16:00:57
I would not be pleased to see him leave, but equally I would be very dissapointed if LVG gave in to the demands of an 19 year old who he doesn't deem to be ready. A player like Pereira has to be perfectly ready to play in the first XI as he doesn't have size on his side like Pogba did. If I was in charge I wouldn't start him ahead of Carrick, Blind, Herrera or Di Maria either.

Agree2 Disagree0

27 Feb 2015 16:18:06
Fully agree, you need to ask yourself would this story be getting the attention it is pre Pogba??? Personally the Pogba situation baffled me I remember when he came on against Bilbao and was awesome in what was an otherwise terrible tie and our midfield wasnt exactly booming. i'm also surprised not a lot has been said about Tom Lawrence's departure he looked like a player with natural ability and real potential

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Feb 2015 02:23:27
Parreria will never be 'another Pogba situation'. Clubs lose potential players all the time but Pogba's was unique because of what he has become at such a tender age.

Parreria is already hawking himself about and talking his options up to the press. Pogba moved on with little media spotlight and let his football do the talking. That's the difference. Parreria thinks he already is somebody in the modern game but in reality he is a nobody.

It is a bright Friday with the sun shining. I am looking forward to weekend, a weekend when I can take my seat at OT and watch my team. We are indeed fortunate, there are some great players like DiMaria, Rooney and Falcao who could entertain us tomorrow, Januzaj could show the talent he displayed last season, Shaw can show how he can develop into one of England's greats, Wilson may show us tomorrow what he has been doing at youth level, Herrera may drive our midfield forward. Some of the enjoyment down the years has not been knowing what we would see, waiting for that exceptional performance that might happen.
There have been ups and downs, we have to take the rough with the smooth but we will play well again even if we don't tomorrow.
I find it interesting that some seem to be on a drive to cut out positivity, to drive the negative vibe on the site pushing a significant and stronger downer on the manager. Well I watched far far worse than this down the years and perhaps the doom mongers forget we are lucky to support such a great club that will get it right and it could be this weekend.

So far today I haven't been murdered, maimed, assaulted, raped or sold into slavery. Neither have most of the people on here, so most of us are bloody lucky beggars. We're lucky we even have a football club, let alone one that has it's own footballs and players with all their limbs intact. So put that in your pipes doom mongers before you think about criticising van Gaal. The club could be managed by a Nazi, so just be grateful we have a manger who doesn't espouse a eugenics based ideology while woefully misusing the resources at his disposal.

Sorry to be Mr. Downer, but I think our luck is changing.

We have had nothing but luck this season (for the most part), winning games we should have drawn or lost, drawing games we should have lost. We lose to Swansea who we deserved to beat last week.

Our typical rivals for CL all starting the season well below average - now they all look better than us and are getting the results.

FA Cup & League Cup Draws which couldn't have been better, now we get Arsenal.

Rivals for CL space all being in Europe so it makes it more difficult for them - not anymore by the looks of things.

I have been saying it for a while, it has been more luck than judgement that has gotten us where we are in the league (which I still think is sub-par), but now lady luck seems to be getting fed up of bailing out LVG and our superstar flops, it could be a messy end to the season!

I woke up happy today as well, sorry if this depresses anyone, but I think the tide is changing!

27 Feb 2015 10:50:28
I'm not feeling too good so thought I would come on here see if things had turned round a bit and I was expecting a few more positive posts, then I read this. You can look at Spurs, liverpool and arsenal probably going out of Europe 2 ways, one that it means they won't have as many fixtures, or 2 that they aren't very good hence why they lose.

This luck we supposedly had all season didn't seem to be around during the burnley away game and leicester away game, luck is exactly that, luck, it doesn't come and go, and we have had our fair share of good and bad luck this season.

Agree6 Disagree2

27 Feb 2015 11:00:19

Strange isn't it that we were winning games we "didn't deserve" to win using a terrible formation and tactics and then when we change to a formation everybody was clambering for we lost when we should have won. If United changed back to 352 and started picking up wins regularly would you still complain? I think the answer yes, unfortunately the answer wouldn't be yes to the question; do you know anything about football.

Agree1 Disagree2

27 Feb 2015 11:26:05
Yes we have been riding our luck this season, a lot, but we have also been very unlucky.
Somebody once quoted "Luck is a very thin wire between survival and disaster, and not many people can keep their balance on it" very true.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Feb 2015 11:48:41
I think it is fair to say that this season there have been more than our normal amount of games which we have won and didn't deserve to or got a point at least. Frequently I hear the manager say we didn't play well, but we got the point/s.

Ed001 - Yeah I thought we were getting to way laid on other matters and not focussing on the impending doom of the LVG era at Old Trafford, get a nice post on here to get the Utd apocalypse highlighted again haha

GDS2 - Sorry mate - even if it means they aren't that good, it still means that they have less fixture congestion and can focus on their domestic games without having to juggle. It's definitely a bad thing for our CL hopes with them all suffering in Europe.

AJH - I've got a good balance, happy happy sunshine guy in normal life, the natural down moments I decide to come on my favourite website to vent, haha

Tot 66 - Can't resist a little personal dig can you? People are fully within their rights to call me a pint half empty kind of guy, or a perfectionist, or even a realist, but somebody that knows nothing about football, seriously!? Just because our points of view differ it doesn't mean I don't know what I am talking about.

In any case, that Gomis winner would have happened if we played 8 at the back, it was an "UNLUCKY" goal to concede, which is kind of my point, I don't think they got in our half during that 2nd half of the game. We are playing 3-5-2 anyway, just Blind sometimes stands a bit further forward when we have the ball - it's 5-3-2 in defence, 4/2-4/6-2 in attack (or meant to be dependent on what you class the wing backs as). We looked the most secure I have seen us in a while against Swansea, which is kind of my point.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Feb 2015 12:52:23
Apparently we can predict when we will be lucky or unlucky!! Come on Beast.
How about Spurs away in the first half, we missed a hatful of chances, goalkeeper made saves when he didn't even see the ball, hit the bar/post. Where was the luck there?
Where was the luck against Burnley away, two nailed on penalties and the ref turned them both away.
Or the luck at Leicester when Rafa was judged to have fouled and replays showed that was a very bad decision.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Feb 2015 13:01:20
I have tried to post this response before but it wasn't put up. Maybe the Ed though it might attract grief so chose not to post it, so the same may well happen again, but here goes anyway.
Beast, I know this is a typically negative post of yours, but I honestly think you are just on a.constant fishing expedition on here
Just about every post you put up is basically criticizing. The team you claim to love. No doubt your army of groupies will respond by saying you are entitled to your opinion, which of course you are.
But to me, you just seem to post as much negative stuff as you can, courting controversy and debate. Surely you, as a United fan must take SOME enjoyment from being a fan, otherwise what is the point?
Before I get the usual replies about being a LvG lover., let me tell you I am not. But I think you should realise that your constant criticising of the manager for absolutely everything means, in my view, you lose credibility. You used to justify your views with some sensible rationalisation.
Sorry for the rant mate, and it is nothing personal. But honestly, I think that just for your own sanity, you should perhaps try being a little less negative.
I don't think.ANYONE is happy with the way things are at the moment, or even happy with the manager. But you cannot constantly blame him for everything. And to suggest we have been so lucky this season is daft. Sure, we have had some luck in a few games, but so does every team. What about the ridiculous amount if injuries, especially earlier in the season. I read the other day you were sympathising for Klopp at Dortmund because of the injuies they have suffered, hence their poor season. This is just one example of double standards, where you apply one arguement for other teams and their manager , but not.to the team you support.
We all get that you hate LvG, and you are not the only one. But your posts may carry a little more credence if you were a little more balanced with your posts.

Agree3 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - it has been posted before, please don't keep repeating yourself just because you didn't notice.}

27 Feb 2015 13:55:16
Betty - no sympathy from me to Klopp about injuries, I don't know enough about their situation to have an opinion on that, wrong guy mate.

In terms of enjoyment, you are right I don't get anywhere near the enjoyment I used to have from watching Utd. It pains me at the moment because the players we have and infrastructure we have should encourage entertaining football, but maybe my constant negativity ironically reflects our approach to games.

I still get the excitement just before kick off and as this season we have played less games right now I can't wait until 3pm Saturday, but it is getting very tiresome and has been for 3-4 years waiting for that pre game excitement to be justified. There have been some great games in that time don't get me wrong, but the long and short of it is that I am disgruntled supporter, my support won't waver but my patience does.

I relished our success and I will bitch about our demise, simply because it is totally avoidable.

Agree0 Disagree1

27 Feb 2015 14:00:41
Betty - I am not a Beast 'groupie' as you have nicely put it and I don't agree with all of his views or opinions. Infact the thing about this site is everyone agree and disagree with each others opinions daily.

There are weeks were I might agree with all Beasts posts, there are weeks I might agree with none. There are weeks I agree with yours and times I will not. The same could be said for any regular poster be that GDS, Red Man, AJH, GCU etc.

But at the end of the day Beast has been constant in his posts this season and if that's how he feels then it's his right to vent. If you believe he is 'fishing' then simply don't take the bait. We all want the team to do well mate but we all have different expectations and views and no one is right or wrong when expressing them.

Ed001,

I posted something similar recently and it wasn't posted, that's all. I didn't miss it. But irrespective of that, the above wasn't intended as a moan about any of the Eds not posting it. Sorry if it came across that way. I totally understand if any posts aren't put up because they may be seen by yourselves as 'inflammatory'.

JMB, for what its worth mate, "Beast groupie" was just a throwaway comment aimed at posters who only EVER post anything negative. Usually after games. You certainly are not one of them.
I accept that everyone is entitled to air their views, and that includes Beast, obviously. I just wish he could portray them in a more balanced way. I felt the same last season regards Moyes. I don't think Moyes or LvG are / were the answer. I just think they have got the blame for everything. Some justified, but an awful lot not.

I find it ironic that if you speak out against the negative ones, you get slated for not respecting other people's views. By the negative ones!

When fit he is much better than Valencia even going forward, Valencia must be one of the poorest wingers in the world when it comes to delivering a ball in the box and really has zero end product and just smashes the ball.

Rafael like most offensive minded fullbacks will always have a lapse in concentration defensively and not great in the air. Unfortunately he is unable to stay free of injuries and undependable, if retained is a back up squad player.

2 years ago we could have named our price for Rafael, he was one of my favourite players. It's horrible to see how he can't even get a game ahead of Valencia or McNair.

Maybe his brother leaving had something to do with it. I appreciate he is injury prone, but no more so than half the rest of the team.

I think it is because as we all know, although Rafael is great going forward, he can be a red card waiting to happen when he is defending. Whereas Valencia is average going forward these days, he gives a steady performance defensively, mainly because of his size.

We all used to have a go at Moyes for being captain defensive, but it is becoming apparent that the hailed LVG philosphy is all about being defensively strong, before scoring lots of goals. Hence three at the back, Rooney in midfield ahead of Herrera etc etc

I have forgotten we had Rafael, he's ALWAYS injured. You could be Messi, but if you only play 5 matches a season, then I'm afraid it is just not good enough. Every time he's injured (which is most of the time) he's out for two months, then he comes back, makes some rash tackles and he's out again.
I really like him, but I think we've had 5 years of him being injured mostly. So he has to be replaced I'm afraid.

If the club didn't think rooney is worth the money then they won't have renewed the contract. Simple as that.

Yes and if Chelsea did not think Torres is not worth 50 million they would not have paid the amount.
Similarly we clearly thought Mata was worth 37.

A decision has been taken by the club does not necessarily mean it is the right decision.

So Mumbai Boy, do you think Rooney is a waste of space and we should just get rid?
Take the blinkers off and look at what he's achieved and is still doing a job for us. There are at least 10 players I'll get rid off before Rooney.
