Not saying i want any of this, but watching the Chelsea Benfica match tonight i thought Gaitan was great, tracked back well, looked dangerous and had good delivery - something that we severly lack, no ones seems to be able to deliver a good corner.

Other than Gaitan i thought Witsel and Garcia were good. Maybe interest is there, i wonder if Martin Ferguson was there? I'm sure we will find out if he was.

Red man...

I was reading your post about Welbeck and I have to say I completely agree with what you and the Ed's are saying. He's a good player and he's still got potential but I don't see him progressing. He's a good player but I don't think he's quite a top 6 player let alone world class.

Me, as well as others are simply hoping that he adds that ruthless finishing streak to his game and then he'll be a very decent forward. I think he plays fairly well out wide and he'll be great in cup games and games where we're cruising. But if you do look at other top clubs they have strikers who may not be perfect but they specialize in something. Instead we have a Jack of All trades which isn't a bad thing, not in the slightest I just feel he will be our O'shea of the forward line instead of the next Rooney.

I cant wait till next season. Apparently fergie wants to change the style of play and include more speed. I welcome this modification, and hope we start to play great football in europe.

Currently it is clear we lack the tactical know how in europe and that used to be our strength during the time carlos queiroz was assistant manager. I believe mike phelan should take responsibility for this, fergie has always needed a strong number 2.

If we want to play like barca and bilbao we need to make the following changes....

1) play a defensive midfielder
2) learn how to retain possession for large parts of the game
3) press high up the pitch (improve stamina)
4) move more off the ball and create options for passes
5) learn to play short quick passes in tight spaces

So a lot of work to do...but if we are serious about winning the champions league we need to implement the above.

you probably don't care but hes a surprising stat

valencia has hit 100 crosses this season with 14 assists
apparently only 3 of them were crosses :o
unless it counts crosses along the ground as passes im not sure

but lets see the other 3 main wingers
nani 148 crosses 11 assists 7 from crosses
young 86 crosses 10 assists 5 from crosses
giggs 44 crosses 11 assist 6 from crosses

surprising stuff but then you look at goals
valencia 23 shots 5 goals
young 55shots 4 goals
giggs 22 shots 4 goals
nani 80 shots 8 goals

who woulda expected that

Nico gaitan looked impressive tonight. Deliveries where excellent and he did his bit for the team, tracking back.

Javi garcia also looked solid but I like the look of benfica's right back, maxi pereira.

The rest of their defence is so poor, with the pace upfront we have I don't know how we didn't beat them.

Laughed my ass off earlier when I read that Owen wants to play on for two of three more years, he hasn't played since November and is nearly always injured. He said he has no aches in his joints, well Micheal mate if I did nothing for the best part of 6 months I probably wouldn't have any aches in my joints either.

On a completely different note, I saw something earlier that has'nt been picked up on much by this countries press.
In short, apparently the brazilian member of FIFA Texeira who resigned over payments/corruption.
Supasub {Ed002's Note - I had to cut the post because the conjecture is not something we can publish. Sorry. However, I can say that AP and the Guardian have jointly been looking in to the whole matter and sometime later in the year will be publishing some really pretty interesting results.}

First chance to talk about last nights game.

When I saw the line up I was concerned. Giggs in the centre of midfield and my only question was why. Fulham put Diarra in front of the centre of defence and had two men fairly tight in front of him in an almost V,then they got their wide players out wide which lessened the space for Valencia in particular. It meant Giggs and Carrick were outnumbered in the middle, that would be difficult enough for Keane and Scholes in their peak let alone Giggs. That is enough of an excuse for Giggs, because at 37 he has the experience and should have the ability to give the ball to a red shirt, yet he struggled. SAF must accept some responsibility in getting the tactics or more accurately the formation and personnel wrong in the middle.

There are no extra games to hold players back for, a week to the next game so did SAF really truly believe that was our best team?

We lacked penetration up front. Welbeck showed he lacks the very top class that great players at the top clubs display. He looked nervous and didnt look comfortable on the ball. Saying that neither did Hernandez, on one occasion he was running with the ball in a really dangerous area and just didnt know what to do. It was that poor upfront it was almost a time to put Berbatov on. We so need a forward of quality.

Ah the very end and the last ten minutes. Where was our composure? Experienced players like Giggs, Evra and Young fumbling around giving the ball away which was shocking and amateur. Wait until the tension really mounts.

If Pogba could not be on the bench then Petrucci should have been.

Dear oh dear anybody would have thought we had lost last night or that we are 7th in the league seeing some of the comments on here.
Yes we weren't really at the races but we got the 3 points which is all that matters at this point of the season.
Yes Giggsy was poor and I still think he's better when he plays left side, still gives the team something from out wide.
Shows how much we miss the Ginger Prince when he doesn't play, and Carrick is so much better along side Scholesy.
Welbeck and Chica were poor and i'm going to sound like a broken record but in games when opponents park the bus like Fulham did, then it is time for Berba.
He would have been much more suited to last night's game, he can make chances and score goals in tight areas which is what we needed.
Please Fergie don't forget about him, we all know he is leaving but I feel he could still help us get over the line. The home games against Villa, Everton and Swansea spring to mind.

I would like to see us sign Chieck Tiote from newcastle. We need some steel in our midfield and he certenly will add that. Great vison never stops running and tracks back. Make a 17 million bid and i think we will get him. Him Hazard valencia and young in midfiled next season OMG THAT WOULD BE AWSEOME!!! KAYLEM1300

poor scousers are in absolute melt down on there own page about ''king'' kenny, Its actually embarrassing reading some of the things they are saying about him, They 100% adored him when he came back but i have to admit, i actually feel sorry 4 him now tho, but still, some of the stick they are putting up about him is way over the top, fickle fans.

i hear united are buying another twelve acres in trafford park. On hearing this mancini apparently said "i don't know what position this park plays but i am putting in an immediate counter bid." serious note anyone know why we're snapping up land all around the ground? One theory i heard was its to do with the new rail line.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has moved to clarify the situation over the club's youngsters amid criticism from Patrick Vieira, Manchester City's director of football development.

Earlier this week, Vieira hinted Paul Scholes was drafted back into the United squad because they were struggling to bring young players through, with Ravel Morrison having left the club for West Ham in January, and the current doubts over Paul Pogba's future.

Pogba, 18, has been offered a new long-term contract at Old Trafford as his current deal ends in the summer, but is stalling over putting pen to paper - and has been linked with a move to Juventus.

The Frenchman is believed to be frustrated at a lack of first-team chances, although he has been involved at that level recently, appearing against Wolves, West Brom and Athletic Bilbao.

Ferguson has pulled up Vieira by stating in no uncertain terms that while he wants Pogba to stay, Morrison was sold with his blessing. "The point he made about Ravel Morrison, losing our young players … We wanted to sell Ravel Morrison, let's be perfectly clear about that," he said. "We want [Pogba] to stay because we think he's going to be a fantastic Manchester United player."

I have to say I am disappointed in Martin Jol's reaction to the penalty decision. Yes it was a penalty, but in real time it did look like Carrick took the ball cleanly. To question the referee's integrity by saying the referee wasn't brave enough to give the decision was disappointing. United have conceded nine penalties at OT this season, that is seven more than any other home side have conceded. The ref made a innocent mistake and Jol should be punished by the FA over his comments. Carrick kicking Murphy's foot onto the ball in real time speed would have confused any referee. A referee will look to see which way the ball goes to decide who got the touch on the ball, if Carrick had got the ball it would have went in that direction. Honest mistake by a referee, not a blind eye turned.

last night was poor, i know we won and that was all i wanted, but again certain players dont deserve their shirts.
i thought the back five were very good, except evra should not be captain, we all know our thoughts on the guy no need in explaining. Jonny evans was exceptional last night, had the forward in his pocket, and his header in the last seconds, from riise throw, showed how much he has come on. previously he would of got no where near that ball, or gave away a penalty.
We lost it in midfield, when you have giggs and carrick as your two centre mids, its always going to be a difficult night. the tempo was to slow from them and they seemed to struggle to get back at times, resulting in evans and ferdinand losing their positions. Giggs has been a terrific servant for us, but when a major part of his game was his pace, it shows someone is needed for cm. there is nine games left, no chance for fatigue keep the same team until an injury, because this constant change is not good.
the stats showed we had 22 attempts and 11 on goal, yet we only managed the one goal. welbeck was poor last night, someone like andy cole or michael owen needs to pull him aside and teach him the art of finish, because this guy could of scored alot this season, it just seems that wehenever he gets a shooting opportunity it goes to head and he fluffs it. hernandez has been found out, last year, defenders would stay tight on him, which gave him the chance to run into space. however defenders understand that he hasn't got a first touch, cant pass, his shoot is lame and hes no good in one on ones. its a shame we couldn't combine welbeck and hernandez to make the perfect player. we need a more accomplished forward next season.
the result was good last night the performance has to improve.

Very dissapointed with last nights performance but a win is a win and it's another three points in the bag. I was hoping we would claw back some of that goal differance but the last 20 minutes we were hanging on at home against Fulham.
I might get some stick for this but why the hell was Ryan Giggs playing in the centre of midfield nevermind even playing.
His passing is sloppy, he is allways caught out of position and the game is just to quick for him.
The number of times i seen him just casually trotting back when we were under pressure was unreal! Apart from the one ball he put through to Valencia he was shocking!
I just don't understand why Fergie would drop Scholes the form he's in.
He could played Cleverley, Scholes or Pogba who are natural centre midfielders.
Giggs has been a great servant to the club and i love the guy to bits but the time has come to call it a day, the more i see of him the worse he gets!

All I have to say that Giggs was TERRIBLE today! He tried to play the long balls over top and across the field (a la Scholes) and was found lacking almost every time!! He turned the ball over time and time again and looked lazy tracking back and trying to win the ball. Why he wasnt the one that came off for Scholes, still baffles me! I found it kinda frustrating how he seems to get a pass from commentators and media as I didnt hear one criticism of his play throughout the whole match and then you have De Gea who punches the ball out well and clear near the start of the first half and all you hear is "oh he looked a little unsure there!" De Gea has been brilliant for us and without him we coulda been down a goal early as he made two good saves on Dempsey! To end my Giggs rant, as he is signed for another year, he should definitely be used sparingly next year and only when needed or when you want to rest others during Carling Cup matches and early FA Cup games...I wont deny that he may serve to fill an important leadership role off the pitch, but his time on it should be limited and the minutes should be filled by either new quality signings, or by youth

Today, it was clear that we lacked that cutting edge. We had some nice plays but once we got into the final 1/3 lacked options or vision. Looking back on the game we were clear winners but we could of so easily ended with a draw for a lack of quality in the squad. I love giggs but really think he should be used more as a sub and maybe Berbatov should of been utilised in Welback place. We really looked dangerous when we play with speed and hope Fergie addresses this in the summer since personally i don't thing they do it enough.

I hope for Blackburn away we go back to Carrick and Jones in centre mid. They were outstanding earlier in the season. Scholes and Giggs should be subs ready to come on with 30 mins to go. Smalling to come in at Right back and Chicho up front.
