I love this site. I love the banter, but it completely does my head in when I see real silly posts. I have been watching Zaha since he turned our midfield and defence inside out about two years ago. He has all that is needed to be a top player. He is quick, strong, skills galore and full of CONFIDENCE. Is he the finished/polished player? No. But he will get there, as he continues to improve season after season. It is stupid to compare him to CR7, as even he, at 20, was raw and frustrating. But you know what's even more frustrating? When people suggest that he isn't ready for the premiere league. How stupid is that? He is playing better than many of those now in the league. Seriously? I Wish our wingers were on his kinda form this season. We tend to underestimate and put players down because they are in a lower league. That's part of the reason he single handedly over ran our mid/defense few years back.
I have no doubt that this lad will prove to be the real deal and will bring much needed excitement to our play. Similar to what Ronnie did. Now I am not comparing him to Ronaldo, and I don't want him to become the new Ronaldo. I want him to be Zaha, his own man, a top player for MUFC.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Heare heare ronaldo wsnt the finished article but he was given a chance at a young age if you look at the 92 class if you're good enough you play what do you want them all to leave like pogba I was brought up wiyh docherts team and would rather see our team play with flair and excitment and win nothing than play like mourino is going to once you get the lead sit on it a red united fan

Agree0 Disagree0

He'll be a very good player. But needs to work on his crossing, shooting, and decision making.

Agree0 Disagree0

Some players continue developing, especially with their decision-making (Ronaldo) and some players stop developing and never are able to make the right decision and produce the right pass (Nani). Physical ability based, Nani is probably a top 5 player in the world. In reality, he can't get more than a match a month for United. It's a crapshoot, there's no way to know who's going to take that next step and who's going to plateau. Zaha seems to be loved by his coaches and teammates, as well as the fans, so we can hope that having a good attitude and personality can make his development to an elite level more likely.

i know this is my big thing at the moment but I am really really worried. if it is true that Rene is leaving then I just wonder who is going to prepare the team as Rene has done all season. Please god no don't let all the Everton back room team be brought into United. We are Manchester United not Everton. I have never heard one person on here say in the past "You know what I wish we played like Everton". This is such a big risk and I am so scared it is all going to back fire on us.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Kloot

I agree, I am very concerned if Rene leaves and so are all my United friends and also even more concerned if the answer is the Everton back room staff.

When SAF retired I imagine he would have wanted the majority of his backroom staff to stay but how would Everton staff be an improvement on what we had? (Phelan apart)

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2013 21:10:17
I'm 100% with you on this one Kloot. Rene has to stay as first team coach.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oooohhhh Rene - it's like something from 'Allo 'Allo! Ha! *sorry*

I don't remember for a few seasons now United playing with the flair of our best teams 99 or even 2008 so not too bothered.

It's been the determination of SAF that won us games. We have got to let Moyes have his own staff and judge him over the season.

Fergie chopped and changed his back room staff too.

Pedroknight

Agree0 Disagree0

Most managers do it when appointed, he's the man who makes his own decisions long may it continue we need a leader whose not afraid, you'll be we'll chuffed if he convinces Rooney to stay.
Dylan

Agree0 Disagree0

Any manager that comes in will want to do it his own way and will include his own staff.
Moyes will come in with his own ideas of how to play and transfer targets and he is a determined bloke he will do it his own way.
I think some people thought moyes would come in a and be a mini fergy,
But make no mistakes moyes will do it his way.
Never mind all the continuity talk we will be a very different team next year which is why some people have been very concerned about fergy leaving

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha!

Hillarious post from Dylan! Take a bow son.

Agree0 Disagree0

Of course David Moyes wants his own back room staff, any manager would. He's off on holiday next week so I presume transfer target, and issues around Rooney etc, will be settled this week and David Gill will deal with contracts.

Agree0 Disagree0

Must admit Rene staying is a must and he should stay involved with the first team. By all meen's bring in moyes could bring in his own number two but it must be someone with the knowledge needed to challenge in Europe tactics wise and to play a more pressing game so we are more fluid with the ball and more aggressive/pressing without it. let's just hope that will be the case. Also they need to make sure that we get the best out of Kagawa next season playing him in the hole behind the striker as his control/passing and decision making are excellent.

Agree0 Disagree0

Moyes will play his way, not what some number 2 says

Agree0 Disagree0

Would like to see rene stay but its moyes choice, if we do well he will take the praise if we don't he will get the stick.
johndenton

Agree0 Disagree0

Phelan out, I can understand. But why Eric Steele and Rene? They were doing an excellent job.
Also, they knew the players and they would have helped Moyes settle in.
NoMidfield

Agree0 Disagree0

Dylan, I have a funny feeling KLOOT will not be 'chuffed' if Moyes manages to persuade Wayne to stay.

Just a suspicion :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Perhaps Rene didn't understand the only command he was supposed to give the players at training. "KICK THE BALL AS FAR AS YOU CAN TOWARDS THE OTHER TEAM'S GOAL!". Devastated at Rene and Steele leaving. Rene had done a great job at every level at United, and Steele just turned a lightweight, tentative teenager into a top 5 keeper in the world in two seasons. I just worry that if hiring coaches with mediocre records and experience is his plan now, will he bring in the Everton-mediocre quality players too? We are Manchester United, not Liverpool's little brother, and we need the best, not the ones Moyes is most familiar with. Seems odd that Moyes appears to have used up his whatever good will I was planning on giving him in support on overhauling the coaching staff that just won a trophy (maybe he's unclear what a trophy is). Now I have no inclination to give him slack for the transfer window or the start of the season, as not keeping Rene and Steele is petty, and dangerous to the continuity that was the supposed reason for Moyes hire. Give me Mourinho, Rene and Steele, and there will be less transitional problems than Moyes and his yes-men. Just a sloppy and stupid way to start off one's time at the club, and it frightens me that perhaps the rest of his dealings (transfers, on the pitch formations/styles) will also be Everton-centric, which is great if you never want to finish above 6th. Not hating on Everton, but am saying that what worked to grab 6-7th each year is completely different than the task of winning multiple trophies, especially in Europe where Moyes has about as much experience as I do. I want to support him, but this isn't a good start to the relationship David!

Agree0 Disagree0

This is quite funny since we were playing some champagne football the last couple of years right?

We sat back and defended with 10 men in so many games and frankly the football was ugly so don't really get the moaning.

Let's see how the new manager does and sorry to disappoint you he is not a puppet on a string and will make his own decisions, which is very encouraging.

Johndenton your a genius, instead of sacking a manager for a run of poor performances let's just beat him instead. The bruises will remind him to do better in the next game.

Being from Glasgow i'm sure he's used to the odd beating with sticks. Lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 May 2013 08:41:11
Jred, i'm sure Moyes will do things his way. But the whole point of having an assistant manager is for them to be a sound board for the managers ideas. They are supposed to disscuss things and come up with the best solution together. What we don't need is to replace Phelan with another nodding dog. The best manager/ assistant combinations normally come from having two people who have a different train of thought but can work well together. A defensive minded person and a creative minded person working together to come up with the best solution.

Steve Round nods his head so much he could sell insurance.

Agree0 Disagree0

Snappy
I'm sure it was only last week you were praising how Everton under moyes and Steve round played football similar to Dortmund wasn't it, so what's the problem
Jred

Agree0 Disagree0

I said the set up was similar not the quaility.

Sure Moyes will have better players at his disposal at United compared to Everton. But better players need better coaching.

Neither he or Steve Round have had any success in europe. Nor are either of them used to setting up a team to play two important games every week.

I had hoped that Moyes would be looking to step up his approach and learn the new skills required to manage at the highest level. But him bringing all his backroom staff from Everton shows maybe an arrogance maybe a naivity as to the size of the job infront of him.

Surely he knew the limitations of the players and the staff at Everton but he worked with that to the best of his ability to get the best out of what he had.

He doesn't have those limitations at United, he can not only attract the best players which he couldn't do at Everton but he can attract the best staff also.

So bring in the whole back room staff from Everton shows he either thinks they are good enough or he has underestimated the task infront of him.

I wanted him to bring his own ideas and methods but at the same time show that he is willing to learn.

A man unwilling to learn will accomeplish nothing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Shappy
I think all them concerns have all ready been raised, I think moyes like any manager was always going to bring in his own people.
There was supposedly a feeling at Everton that moyes was getting a bit arrogant but I think you need that to be a top manager.
For me all these changes where always going to happen it's all part and parcel of getting a new manager.
Maybe the full implications of getting a new manager are starting to sink in.
That said I think moyes has the potential to be a top manager I just wonder if we are taking a bit if a chance

Dylan

Agree0 Disagree0

Unless he's your brother, cousin or best best friend, how would you possibly know he wouldn't.
Stop kidding yourself, for the reasons I've stated, he most certainly would.
I'm not saying he definitely will be coming to utd, but if choice of utd and arsenal, then he will choose a team he can count and show medals to his sons etc once he's give the game up etc

Agree0 Disagree0

You replied to the wrong post.

And I think you're the one kidding yourself.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2013 20:11:25
Makes me laugh .
All the Arsenal fans assuming Fabregas wouldn't join UTD as he's supposedly said in past if come back to UK will only be for Arsenal etc etc.
Well ask yourself this.
Even if he said this previously.
Would he rather join Arsenal again etc thru loyalty etc.
Or join a team that wins the league year in year out, along side Mr van persie etc who no doubt would be telling him
"God Cesc, we thought Arsenal was big club etc, But Utd different experience etc etc, 8yrs at Arsenal won nowt (barring an F. a. Cup) medal ( that was lucky as we bossed that final but couldn't stick the winner in)
8 months at Utd won prem title!
or rather come back and help Arsenal try for regular fourth place year in year out?
Hard one that!!
Nothing against Arsenal, but only a fool would believe Fabregas would choose Arsenal over Utd. Been there, tried that, didn't really work trophy wise, so if he's got any ambition to play in team that should still be challenging for title even though Fergie gone then that's easy choice where I'm sat.
Also we'd play him almost every game, where bit part player at Barcelona.
What everyone else's thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would take Fabregas over Thiago every single time.
Just imagine we bought Thiago and Arsenal bought Cesc I would say Arsenal got by far the best deal.

Do we really want that?

Agree0 Disagree0

Cesc wouldn't join united, sorry to say.

He's an Arsenal legend and its clear he still loves the gunners. He's not like RvP, Nasri, etc

Agree0 Disagree0

If barca let's cesc go, he would more likely than not join the next club who offers him the best wages, contract, environment to play the best football and improve as a player, ability to win trophies. yes cesc loves arsenal but this is his career and very rarely do footballers let their emotions take over them when discussing transfers. he's not a boyhood arsenal fan
Robin moved to win medals and taste success. I don't see anything unethical about that. viera is a gunners legend, did he not play for city? For whatever reason it was for

Agree0 Disagree0

He's not like nasri rvp etc but hang on he left his beloved arsenal, erm just like any ambitious player would. You can like your place of work but if someone offers you better money in a better company you're a fool not to take the job. Football is not about loyalty to anyone but the fans who create a tribal insularity around their clubs. The players are employees, mostly with no affiliation to their clubs. Ego and wanting to be loved makes players try to ingratiate themselves with the fans, badge kissing etc. fans buy into this because of their need to feel that their club transcends the normal greedy world we live in.
Snakey

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought RVP was a arsenal legend until he got tired of winning nothing. Interesting that your legends have won zilch in trophies at the club. We have a different yardstick I guess LOL

man utd ins:
bale,
2 of fabregas/strootman/thiago

outs
nani
anderson
valencia or young

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That would be great but I think Evra may leave so we would probably sign Baines as a replacement.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Moyes will hang onto Anderson. With Fletcher and unknown, Cleverley unable to perform, and neither Kagawa nor Rooney best served in a CM role, I think he stays on. Also, we wouldn't get a real fee for him, and he's still young, and when he plays he does show periods of exactly what we need from our cms. I wish Moyes would wake him up every morning for a ten mile run. He's already our only CM who can penetrate a defense or turn a midfielder and start a counterattack on his own. I want to keep Anderson, and my suspicion tells me so does Moyes. Nani/Valencia/Young could or should be sold, but I don't see all three leaving. While talk has been on the right side due to Zaha's arrival, I still believe Nani and Valencia can be of value to the team, while Young is always hurt and when he's healthy, he's not on United's level. Send him to Tottenham as part of the Bale deal if possible. Not that I think any Bale deal is likely. We seem to be taking our time this summer, which has put us at a disadvantage. Here's hoping they surprise their fans, but w/o SAF, I don't think Moyes has the power to force the club to buy a big player. We'll stick to the 15-25mil range we're comfortable with, and we won't improve our starting XI that will have to face a Bayern or Barca side that will be better than this season. Season of 20, Summer of Anxiety. Not what I was expecting a month ago for damn sure.

Agree0 Disagree0

"We'll stick to the 15-25mil range we're comfortable with, and we won't improve our starting XI "

KG How many of our starting 11 are worth 25 million pounds mate so how does buying a couple of 20-25 million pound players not going to significantly improve us.

Here is few that start in the first 11 just to think about:

Nani/Valencia, Anderson/Cleverly, Giggs, Young/Welbeck, Evra, Evans,

Do you think anyone of them will fetch us 20 million in the market, I say none. How many will fetch us 10 million?

I won't even go to the 25 number because it would be unfair.

I think this summer was always going to be crazy given the quality of players being available and you think 40 to 50 million is what we need to spend on a single layer to improve is completely wrong.

I will take 3 players for 18 million pounders and get rid of the dead wood and sleep well knowing we have added 3 genuine starters and will be a hell of lot better than this year.

Shahram, you were asking about the young striker at Saint Etienne. His name is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (and yes I did google to make sure I spelt it right. Lol).

I've watched him a few times and he looks a decent prospect. He certainly knows where the goal is, I think he needs to work on his passing which can be poor. Personally I think he needs to go to a team like Newcastle, Everton or maybe even Spurs to adapt to the Premier league before he would be ready for a top tier team. But I only have a limited knowledge of him.

Mick is the guy to ask about him, he's the expert on french football. {Ed002's Note - Actually Shappy you may have it nailed. Clubs are not so sure he is ready to step up.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Shappy

Same here, I think very interesting prospect that might turn out to be big hit. I have watched him a few times too and he is so quick to pull the trigger and very pacey.

He can also play on the left wing, which is an added bonus. Arsenal might also be good place for him as Wenger loves his french players.

Shahram

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2013 20:43:41
He might be a Drogba type player who isn't ready for a top team unitl he's around 26/27. He's worth keeping and eye on, he has come a long way over the last year. It's important to see if he has the class or whether he's just in a rich vein of form. Like I said he has a few areas to work on.

Arsenal could be a good place for him.

Agree0 Disagree0

He is not as big as drogba but has some pace on him and actually a pretty good passer.

I just read PSG/Arsenal/Chelsea/Spurs are interested and it wll interesting to see how he does with a bigger club.

Shahram

Agree0 Disagree0

Forgot he is actually african and I thought he was french:)

Shahram

Agree0 Disagree0

When I said "Drogba type player" I didn't mean in playing style but in that he didn't reach his potential until he was older. No one in there right mind would have paid 24m for Drogba when he was 23. but when he was 27 it was a differnt matter, and by the time he was 30 that 24m looked like a bargin.

I think he may follow a similar path, but to do so he needs to keep on improving.

Bit of a ramdon one here!

What number will Zaha be given at UTD? Could he grab the 9 shirt

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I expect him to get Nani's number when he leaves.

Agree0 Disagree0

No why would we give him the 9?

It'll be in the high teens.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can see Zaha wearing the 9

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2013 21:16:18
So winger who's only played in the championship is going to get the united number 9 in his first season at United? Can't see it myself.

Agree0 Disagree0

For some reason I think it will happen, unless Welbeck calls it first. At the end of the day its a spare number.

Agree0 Disagree0

Think people are overplaying the importance of the shirt number thing, the only real use of it for the club is involving merchandising.

We gave tony v 7, so anyone could grab 9.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2013 22:42:59
Probably the third most iconic number in united's history and you'd give it to a rookie.

Zaha

He has a very good balance and the ability to beat a player up close, a skill that should not be underestimated. He can create a yard of space and has the physicality to meet the demands of the premier league. People like to compare him to Ronaldo, well he is not at that level, that is a very special level. He does not have the foot speed of Ronaldo for a start but interestingly I remember reading about CR7 training with weights on his ankles to help improve his foot speed. He doesn't look to have the blistering pace of CR7 or the heading ability. On the heading ability Ronaldo learned that and so can Zaha, he has the potential to have a similar physique as well.
Zaha needs to work on his final ball and decision making something that Ronaldo did. It is that development that will define his level of a player, Zaha has good attributes but I would not compare him closely with Ronaldo because CR was a special talent.

Zaha could be interesting if given a settling in period and we should not over expect next season

Red Man

Believable0 Unbelievable0

There is something else I like about Zaha which isn't being mentioned is the fact he seems very down to earth and hard working for a 20 year old. I think Moyes will appreciate his work ethic too. After a year of boring and unproductive wingers, I for one will be glad to see someone take on the full backs.

Zaha looks fast and strong and has a few tricks but needs to work on his passing, positioning and defending back.
AJ

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He is just 20. We're buying potential not the finished article.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2013 18:06:15
I watched the game today and paid particular attention to Zaha. He is clearly young and rough around the edges but|

1. He loves to take a man on, which Valencia has stopped doing.
2. He can withstand a challenge without falling over, something Nani can't.
3. He seems to have lots of tricks, whereas Young tends to do the same thing again and again.
4. He has energy and pace, something we have lacked this year.

All in all, huge potential and an exciting signing. I'd throw him in and let him show us what he is made of.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Great potential, but not ready for premier league.
His passing, crossing and decision making is lacking, but playing with top players, all these can improve.
He ducked out of some challenges, which is not our style.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mate, he is ready for the premier league, look at teams coming from the championship e.g southhampton.

if they were not ready, why would they be still in the league?

example- luke shaw. if he was playing in the championship you'd say he's not ready, but look at him, at 18 and playing a lot of first team.
zaha may not be ready to be no. 1 for utd but he's ready to play in the top division

Been having a think about our striker situation over the past few days, and I can really see another one being bought in. I think it's fair to say RVP is our first choice striker, so assuming Rooney does go (and even if he doesn't I imagine he'll be played deeper), we're left with Hernandez. Welbeck, while a good player with an incredible work rate, is not a player who will bag us 15/20 goals a season. His future lies in a more defensive wing position, someone we can put on the pitch to break up counter attacks and generally be a nuisance in the final third of the pitch.

So that leaves us with RVP and Hernandez (who should NOT be sold) as our out and out strikers. We've always had 4 strikers through out Fergie's era and I can't see that changing under Moyes. Perhaps I can see either Will Keane or Angelo Henriquez making a step up to the bench (with the other one getting a decent loan spell). So I think we will see another striker come in, perhaps not the caliber of Lewandowski, but maybe a similar purchase to Hernandez when we bought him a few years back; a solid player who won't expect a place in the starting XI every week. but will none the less grab us 10ish goals a season.

Thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Zaha could be used as a fourth choice striker if we've got injuries?
TRUMORS

Agree0 Disagree0

If Rooney does leave, we will be short up front. An injury to RVP and we would look very light. If Rooney stays, no needed for a striker, if he goes, I would look to bring one in.

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to remember that RvP has a shaky injury record. Gone two years without any major incidents, but just something to keep in mind

Been impressed with zaha today, some good tricks and runs yes his final ball isn't great but if I recall we had a Portuguese fella in Ronaldo who couldn't hit a barn door at the start, not saying zaha will be as good as Ronaldo but he's going to be a great player for us and is like him given a chance next season as he will do something none of our wingers did this season, he will be positive and not be afraid to take in his man. He's got great pace too which he showed to win the penalty!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sorry when was this time Ronaldo couldn't hit a barn door. Don't you remember his debut against Bolton. He was quality from the beginning

Agree0 Disagree0

KLOOT, bit harsh mate. His debut was mesmerising but he took time to hit top form. He did tend to fall over at the slightest touch initially. Whilst he clearly had incredible talent, I didn't see him going on to be one of the best in the world in the way he has.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would go easy there guys. Ronaldo has much faster feet and can shoot but Zaha looks stronger. Ronaldo put Gary Neville to the sword at 19 and GV was at the time considered the best rb around.

I am undecided on the boy and need to see how he does against better defenders

Shahram

Agree0 Disagree0

Zaha skinned us at 17, turned us inside out
Carlos the jackal

Agree0 Disagree0

Ronaldo destroyed John O'Shea at 18. Anybody who didn't think he was going to be a superstar after that Lisbon game wasn't watching very closely.

J Bones.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am with Kloot, Ronaldo had the potential to be the worlds best player from the first moment he stepped on that pitch against Bolton. It is a moment I will never forget because you rarely see a true all time great genius up so close for your own team

Let us not build Zaha up too far, yes he has a talent, he can beat a player up close which is a great attribute but CR developed and channeled his brilliance, Zaha has a long way to go and we will see how he develops

Red Man

Agree0 Disagree0

A little bit different doing it against a second string united side in the carling cup compared to doing it to a full first 11 against one of the best RB in the world.

Anyway I hope he does come as advertised and more than happy to give him a few seasons to prove it and will not be one to slag him off for the bad game as that is fully expected.

Shahram

Agree0 Disagree0

Great potential, but needs to work on his crossing, passing, decision making. Also, I've not seen him shoot or head the ball.
So, if he can improve, then we might have a good player.
Nomidfield

According to postings today deals have been concluded for Fabregas, Strootman and Thiago with Bale to follow. Not much room left in midfield then! We shall see.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'll be surprised if any of these come.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2013 17:04:12
If we do sign strootman and thiago I think that they will not be announced until after the u21 championship.

If we do sign them how are we going to line up as I don't see carrick being droped and I hope the kagawa can play behind rvp.

Is there a possibility that we will sign bale or is he going to real if he doesn't stay?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If we signed Strootman and Thiago then the think the way forward is to play a midfield diamond type formation. Play two up front, with Kagawa playing behind them in the hole. Then have a midfield three of Carrick Strootman and Thiago with Carrick playing deepest.

Our best performances have come from playing that formation this season. And with the form of our wingers and the likelyhood that Nani will be moving on. Maybe its best we use a formation that doesn't rely on wingers. Otherwise we are going to need to sign at least two new ones.

The width would come from the full backs, then if we get caught on the counter Carrick can drop back into the defence to cover the full backs. Similar to how Martinez did for Bilbao a couple of seasons ago.

When going forward the team would have Carrick at the base of the team with Strootman and Thiago infront of him using their ability on the ball to dictate the tempo, Rafael and Evra or Buttner providing width, RvP and one of Rooney/ Hernandez or Welbeck playing upfront and Kagawa playing in the hole as the man extra linking and creating everything.

Then we could look to replace Carrick and maybe a new Striker and maybe a left back the following summer. Maybe Wanyama, Digne and Fischer. With Powell and Januzaj really having an impact in the first team.

Agree0 Disagree0

If thiago and strootman are signed, both who I assume would not want to be mere squad players, then we could lineup in a midfield diamond for majority of games with shinji at the top, strootman and thiago either side and michael sitting. this would be detrimental to our wingers.
With neymar going to barca then the bet would be for real to try make a marquee signing as well. As it is they are already making glances at bale.

Zaha trying to do too much. No end product. And not intetsted in tracking back. Most worrying is his crossing.
No way he's ready for premiership.

He's the most naturally gifted player on the pitch. If he isn't ready for the premiership then none of the 22 players on the pitch are ready for it.

He is a young player, no young player makes the right decisions all the time, and the all have aspects of their game to work on. They aren't the finished artical.

Ronaldo's crossing was poor and he made poor decisions when we signed him. But with good coaching and hard work put in by him he has become the most complete player in the world. Now I don't think Zaha will go that far, but with good coaching and hard work he has all the atributes to be a top player.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he's had a decent game to be honest, can beat a man, obviously is very raw with plenty to work on but I wouldn't want to be a left back or right back playing against him.

Your post appears quite bitter, not a united fan maybe?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he has the potential to a beast of a player and as a Man United fan and Englishman I am very excited to see what he can do for years to come! He has ridiculous pace, strength, trickery and some good vision. All he needs is to work on his final product and keep his head up going forward. I don't see how you can say he doesn't track back!

Agree0 Disagree0

The very fact that you're watching him and his mistakes speaks volume. We cry for a player that can be unpredictable and a match winner yet slate them! He's a kid! I was at OT for Ronaldo's debut and he was magnificent. I think we playedWolves next and he awful. More still a lot of my mates thought he had peaked after 2 years and was a one trick pony.

Zaha is an excellent prospect and had city or chelsea signed him then you'd be complaining. If he didn't play today do you think Palace would have won? I can't wait to see him at OT. He destroyed established players when we played them so imagine him now with better coaching. Get behind the lad. I'm happy we signed him. If he was playing in a league abroad you'd be raving about him. He's not the finished product (far from it) but neither was Bale when he went to Spurs?

Zaha seems 2 be a player with lots of potential but still is raw. He loves 2 apply tricks, skills and run through the opponents but his crossing ability and final touch is awful so I don't think he will move straight 2 our starting XI. He will be back up for valencia till he matures enough.

On transfer window, I m not hoping much of signings but I think 3 are very much possible.
1. Di maria
2. Thiago
3. Fellaini (although I would like Strootman instead)

Ronaldo may be here after coming season (when he is in his last year of contract) but surely won't be now.
Bale is a dream. Although I would like and is possible too. but he seems to be madrid bound.
Fabregas is just a rumour. Arsenal is the club for him in england so I don't see him playing for any other english team.

A lot of talk about here of targets and next years squad. Well I'm going to try and post something objective without personal wants! Not done a long post for a while so here goes:

Goalkeepers: We have a wealth of talent in De Gea and Johnstone. Amos and Lindegaard may be departing I feel, could Johnstone be ready to step up already? It is hard to say, I do think however we should look at a replacement for Lindegaard and Amos. I don't think we need an expenditure on someone like Begovic, it really is a waste of money. Butland would be the perfect choice, but has anyone considered Alex McCarthy from Reading? A good, young, British keeper. Would be available for £3 million I would say. Amos unfortunately I think needs to leave for the good of his career.

So goalkeeper wise: IN-McCarthy, OUT-Lindegaard and Amos.

Defence: Full back wise we have Buttner, Fabio, Evra & Rafael as well as many who can play there. The questions are, are they good enough? Rafael almost definitely is, but the other 3 are questionable. It would not surprise me one bit to see Evra stay next year, with Fabio and Buttner as back up for both sides. But I would like to see Shaw come in, or Baines. If Baines comes in then Evra leaves, but if Shaw comes in Evra should stay. Given that this is Moyes, I would think that Baines will come in with Evra going to Monaco for a final swansong. As for centre backs, we have the perfect blend of youth and experience. Work will have to be done next year though when Ferdinand retires.

Defence: IN-Baines, OUT-Evra.

Midfield: The area that requires the most work without a doubt. This also brings up questions, does Fletcher come back? Does Anderson go? Does Nani go? Personally I think we will see Fletcher back in a United shirt as an experience presence for Cup games. Nani and Anderson though surely have had enough chances. The only way I see them staying is if we cannot find a buyer. If we cannot find a buyer then Di Maria and others may be less likely. I do expect us to find a buyer though. Now that those like Moutinho and Rodriguez have found new clubs, we can streamline our targets list. I fully expect Moyes to bring in 2 central players. One box to box and one playmaker. I can't look further than Fellaini or Strootman for box2box, whilst there are more options for playmakers. Modric is my pick, but Fabregas and Thiago are options it seems. I'm going to say that:

IN - Strootman, Modric, Di Maria. OUT - Anderson, Nani.

Forwards: Starting to think that Rooney might just stay. Lewandowski won't be coming in and Moyes probably wants to rejuvenate Rooney's career. If he succeeds then we can have no complaints. It is a risk but its a risk I expect us to take. Also do not think Hernandez is going anywhere. No changes here.

Team wise, we will be operating a 4-3-3 or 4-4-1-1, this is what Moyes has favoured. He will change though given that he has a better calibre of players and no target man. He utilised the likes of Osman and Arteta well, so Kagawa and someone like Modric will be useful to him. Proposed team:

4-2-3-1:
De Gea, Rafael, Ferdinand, Vidic, Baines, Carrick, Modric, Di Maria, Rooney, Kagawa, RVP.

That for me is a title winning team that will stand up to the likes of Cavani etc who will no doubt be venturing towards Stamford Bridge or Eastlands. {Ed004's Note - I would be happy with that as long as Rooney gets into shape and also I think Smalling or Evans will play beside Vidic next season as Moyes likes to have pace in his defence so they can hold a high line}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would say that that is the ideal team. And yes I would like Smalling to kick on and make a spot his own. If Rooney gets into shape then that will be one hell of a team in my opinion. Thiago may be marginally more likely than Modric, but who knows? A double deal for Di Maria and Modric would be perfect given that they are trying to raise funds. Not sure if I would use Hernandez in a deal though. If RVP gets injured then he will be our main goalscorer. {Ed004's Note - No we have to keep Hernandez now that Lewandowski doesn't seem to be an option}

Agree0 Disagree0

Cavani's off to Madrid mate. With Falcao to Monaco and Lewandowski off to Munich means our rivals aren't getting any big name strikers in either.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think you understand those teams are or should be considered our rivals. A worry of mine is Moyes thinks as he did before about cheap players and only of the premiership, he has to realise its a different game now.
Interestingly was it ballack at the weekend who said that none of munichs managers would be allowed to make big changes to structure or the way they do things there is a Munich way and that is it.

27 May 2013 14:10:34
Ed's - With Gotze already leaving and Lewandowski almost certainly leaving do you think there is a chance of a mass exodus at Dortmund because their pulling power in the market would not be good enough to replace their stars and there is not cheap gems everywhere. I would love to see any of Reus, Gudongan, Hummels, Subotic, Blasczcowski, Schmelzer or Bender. {Ed004's Note - I'm not sure i could see the likes of Reus and Gundogan staying another year}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ed004 - I think the same as well but I can not see Reus or Gudongan ending up here unfortunately. Even though those two would be perfect for us.

Why do we need a striker? We out scored all other Premier League teams last year, despite generally poor wing play and at best, an average midfield. Rooney leaving may change things but currently all our issues are across the middle. Let everyone else buy strikers, we need CMs and creativity

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Spot on! we have lacked in the midfield for years now espec in europe get that sorted and our defence and attack will be fine

MU1999

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed. But I think even if Rooney leaves we won't need to buy another striker. Imo we should play 4-2-3-1 next season, with two wingers an attacking midfielder and a striker up front. That means will have 3 strikes for 1 place, as I wouldn't play RVP in the hole if I were the manager.

I think we will only look at a striker if Rooney leaves, and i'm getting less sure that he will be leaving with every passing day. With Lewandowski looking Bayern bound, and Cavani and Falcao looking beyond us based on finances.

So we can either sign someone like Benteke or Bony who have potential but aren't in the top draw of world strikers.

Or keep Rooney.

Now i've been very much of the opinion that Rooney should go, but does that need to be this summer?

He is still a top player who has helped win us the league this season. The number of goals and assists he has got shows he still has ability. Yes he is declining, but will still be a top player next year.

Maybe the best idea is to keep him, at least for another year. He has two years left on his contract. If we sold him this summer we would get between 25-30m for him due to a lack of suitors. Yet if we were to sell him next summer with just one year left on his contract then we would still get at least 15m for him. So keeping him for another year means we keep a player who can be world class for the cost of his wages plus 10-15m in lost transfer fee.

Maybe the best option is to keep him for another year, but let him know that next season he is playing for his future at the club. With that motivation and Moyes new tougher fitness programme then we may see a rejuvinated Rooney. And if not then we will have can stilm sell him next summer when there maybe better options to replace him available, plus we can focus on it was we won't need focus on midfield as much as we do this summer. {Ed004's Note - But surely the money he would go for now could go to getting someone younger and faster and who you will be garunteed to work hard for the team such as Ozil etc}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I so it starts

Whatever we sold Rooney for we would have to spend on a replacement for him. If he goes then we would need another striker. Welbeck and Hernandez are good back up options to RvP, but one long term injury to RvP and we would be in trouble. And let's be honest he has in the past had injury problems. {Ed004's Note - I reckon have RVP, Welbeck, Hernandez and Kagawa are fine for the hole and striker position. Hernandez will always get you goals and I don't think signing someone like Benteke is really worth it as we want someone that can or is world class all of which look like they are joining other teams Lewandowski, Cavani, and Falcao}

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2013 14:46:20
Would you be confident of winning or challenging for trophies on all fronts if say we sold Rooney and didn't sign another striker. Then RvP got a season ending injury in November?

We out scored all of our opponants this season, but Rooney was responisble for 25 of those goals. Take him out and we will need to find 25 goals from somewhere. {Ed004's Note - Not overly confident but that's unlikely to happen I just think I wouldn't want to waste money on players I don't think will ever reach world class status tbh and might get unhappy being on the bench. If Lewandowski, Martinez etc signed they would get a lot of game time as RVP will be rested more and played deeper against weaker teams}

Agree0 Disagree0

Shappy his total cost for another season is 25 million pounds mate and seem to miss a key point that without him we get to move forward and not be in a constant dilemma of where to play him and having to play him at the cost of other players.

I still think he should go and believe he will, because you seem to mistaking the Wayne Rooney of 2010 to Wayne Rooney of 2013. I keep saying we are not losing a world class player if he goes but an average player today.

This assumption that he is playing poorly because he is unfit and only if he shaped up he would be back to his best is all conjecture. Did you ever factor in that he is actually declining and we might see a slower and clumsier Rooney next year and I hope no one thinks we can turn him into a midfielder because he would get slaughtered by average midfield players.

You don't think we can replace 12 pl goals by signing of two proper midfielders or 2 good winger as we got nothing from those positions this year.

Shahram

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2013 17:05:28
Trust me Shahram I know what Rooney has brought to the team this past season.

The thing with Rooney though is he is 27, players shouldn't be declining at that age. The only reason a player would decline at that age is a drop in physical capabilities such as Fletcher. Or a lack of motivation to do your best.

Certainly Rooney has lost some of his pace, and it is unlikely that he will get that back. But Rooney isn't Walcott. Rooney had much more to his game then pace, he was strong, he had a good touch, he was clinical infront of goal, he is a good passer of the ball and he had great vision.

Where he has lost it this season is a lack of fitness which has lead to him being tired and sloppy and a lack of concentration. I think both have come from a lack of motivation.

If and I know its a big if Moyes can get him fit and motivated, then he may not get his pace back, but his touch, concentration, his passing, his strength and his work rate should all return. If that was the case then he can still be a big part of our team.

Whether his presence in the squad is a good thing is a different matter alltogether. If you could have a 2010 Rooney back but with a little less pace would you take it? Would that player be worth a 25m gamble?

It would be a huge gamble keeping him, but it would be just as big a gamble selling him and not bringing in a world class striker to replace him.

The only world class striker who could be brought in to replace him is looking like Falcao. But Falcao would cost 50m at least and that's not including wages. Also there is no garantee that Falcao would fit in to our squad or the premier league ( although i'm sure he would).

So ones a 50m+ gamble the other is a 25m gamble. Which do you think is most likely.

Personally I would prefer to see the back of Rooney, but there is a very real and fair arguement that he could still have a future here.

Agree0 Disagree0

As I have said all along, I hope we do not sell Rooney. If we do, where do we find another player with his abilities?
If Moyes can get him in shape, then we'll have some player in the team.
Before we sell Rooney, we should be looking to sign nani, Anderson, young.
Nomidfield

Agree0 Disagree0

Shappy, Players like Falcao and Cavani are not 50 million gambles and you would not have to worry about them on the football pitch or all the sideshows off the pitch.

Let's go with your theory that it is a motivation or fitness issue, which I don't btw believe it is because for me this is not just this season but also last season.

Why would a player on 200k a week and one of the highest paid footballers in the world needs to be motivated to maintain his fitness to do what he is being paid for, especially after the way we lost the league last year.

If we go by this theory the boy has some serious character flaws and not worth keeping at all.

Here is something to consider; He has been playing a lot of football from a very young age and has had a number of injuries. Given his build and the fact that he will be 28 come next season have you ever thought that his best is behind him and he is starting to physically lose his legs and sharpness and as a striker that is the kiss of death.

Look at Torres, he was unbelievable 3 years ago and now looks like a ghost of a player and he is 29.

I honestly don't have a a vendetta against this boy but believe he is gone and will be worse next season and we might have another Berbatov on our hands with more bench time than game time and at a cost of 25 million and the obvious issues that comes with keeping him at the club.

What happens if moyes sees the same thing SAF saw and decides to play other players, are we going to have an official transfer request during the season and potentially a Tevez like issue on our hands and a media circus?

Shahram

Agree0 Disagree0

We can all speculate but the truth is the club will know exactly where his fitness is and if there is any issue, or issue with attitude, all will be taken in to account.
I would imagine the club are in a much better position than anyone on hear to make the call, so for me if the club offer a new contract or not, it will answer a few questions.
I would happily keep Rooney if he got back to the 30 plus goal standard of last year.
Personally I think Rooney still has a lot to offer and just think for various reasons he has had a poor season, I expect to see him in a United shirt next year but time will tell
jred

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2013 18:51:16
He may well be declining, and personally I don't think he'll ever be quite as good again. But that doesn't mean he can't be a good player still for us, he was been awful this year and still helped directly contribute to 25 goals.

His fitness has been a huge problem this year, Sir Alex himself has even made referance to it. If you could discribe him in one word this season I would use stale. He has seemed uninterested and lacking motivation at times.

How often this year have you seen him play a sloppy pass that has been intercepted then he didn't run after it? that's not because he can't chase the player down but because he can't be bothered, which is the same reason the pass was sloppy in the first place.

He has come from a very poor back ground and now has more money then he knows what to do with it. He has won everything there is worth winning in football and he is no longer sure of where his place is in the team or even what is his best position.

If anyone can motivate Rooney then it is the guy who gave him his debut. Moyes will also get all the players at least 10% fitter if not more. If Rooney is fitter and motivated then all that is left is to play him in his best position. as a striker.

Him and Van Persie should be awesome upfront, Rooneys power and Van Persies finess. Its a beauty and the beast combo.

If and like i've said before it is a big if he can get back his fitness and motivation as well and playing him in his best position then Rooney's form should return. If it doesn't then sell him next summer and bring in a world class talent to replace him.

But if we sold him this summer which world class striker would you bring in to replace him. As we can't place all our goal scoring burden on a 30yo RvP.

Agree0 Disagree0

Shappy, I completely get your view and realize the angst that goes with selling someone like him.

If the big games are not available, I would invest in someone like a Mirales or the guy playing at St Ettine. With Hernandez and Welbeck getting more starts I am not too concerned about scoring goals. We need better wingers and a couple of good cm and replacing Rooney's goal tally will not be an issue neither his assists as Kagawa should play a big part in our teams make up next year and expect goals and many assists from him.

Lads, just read this write up about why we should NOT sign Thiago

"Thiago is a very talented midfielder and has a bright future ahead of him at only 22 years of age. He wants to play first-team football so that he can make Spain's 2014 World Cup team - something that he isn't going to get at Barcelona - and is therefore potentially open to a move this summer.

However, despite all of that, it's the wrong move for United to make.

The biggest point has to be his style. Playing in Barcelona's possession-based system is going to be very different to playing in United's attacking system. That's not to say his skills wouldn't be appreciated, but they would be less effective than they have been in Spain.

Thiago would be forced into hitting more long balls and crosses, which he wasn't that adept at last season. He would also be forced into doing much more work defensively which he's good at in La Liga, but might not necessarily be as effective at in the Premier League's physical style of play.

Standing at just under 1. 72m and 70. 7kg, Thiago doesn't have the physical size that a central midfielder is going to need to have in the English game. "

What are your views? Do you reckon there are better alternatives that will be better suited to a) the physicality of the BPL and b) to play the deep lying playmaker role? I'd be interested to listen to what you lot have to say!

Thiago would be excellent in a three man midfield in the prem but would have to be paired with a fully defensive midfielder if he was to play in a two man midfield.

If we played a three man midfield with a DM and a box to box midfielder then Thiago would be great as the furthest forward of the midfield three. But other than that he could be a liability.

So if we are to move to play a three man midfield then he could be an excellent signing, if he is signing to play alongside Carrick in a midfield two then it would be a disaster.

Now that Lewandowski looks to have binned us off for Bayern what other striker is likely to be available? Realistically as well as Falcao and Cavani are over priced. There are only three world class strikers available this summer, Cavani Falcao and Lewandowski. Lewandowski will be joining Bayern now, he wants it, Bayern want it and Dortmund are pretty much powerless to stop it.

Cavani and Falcao will cost over 50m and I doubt we'll sign either of them.

There are a group of strikers in that bracket just below the world class who we could sign. Players such as Benteke, Bony, Lukaku ect who could become world class but will need abit of work.

So our options seem to be either sign a player such as Benteke or keep Rooney.

Its differcult choice, it could be the defining moment in Moyes tenure at United. let's wait and see.

I am disappointed with the Lewandowski to Bayern idea, report are suggesting now that the player wants the move and I am surprised. Aside from Thiago (who I have to say I don't really get all the hype surrounding) there doesn't seem to be a lot else relating to us yet. I know it's early but Barcelona, Bayern and even Monaco are all making moves relatively early.
The players I keep hearing mentioned but I am unsure as to how accurate the rumours are, are:
Fabregas,
Fellaini
Baines
Modric
Gundogen
Rooney (out)
Anderson (out)
Nani (out)
If anyone has any idea as to the strength of these rumours please reply.

Well the ed has said we have a chance of signing Di Maria and hopefully Strootman.

A lot of people are complaining about players like Di Maria, Modric and Sanchez, saying that Real, Bayern and Barca are signing the top talent while we get the rejects, but look at how other recent Real rejects have had more success that Real themselves, Robben, Sneijder and Van der Vaart to name a few. I would be very happy if we signed Sanchez, Modric and Di Maria. Yes I would prefer Bale, and of course I would love us to sign Ronaldo, and also I would prefer Gundogan, but I would be very happy with Sanchez, Di Maria, two top quality wingers who can score and create goals, and a centre mid who can do the same and control the tempo of a game. For this summer, I would be happy with Sanchez, Di Maria, Modric/Fabregas, Baines if Evra leaves, and Lewandowski. {Ed004's Note - I would be thrilled with that summer though I would say Lewandowski looks very unlikely now with his agents comments so maybe another midfielder instead. A summer of Baines, Bender, Modric/Fabregas/Alcantara, Di Maria and Sanchez would be perfect}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ed 004, how about a midfield 3 of Thiago, Carrick and Gundogan ;).

Deeps. {Ed004's Note - It would be very good but where does Kagawa go?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Nobody could complain if we were to sign Modric, before he went to Madrid everyone was absolutely desperate to sign him and were gutted when our offer was turned down and there's was accepted. Modric is the perfect fit, an instant world class player straight into the team, and he would spend many years here, I would have him over Thiago - but I would also like Strootman to come in. Options of Carrick, Cleverly, Strootman, Modric, Powell and Anderson/Fletcher would be good. Anderson would almost certainly leave though as he would be 5th or 6th choice.

Agree0 Disagree0

For me a midfield of Carrick, Kagawa, Gundogan/Modric/Fabregas would be perfect and would rival Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich once again. And yeah, shame about Lewy Ed, maybe we have a small chance and maybe that was to push his price up. Who knows with football agents these days. And by the way I meant Lewy if Rooney leaves, though both parts of that seem unlikely now. {Ed004's Note - Yeah I agree with what you say}

Agree0 Disagree0

Modric will be a great signing. If we can also sign cesc or gundogan, then we'll be in business.

"Robert will join Bayern this summer. There is no point in pretending that he will not move to Bayern. Robert wants to leave and that is what will happen, "

"It is a matter of time. It could be a done deal within a week or within two to three weeks. We are waiting for a signal from the club. We are working on this deal.

"Robert needs a new challenge. He needs other people around him, a new coach and new motivation. "
Lewandowski agent.
Is anyone really that surprised

I am not surprised he's joining a top team. Playing good football. Just won the champions league have recruited up and coming top talent in gotze.

Just hope he has a change of heart and he choses us.

I think BM triggering Goetze's release clause was a masterstroke for more than one reason. You have to feel sorry for the Dortmund fans if they lose their two top players to their only rival in the Bundesliga. I think as soon as Goetze left for BM it left a door wide open for Lewandowski who originally probably thought BM was almost an impossible move for him.

How plausible are the Alcantara rumours ed? Utter tosh or do they have some substance, in my opinion I believe, Alcantara, Fellaini, Baines and Di Maria will join, which I don't think is too shabby, would however replace Marouanne with Luka or Cesc, but beggars can't be chooses, and we aren't running the club, still excited for for the summer though, have a good bank holiday lads!, and you of course eds.

Macauley. {Ed004's Note - Cheers and I think there is some substance to the rumours and I really do not want Fellaini here the rest I would be very happy with but only if Rooney stays and gets into shape}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Maybe strootman, but can really see notes pushing for Fellaini, hope I'm wrong, Kevin would be perfect alongside Carrick in the big games and Alcantara in the Norwich, Southampton type matches etc. hopekng for a good summer and for
Moyes to kick on in pre season and the start of the league, imo good times lie ahead for united

now that it looks like lewy is going bayern, if rooney makes way, who is left for us to sign as a forward who is world class

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If that was to heppen. I hate to say it but it looks like rooney will end up staying for another year or two. I think we'll miss out on a top striker in lewy. I just hope he doesn't chose bayern over us. wouldn't blame him as bayern are a top team and they're only improving with the additions of gotze and possibly lewy.

Singh

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't get too disheartened Singh, Rooney is a good player and let's not forget what he's done for this club.
You seem to have a downer on him. If he goes to Chelsea, and we end up with a second rate striker, will you be happy?
Come on, playing rubbish as you intimate, he scored 26 goals for us last year. And also playing out of position half of the time, so just sit back and think, be careful what u wish for.
Top strikers are hard to find, if rvp gets injured and Rooney is not there, then I think even you will agree, that we will struggle.

MUFC supporters when you read down the page all these people say we getting him or a chance of this player

lets stick to reality and that we won't buy big because the glazers now have all the power because fergie has gone and so has gill!

If anything we will buy prospects or players with potential. there will be no world class signing this summer!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes but despite that in all honesty I think they understand that the top players are also more marketable and gain more interest in the club. Making them more money which is what they want.

Just a bit of banter, out of all the players we are linked with, realistically what chance do you think of getting them? I have put my %age on the chances we will get them.
Fellaini 95%
Baines 10%
Shaw 25%
Modric 40%
Strootman 70%
Bale 5%
Ronaldo 20%
Lewindawski 30%
Gundogan 5%
Cesc 40%
Thiago 30%

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would put a much higher chance on Thiago and lower Fellaini to about 65%. Everything else seems fine to me.

Nicolas_United

Agree0 Disagree0

I would say me will sign either Modric or Fabregas so I would have them both at 50%. Also not a fan of Strootman so I would hope we don't sign him, and I only wish we had more chance of signing Ronaldo. Also about the chance of Di Maria, Sanchez. Possibly 30% each.

Hope moyes get us to play the quick 1 touch 2 touch passing near the opponents box which was evident when cleverly and ando were in the team in the early 2011/2012 season and the counter attacking play we had againt chelsea away and city away last season. In terms of possession football, I was impresses when we dominated spurs at home last season though we lost. my hope is moyes is flexible enough with our brand of football but has a main specific philosophy which he drills to the team. Any thought?

I do not personally think united are light years away from being bracketed as europes elite ( barca, bayern, real). we were quater finalist this year and in 2010, finalist in in 2011 ( albeit with a kind draw)although we did abysmal last year. I think we sould be regarded roughly as a top 10 european team.
Yes, purchases in key positions are needed to bridge the gap. But in terms of squad strenght and age median, I think sir alex has left the team in good shape. smalling, jones, rafael, welbeck, de gea, evans, cleverly, hernandez are in their early 20s but have gained considerable champions league experience. These players will form the platform for the team for the forseeable future as squad players or regular first team to support the 2-3 key signings we hope moyes makes. with experienced players like vida, carrick, robin and rio we will be fine and consistent in europe if the midfield conundram is adressed.
Mancunian dream

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes we are light years away, if you watched CL final, you would have realized that both teams are playing a different brand of football. Top class reinforcements in their squad. Also, city, Chelsea, PSG, Real, barca, juventus, will all be much stronger next year.
Non of the above have got cleverley, Anderson, giggs playing in their midfield! So if we are to compete, Moyes better start dipping into the transfer kitty for TOP class players, not some potentially good players.
We need two midfielders, left back, center back, winger and attacker. So as you can see, we are a million miles away.

No name,

On what planet do we need to buy a centre back?

Lots of love Tarquin

Agree0 Disagree0

No name, in referance to your reply and by your reckonening we have to purchase 6 players. when was the last time we purchased that many players? 2003/2004? With kleberson, bellion, howard, ronaldo, djemba djemba and saha? wouldn't purchasing that many players destabilise a squad if all is needed are few tweaks?and if these 6 players were all first team players and not squad players or youngsters then we have to do an upheavel to the regular first teamers.
The germans were playing a high tempo presurering game and they have individuals with high technical skill and are tactically highly disciplined. Very impressive but the german national team have shown us this brand of football.
If united are million years away from challenging in europe, why would then reasonably top players consider joining us when bayern, barca, city, chelsea, juve, milan, psg would in all likelihood be vying for their signature?

Rene has been offered the chance to stay at United but not as first team coach (just as a coach)
I've heard he will be leaving too, real shame as he's one of the best around.

No news on an assistant, but wouldn't be surprised to see Steve Round join Alan Irvine, Jimmy Lumsden & Chris Woods at United.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That was my biggest fear when Moyes became our manager! I hope that if these people do get appointed that they are up to the job really fear that they don't have much experience of preparing a side for games every 3-4 days and competing on 4 fronts every season, tactically also is a worry of mine!
Ca any1 te'll me what credentials these meh have except for workingg with Moyes since his Preston days?I was happy when Moyes was appointed but hoped that Rene would b kept on at least!
LP

Agree0 Disagree0

I wasn't happy with Moyes appointment. And already he has made two mistakes.
Sacking Steel whom has worked wonders with ddg. And now allowing Rene to go.
A lot of the people were saying that Moyes is a good appointment cited that there will be a smooth transition on what saf had built.
Well, I think getting rid of steel and Rene is ridiculous.
On the other hand, sacking phelan is the best decision he'll make this year!

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2013 10:50:39
No one sacked Eric Steel, he is retiring in the same way that Sir Alex is. It was known he was likely to retire this year and almost certain to happen once Sir Alex announced his retirement.

I'm a little disapointed about Rene though, he is a top class coach who has helped change and modernise the way the club trains our players. While working with the youth system he brought in new training methods to improve our young players ability to keep hold of the ball and their one/two touch passing. Imo it would be a huge mistake to let him go. RvP has discribed him as the best coach he's ever worked with.

I agree that a new assistant manager was needed, Moyes needs a right hand man at the club. Someone he knows will always be on his side, someone he doesn't have to win over.

In an ideal world I would have liked to see Chris Woods come in to replace the retiring Eric Steel, Rene stay as first team coach, and Phil Neville come in as Moyes assistant. Phil knows Moyes well and he knows the club well. With Rene still their as first team coach he knows how to prepare the team to play twice a week and his tactical knowledge would help in europe. And Moyes would still have two close friends in Neville and Woods within the coaching staff.

He didn't sack Steele he was always leaving this summer whoever was manager. Phelan was always going whenever Fergie went. And nothing is official on Rene yet.
