Good result and easy win for us. We have had a few games this year where we got the needed result but have sputtered when needing a sustained run.

We really need to put 2 more wins on the board before the Arsenal game and confidence is funny thing in football. So glad to see RVP and Rooney back and they will only get better.

Good to also see Adnan rested today as no point in pushing a young boy when you don't need to.

Good performance. Mata looked good-brought creativity, linked play and tracked back well. Also great to see Rooney and Van Persie back.
In Moyes we trust.

Really annoying me the way everyone has slated Moyes's team selection tonight

The 2 Cm's were fine and you have to remember that Fletcher is still returning from injury and Fellaini may still be undercooked so what's the point in risking either against bottom of the league? And well, Gigg's or Cleverley? Who do we think adds more in an attacking sense considering Jones will be the rock in the midfield?

Despite being awful since we bought him under SAF, Young's actually knuckled down under Moyes and seems to be playing okay. Would still like to see him sold unless he carries on like he is and we can use him as an English squad player. I know we'd all love to see Januzaj start every game but let's face the fact that he's only 18! The worst thing would be seeing him overplayed and get injured which sets his career back a few years ala Ramsey

Squad rotation is important guys and SAF was very good at it and did very similar things when he knew we would win. So just try and accept that DM is trying to do his best with what he's got, he's not trying to ruin the club!

On another note, great to see RVP back and on the scoresheet. Mata had a solid start and will only improve the more time he spends with the other players

Clean sheet and a couple of goals is what we wanted at the start so now let's get top 4 and smash everyone next season

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed004's Note - I thought the game was extremely boring Tbf. We lacked pace and any sort of conviction I thought the players would have been fired up for this game. Maybe it's just me, but why does our defence sit so deep? We basically set up camp in our penalty area and send personal invites to each of the opposition players to attack. There is no link between the centre backs and centre mids at times jones was the deepest player on the pitch. I don't get how this was not the ideal chance to try pushing the centre backs up the pitch. Both are quick and once we scored we should have went for the kill. If we end the half 2-3 up or are 2-3 up after 20 mins game is over...}

I agree Ed, we need to start being more positive from the outet. I know we are only 6 point off Liverpool in 4th, but so far goal difference seems to have been overlooked on here. As it stands Liverpool are +18 on us. Everton and Spurs are better off points wise too, but Liverpool are the ones who pose the greatest challenge to catch.
3 points are the priority, but we need to be more positive in games like tonight and start banging a few in. Hopefully with RVP and Rooney back, plus Mata, we will start scoring a few. There could well be four teams challenging for 4th come May, and good might well be the deciding factor.

Agree0 Disagree0

"and good might well be the deciding factor."
Dont know what happened there. Should be "and good might well be the deciding factor."

Agree0 Disagree0

Not long back from the game and positives 3 points mata plays and rvp and rooney back.but what a slow boring game that was and at 1-0 cardiff ripped us apart a couple of times.giggs needs to hang his boots up he added nothing tonight other than giving possesion away.anyway onwards and upwards rant over

Agree0 Disagree0

F'#k sake, "good" should be goal difference.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree it wasn't a fantastic performance Ed but 3 points is 3 points

The Cb pairing of Evans and Smalling is younger than most that we've fielded so I'm not sure why they aren't pressing higher. Confidence? Or is it Moyes and the way he wants them to play? I can't say I watched Everton much so what his system was like there? They always seemed sturdy in defence but lacking attacking power. The only difference I can see is that we had no natural leader at the back i.e. Vidic or Ferdinand for the past few years. I think Jones would have been a better option at the back over Smalling (Who is a squad player IMO), had it not been the quality of our midfield

Stats wise we dominated everything but possession where we narrowly lost out which is probably down to our deep defence and weakened midfield

One thing for sure is that papering over the cracks with a big signing like Mata won't do us any good in the long term. Need a fresh face in midfield this window like Vidal or Kroos who would both guarantee us 4th for this season

Betty, I think the poor(ish) goal difference can be put down largely to RVP injury tbh. Remember last season where we kept going a goal down then coming back to win it purely by the sheer amount of goals we scored. We haven't had the firepower this season with an out and out world class Centre forward whose link up play and goals accounted for both points and goal difference being higher

Pray he stays fit and we should really be getting top 4

Agree0 Disagree0

Bennett, of course we have missed RVP and Rooney's goals. But the original point was that our back four sits too deep, and that just invites the opposition to attack. Like ed said, they need to push up more and link up with the midfield better. 3 points is always the priority, but we have lost that killer instinct. We seem to be content with defending a 1 or 2 goal lead instead of killing teams off. No disrespect to Cardiff, but in games like that we could, and probably should, be more adventurous and look to score more. I'm not suggesting wd should win every game 6-0, but when we have the opportunity to score a fee we need to take it. Obviously RVP and Rooney will make a difference, but they can't do it on their own if the rest of the team is sitting too deep and defensive. 2 years ago goal difference cost us the title. This year it could well cost us that last CL spot.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with ed. Our defence sits too deep and in turn, our midfield goes back too, leaving a void with the strikers. That's why we see the opposition running at us as they can come at us unhindered till they reach the danger area, then we start panicking.
It is up to moyes to tell them to push up, and the players have to have the confidence to do it. We did that in a couple of matches this year, and looked good, but then we revert to defending deep.

Good result today! Now Stoke and then Fulham, games that we must win to climb into the table.

Nice to see Mata with a Red shirt.

Smalling MOTM for me.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thought Evans played well. He's had a bit of stick lately.

Agree0 Disagree0

I always think Evans looks like a newly born calf trying to stand up and walk, when he has the ball at his feet. Funny to watch but not great for a professional footballer.

Agree0 Disagree0

Evans is a good centre half but lacks presence and looks too nice. He need to shave his head, get a few scars on his face or broken nose and look meaner.

Agree0 Disagree0

He nearly scored a 20 yard curler!

Agree0 Disagree0

Then he would just be nice, but ugly :)

Agree0 Disagree0

When we buy a midfielder, we need to put Jones and Smalling in defence together. It's time for them to start building a partnership. Jones and Smalling would be solid with decent fullbacks next to them. Rafael was worst than Evra yesterday, caught out of position, kept lunging in.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jan 2014 21:04:40
Hats off to Ashley Young; w@nk as he may be, he scores some screamers.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Jan 2014 20:58:01
Ya know Evra is bad when No one is giving him the run around :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Jan 2014 20:40:19
Mata or not.
Only 1 thing to say. game looks so dead with pace. Mata is bringing much needed threat but playets like giggs and smallings slowing it down terribly.
Not generating much panic.
Batter from game related to mata

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree, our passing through the defense midfield is too slow. However, I thought Smalling was colossal for United tonight, totally dominated his area.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why you bashing Smalling, the lad had a very controlled game. Look at the scoreline we didn't concede and look who is playing at centre half, his natural position.

Please, Mata played well, but don't disregard the other players around him. Look at what RVP gave us, something Welbeck and Chicarito wouldn't have.

aaallj5

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Mata had a good game. He made some good runs in the 1st half, but no Juan in the midfield seemed to have the ability to spot the passes. I personally cannot wait until saturday. I think we will see a much more exciting performance with RVP, Rooney, Mata and maybe Januzaj. If we can get 1 more midfielder in before the end of the window we will be a much stronger team and will be easily capable of 4th place. We will be in a strong position going into the summer. I trust moyes to sort it all out and get a few quality signings in and we will be back at the top.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jan 2014 20:29:45
All this talk of a new united and we still start Valencia and young. Ecstatic at signing of mata though and hats of to moyes and Woodward for tht but could have shown a new united if kagawa and Januzaj lined up alongside mata as a pose to these two inconsistent wingers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Correct. So why do we stick with 442? And two mediocre wingers at that?

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah, Young, what a shocking player.

Agree0 Disagree0

You mean the two best players on the pitch?

Agree0 Disagree0

All in good time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Adnan too young to start every game. Moyes clearly does not rate Kagawa and to be fair he has failed to impress (even if mostly out of position). I'm sure we'll see Rooney, RvP, Mata and Januzaj all at the same time soon which is very exciting IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

That is exactly what I was looking forward to. Kagawa, Jan and Juan linking up with Rvp in front for one half and Rooney in front for the other.
The only positive could be that moyes may change the formation once we have better cm's in the team

Agree0 Disagree0

If that's 442 I'm blind. We have Rooney and RVP just back from injury, neither were going to play 90 mins. Januzaj needed a rest, though I thought he'd get 30 mins. On a side note Jones covered every blade of grass made some good intercepts and tackles and missed 1 pass.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jan 2014 19:56:27
Anyone notice Valencia coming a lot more in the centre today?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeah but he needs to do it sparingly. If he keeps coming in the centre, we won't have any penetration down the right. I'd prefer if he tried pulling off the left back a bit more to try and tire him out, the he might be able to slip inside toward the end of the match.

Agree0 Disagree0

Danny

Congratulations on the record for the most double entendres in a post. Please tell me you meant it

I can't fathom playing Giggs instead of Fletcher, 4231 as many here hoped. hope Janu and Rooney come on at some point.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I was looking forward to seeing Mata and Rooney play together but imagine Mata will come off for Rooney around the sixty minute mark.

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe Rooney will come on for RVP and Janu for Young at 60 mins.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't see Mata or RVP lasting the full 90 minutes. Januzaj looked knackered at the end of the Sunderland game so expect a straight double swap with Rooney on for RVP and Januzaj on for Mata. Hopefully the game will be won by the second half.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think both RVP and mata will come off after 60 minutes as long as the score stays the same or better.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jan 2014 19:04:41
So once more Kagawa sits it out, I guess the game is totally up for him at OT .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ah but we have young and Giggs on!

Agree0 Disagree0

Young has been very good.

Agree0 Disagree0

Young seems to be one of the ones stepping up to the mark, though.

Agree0 Disagree0

The previous post was before he had scored :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Shahram, Stevie

Stop it, repeat after me, Young is rubbish

Agree0 Disagree0

He is a lot of the time :) But I also think he's been a bit unlucky with injuries, and his confidence must be shot, knowing how fans rate him.

If he knuckles down under Moyes and gets some consistency in his game, I think he can still do a job as a squad player. But that's a big 'if'.

He's certainly not the joke that he's often portrayed to be.

Agree0 Disagree0

Manchester United: De Gea; Rafael, Smalling, Evans, Evra; Valencia, Jones, Giggs, Young; Mata, van Persie.

Subs: Lindegaard, Cleverley, Fletcher, Januzaj, Kagawa, Hernandez, Rooney

Interesting line up to say the least. Cleverly seems to have definitely hit the doghouse and fellaini still not in.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed004's Note - Hope we play a high line tonight and full backs offer a lot of width to the attack. Was hoping to see two of Rooney Kagawa januzaj in the attack and fletcher in midfield alongside Jones}

ED004

Looks like a 4231 on paper would have liked to see Janusaj on instead of young but maybe the rest all be good for him.

Guys don't start with the 442 LOL.

It is damning that a 40 year old and a CB are preferred choices to Cleverly.

I expect us to be signing more players before the window closes as it brings back the reality of how poor our midfield is when you see the choices available currently.

Anyway, I have bet us every which way possible lol a win will be a good start.

Agree0 Disagree0

Great minds ed004 great minds.

Agree0 Disagree0

What a joke two players in the centre mid and not one of them is playing in there proper position! wake up Moyes Giggsy can't run and jones can't pass completely useless in those position! God sake play Jones at CB otherwise he will go backwards and let Giggsy concentrate on coaching! I know what we will do we will leave a 27m player out let another cm go on loan! Great to sign Mata but we needed cm more so than am! I suppose there is still time, but yet again Moyes has changed the team spine consistency in his selections.

Agree0 Disagree0

It is 442! Two wingers and two midfielders one of them is 40 years old and the other is a CB but is playing in midfield.
Still, it is Cardiff, so maybe moyes thinks we can just roll them over, let's hope it doesn't backfire.

Agree0 Disagree0

Couldn't agree more tucker, he seems to change the team every time. I don't mind allowing one or two to rest, but the team and shape is being changed dramatically every match.

Agree0 Disagree0

Moyes may be getting some things wrong but he has Cleverley sussed. Fellaini will get a chance at some point, wouldn't surprise me to see Cleverley leave.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nomid

If it is 442 where is mata playing then?

Agree0 Disagree0

Yup was just going too ask who are the 2?

Agree0 Disagree0

Shahram, stop asking sensible questions.

The Juan Mata deal may have an impact not yet thought about. In recent weeks it appeared the team were not giving 100%, quite possibly some were affected after being told at least 5 were not good enough and needed to be replaced. There may be some who thought the manager might go before them, they didn't like what Moyes said or wanted them to do and possibly took their bat and ball home. Well the purchase of Mata and the promises (which they will likely feel are true) of more top purchases may have triggered a realisation that they have to perform to stay and like it or not the manager has been backed and will have more time. However for those who think they are not required it could mean they won't try but at least we will find out, likely tonight or over the next few games. I expect a bounce, a Mata effect, starting tonight and Moyes needs to get them in a formation that works.

I was also interested in one of Moyes quotes on the Mata signing, "This is the first, and there will be many more to come in time. I want the quality of Juan to be the start of it, "

So Fellaini wasn't the first then? Where does that leave him!

I put money on us tonight and haven't felt able to do that for a while, now they must deliver and get on a run whilst I hope we get something in Central Midfield before 11pm on Friday.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That was my concern.

Either the players step up as a result of the signing and the promise of more to come, or they think, 'what's the point, I'll probably not be here next season anyway'.

I'd like to think, as professional footballers, it would be the former, but you never know.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed guys, it could work either way. Let's hope it will give the slackers a kick up the ass. Fergie didn't differently as he never crtisized our players in public and I must admit, I preferred his way.
Let's hope moyes knows what he's doing otherwise it could have a detrimental effect on moral.

Agree0 Disagree0

Some will step up, some won't. It looks like DM is prepared to build what he wants and is being backed to do so. I'm looking forward to the fun

ED do you think Kroos will sign a new contract?

At the moment it looks like we are the only club in for him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The issue is one of money. I have no idea where you arrive at teh second point from.}

IF he becomes available - there will be a fair few clubs in for him.

Agree0 Disagree0

ED I only wrote the second point because I haven't really read rumours of any other club being linked with him.

Big welcome back to OT for OGS tonight.

I was in the Nou Camp that night, having used most of my wedding money to get over there, and I will never forget the sheer elation that ran through the stadium, thanks to that man.

He is single-handedly responsible for giving me the best night of my football-supporting life.

Mind you, the wife didn't exactly share my joy when she found out.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Same here, I've never had a more mental reaction to a football game since!

He'll get a wicked reception but hopefully will be going home on the receiving end of a tumping.

Agree0 Disagree0

I bet you call your wife Siobhan :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes I was there behind the goal where Ole scored, incredible scenes, incredible feeling. I would like to say I remembered him running on his knees beside the goal but I don't because I was going nuts at the time. Welcome back Ole, enjoy the reception and then lose gracefully!

Agree0 Disagree0

A true legend. Hope he gets the reception he deserves.

Agree0 Disagree0

He will get a fantastic reception and deservedly so. What a great player for us, and he always seems like a decent bloke, down to earth and not up his own a**e.
Great memories.
Hope he loses tonight though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ditto, Red Man :) Just remember running up and down the aisles, hugging random Utd fans - we were in the supposedly neutral section, as we only got our tickets off two Barca fans on the way to the stadium, but there were a fair few of us dotted around.

I remember a lot of cool, Euro-types in suits, tutting at us and telling us off for not sitting down. As if!

The whole trip (think Planes, Trains and Automobiles) made for a great wedding story, and the wife is actually quite impressed that I always remember the year we got married :)

Nomidfield, she's not Irish!

For those interested, Graham hunter has done an excellent piece for paddy power on Mata and United (google it). What interests me is the link he has made with United and the Spanish U21 side from a few years ago. He points out how we have De Gea and Mata and we have also been interested in Herrera and Thiago. He also hints toward interest in Martinez, plus we all know every club seems to want a piece of Koke including us.

I'm not saying we are going to get all or even any of those names mentioned, but I think it's worth noting how great it would be to have young talented players who already have successful chemistry playing together in our side. I would love to see any of the three mentioned (discounting Thiago as that ship has sailed) coming into our squad. Any thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would be very happy with a young Spanish core of internationals they are the nation producing the best players and they do seem to thrive in the prem

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I said before the Chelsea game that the Chelsea game wasn't a must win, the must win games are the three games afterwards. If we can win the next three games we will be in good shape.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with this and said as much the other day. If we can somehow manage 9 points - that, on top of the Mata signing could easily provide the lift needed to see us mount a very serious challenge for 4th spot.

Agree0 Disagree0

Stoke is a tricky game.

Agree0 Disagree0

Paulo, they are all going to be tricky. Cardiff and Fulham have Ole and Rene wanting to prove a point. Hughes at Stoke too. All ex-MU.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes it is Paulo, however, we find ourselves in a situation where those types of games will need to be won in order to achieve top 4. Not much room for slip ups now, the next few weeks will be crucial IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

I remember posting in December our next 6 games were very winnable and we lost the first 2 lol. hope you have better luck.

Reliable sources have suggested that any further January acquisitions will not take place as they are building a squad around Rooney subject to his contract being accepted.

Instead, acquisitions will be in place for the beginning of the summer when 3 new major sponsorship's will fund the capital replacement.

There will be lots of skepticism on the board and from the papers but Manchester United's transfer window is officially shut.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Seems a very unlikely rumour to me. Rooney is unlikely to be with us long time so building a team around him makes no sense.

just a thought with cabaye going to psg and them havin a few decent dm/cm players already why not bid 4 mantudi(spelling)? great at breakin other teams attacks up can pass and only 6 months left on his contract so won't have 2 break the bank? just a thought

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - If he leaves he will most likely be moving to MCFC.}

Yikes that is terrible news. hope he stays at PSG:)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

JD's are on Syd

Agree0 Disagree0

It could Syd when you remember that L'pool once finished a season winning 13 and drawing 1 of their last 14 games. Also, weren't we once 12 points behind Keegan's Newcastle? In theory, therefore, it can be done! Why settle for 4th
You should be on Meusli with real fruit!!!

Unfortunately Arturo Vidal has stated in an interview after the gran gala del calcio aic 2013, that he will DEFINITELY not be leaving juventus in this window or the summer.
So that dream is officially crushed, on the bright side he would have cost £40m so at least we will save some money, hoping for Kroos or koke now.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Norts,

'Officially crushed' because he said in an interview that he was staying at the club that he is signed to? Come on you are more sensible than that surely.

Can anyone remind me of Ronaldo's comments before he left United?

How many times have we heard players say comments like that and then leave 2 days later. He will have been asked the question, how do you expect him to answer it?

Agree0 Disagree0

I also seem to remember Mourinho saying that about Mata last week. Three days later he was having a medical at United.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes but some people say what they mean and mean what they say very disappointed here.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jan 2014 09:45:47
Personal feelings towards him aside, what does everyone think will happen with regards to Rooney & the new contract. Will he sign it? If he signs it is it merely for us to demand a better price in the summer?

I reckon he'll sign & finish his career with us.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think he will sign it, but he will almost certainly not end his career at MU. Rooney will keep playing until he can no longer earn money from it. I see him playing in the far east, perhaps the MLS.

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought he would leave but if offered a decent pay rise and with the calibre of players we may have coming in in the summer, he might stay. Personally, i'd sell and go for a striker like Mandzukic as replacement, then get a quality CB, LB, 2 quality CM's and a wide player. I'd, personally, love us to play a 4321 with 2 attacking FB's and say Fellaini Kroos and Vidal in the middle with Januzaj/Reus and Mata behind RVP/Mandzukic up top. Many will disagree though :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh no , not again? lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Side note: when Rooney retires can you imagine him looking like Maradona, small and fat, because he loves that lifestyle.

Agree0 Disagree0

As long as he stays for at least another 3-4 seasons. By that time he'll be 31-32 years old and on the decline. Then he go where he pleases as far as i'm converned.

Agree0 Disagree0

If Rooney stays professional and keeps fit, he will be a very useful player for a few more years. Give him a three and a half year extension and revisit the idea of selling in 2-3 years time. As long as he's fit and playing well, why sell? We should be building now, you keep your best players when you rebuild.

Just got back from the states. A good friend of mine who sits on a board with me has just joined Nike at a very senior level. Tells me the United deal will be announced shortly. Would not provide any details for obvious reasons.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It will be a monster deal. The Chevrolet deal set a new benchmark for sponsorship deals and the Nike deal will be much bigger. Did he say when the deal will be announced?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The Nike deal is of a similar value to the Adidas deal that Chelsea has. I was at Old Trafford a few weeks ago with the extant sponsor (who will remain as a sponsor of Carrington and the training kit) and they are of the opinion that the value in the sponsorship they have got is about four times investment. I very much doubt it. They will keep their 90 tickets per game - 45 hospitality and 45 not.}

You watch the shares rise when the Nike deal is announced and Rooney signs a new deal. Then if MU get 4th spot in May and we strengthen more in the summer, they will continue to rise. I think if everything goes to plan we may see the Glazers float some shares around September/October time. A lot of "what ifs" though, we will see.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not even a hint of if it will be a mega deal or not?

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed002, does he mean four times the current £25.6m that MU are currently getting Ed? So he thinks it will be around £100m a year? What makes you doubt it can I ask? Thanks.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Yes, that is what they mean. It is a beancounter's figure based on teh subjectivity of the advertising they would need to buy to get the same level of exposure. Entirely unsubstantiated.}

There were a few of us on the dinner table and people, who are with other businesses that might be construed as competition and I really did not want to look too nosy:) They would find my high degree of engagement with the club and the site very puzzling :)

Most of the conversation was about moving to Portland from Miami Fla, which is a real step down LOL

Quite sizable I will say by the vibes I got

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed002, I do not think it will be anywhere near £100m personally, but I would be amazed if it was just £30m a year. Our current deal that was negotiated over a decade ago was £23.5m (approx), it went up to £25.6m (approx) a couple years ago. I think it will rise more than just £4m-£5m more a year. I thought it would be doubled at least.

Will you let us know more when you do find out the exact figures? Thanks.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You missed the point Syd.}

Couldn't the £300m or so be over five years Ed? As opposed to Chelsea's that is over ten years? I would have thought MU would be significantly higher than Arsenal's Puma deal and Chelsea's Adidas deal.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You would be surprised.}

Surely the deal will be quite a bit more than those given to Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Why would that be. There is something you are not aware of about teh deal with Adidas. There is really no need to go into these finances as people are already becoming confused.}

Heard it was £77m per year from Nike sponsorship.

Agree0 Disagree0

It is basically what marketing people present to businesses in terms of exposure and what that might cost if they were to buy it.

I understand where Ed002 is coming from because quite a few of the metrics they use can be questionable in terms of their valuations.

Agree0 Disagree0

Surely our shirt sales etc, worldwide, are more than said clubs? What are we not aware of in the Chelsea deal ed? Don't go into figures because, as you say, it gets confusing.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is not simply about shirt sales for the high profile clubs. There is zero point in me explaining what will be happening with Adidas and Chelsea.}

Ed002, what are we unaware of regarding the Adidas deal? What have I missed? Can you say?

Reuters say MU earned £38m from Nike last year. The £25m plus £13m profits from merchandise sales.

Apparently the deal is £300m over five years at £60m a year. MU will also earn up to an extra £15m a year in sales.

I guess we will find out soon enough, but many will be surprised if it's just £30m a year.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Who suggested it was £30M a year?}

Sorry Ed, I must have misread something. When you say similar to the Chelsea Adidas deal, what do you mean exactly? Is it more of a partnership?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Yes Syd.}

Ed, I did think that's what you meant, just having another dizzy moment ;)

A tip for anybody dealing with Ed002: It is a robot. It deals with fact and the tangible. It can only analyse. It cannot speculate, but may indulge in calculation if you tinkle its servers.

Hey Ed 002

A year or so ago I asked what I am Kloot means and you said ask me again in the future and you may spill the beans.

So what does I Am Kloot stand for/anagram for?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I will reveal all in April - the third week.}

It could be an anagram for 'took mail' and he's just a post man with a guilty conscience lol

dags

Agree0 Disagree0

Or an anagram for, 'I am a tool'. Oh, wait, that's not right.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's got a whiff of seagulls and trawlers, if you ask me.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its a band/solo artist from Manchester who is a united fan isn't it?

Agree0 Disagree0

I must say, you lot are kloot-less

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed, Does it have anything to do with seagulls and trawlers?

Agree0 Disagree0

What I generally find when kloot disappears is that when this question is asked he usually magically reappears. So expect to see a kloot post in the not so distant future.

Marky mark is probably kloot or a friend making sure we haven't forgotten about him before his reappearance.

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe its just the band name same as his previous name was music related, wonder if he's dead

Agree0 Disagree0

Strange comment to make Pardoe. I personally hope he comes back. The site is fun when KLOOTs posting to be honest.

Deeps.

Agree0 Disagree0

Deeps, to be fair to Pardoe, Rainfish has been a regular poster for over four years and he just disappeared, it's been months now. Any of us could die and we would never know.

Nothing like putting a downer on things. Damn, I was in such a good mood too ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Flip sake, Pardoe.

I know he's a pain in the hoop, though an entertaining one at that, but talk about thinking the worst!

Ed02; can you explain what the current situation is with Rooney please?

Lot of talk about this huge contract on the table with the club being hopeful he'll sign, but talks aren't that far into it yet.

Can you see him signing it or do you think he could still leave?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - He is being offered a new deal. I am not sure if you have a specific question.}

27 Jan 2014 20:57:54
Ed 002 you said that it's possible for Garay to arrive so why aren't we doing anything about it? If it is possible Moyes should jump at the chance to buy him!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I can't answer why.}

27 Jan 2014 18:37:42
Ed002. you had said on the subject of Konoplyanka sometime before Christmas, ''right now don't discount an offer for Konoplyanka if others move for him''. Is this still the case and may Liverpool now move for him considering they've missed out on Salah?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Ask on the Liverpool page.}

Ok i'll rephrase it. Would Manchester United retain an interest in this window if other teams were to make offers for the player?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Yes, I think they would.}

: I can confirm that we have a verbal agreement in place to sign Toni Kroos in the Summer. you should hear soon that the player has rejected chance to extend with Bayern Munich.

In light of this and the fact that I have been made certain we will buy two class midfielders, Which midfield combination would you prefer and why? (order of likelihood)

Option A: Kroos-Vidal

Option B: Kroos-Gundogan

Option C: Kroos-Pogba

Option D: Kroos- Koke

Option E: Kroos-Carvalho

I have got to say my personal vote rests with option B and C.

A for me. Vidal and Gundogan would also make a pretty magnificent midfield partnership

Agree0 Disagree0

I think you seem to be confused as to where Toni Kroos plays for Munich. Although he has the pressence to play as a central midfielder he is an old school number 10. He loves that space between the midfield and defence and he is devastating there.

Bayern, at the moment have probably the richest array of talent in midfielders at any club in the world, yet they do not have a great striker, and so they tend to play with 5 defenders and 5 midfielders. Kroos' talent and athleticism means he gets pushed further back than the likes of Gotze Thiago and Muller and so appears to play as a CM but is a deep lying no 10 instead.

If we were to sign Kroos I could see him taking over the role occupied by Shinji at the moment. A great [player but one who spends more on the bench than the pitch due to the current personel/system we are trying to use.

El Paso, Kroos has played further forward earlier in his career but that was more for development purposes.

Like when Rooney used to play on the left wing, that doesn't mean that Rooney is a left winger.

At Bayern they always saw Kroos as the successor to Schweinstieger, but when he was trying to break into the team they played him further forward so he could develop his game and get game time which would have been very limited if he was only playing when Schweinstieger wasn't.

Kroos can play further forward but his long term future will be in the heart of midfield. Much like Scholes.

And with Bayern having Thiago then Kroos could be available if the right offer was to come in, especially if he isn't planning on signing a new contract.
