Great performance by Milan, though barca have not turned up in their usual style. Still think it will be a Barca win when they meet in the return leg. Has anyone read the report on Del Piero on the "Manchester united blog" link that can be founf on the rumours page, makes an interesting read, tell me what you guys think.

Not United related but Sanchez has learned the Barca way very quickly. I never saw him dive last year when he was playing for Undinese.

Am I the only person who still thinks Macheda has a future at United? if he knuckles down and works hard I think he has the potential to be a good striker! I suppose the question is how long do you give him to prove his worth...?

All talk of Snejider being a mercenary and he had his chance to join aside. What odds do people think there are he could join in the summer. Inter in 8th, no prospect of champions league football and the europa league is an uncertainty. They showed little chance of scoring against Juventus recently. Could Snejider be tempted to take a wage cut or alter his demands and come to Old Trafford. Would show what he missed out on if they win their 20th title this year. Interested to hear people's though. What do the ed's and Sydney think. The man would be an asset and may be classed as a marque signing at the right price {Ed004's Note - Would prefer other players to sign instead of Sneijder. Don't know if he would suit our style of play and Rooney seems to be a better CF. If you think about it Rooney has 24 goals I think in the premiership from CF so if we were to sign a striker like Benzema or Llorente or Higuain etc who will get 20+ a goals a season as well I think our attack would be deadly with two strikers nearly hitting 50 goals alone in the league. You would also have hernandez and welbeck to rotate and both of them score.}

Time for my turn on Welbeck and Hernandez/the striker force in general. At the moment with the striker force we have Rooney who is the complete striker. No one need question that. But the others:

Hernandez: He is very poor on the ball, you can't hide that. But he is lethal in the box, that is undeniable. Hernandez to be effective though will have to stay in and around the box. He is at his best there when Rooney is behind him. Hernandez has bags of time to develop though, he will no doubt work on his overall game as well as improve his already very good finishing.

Welbeck: Welbeck is similar to Hernandez in that he has time to develop. SAF has said he is still growing which presents lots of challenges to a young lad like him. When he fills out fully and gets more and more confidence i think he'll be scoring 20+ a season. He is also versatile which is useful, however i prefer him up top.

The others: Well, i think the others are going, Macheda and Berbatov are too slow. If anyone stays then it will be Owen who is purely a great finisher. He could happily stay for me, he offers good experience to the likes of Keane, when fit he is a threat and would be good for the dressing room.

I'd be happy to see us go into next season with Rooney, Welbeck, Hernandez and Owen. Instead of signing a top striker, id rather us go for Hazard. That could release Rooney up top to play on his own, or it would mean that Welbeck would stay more central which is good for his learning process.

Some think we need a top striker to give us 4 good options.

Mancini disappoints me. After proclaiming that Tevez would never play for City again, he hauls him back from his 5 month holiday in Argentina to save the day. It seems Balotelli, Dzeko, Aguero, Silva, Johnson and Nasri weren't enough of an attacking threat. Then he dodges the media after the draw at Stoke. Now he has Vieira doing his dirty work for him again. Is he that scared of a direct war of words with Sir Alex? The pressure seems to be getting to him.

Whilst Caughtoffside is a load of rubbish, i love the rumour they came up with today. It'd be the ideal scenario: Sign Hazard and Martinez for £55 million.

We can all dream eh. I also read somewhere that Pogba has almost signed a new deal.

What has Viera been up to now?

Manchester City development executive Patrick Vieira tells BBC Sport's Dan Roan that he feels title-rivals Manchester United benefit from preferential treatment from referees. What a load of rubbish this bloke talks.

i am kloot, rainfish or whatever you call yourself there days that is exactly the point i am making. I never said cesc or pique were not good players i said they were just short of world class. Their both close and will be world class. I just think the term world class gets banded about far too much especially in england.

I see the nani haterz are back. Whether or not people choose to believe this, it doesnt really matter but ronaldo was just as frustrating as nani. How many times did ronaldo choose to do 1 or 2 extra stepovers or cut inside rather than cross the ball? How many times did he decide to dribble or take a shot when other players were in far better goalscoring positions? How many times did he fail to step-up in big games? As a matter of fact he stil does all these things at madrid. Ronaldo only became consistent in 2007, yet even then lots of fans were still slating him and saying he doesnt track back, he is wasteful and selfish, he is a ronaldinho wanna be and we should sell him etc. But look at what kind of player he turned out to be.
Funny enough, people are sayin the same stuff about nani that they used to say about ronaldo up until 2008. I didnt believe that crap about ronaldo and i definately wont believe this crap about nani.
Come 1st september, nani will still be here. So all you haterz should suck it up and get used to him.

As everyone seems to be putting in their requests / wishlist for the summer window - here is my most fervently hoped for list;

1. SAF / Gill - sign somebody in the first few weeks of the window.

2. SAF then says "right - thats it - no more signings" - and goes on holiday.

3. I can then b*gg*r off on holiday without having to check my internet at those outrageous French internet rates - every hour or so, too hear about; bloody Sneijder this or bloody Sneijder that (tho I would rather like to see him play for us).

i do think the words world class are vastly over used. Lets take barca for example. Top class team, lots of very good players but how many are actually " world class" ? I'd say five: puyol, iniesta, xavi, messi, villa. And three of them are thirty or over. Most of their other players i'd say are the level under world class like cesc and pique etc.

Ed sorry I didn't see final warning until after I sent my reason and apologies. Ive stopped now. Sorry. How long am I banned for? Permanently? {Ed002's Note - It is a short-term ban for a couple of days whilst you figure out a way to become a better person and find a way to integrate yourself with society again. Attempting to post the same thing to the Conspircay or any other page is a real neat way to make the ban permanent though - so don't be dumb.}

I see alot of posts on here mentioning Gaitan and that you think he would be a good signing. I thought you would have learnt by now; do not show that you are even slightly interested in a player or Citeh will no doubt decide to make him an offer. As a child you want what your mate has got or what he wants, its humour nature for children, they don't know any better.

So on that note

How about that Stewart Downing, he looks world class, going to be a world beater in a few years, rumour has it Barca and Real are interested in him ;-)

I ve been readin a lot of critisisme of welbeck lately, about how he is not gona become a worldclass star and he is not manchester united striker.
well if we look at the current world class in the game, you can see that all of them have something in common: a strong asset. Every player is great at something, world class in it: rooney is a worldclass shooter, cristiano : dribbling down the flank and shooting, messi : dribbling , ronaldo and van nistlerooy: finishing, scholes/ xavi/ iniesta: passing.
Now every player has a strong point, a base i would say on which he has to focus and simultaniously work on other aspects of his game.
rooney worked on his passing and footballing brain. scholes shooting xavi dribbling cristiano finishing messi finishing/ passing .....
Now the fact that welbeck is an all rounder is the reason he wont be a world class :he is not a natural . More of a pedro than a villa. Welbeck is not a dribler, not a shooter, not a finisher, impressive workrate and thats it.
chicharito on the other hand is far from beeing as complete as welbeck but as a matter a fact he is one of the best in the world in terms of finishing and harrasing defenders. he needs to work on his passing and ball control but he is a natural finisher. With proper training he can become our new van nistlerooy in terms of scoring.
A comparaison of mma fighters is inevitable: the best fighters all have a style that they are mastering and they work on other styles. For example a worldclass muay thai/jui juitsu/wrestling fighter has more chance of becoming the real deal than a normal all rounder ( if he works on the other styles and develops them so they wont become his liability ).
This is why i beleive chicha has more potential than welbeck who i beleive is gona be a great great player but not our new worldclass player.
I beleive the same can be said about young and valencia : young is more of an all rounder ( with a good shot ) while valencia is a worldclass crosser with unbeleivable pace. if he works on his left foot so he could use it more often than he might become one of the best players in the world .
Mick
ps: excuse me for comparing football to mma but the later is my field of expertise and i found that theres a ressemblance.

I love coming on here and reading peoples views about a team we all love and I have been very interested about peoples views on hernandez and wellbeck.

Both these players have there faults and areas of there game in which they can improve on wellbecks goal return being his main issue and hernandezs link up play being his but come on these players both have some excellent attributes and are still young and will improve game on game season after season. With rooney still maturing will keane in the back ground I think we are well stocked for strikers at the minute and if we do bring one in it would be just to back the main three up and the young lads can learn alot by watching owen in training as he may not be the player he was on the pitch from a few years ago but still nows how to find space and get in the right positions to find the back of the net.

We have a soild look to our squad two good keepers a solid range of defensive players some who can play in more than one postion across the back four left back is maybe were we could improve but there is fabio and fryers for there to so if we were to bring one in a young player with potential would be ideal for that postion.

Midfield is an area were we all know we could do with improvement but we are trying to build a young team that can play togther for years to come who have that understanding of playing togther for years so I can see us buying players who are past there mid twenties so who can we see coming in. I would say the oldest player we will go for is modric at 26 as fergie is a long time admirer and i think he would be excellent for our team an all round top player who will be very suited to our style of play. Nani is a player who splits opion among most united fans and I am one who loves seeing him on one of his good days a fantastic player who can do most things when on song score goals beat a man supply goals everything but his main weak point is he far to inconsistent and I think this will be the reason that he is moved on in the summer which will mean us bringing in a left sided player which could only be one of three for the way we are looking to play which would be bale gaitain or hazard. I would be happy with any of these three all would fit in well and ashley young can be pushed up to play of rooney taking the need to buy a striker away and any of these three players could easily play in the hole behind a central striker too and the main thing this gives us fluidty thru the team the abilty for player to interchange positions very much like barca do and keep a flowing football brand we all love to see. As for the deep lying midfield postions Pogba strikes me as box to box type of player not somebody who sits in fornt of the back four sweeping things up so he and cleverly can devlop along side the likes of modric, leaving carrick as the midfielder who can sit infornt of the back four unless we bring someone in which i would but the problem lies not only do they have to be able to break play up but be good on the ball and be able to keep us moving, now there are players out there like this but very expensive to buy, martinez and m'villa fir the profile of the type of player we are buying very well but they are going to be very expensive and may not adapt to the english game and at the prices that are going to be paid for them that might be to big a risk to take so who would fit the bill for this role then? I would say there are two players in the prem who in better sides would have the potential to turn into top class players and they also fit into the age range of players we are trying to buy and these would be fellani and mcarthy. I know some people slate people when fellanis name get mentioned but i have seen him play many times and again last night at sunderland and he gets better each time i see him and more importantly watch him play for belguim with better plays and then judge him he has the potential to be top class and at around 15-20 mill he would defo be one of the players I was looking at and similar coments apply to mcarthy round the same sort of figure money wise and all tho no top class just yet you only need to look on are right wing in valencia to see what a difference playing with better players can do he was very good a wigan but look how much he has improved since he came here he looks a snip at 18 mill.

We have the basis of very good young squad that will get better year in year out and if we could just get three players in the right three this summer I think we could be set for many many years to come with a great squad for fergie to hand over when he chooses to retire that wont need much altering at all.

'004, 007 & Red Man'

First off, I wouldn't say no to a decent striker like one of the finished articles mentioned on this page, but lets take a look at Higuain, RVP, Drogba & Cavani at Welbeck's age. At 20/21 RVP joined Arsenal and was very similar to Welbeck both in stature and potential, he would play as a wide man and come in from the left, but when played as a striker he wasn't prolific in the slightest. He didn't turn out too bad did he? At 20/21 Cavani was playing for Danubio, even when he went to Palermo, after three years (23) he never impressed and that is why he was loaned to Napoli where they signed him. Higuain didn't start knocking them in until he hit his twenties, around about Welbecks age. Even Drogba at 20/21 was playing for French minnows Le Mans and he was far from prolific for them, he never turned out too bad either did he? Real Madrid had Eto'o on their books since he was a teenager, sent him out on several loans, he didn't impress so they sold him to Mallorca permanently. A few years later he signed for Barcelona and has never looked back. Real Madrid must have been kicking themselves. Welbeck is 21 and is still a baby in footballing terms, even David Villa didn't become world-class until his mid-twenties, he didn't play for Spain until he was 23. I agree that a striker like one of the above would be great to add to the squad and I would relish the chance to see someone like Cavani at the club, but lets not forget that they were just like Welbeck once.

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - It is a long and tangled story, but I remember Le Mans when Christian Gourcuff (Younn's father) was player manager at Le Mans. I am pretty sure that "minnows" is an inappropriate term - they bounce between the top two divisions.}

I find it funny the amount in wages Chelsea are offering top managers and are still getting knocked back. There reaping what they've sown. No one wants the job as they know that the moment results go against them that there job will be on the line. I mean even Brendan Rodgers turned them down to stay at swansea. At this rate De Matteo will get the job by default. Lol.

Shappy {Ed002's Note - You shouldn't believe everything you read. Chelsea have not made any financial offer to anyone at this time.}

Guys I notice there is a lot of talk of welbeck and Hernandez being unable to be top class, and that we should buy a world class striker. Now maybe I am missing something but getting goals doesn't seem to be the real issue.

I see little point forking out upwards of 20m on a striker when we have quality up there, and all our strikers, even Rooney are still developing. We need midfielders, anyone can see that, and even with berba and Owen moving on, I would rather any money we are allowed to spend being pumped into at least two players who can dominate the middle of the park.

Besides if we start bossing the middle and the wings and give top service into the box then anyone can score the goals, especially Hernandez. So I say back the forwards we have and hope we strengthen the midfield.
