Perhaps been asked but is it a strange time to be given the job? Ok he's been plugging away for a few months but we are entering the business end now. All along the narrative was wait and see. Now he is manager. What was it all about? Ok he did well. But only well. We ate still not guaranteed top four and certainly to go further in cl we'll be challenged. However My question is WHY NOW OF ALL TIMES. is it for a further bump and take us over the fourth place line? We do need a boost as arsenal are hitting form and our performances are slipping. As i said many times, i really pray for the board to get its finger out and back this guy. Give him cash, give him a diector of football, support him. he needs it. He's not a jose or pep, he's learning but he's one of us. i have my doubts but i want him to be the man. I really respect him and hope he can compete despite the protracters. come on ole.

Probably because Woodworm has realised that going into the business end of the season with no manager is a bit daft when selling the club to all those important potential signings, sorry sponsors.

Its been a very long time since none of manchester United's back 4 were playing international football.
Out of our preferred back 4 three of them can't get into the england squad and ok lindelof pulled out. Herrera darmian rojo jones mata are also not selected and martial not a regular intl player. Its as poor a representation from united 1st team players at intl level for as long as i can remember.
Ddg lindelof bailly lukaku jessie matic and pogba are the only regulars starters for their country . Rash probably falls into that category. I read today and It seems odd that we had less players playing intl football this week than 14 other pl teams.

We had a lot of players withdraw from international duty during this break. Personally I think that is a great thing going into a key couple of months. It has been said the players were physically drained after the change to a new more physically demanding approach. A weeks break might just be exactly what they needed to carry them through the rest of the season.

Congrats Ole. With that sorted out, the next critical thing would be to appoint a DOF as soon as possible.

We need our transfer plans in place and need to get it right this time with atleast a couple of key positions sorted out with quality signings. It would certainly take a few windows to sort out all positions, but this window is critical for us.

I just fear with Woodie in charge and the power vested upon him by the Glazers. Hopefully we get a DOF before Woodie gets to showcase his deadly skills on the footballing side of things.

With the kind of 'audition' Ole has had, it would have been very difficult not to make him permanent and would have risked a lot of toxicity (to borrow from ed 02).
A couple of months to end of season, with pre season already planned we and the team needed to know who will lead Utd.
Now this decision is timely and will facilitate all other aspects of the game for us.
I think this appointment is the most popular with the fans since fergie left, we have but one hope; Return to GLORY.
Ole Ole Ole!

regardless of the fans opinion

the guy has transformed the team along with his staff has us playing football again.

the last 2 games have both been losses but we look tired given now we do more in games.

everyone said his test was feb/ march well he well and truly passes that test.

he deserves the job and now the hard work starts.

Well ot7 ole has lost points on Liverpool since he took over so they aren't overly concerned.
Im delighted though.
I don't understand the timing of the announcement. But there is no doubt that its a popular appointment.
He ticked nearly every box during his trial period. He has earned the job.

I don't think he has earned the job just yet.

Leahy spot on. What if things go pear shaped from now until the end of the season. No way can the club sack him as it would be really badly received by the fans and press. As much as I like Ole and appreciate what he has done so far the fact is he has won nothing of note as a manager. I hope he makes me eat my words and I will be delighted to do so but I fear that once again the club have made a bad error of judgement.

Agree1 Disagree2

28 Mar 2019 20:35:00
I believe the timing brings a boost to the team after the international break and hopefully brings new energy after the last two games. hopefully It would last until the end of the season.
It would be interesting to see how the team stands after the barcelona maches. regardless of the result.

Who else was available?

Poch wants to stay to house warm the new stadium. Also he's won nowt.

Blanc, not good enough.

Allegri not the right style.

Anyone else?

We have a few hard games coming up, I would still have waited and the end of the season I would be looking at what ole has done the last few months and make the decision straight way after the last game of the season.

Presumably at some point between now and May Woodworm starts thinking about maybe signing a player or two, just to have something to put on the outgoings column of his excel spreadsheet. He meets with agents. They ask the important question: "if my client moves to Manchester who will be his manager? " Probably not best to leave it till right when everyone in the football world packs their bags and heads for the nearest beach to be appointing a manager.

Agree2 Disagree1

29 Mar 2019 00:31:28
Don't appoint him yet, just wait for the next game, then the next game.

This feels like the appointment Moyes was supposed to be. A guy who will grow into the role with the values of the club at the core of his being.

He's a positivity guy who has lifted the performances of the players he's got. The club feels more unified. Maybe that means we don't sign 6 of everyone's favourite players in the summer. But maybe, just maybe, it might bring us sustaining success in the longer term.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Mar 2019 01:31:06
I agree Mort that we need to have a definite plans and manager arranged well in time for the summer holidays and transfer window but imagine if we start to lose and drop out of contention for the Champions league places then which top players Will be attracted to us? Should have waited til our season was defined as a success or not.

Very pleased for Ole. But will Woodward use this as another excuse to avoid appointing a DofF? He really has no idea - the DofF should be involved in any managerial appointment, but Woodward can't even manage to put a job description together. LVG was right - the structure at United is ineffective.

Another stupid decision by Ed Woodward. Why couldn't he just wait till the end of the season. May be has now gotten his "Yes Man".

Not happy with the decision but Ole will have my respect as he holds the position of the Manchester United Manager. Hope he turns us around and gets the team playing as we want and gets the results that we want.

Great and only decision that could be made, the press conferences were becoming a joke with Ole constantly having to fend off questions about the permanent job, Iโ€™d imagine thatโ€™s why itโ€™s been announced now. Also we will be looking at transfers for the summer, a club in limbo isnโ€™t massively attractive to anyone so now the stability should hopefully help us get the players we need.

Ole says what the majority of us think, he got rid of Fellaini as many wanted, played Rashford through the middle, dropped Valencia, played pogba further forward, got the team attacking and scoring more, thereโ€™s no reason to think he doesnโ€™t know the positions and players we would all want to sign, and hopefully he improves the squad in the summer. Exciting time to be a fan thatโ€™s for sure, enjoy the ride.

On the fench with this, great job so far, but there have been a few cracks, hope he grows and becomes a truly great manager for Man Utd. Time will tell, he has surpassed all expectations, I hope he can keep doing it. This first transfer market is massive, with both incoming and possibly more important, out goings.

Bolger you and me have been watching different games then. United have hardly been exciting in 2019. We have been playing in second gear most of the times even with Rashford playing where you want, Pogba playing further forward and without Fellaini.

28 Mar 2019 12:53:08
UA, that's a typical reply of a plastic fan.
Ole has hardly had few months to impose his philosophy.
Everybody knows that the club is in a mess. (Lack of structure, poor transfers, etc, . )
Still he has managed to lift the place and had a start which no manager in the history has made.

Everything will not happen at once. Atleast he is playing the right players in right position for starters. He is conducting himself as a proper Man United manager.
And mainly he has brought back the "Never Give Up" attitude.

Agree2 Disagree1

28 Mar 2019 13:32:12
How is this being plastic TrueRedDevil? Care to explain that snide comment please. We surely didn't give up against Wolves. Never mind the result though. I just questioned the decision and the timing of that decision when we have just suffered back to back defeats. Ole might have done enough for a lot of you but he has hardly done enough for me to be given the job midway through his "temporary" role as caretaker manager. I agree that he has lifted the place but after the reign of the last manager, anyone would have had that effect on the squad.

Under Ole, how many games has Martial turned up? how many has Pogba been up for? Brought on Lingard when he was limping in the warm up thereby risking the player. Some rookie mistakes have been made every now and then. Agreed that has had the rub of the green in some games, like Spurs, PSG etc and he has played a few good ones like Chelsea in the cup but there have been quite a few deadly boring games and that isnโ€™t exciting. Under the โ€œtoxic oneโ€ as some used to call him, most said that the squad was talented, and the only problem was the manager and he wasnโ€™t allowing them to play with freedom. Now that he is gone, you are questioning the players that Ole can't do wonders with them. So what is it, was the manager wrong then or the players?

My arguments on this page won't make any difference to the decision makers and Ole has been made the manager and he will have my respect, whether I like it or not. I just hope that this decision has been made using the brain but I am afraid it has been made using the heart. I also hope that he has the desired effect but I am also afraid, this will end up like Roberto De Matteoโ€™s temporary charge at Chelsea.

UA, you think anyone could have come in and beat Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal at their home?

On another note, there is no other top class managerial option available right now.

28 Mar 2019 14:54:33
so addict.

the fact is since ole has been manager we have scored more goals, conceded less. had more attacks, more shots, more sprints most points least losses etc etc - i could go on and on and on and bore you with the rest.

your not telling me you have watched every game and not seen a difference in mentality?

we have lost 1 game in the prem, sit 3 points off 3rd.

pogba 8 goals and how many assists in 12 games under ole?

martial was in form until he got injured.

lingard was passed ready by the medical department not the manager and the player said he wanted to play.

and if it turns out like de matteo then he will add another European trophy to our name.

you clearly have not been watching the games if you think we have not improved.

United Addict. I really hope it does end like Di Matteoโ€™s reign lifting the champions league.

28 Mar 2019 14:56:46
It's both. Jose was stale and toxic and some of the players just aren't good enough. And we have an idiot running things. Jose has gone. Ole will hopefully move on those players who's best before date has expired. Indeed this has started with Fellaini gone and no new deal for Valencia. Although some, for now, remain like the last few packets of super noodles unwanted and unloved. If we can get this director in and ship a few more out, clear some wages, sign up the new deals on players and bring in some exciting additions we should go in only one direction. I have concerns but I also have hope.

GDS2, yep he did what most of us would have done, does not make us great managers. If he can persuade our top talent to stay and commit to a future and sell his vision to some new buts and finishes top 4 it will be a dream start.

UA, you seem to be a Jose Fan. Just like Jose (of the recent times) always finding faults, always looking at the negative aspects instead of appreciating the positives, you always come out here giving a negative vibe.

Everyone knows the squad needs massive improvements with quality signings and time to get us playing that free flowing attacking football that you and all of us would love to see. There are also other issues with our infrastructure, player development, our wage structure among others and all of these need time to sort out.

The fact is Ole deserved the chance with what he has achieved in terms of the results and the uplift of the mood at OT within the fans, the players and everyone at the club. If you can't feel the buzz and excitement that Ole and his staff have brought back to the club after a very long time, and only want to see negatives then there's nothing one can say.

Agree3 Disagree0

United addict.
This squad was 2nd last season playing poor football.
He took over the same squad pretty much in 7th playing even worse football.
He turned the mood in the camp around straight away. Has had some outrageous luck in some games that's true but he got results.
The football is not amazing but its much improved. We are scoring goals and creating chances.
We don't have the players to play amazing football.
Our midfield is very very very weak. Only 1 of our starting 3 could command a place in the better teams. And behind that if any of them are injured are fred and mctom.
So i understand you are frustrated by the lack of amazing players but all of pep fergie and clough togrther couldn't make our midfield great.
Martial is massively inconsistent still and our defence is very suspect.
Jose getting 2nd was a huge over achievement with this squad ole winning 14 out of 19 is also over achievement. The squad is very weak in vital areas and the 1st 11 is short 3 or 4 so until that's addressed then you won't get the amazing football you crave.

Excellently put forth Ken.
You have addressed almost all the shortcomings of the club.
But, some fans just ignore these facts and want miracle to happen in few weeks.
We need to be practical here.

The club needs an overhaul. We have tried 2 top managers.
Now we have given it to one of our own.
Let's hope for the best.
