29 Aug 2015 22:07:57
I can't see anyone else coming in this late. Even if chic does go I think playing one striker he's happy to go with Rooney, Wilson and possibly Fellaini until January at least. I really hope I'm wrong as I've said a million times. We are desperate for a forward and won't win league without one

Believable4 Unbelievable7

29 Aug 2015 23:06:04
Agreed. Letting Hernandez go would normally signal that someone else could be coming in, but i just thing LVG doesn't rate him. The looks on LVG's face after his missed against Bruge summed up how he feels about him IMO. If he was to stay he'd be out of the picture i think. Hopefully there's something in the pipeline but given the lack of options out there i wouldn't be too confident.

Agree4 Disagree0

29 Aug 2015 23:07:13
Yea I know, we never bring anyone in this late, haven't done that for at least 12 months.

Agree6 Disagree6

29 Aug 2015 23:12:44
I think there could be something to selling Hernandez. We're short on strikers, but don't look like we're in the market for one. There are also rumblings that a certain someone above the manager is interfering in our transfer policy. This certain someone also knows a thing or two about playing up front. Could it be that we will see them come out of retirement as our reserve striker?

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2015 23:44:59
Sorry for having a different opinion to yourself gds2. Shall I run it by you next time I post? "I" don't think we will. "I" hope we do.

Agree6 Disagree0

29 Aug 2015 23:48:31
Nah it'll be Daley blind as centre forward. Him at centre back is a cunning plan to see how different forwards play.

Agree2 Disagree0

30 Aug 2015 00:10:05
Centre Back left back Defensive midfield striker maybe he's the plan for goalkeeper aswell

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2015 00:52:56
Whom is this person you speak of Danny Pugh?

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2015 01:32:34
Stand,

Don't need to apologise to me mate, not sure why you felt the need to, I hope we do as well, not as obsessed with shiny new transfers as some people but I do think we might be left a little short up top especially if Hernandez goes.

Agree3 Disagree3

30 Aug 2015 13:18:24
Gds, I think we are short up front even if he stays. He's hoping we bring in a forward in the last 48 hours, but I'm not holding my breath

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2015 22:02:59
The amount of deadwood remaining in OT at the moment roughly equals the number of PL titles Liverpool have. All thanks to Van Gaal. Very few would have that strong personality and conviction to do what he has done imo.

Believable5 Unbelievable1

29 Aug 2015 23:24:06
That's what the man does.

Some managers are promotion specialists. Great at getting teams out the championship to the promised land.

Some managers are survival specialists great at keeping teams up.

Van gaal is good at rebuilding clubs. Clearing deadwood, overhauling outdated set ups. The manager after him will inherit a club with a great squad and set up.

Agree9 Disagree1

29 Aug 2015 23:33:01
It's all well and good clearing the decks of players he doesn't feel are up to scratch; but if he doesn't replace them with players that are it counts for nothing. If anything he is just weakening the team.

Last season he complained about not having a 20 goal a season striker; so he allows four strikers to leave the club (who between them have 405 club goals in 689 games between them since the 2009-2010 season) and doesn't bring one in. To me that's bizarre.

IMO we're weaker now (in terms of our starting 11 at least) than we were in SAF's last season - despite spending an insane amount of money in the wake of him leaving.

Agree1 Disagree11

29 Aug 2015 23:50:03
Its woodwards job to bring the targets in not the managers. Also given the zero net spend is there owner interference?

Agree4 Disagree0

30 Aug 2015 01:33:52
Redseven,

In my opinion we are a hell of a lot stronger now than the team lvg took over, he has done a great job of in stilling belief in the team and getting rid of players who aren't good enough.

Agree5 Disagree0

30 Aug 2015 01:25:40
Hate fans calling our players, 'deadwood'.

Agree3 Disagree2

30 Aug 2015 03:22:54
NC99 I enjoyed seeing most folk pay tribute to Jonny Evans a day or so ago. Even though we all know he wasn't as good as say Nemenja Vidic, he gave his all when selected, was one of our own and was very loyal.

To see players like Evans, Fletcher, Rafael etc being disrespected as 'deadwood' as soon as their United careers have come to an end is simply embarrassing and disgusting.

Agree3 Disagree1

30 Aug 2015 06:19:47
unrelated to what happens to Hernandez which personally i would be very surprised if he goes, i think we have needed a clear out for many years now and rebalancing things from wage bills to just personnel.

You have to respect the guy for what he has done as many would agree they needed to go. It does set us up well for the future in terms of people coming in and even if a new manager comes in, he is not burdened with a squad that is very unbalanced and wages that restrict him from new signings.

Given our financial position and earnings i believe going forward we are the best placed football team to make significant signings and add to what we have. We have a young foundation of very good players now and a few additions here and there will see us win trophies every year and compete at the top with Europes best.

This is very good team and as the season goes on i expect it to gel and get better. A premiere striker or right winger before the window closes would be ideal but hard to think of anyone that would be available.

Agree1 Disagree0

30 Aug 2015 08:03:17
I agree GCU we should have been more ruthless with the players we have let go years before now but it is not to say they should be disrespected.

I also agree that we have a good core of players here, a good mix of youth and experience and if the media is anything to go by, then yes we are very well placed financially.

I will just ask you this though City have been crippled with FFP restrictions yet have shelled out more than ยฃ150m on top players so why aren't we using this financial muscle of ours to strengthen and become a real force this season?

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2015 08:20:33
Maze

I think the players city bought fits their needs and not necessarily our. One can argue de Bryne would have been a good fit but then again when ever i watch him he either plays on the left or as a number 10. Ottamendi is also one people would have argued for and was also my preference to Hummels but obviously we balked at the valuations.

We are not lacking options on the left or at the number 10 position as rooney is the natural choice there for me. We need a striker or a right winger but no one of any significance has moved in this window. Many of the big teams are also looking for similar type players but there seems to be a genuine lack of players available.

A couple years ago we had this big debate here that we would not spend money on anything over 30 million which i found amusing. I firmly believed we would spend and watched us spend 150 last summer, although not very wisely. We have the funds but i believe the manager when he says we will not spend money just for the sake of spending if what we have is already as good.

I think this team will surprise people as the season goes on. For my own peace of mind i would like to see a goalie and forward secured before the window closes and would be content watching us go this year. Sometimes not great to watch but we will win many games.

Agree1 Disagree0

30 Aug 2015 10:00:46
Ok deadwood maybe isn't the best term. But it still needed doing and was long overdue.

Think we all would :-)

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Aug 2015 23:34:28
Unfortunately I don't see us signing Bale or Lewandowski. I've not seen enough of FA to have an opinion either way. Think that a CB and GK are just as important as a CF and RW though.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2015 06:21:51
I agree with redseven, i think we need a goalie if DDG goes. I would love to see a natural right winger added but looks very unlikely.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2015 21:39:20
Saw a story online that club officials are in Paris
After today's dealings maybe Marquinos? Laccazette or zlatan?
Are any likely?
And who would you prefer?

Believable0 Unbelievable5

30 Aug 2015 06:23:39
Highly unlikely as those players are indispensable to their clubs and at this stage of the window impossible to replace. Marquinos for me is superb and someone you build your defense around for the next 10 years.

Agree0 Disagree1

29 Aug 2015 21:03:30
Good evening all, a question to the eds and all is there really any benefit in waiting deadline day to complete transfers, surely the selling team would then have the best bargaining tool like the mop situation, unless they want to sell then I could imagine it would be better for the buying team

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 Aug 2015 23:38:43
I think it works both ways - with many clubs resigned to losing players and taking it down to the wire to get as much as possible. We've stood firm on the DDG front this summer but I expect that the decision to sell him was made months ago with the fee being the only sticking point. In holding out we've probably gained an extra ยฃ5m or so; but it leaves us with no time to sign a proper replacement.

The only time that a club can really benefit from a deal going down to the wire is if they've already signed a replacement and can afford not to sell the payer if needed. I expect that might be where Everton stand come Wednesday morning. They either keep Stones for another season or take in ยฃ40m+. Ultimately it won't make much difference on where they finish this season.

Agree1 Disagree0

30 Aug 2015 00:44:20
Works both ways as a club may have a player on their books who they want to shift so will perhaps sell on the cheap just to off load, Evans possibly Chicarito

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Aug 2015 21:15:31
being reported that LVG has told Chicarito that he can go. hard to believe that we can't have someone lined up if that is the case. Pato being linked again but hoping for a nice surprise before Tuesday.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

29 Aug 2015 21:11:47
Pace gathering on the rumours that hernandez will leave this window. If true it can only be a positive sign as there is no way that LVG could leave us with only 2 recognised strikers in Rooney and Wilson.

It's only a gut feeling but I fancy us to go for Lewandowski on deadline day.I hope it comes off.

Don't think much chance of Bayern selling personally

Agree3 Disagree0

30 Aug 2015 08:27:29
Mort

100% agree. People need to realise that selling is not option in this case where would that leave Bayern if they did. Financially some of these clubs are too big to sell key players and will not entertain even a discussion.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2015 18:05:30
Ok this is going to be an unpopular opinion. I'm watching in slight disbelief how the commentators in the spurs everton match simply refuse to criticise anything Harry kane does. He blasts one wide and misses by 10 meters, they say 'well, the instinct is still there'. He blasts over to row z, they say 'decent effort'. He misses a one on one and they try to explain how hard it is for a player of his age blah blah blah.
Now first of all, i think kane is a good player. Not 50m good, but still good. He'll pick himself up eventually.
Secondly, no other players are getting such support. Not lukaku or kone. Its always the English players and i can't understand it sometimes. Anyone else feel this way?

Believable7 Unbelievable0

29 Aug 2015 18:26:59
decent player nothing more imo .
cant understand why people wanted to spend 50 mil on him

Agree6 Disagree0

29 Aug 2015 19:02:34
I think he will come good and does have the makings of a top player. Not worth 50 million yet though.
Don't think the press protect him more because he's English , ebery time Rooney misses a chance they say he is finished.

29 Aug 2015 19:57:40

Believable4 Unbelievable0

Not entirely united related.
A couple of months back I have read a bold statement" who needs pogba?, we have loftus-cheek " and just in 3 games time I am reading Chelsea to bid ยฃ70m for pogba with 300k in wages demanded.
I know its paper talk but u never know with Chelsea. And mourinho was accusing others for trying to buy the league.
What a looser

First promising Janko and now Blackett to Celtic. We allowed them to have 2 good prospects, I hope its in return for something( van dijk) and even departure of Evans making it certain that a CB is on the way now. I personally would be very happy to see him alongside smalling.

Believable1 Unbelievable4

29 Aug 2015 17:25:43
Its a season long loan, good luck to the lad hope he gets loads of game time

Agree2 Disagree0

29 Aug 2015 15:14:41
So LvG says that DDG has refused/mentally not right to play so in case Romero or Johnstone is injured who does he plan to put on the bench?

Valdez and Lindegaard have already been asked to leave.

So if DDG is kept beyond the window does LvG expect him to be mentally prepared again as if nothing happened in the window and start putting in world class performances for us?

And if we do sell DDG that leaves us with absolutely no time to find a proper replacement as very few clubs would want to sell their first choice keepers so late in the window.

Apart from the ego-battle with Real Madrid I don't see how we can come out as winners from this transfer saga.

Believable2 Unbelievable7

29 Aug 2015 15:30:19
There is no 'ego battle'. There's a dispute in his valuation.

29 Aug 2015 15:40:52
Ok IMBS, iassuming you are right I am changing the last line of my post to

"I don't see how we can come out as winners from this transfer saga even if Madrid pay the amount that we are looking for."

What are your comments now?

Agree1 Disagree7

29 Aug 2015 15:59:09
De gea should act like a professional once the window shuts because
- the euros are next year
- no team likes such a player(unprofessional)

We win if, madrid pay what we want or degea stays and plays well for us.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Aug 2015 16:30:31
He won't play for us again. Madrid offer us a fair price we win. We stood up to Madrid and didn't roll over as they expected.

Agree4 Disagree0

29 Aug 2015 16:31:33
I hope you are right that he stays and plays professionally.

Because if he leaves for whatever money we get I don't see us having time to get a good enough replacement and the jury is still out on Romero.

Agree0 Disagree1

29 Aug 2015 16:45:32
I still heed ed002 when he said we had interest in Krul I imagine we would make a move pretty quickly if big dave goes.
Don't think it would expect the hardest transfer in the world to complete

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2015 16:48:56
It can't be a clear win lose scenario. There's a downside either way. We're just trying to get the best deal we can. Who knows madrid might be offering a laughable(subjective) amount of money.
They bought kroos when he had an year to go in his deal for 20-25 million pounds. We paid a similar amount for rvp.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2015 14:31:08
With our desperate need for a striker, and money to burn, ASMonaco's Anthony Martial would be a good signing and will only get better!

Defensively, we need to look at bringing in a defender?
A good bet and LVG knows him well would be Kongolo of Feynoord?

GK wise, I think LVG still isn't convinced Romero will succeed and Yann Sommer would be ideal!

Also, a message to all on the site, I personally apologise for my rant the other day, and hope it will be accepted and we all move on, so sorry!

Cheers, Ronnie.

Does anyone fancy Newcastle to do the business against Arsenal today? After the performance against us it must have given them confidence! 1-0 Newcastle!
As for Utd tomorrow I think we will go and get a result. I know Brugge played into our hands a little as they had to come out and attack after the first goal, but the swans aren't known for sitting back! I'm going for 2-0 with Rooney back amongst the goals!!

Ed001 - we have seen many clubs complete some very good deals but I'd like to know your opinion on the best 3 value for money transfers completed thus far in the PL (barring free transfers)?

Also do you think in the future we could see the window slam shut before the first league game begins?

Thanks.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - value for money? Oh that makes it difficult. I will have to do this in no particular order as someone like Schneiderlin will end up being great value for money, but that is long term.

Andre Ayew to Swansea City. Takes them up another level.
Son Heung-Min to Tottenham Hotspur. Just because I love watching him, so every penny spent is worth it for me to get to see him more often! Seriously though, I think this is one hell of an under rated player who was desperately needed by Spurs.
Joe Gomez to Liverpool. Cost so little, is only a kid and yet has slotted straight in like he has been there years.

Like I said though Schneiderlin has to be in contention, it is only that you signed Schweinsteiger as well, so the need for him wasn't so desperate this summer, unlike Spurs need for a forward, that stopped him being in there.}

29 Aug 2015 11:52:26
Darmian would have to be on the list for me

Agree4 Disagree0

29 Aug 2015 11:49:33
I'd actually be inclined to agree with you Ed001. I was thinking Ayew (who I do not understand why a 'bigger' club didn't move for him), Son (who would have been great for United let alone Spurs) and Morgan/Cech (I couldn't decide).

The young lad Gomez does look a good player and it will be interesting to see if he can keep up this level of performance.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I think Cech is a great signing too, but it was a lot for a keeper, and I personally think Arsenal would have been better just buying Begovic and being sorted for a lot longer.}

29 Aug 2015 09:50:19
Ed 01 hear anything spicy at United mate?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I heard Rooney had a masala last night.....

Seriously, I haven't heard anything the last few days, not new stuff anyway. I think, personally, you made a mistake not gazumping Spurs for Son.}

29 Aug 2015 11:50:24
Ed001 I posted the same thing about Son a few days ago. Top player.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I love Son as a player, I was desperately hoping Liverpool would buy him but at the time he had agreed to stay with his club. I am not sure what happened to make ask to leave, but I am trying to find out.}

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Aug 2015 14:18:04

29 Aug 2015 14:18:12

On son, I think United want someone with more star power than him, a marquee signing rather.
Tbh, i'm pretty satisfied with the team right now, a cb and a winger are indeed needed but i think we'll be challenging nevertheless. i could be wrong, most probably I am but I hav a good feeling about us this year

Agree0 Disagree1

29 Aug 2015 18:35:54

{Ed018's Note - it kinda works like that with the different places all of us live but you aren't being realistic. We all have real jobs and families to support. We all do our best to get the posts up as quickly as we can}

Hey Douglas. maybe after you start paying the Eds for the site and contributing your own manpower, then you can make those requests. Till then, it's only nice that you shut it and take the good work that is being offered to you freely - because you make no contribution whatsoever.

Can anyone elaborate on today's press conference, it's one of the first I've missed for a long time due to having to do overtime, did van gaal let anything away as to which positions he will be looking to strengthen, and did he say what formation we will be playing against Swansea and whether Fellaini would be starting or will he be sticking with the same team, now the champions league fixtures have finally been released I think it's time to start squad rotation, schneiderlin and Darwin haven't tasted champions league and need a break.

Darwin may not have experienced the Champions League before but he did predict its evolution from the European Cup.
