Without Valencia and Rooney your squad amounts to nothing.Manchester United are on the way down. When SAF eventually retires as he will and sooner, probably, than later, then the wheels will come off completely.Liverpool are on the up,the rebuilding process is well under way,we are building a squad based on the best of British youngsters much like you did with Giggs, Scholes,Keane.Cole and Beckham, its a model that works, Chelsea and Arsenal's league of nations teams could not compete with Man Utd over the last decade or so,now its our turn.SAF has lost his touch ,we are back, let battle commence !
---------------------------
Why would you come on here and say United are on the way down and Liverpool are on the way up? Why do you have to point this out to us? You know why? It's because Liverpool remain obsessed with beating United. I said this yesterday. Until Liverpool get rid of that obsession, they will never be on the level they used to be. You want United to lose more than you want Liverpool to win. It's hard to believe, but that is what Liverpool have become.

Right lads first things first,i could see what happened yesterday coming from minute 1.Dominate possesion with scholesy bossing midfield but no cutting edge whatsoever. For me Welbeck seems to waste golden chances game after game which cost us yesterday,as for De Gea well hes not ready yet and i think SAF should have taken him out of the firing line at half time cos he looked mentally shattered. Now onto transfers, personally iv given up any hope of us signing anyone of note this window but come the summer if players arent brought in to freshen up the squad then surely there cant be the same old excuses about value in market and all the best players are cup tied its starting to get a bit boring .

Why haven't they got a clue G.A.G.U.S.? why can't you disagree and give your viewpoint rather than just saying they don't have a clue. I happen to agree with virtually all of the posters points and they they are all valid, especially SAF's relationship with the Glazers. Well said no-namer.

J Bones.
-------------------------
I don't disagree with what he said about the Glazers or the problems we've had this season. I was actually referring to their views on De Gea. The original poster said that replacing Van Der Sar with De Gea was a ridiculous decision. That is the most ridiculous statement I have ever heard. De Gea is 21 years old. Anyone who was expecting him to be world class and stopping everything that came near him straight away is foolish. De Gea is an invetment and a very good one at that. People on this site are very quick to find a scapegoat.

How many times this season have we had the same back 4 for 2 games in a row? There is an inconsistency in our selection, whether it's in defence or in goal. Switching between Lindegaard and De Gea is not helping. De Gea should be playing every game. It's the only way he will learn. I saw posts yesterday saying De Gea is the worst goalkeeper in EPL history! Is that what Manchester United fans have become? People are quick to blame De Gea for every little thing, when there are much more pressing issues in the team.

Can you imagine the Liverpool victim/sympathy machine going in to overdrive if it had been Scholes who had done a tackle like Maxi's on Giggs. Halsey go's to get the red card out then bottles it and lets him be substituted instead.

This incident hasn't even been mentioned since.

After having a day to think about it I feel we played well and were unlucky to lose.
Yes DDG and Evra made mistakes but that happens sometimes. Considering the amount of abuse Pat got I thought he had a good game until he let Kuyt free.
More worrying for me was a lack of penetartion up front. Why was Welbeck on his own up there?
Nothing stuck up front all day and got worse when Chico came on.
Surely it was the day to play Berba!! The ball sticks with him and he brings others into the game which what was needed yesterday.
Why bring him on for 90 seconds? I genuinely feel sorry for him, for me he is a better player than Welbeck any day of the week.
The ginger prince was amazing, what a masterclass in keeping and moving the ball around the midfield.
CM should be him and Carrick, no argument.
Anyway being out the cup might be a blessing in disguise, we can concentrate on retaining the league, couldn't care less about the mickey mouse Europa league.
Anyway Fergie, get Berba off that bench!!!

Just a little something for all of the forgetful fans that are getting on DDG's back at the moment.

The Peter Schmeichel's mistakes over just two seasons: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fk-TRewbCZg

Now, watch what De Gea has done while he's been here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtU65F7cCAc&feature=related

The difference between Schmeichel making mistakes and DDG makeing them is that Schmeichel had experience at the time.

Maybe we should concentrate on the brilliant saves DDG has made for us this season? against Liverpool last time out we would of been spanked if it wasn't for him.

P.S - You might want to turn off the Volume if the DDG video the music is awful.

If our squad isn't good enough(as you keep telling us)then why are we second in the league and 16 points ahead of Liverpool because working on your logic if our squad isn't good enough then how poor is liverpools squad?

You are right in saying our squad isn't nowhere as strong as it has been in previous seasons but please don't try and convince us that Liverpool are in a better position because if your squad was anywhere near as good as United's you wouldn't be 16 points behind would you?

As for you suggesting a fellow poster should show you respect because you have been using this site longer than they have-WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE!

Considering how Cleverly and Anderson complimented each other earlier on in the season they maybe we wud have carrick covering the back four with andersona and cleverly in front of him with maybe scholes being rotated.

The changing point bewteen the game yesterday was the substitutions Liverpool had better subs to bring on which changed the game. How they would moan if they had 12 1st team players out. Look at all the moaing they did when Gerrard was out injured imagine where they would be with 12 players injured.......relegation more than likely.

If Mourinho was to take over in the summer as many people on here expect, we would definatly have money to spend, i can't see him coming if that wasn't the case. I could also see a change in transfer policy, just going for quality, regardless of age (unless they only have a year or two left). It could also mean a few Madrid players coming in, who'd rule out a Ronaldo return? Or an Ozil move. I think also the Sneijder rumours would intensify, maybe we'd go in for Benzema too who Mourinho looks to have faith in now. It could be very exciting for us in my opinion.

Delighted for Frazier Campbell today . Great to see him back and scoring for our " reserve team" and I personally, hope they do well in the Cup.

Stuffing the scousers in the next round, with one of our ex players scoring would do rather nicely.

I think i might jump onto the band wagon and say SAF calls it a day at the end of the season, he has said he wouldn't stay past 70 and now Mourinho has said he might leave at the end of the season. We're getting rid of the dead wood and dont seem to be in for anyone, maybe leaving a good heart for Mourinho to build upon?

I certainly think its between him and Guardiola foro ur next manager.

With the signing of 16 year old Andreas Pereira labelled one of the hottest young talents in europe, we will get to see how good our coaches really are.

If this guy is as good as people say he should be breaking into the first team very soon. Look at fabergas he was in arsenals first team at 16 we need to have faith in the youth cause lets be honest its been the scholes, giggs, beckham, nevilles along with a few great young signings ronaldo, rooney that have led us to champions 19.

What makes the current situation a little more irritating is that the Glazers remain silent regarding what their plans are for the club . In the last 12 months we have had the Qatar / Hong Kong floatation rumours but as of today nothing has happened. We look at City and their new found wealth, yet we remain one of the biggest clubs in the world, but unable at present, to capitalise on that.... why ?

Regarding the current squad I have read all the comments about the number of injuries that we have and acknowledge that, though add that as a few of these are long term, why have we not bought any replacements in January ?

Would you not agree that for the last year or so, the squad is being stripped, with more still to go, yet with no knowledge of what the "Master plan" is.
With us exiting the Champions League, I would have hoped that we would have given greater emphasis to the FA Cup but unfortunately it wasn't to be, so we now look to the Europa Cup and league as our only hopes of silverware.

Sorry, but my opinion only, is that the club is being prepared for a period of change though whether that be new owners or management, I am not sure.

close game yesterday , with us winning 2-1 , like i said we would , but i must say paul scoles is great around the centre of the pitch , its a shame for yous that hes getting old , but one thing i will say is for all your great wing play that fergie likes , would you not be better having a big strong young forward , who can terifly goalkeepers and centre backs and would cause mayhem in the box , as i said with good wingers that utd always seem to have , it would at least give you something you could use , in some games or at least in the phyiscal premership games , someone whos english - for the home grown quota would be better even , as i said a young forward who would have the best years still in front of him , who will just get better with age , someone like , hey someone like big andy carroll at our great club..............lfc

Have finally given up on Johnny Evens. Yesterday although not entirely to blame for the goal, he had a part in it by not even challenging a very poor Carroll. How many times do we have to watch him miss header after header in a one on one situation? Time to sell him Fergie he is poor!

He was superb when we played to villa at the villa park.Hope Fergie will have an eye on this young chap.

Some of the Und fans on here disgust me. We completely dominated play yesterday and were unlucky to come away as second best. Fair play to Pool, they took there chances and made them count. I know i'm likely to get slated by some less intelligent people on here but I don't care. Proud to be Utd and proud of our boys for playing a good game with what we had available....... On a side note, I see Pool fans are in the papers today for the wrong reasons again.... HERBIE

Some people on he need a big reality check...

Yesterday Utd were the better team, we just didn't take our chances and that was with a massively depleted team, away from home and against one of our biggest rivals.

We are second in the League despite having constant injury problems and being in a phase of transition.

Yes the world and his dog can see we need a few players but 1. Signing 4/5 players in Jan will unbalance the squad and 2. If the ones we want are available why sign players who aren't good enough.

This is a big challenge for Utd and people should get behind the team.

Oh and did anyone think Maxi was about to be sent off before he was subbed?

I think Mouriniho will replace SAF at the end of the season. Reason being the beaming of the stand, him saying he will continue for two or threepenny seasons (after 2001 he said he would never give a deadline), the reluctance to spend, the clearing out of the squad players...

All seem to indicate a change at the close of the season.

Based on some of the excuses people are throwing around, you would think we played our second string or reserves in yesterday.
But the reality of the situation is that, atleast 7 of the players from yesterday form part of our strongest starting 11 with everyone fit.
Welbeck, hernandez, smalling, evra, rafael, carrick, valencia, de gea, giggs, park, scholes.
8 of these players played in the champions league final, so lets stop with the excuses please.
What we need is atleast 3 world-class players, including a creative midfielder to improve our starting 11. But am begining to doubt that even one world-class will be brought in, in this window or the next.
When we get kicked out of the europa, expect the same excuses to pop up. Its getting rather irritating.
What's worse is, whenever fans express their frustration with the team's poor performance or question the managers decisions, they are branded as fickle or unloyal e.t.c.. This reminds me of arsernal a few years ago. Look were they are now!

One or two people have posted about SAF retiring and I have been watching the great man for a while thinking about this. Originally he said he would not go beyond 70 yet has more recently said he will go on as long as his health permitted.
On the 70 issue, if he really meant that then it gave a definitive date for his retirement and in 2002 it had a detrimental impact on team performance when they knew. Therefore if his intention is to retire at 70 then he would tell everyone he was going a couple of years past it. That is not conclusive evidence but subjective.
Another point is his health. He shows no visible sign of impediment however I do detect he is not as agitated this season, he is not prowling the touchline shouting orders as much this season. Against Newcastle he sat back in a way that surprised me and again yesterday he was not as agitated as I have seen him before. I may be wrong but I sense he has either been told to not get so stressed or he is not 100% and feels he needs to hold back a little. There is a difference in him this season.
A new manager would not want major purchases made and would want money available to buy the key players on first joining to make the impact he wanted quickly. We havent bought major players for 3 years. If Sydney is right we have plenty of money (although I have considerable doubt the Glazers will spend it)
The team are playing a little like 2002 era, forget the injuries but do seem to lack a little conviction in their play.
Finally it may be sheer coincidence but Mourinho is now rumoured to be leaving the Madrid circus in summer.

I may be wrong but I sense a change in summer.

with mourinho's comments confirming he is to leave madrid for the prem surely he can only really be heading for either us or chelsea,

the way i see it is with mancini having got his team playing well now city would be crazy to replace him,

avb has not really impressed as they had hoped but may do if given enough time (a few years) but mr money bags is not exactly renowned for his patience,

as for us well SAF (the legend that he is) may be wanting to avoid the same fate as our beloved Sir Matt and stay for too long and not replaced with someone with enough presence, having said that i dont think he would want to end his carear with a season like this one (although winning the europa would complete the set lol), i think there could be a chance that if mourinho were to arrive it may be as a tachnical director or something like that, help get the players he wants in and give SAF some tactical nouse (something our current no. 2 seems to be failing to do)

liverpoo are not gonna give up kenny, not that they could afford (or attract) jose
but i think spurs may have an outside chance what with 'arry looking like he will be taking over Engerlund after the world cup, although would be unlikely for similar reasons to liverpools

Super red

you have got to be 1 of the most pathetic fans I av ever seen. The exact same fing could of happened to lindegaard. De gea had bout 8 bodies in front of him for the first goal. And the second goal was a good strike. It's like sayin van der sar should have saved the messi and pedro goals in the champions league finals. They wernt exactly magical goals. As Sydney said in an earlier post. De gea doesn't make mistakes for Spain under 21s does he? Ul all b cryin in a few years wen the kids playin for Barcelona

Think some people need to take a look at themsves today and the posts that they're putting on here.
We had missing Rooney, nani, jones, vidic, cleverly, rio, fletcher, young, Anderson. Because of that we had a midfield 3 that were aprox 105 years old between them
We were beaten today by our arch rivals on their ground by a goal that was a mistake and gifted to them.

Liverpool won fair and square, they can only play what's in front of them but come on guys to totally slate the team today is a bit out of order.
Don't get me wrong I know we are crying out for a creative midfielder but apart from the result, all things considering it wasn't to bad a performance

Just a few points, and my opinion.

The context:

We are out of the Carling Cup, the FA Cup, the Champions League in the weakest group for a seeded team, and we are behind City in the PL with a weaker squad and harder run in than our competitor. All this and we are only still in January.

Goalkeeper: It is staggering that SAF paid 17m for De Gea. We have replaced VDS, a commanding, experienced brilliant keeper with an expensive frightened school kid! You cannot be the keeper of the biggest club in the world without experience and physical presence. This was a ridiculous decision.

Defence: Rio is a long-term back injury in waiting, Vida is out all season, and Jones is not looking like a central defender at this point, and yet no action in January. We rely on Evans and Smalling.

Midfield: Again Liverpool, loads of possesion, but few chances. We know what's required, a defensive midfielder like De Rossi, and someone creative like Goetze, but nothing in the summer or January!

Forwards: Welbeck is not ready to be a loan centre forward. Chicho has forgotten how to play football, and it appears, no coaching development, and Berba is not used as he should be. (he came on for 90 seconds today)

The injury list has been extensive for a number of seasons, (Fletcher and Carrick played if CD last year) so what are the backroom medical staff doing?

The Glazers are the worst thing to happen to our club in terms of ownership. Why don't they speak to us, and more importantly, why don't we demand that they do? To be fair to them, it is hard to speak when you are openly bleeding a football club dry.

Unfortunately, something that most feel is unmentionable. SAF should think about his position. Today he made an error by taking off Scholes for Chico, and that probably cost us the game. He should have replaced Scholes with another CM. He doesn't give youngsters their head as he used to, even bringing back Scholes and playing Giggs regularly to their detriment. He has also made tactical errors against Barca.

We should never be out of the CL in the group we were in, City at home was humiliating, Newcastle away was embarassing, and Palace at home proved we have little real PL quality in reserve.

Every dog has his day, and he has been the greatest thing to happen to United, but is he too close to the Glazer business empire now? I personally think he is!

His convinient excuses, for our consumption, not to buy top quality for United, when United fans bring in fantastic worldwide revenues are to be ridiculed!

Sir Alex's support is critical to the Glazers. Without him, they are sitting ducks. If they are still the owners, his replacement will need to be very compliant, and supportive in public, so not a Mourinho type. Perhaps Solsjkaer, who SAF could nuture and mold in the way of the United business? Makes sense, yes?

The FA today award the FA Cup tie to Manchester after accepting Patrice Evra's claim that his team in fact scored 6 times. Despite 5 of the goals not being caught by any of the players, the crowd, or the TV cameras, the FA found Mr. Evra a very convincing witness. On other hand, 'we found Mr. Reina's testimony to be totally unreliable. He admitted conceding one goal but was unable to come up with any evidence at all of saving any of the other 5. Since, Mr. Reina could not prove he saved 5 goals, we concluded that they must have been scored'. The referee said that he didn't recall 6 goals being scored but couldn't be sure as he threw his notes away after the game.Responding to comments that Mr. Evra had at very times after the game claimed his team had scored 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7 goals, the panel found that Mr. Evra, not being a native speaker of English, had confused these numbers and thought they all meant 6.LFC have been urged not to appeal by fair play campaigners saying that Man Utd won far and square and the team should not condone cheating.
