Sly reporting what Ed 002 told us moons ago, Toby, Rose and Dembele up for sale.

Per Herrera's interview on the club website, this is exactly why I've always respected the guy. Plays for the team, 100% committed and understands that it is an honor to wear the badge (and captain's band) . Furthermore, I watched the game vs Liverpool with a mate of mine who is a scouser and he said he hated Herrera more than any other United player; more of a reason to love him.

Believable11 Unbelievable0

03 Aug 2018 00:34:38
Herrera is a great pro. His kind of professionalism is not even the norm anymore, at least not at the big clubs, with these stars who only give their all when everything is just right for them. It just comes down to character. If Herrera got transferred tomorrow, he would give his all for his new club. Too many of these modern players will only give 100% if they are in their favorite position, if they are a starter, if the coach praises them, if their salary is good, and so on.

Think all this talk of McGuire and Mona is just to pressure on Leavy to sell Toby at a cheaper price, hopefully we get progress this week.

Believable5 Unbelievable3

02 Aug 2018 20:03:06
Spurs don’t want or need to sell him. The price they put on him is well above what we are willing to pay. We are moving down our preferences, and will likely sign Mina as other targets are either overpriced or unwilling to move.

Agree5 Disagree6

02 Aug 2018 20:06:30
Mona is already at Old Trafford. He’s the miserable bugger who stands in the technical area.

02 Aug 2018 20:51:06
Danny, the questions for Levy are what happens in a year, and given the new stadium, how does he generate funds for Poch? He is notoriously difficult to do business with and we usually pay over the odds so I would hope there may be some common ground somewhere. There was a rumour about them wanting Martial, surely that opens up possibilities.

Agree3 Disagree1

02 Aug 2018 23:39:42
I think Spurs are happy for him to see out his contract if they don’t get major money for him. They have a few young cbs coming through, and keeping Toby for two years is probably more appealing than trying to find a replacement in the next week. As for Martial, we have put a huge price on him (way beyond what Spurs would pay for any player), and Ed002 has explained that we’re unwilling to do swap deals.

We all know that Toby is available. The problem is that he is available for a ridiculous fee. Levy isn’t overly concerned about generating funds, he’s happy to let the manager look for cheaper deals rather than compromise on price.

Agree2 Disagree0

03 Aug 2018 05:54:00
Good points Danny, I suspect if we can sell a couple, what we are prepared to pay may go up. I also don’t see the sense in keeping an unhappy Martial. I guess it depends how far away our price is from what others are willing to pay.

How about Goncalo Guedes as a right winger and can also play as a false 9 or a striker. He is also younger then Bale and is available.

Completely random and overrated.

He does have a lot of talent and plays in the position we need to strengthen and is a lot fyounger then the likes of Willian and Bale.

I woulsve preferred Pulisic but going by the notes of Eds he isn't versatile enough for us to target him this year that is why we are after the likes of Bale and Willian.

the sky sports betting machine has gone full circle, alderwiereld, maguire, mina and all the way back to toby alderweireld. I'm imagining the headlines from newspapers releasing they're exclusives tonight about united and spurs agreeing a deal. i know you've covered this one over and over ed so don't expect any update unless you have heard anything new?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Aug 2018 22:59:33
It’s nothing short of disgraceful that Sky can push a rumour to get people to bet with Sky bet on it happening. How there isn’t regulation to stop that I don’t know.

Agree2 Disagree0

02 Aug 2018 17:06:16
So Spurs will apparently listen to offers for Alderweireld, Rose and Dembele.

A bit tongue in check but Why don't we put a package together to buy all three! 😀

Then we can move on Rojo, Smalling, Darmian, Shaw and Pogba (if he wants to leave) .

We are likely to have cash to spare to bring in another player as well.

Ideally Pogba doesn't leave and I'd prefer Sandro as a left back but would we be a better team with these 3 in and the others who are either not good enough or don't want to be here gone!

Believable2 Unbelievable2

02 Aug 2018 17:44:12
Dembele is done, Rose is no better than Shaw, but I’ll take Toby!

Agree3 Disagree0

02 Aug 2018 17:48:01
Eric, you beat me to it. Rose has yet to rediscover his form and Dembele looks to have slowed. We he only reason they will let Toby go i guess is because he won’t extend his contract, if we can get him, we should.

Agree3 Disagree0

02 Aug 2018 18:11:03
You may be right about Dembele as he was getting a number of yellow cards at the end of last season and at the World Cup.

Not a Rose fan but he is way ahead of Shaw over the last few seasons.

Agree2 Disagree1

02 Aug 2018 19:03:49
Rose great on his day but not been at it for 18 months really.
Dembele on the slide. Lovely player at his best but he is no pogba replacement.
Toby if we can get him would be great.
No issue with using martial if we have to to get Toby in. Best cb in the league imo.

I have a bad habit that I can not remember posters name. so when something happens I fail badly to pin point someone for their comment.
Why I am saying this. I remember, a few masters of optimism always cut other posters when they complaint for lack of signings or activity by saying that "window hasn't open yet" " it's just 1 week into transfer market" " toxics" etc.
And then miserably they go underground in situations like this. When all knew that we need Lb, RB, Rw, Back up striker, CB and a Carrick replacement, what our. club did? Signed a CM ( he is good) and a kid who is unknown. and now dates are going 1 by one and window is about to close. We are dealing a mess like manager comments, Martial situation, Pogba stories etc.
So my advise to those optimist princes are like others just read rather being a god and write it's only this and that.

Still 7 days to go. these guys can say. but others also have full right to worry for a beloved club.
I hope club do necessary signings and Jose play positive (! ) . otherwise again it's long and boring season awaits. And with this tectics and moaning manager, we can't expect chellange.

That is my worry RJ. I have a good feeling Pereira will get a run of games at the start of the season, perform well and then as soon as we have Jose’s ‘reliables’ back then he’ll be dropped.

Having said that, there’s also the possibility of José sticking to a winning formula, as we know he likes to do. So if we start the season well with Pereira, Fred and Herrera in midfield, José may want to stick with them to keep the momentum, though somehow. i think he’s more likely to bring them back in asap.

Either way, as you say jred. it shaping up to be an interesting start to the season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Aug 2018 13:30:39
It's been hard to make any kind of valued assessment on pre season with so many important players missing but I think we can take a few positives away from what we've seen so far.

The undoubted success of pre season has been Sanchez. He looks fit, fresh and perhaps more importantly hungry. Just as I thought Mata was surplus to requirements he appears to have forged an almost telepathic relationship with Sanchez and they've linked up brilliantly together. I've also been impressed with Pereira. He's been very good in possession and always looks forward. I hope he stays and fights for his place he could be a very useful addition to the squad.

Anyway all this got me thinking to how we could implement this next season. I don't think it's any coincidence that Sanchez has performed better higher up the pitch. Sometimes when he plays wide left he drops far too deep in search of the ball. In deeper positions he occupies Pogba's space and often finds himself with only one forward option in Lukaku. He has a tendency to surrender possession by trying to dribble his way out of dangerous, congested areas or plays the ball sideways or backwards as he has no other options.

I don't think Jose will persist with three at the back so surely there is merit in adopting a 4-4-2 diamond formation. A midfield diamond of Matic, Pogba, Fred with Mata or Lingard at 10 and Sanchez partnering Lukaku up front. Ok it might lack width but we don't really play with width anyway. It stops Sanchez from dropping too deep and he can still pull into wide left positions, where he can cut inside and shoot or deliver crosses for Lukaku.

This formation may also benefit Pogba. He has defensive cover in Matic, a No 10 to link with and Sanchez making runs in behind opening up space. Fred will bring an energy and intensity to our midfield. He is also very good in possession and mobile. He'll be able to quickly interchange positions with the likes of Sanchez, Mata or Lingard helping us to be more fluid, dynamic and retain possession in more dangerous areas.

I accept in an ideal world that better options at full back would help provide this formation with more attacking width but Young and Valencia are solid options without being spectacular.

In terms of signings we wouldn't need a RW with possibly a new CB our only real requirement. Whilst I think our existing CB's are adequate all are injury prone and none have really cemented their place as first choice. I think Alderweireld would be a great addition but I wouldn't hold my breath. Having said that if we could move on Darmian, Rojo and maybe even Smalling in the next week or so that might just release the funds to give Spurs what they want. 29 is still relatively sprightly for a CB and if we want the best then we'll have to pay. Surely quality trumps quantity and that would still leave us with Bailly, Lindelof, Jones and Tuanzebee who I think can be a superstar.

Agree5 Disagree2

02 Aug 2018 15:08:37
I think in an ideal world we'd all envisage Matic being rested in the 10-12 league games at Old Trafford where teams come with the game of plan of scraping a draw or nicking a goal. This would be perfect for Pereira to further develop in to the deep lying playmaker role.

Sadly only really see Jose doing this if we improve our defence before the deadline.

There is a reputable London and chiefly spurs based journo now saying Toby is likely to leave spurs. So here's hoping.

Agree5 Disagree1

02 Aug 2018 15:44:40
Totally agree Nathaniel I'd like to see Pereira given that role whilst Matic is out injured. I certainly don't see any problem with him playing that position especially like you've said against teams that will sit back and concede possession.

I think it was Shappy who posted a few days ago and commented that he'd like to see Pereira learn from Carrick and improve defensively by improving his anticipation and reading of the game. Making interceptions then intelligently moving the ball forward making incisive passes.

You don't have to be overly physical or a good tackler to be a good defensive player. Reading the game, spotting danger, taking up the right positions and cutting out passes can be just as effective. Carrick was brilliant at this. This is hopefully an area that Pereira can improve to supplement his technical ability on the ball.

Genuine question, if Martial hadn't scored against Liverpool on his debut in the manner that he did (especially with the commentary bringing the hairs on the back of your neck to a stand) would we all as United fans be in adoration with him the way we are?

Let's be realistic, outside of his first season he has been pretty average for a player who is at one of the top clubs in the world, and if that is down to him losing his shirt number (for an equally as illustrious number) then he really needs to give his head a screw on.

If he was so well thought of in the football world as he is by Martial FC United fans, there would be a whole host of clubs throwing money at us.

Alas, here we are. Overrated.

Believable7 Unbelievable6

So it's down to him losing his shirt number now.

Agree2 Disagree6

02 Aug 2018 11:56:17
I’d agree with mbd he is very very talented and that’s why we as fans are frustrated. He is the first player we have had since Ronaldo (perhaps Nani) who gets the fans off their seats when he has the ball at his feet. He has the ability to go past players like they are not there and create something out of nothing. Unfortunately it seems he has a bit of an attitude problem and therefore needs to be handled in a different way than say the likes of Lukaku who thrives off criticism and it spurs him on the be better.

This is where Jose imo needs to adjust. I’m all for challenging the players and looking for a response. I love the idea of players running through a brick wall for their manager. But not everybody is like that. Some need an arm round the shoulder. That is why Fergie was the best. His longevity attributes to moving with the times and employing the best coaches, whilst knowing that Nani or Anderson needed an arm round the shoulder, whereas he could challenge Rooney or Rio to be the best they can be. I digress.

Going back to martial, his attitude does seem to be questionable and he will Waste his huge potential if he doesn’t fix up. If he had jesse or rashford’s attitude we would be seeing a player tearing the league apart. I don’t think it’s a case of Jose not rating him, he just isn’t able to get a response out of him that he wants. Both parties are to blame. And so parting ways may be the best option. But if martial thinks he will walk into Juve, Chelsea or spurs’ side he must realised that he will be expected to work just as hard to fight for his place. Personally I hope he stays and has a great season because he has all the talent in the world to do so.

I wonder what changed after his first season?

02 Aug 2018 12:26:44
Jred, it’s well known that when Jose gave Ibrahimovic the number 9 shirt, Martial lost his head. No surprise that it’s since then he’s been a gurny wee gobsh*te.

Agree1 Disagree1

02 Aug 2018 12:33:20
Martial is an excellent player and was our player of the season up until Sanchez was signed. Sanchez came in and he was shunted out of the team. It must have severely dented his confidence. Young players need to be man managed carefully and I feel Mourinho's management of younger players is absolutely awful. He needs to be more flexible with players. The same approach will not work with all players. This was Ferguson's biggest strength in how he could nurture the younger boys and help them flourish.

Agree4 Disagree1

Agree7 Disagree9

02 Aug 2018 15:26:02
Wasn't he involved in more goals per minute than any other player at the club last season? There or there abouts.

I don't think he's overrated, he's played in a system that does not suit his style at all. The slow and laborious football does not play to his strengths.

If he plays in a more attacking team I can see him scoring more goals, becoming more confident and killing teams as he gets a few years older.

I hope that's with United and not another club.

I like Zaha think he has developed very well at palace and it is time for him to take the step up again. Got to admire he went back to palace kept his head down and became a better player. He’s premier league proven and has improved his final ball and added goals to his game. Would actually prefer him to Willian (who I’m a fan of) . But looks like spurs may be the destination for him.

Ed002 I have at times given you grief for calling utd fans toxic, sadly you were very accurate in your description.

Behavior of many utd fans on Twitter and others forums I frequent has been nothing short of disgusting. I have seen people questioning whether martial is lying about his wife's / gf's condition to avoid a fine, expecting him to go back to us for the tour despite his situation because of what he is paid, even brining up his ex wife and such to abuse him and the worst was some person questioning why a 22 year old already has 2 kids which apparently proves he is not a normal person.

Some fans need to get a fecking grip, it's pre season it doesn't matter. Losing to Liverpool or winning against Madrid mean very little. And football or for that matter any job isn't more important than your family.

I think martial is an excellent player and Mourinho would be crazy to sell him, but I won’t bring up Mourinhos wife or family to disparage his character. That’s what these fans are doing to martial.

Away from all the doom and gloom for a second, and all the transfer rumours that seem to change more frequently than time itself.

Is anyone else excited by the way Andreas Pereira has been playing in pre season? I know I’ve posted on here before about how much I’d like him to succeed and, although pre season is rarely anything to go by, he seems fit, hungry and has really impressed me in the number 6 role he’s been asked to play in.

I think the biggest thing for me has been his ability to unlock defences which we have struggled to do at times, and potentially more importantly, the relationship and understanding he’s built with Sanchez over the past couple of weeks.

Is anyone else as excited as me about these two in particular for the upcoming season? I know everyone loves a shiny new signing, but I love seeing Academy players breaking through even more, and with Pereira and Sanchez, we could potentially have the best of both worlds already in the squad, as I believe we will see a completely different Sanchez to the one we saw in January.

Anyway, just wanted peoples opinions on the matter, and wanted to bring a bit of (potential) positivity. Thanks to the Ed’s as always for their priceless insight and information.

I'd love to see Pereira get a run of games in the middle of midfield but I'm not convinced it will happen. Once Pogba, Matic and Fellaini return he will be behind them in the pecking order and Mourinho seems far more likely to play them due to his love of experience. Add Herrera, Fred and possibly McTominay in there is as well.

He does give us a type of midfielder who we don't have though and I think he could be a great asset in games where we need to keep possession.

Sanchez looks a different player after a summer off. He's barely had a holiday for something like 6 or 7 years. My guess is that this season he will be our player of the year.

One other thing for positivity is the 352 we've been playing. I still think 433/ 4231 will be our main system but in games where a team will sit back, being able to get 2 up front is important. Sanchez and Lukaku as a front 2 could be fantastic.

I think periera is a good player and will be used as a squad player. Time will tell how he'll handle not being played every week. But i like the guy and i would rather see him play as he's technically gifted, rather than Mctominay, who is big and strong and nothing else. No disrespect to Mctominay.
I think Sanchez is going to be the key player for us this year. If Mourinho would allow us to play more freely, then Pogba, sanchez and Lukaku will be an awesome combination up front.

He is a talented lad it would be great if he could get a run of games .
It's building up to be a really interesting start to the season.

With Matic currently injured and others returning from world cup duty I think we will see a 352 with midfield 3 of Pereira, Fred and Harera for the Leicester game.
They have done enough and other players need to do a pre season for me. Slowly eek in Pogba as August moves on.
