I've read a lot about United going for Diarra in the past couple of days, whether or not he is a plausible target is for you to decide.

Supposing he is though, I think he was head and shoulders above the rest of his team mates against Barca in the champions league, great work rate and strength being key. But when he played in the PL I just didn't think he was up to scratch.

Does anyone have news on whether he is a real target? But more to the point do you think he would have what it takes if he came back to the Prem?, despite being a fan of his, I'm not convinced he's suited to the PL myself.

Question time

Do we sell Berba or keep him for another year?

I have heard a ton of people (not from this site, we are all too smart :) ) saying we should hold on to him to maximize our investment in him.

My thoughts: Keeping him for 1 more year will not maximize their investment; selling him will. Berba is not getting any younger and will definitely not be as good next season. With young guns ready to step up (Welbeck, Diouf, Macheda although he will probably leave) Berba's playing time will only get smaller. If we keep him for one more year, he's resell value will fall tremendously. He is on a large wage bill as well which would give some breathing space in the finances.

Thoughts Syd, Red Knight, MPez, Matthew, 007, etc?

B {Ed007's Note - I think it is time for him to move on, good luck to him}

A bit confused in terms of Sanchez. With Young seemingly very likely to sign, surely Sanchez isn't coming here? Unless it's all a smoke screen. ? Whatcha reckon Ed?

Lots of talk on here about Modric/ Nasri/ Kaka/ Benzema and even the return of Ronaldo! to be fair i think there will be a lot of signings this summer but mostly young players from under the radar. If u look back to when we got beat 4-0 off Barca it started off a major rebuilding of a squad that 'won the lot in 99'. To be great again in Europe is gOnna take seasons but who better than Saf to be in charge of it and leave another legacy behind. Think the glazers will also be looking at like this as well, its better to gamble and buy ten youngsters and improve them
Than pay big bucks and lose aka Torres 50mil??? First time poster so go easy;) Rederic83

with de gea signing (hopefully) there was talk on the site about bringing in another spanish lad. From reading on here did we not have a bid for morata turned down in jan and are we not interested in javi martinez? I've not seen anything of morata but read he is like a morientes (spelling) hopefully the one before he came to liverpool. And javi martinez is exactly what i believe we need, and modric. Thoughts anyone? Tom

There will be three new signings at Old Trafford this summer. One of them is De Gea. No strikers will be signed as SAF wants Macheda, Diouf and Morrison etc to have their chance. If these strikers plus Berbatov fail then a forward will be signed in January.

Modric is a possibility but the deal Spurs want is quite substantial. Another factor is how Vidic and Modric get along (Croat & Serb). Sneidjer is prepared to give Inter another year and his wages are on par with Rooneys. Scott Parker's name has been mentioned but SAF wants someone more youthful and is pushing for Rodwell which Everton would demand £20m + Wes Brown + a n other on loan.

No forward will be brought as we will have
Rooney, Berbatov, hernandez, wellbeck, macheda(maybe lone), diouf

All these people saying we don't need a striker because we have these apart from rooney and henandez the others are not really going to worry Barcelona are they. If Fergie wants to give barca a game for more than 5 mins he needs at least 3 world class strikers factstat.com

I like the idea. Unfortunately, if Wenger will refuise to sell us Nasri, we have even less chance of getting Fabregas. {Ed004's Note - However with Fabregas he has an awful injury record.}

Eden hazard will not be at united next season

Lille's manager had this to say on french tv:

He told L'Equipe: "Five of the 10 greatest clubs in Europe are following him, calling and calling again.

"As any player would in such a situation, he is asking himself some questions.

"There are offers you cannot refuse, but something unreal would be needed. It is senseless to give a number.

"I rate it at 99.99% that he will not leave. We want to keep him."

And put his price up by how much?!

Who is the better for me Ronaldo because he has done it in this country and he is doing it in a poor real madrid team, I like messi but he is playing in the best team in the world at the moment and I think I could score 10 goals in that team.

There's a hell of a lot of pessimism been posted on here in the last couple of days over transfers and the fact that Michael Owen has signed a new deal. Firstly I don't mind Owen signing a new deal as he is an experienced striker who all of our strikers could learn a thing or two from. Even Rooney in terms of out and out strikers play, not that he plays that role to often nowadays but still. On the other point fo transfers I will stay optimistic until proven otherwise. If I am proven otherwise however I will be be devastated. I still think we will sign a big name to replace Scholes and not just some budget player. De Gea is pretty much done, a big name to replace Scholes, another midfielder and a striker would be fantastic. I'll be happy to take 3 of the 4 though.

If someone says he knows a 'middle man' then they would know the De Gea situation. If you post saying you love Gareth Bale and you want him to sign for us, then that is up to you, but surely I am allowed to post my opinion on Bale? Just because it differs from yours it doesn't mean you should cry about it.

Apologies to folks, this one won't continue for too long but I had to reply to this one. Stop reading if you don't want to read my moan.

Sydney, what is to say that that guys middle man knows a bit more than wherever you get your info from? A lot if people would have made similar comments as you about Gazza joining us and look what happened there!
You can have a difference if opinion to me and if you aren't a fan of Bale then that's your deal but you didn't just disagree with me did you? You questioned my loyalty to this club and had the audacity to claim to know how my mind works and why I like Bale. Remember? It's because we're both Welsh! ! Despite the fact I live much closer to Manchester than I do to South Wales.
Disagree away but don't belittle folk in a non funny way when you're doing it.

Sorry again everyone, frustrated with some comments.

www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1371703/Manchester-United-option-Angelo-Henriquez-Chilean-striker.html

Here is the link to the ANGELO HENRIQUEZ deal. I hope it answers a few people's questions and it proves what I said to be true.

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - You will likely need to remove a number of speces from the URL.}
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Also to answer a previous question, United have first option on Henriquez, the fee has already been agreed, so the selling club cannot haggle any further if he starts showing world class performances in the next year or two. So he has 'all but signed' the difference is that say he brakes a leg or something worse happens to him while in Chile, we have not lost any money.

It's a clever way of doing business. I advise people to check him out on Youtube, he is 99.9% a United player.

I think that utd will wrap up De Gea after euro U-21 and varane who will then go on loan to a french club. Hopefully Modric will come in although back ups could be sneijder or Kagawa. Finally we will look for a winger/ frontman depending on berbatov sale and they will look at sanchez who can play both roles and young as a back up. Sales may include brown berbatov and obertan.
These buys would make our squad one of the best and hopefully lead us to get title no. 20!

I am afraid to say that I think some of the posts on here might be correct. I really hope we sign some of these players we are being linked with, but I cannot see it happening. Gill was talking about a big summer in an effort to get us to renew our season tickets, that deadline is on 12th June and it will be all talk up till then. After they have got our money out of us with promises of 'big players' the likes of Nani will leave for around £25m and we will bring in Young for £16m, and we will not get any marque signings.

I hope I am wrong but I have that familiar feeling!

I've been waiting years for this news, happiest day of my life FACT!

On another note, Hazard is not going to happen sadly.
Aguero to Real will not happen, and he is keen on Chelsea or United.

Guys, Higuain will sell for more than £15m, disregard what Real Madrid feed to the media, they also said eight months ago that Benzema could be sold for a cut-price £12m. It's all bollocks.

If Higuain is on the market, he will sell for a minimum of £25m. He would still be looked at closely by us I am sure, but I think we are more likely to sign Morata if anyone. £10m for Morata maybe a little too much for Real to turn down.

Get real people, We've got no money. Fergie desperatly tried to get Scholes and Van der Saar to sign for 1 more season, Owen was handed a new deal, Sad to say but we are just going to fall behind in this transfer market because its a given fact that chelsea, man city, liverpool and even arsenal are going to spend BIG. As a united fan of 20 yeras im getting sick of it now, wer suppost to be the biggest club in the world, i won't be suprised if by the start of the season weve only signed de gea, varane (never heard of him) and ashley young (not good enough)

(ED post it in Banter Section)
This could be our team for the next season:

- - - - - - - - De Gea

Twin- - - - Rio- - - - Vida- - - -Evra

Toni/Fletch- - - -Sneijder- - - - Modric

- - Higuain- - - -Wazza- - - -NaniI think Higuain is worth the 15 million that Madrid are asking for him(maybe even 18-20)

As much as i love Chicha i don't think his passing is good enough. . . . his clinicality is whats good about him but i'm sure Higuain would offer more than him in an overall perspective + he's only 23(10th december 1987) so has a sell on value. . .

'Mechagodzeala'

When someone comes on here saying we are buying Arshavin for £32m, I have every right to reply to the rubbish. For a start Arshavin is valued at £7m as he is 30 years old, his legs have gone and he has just one year left on his contract.

If I want to 'slap down' a ridiculous rumour, then that is my prerogative. I have every right to do this, just like everyone else have the right to question my opinions. It's a banter site and banter will take place. If you don't like it, then don't read it.

Sydney!

It's not just on ridiculous rumours though is it Syd? The De Gea hesitation rumour this morn. Jumping on me for saying Bale was high quality!
I'm not sure if anyone has explained banter to you but that is not banter. Me saying that your posts are weaker than the posts in a Commonwealth games footbridge or bringing up your love of all things Chelsea is banter! Telling someone they are wrong and are talking rubbish is not banter. You might disagree with someone but if your going to be harsh and not be funny don't pretend it's banter.

People criticise Michael Owen and run MU down for signing him for a further year, however, whenever he plays he tries hard, he never complains and invariably scores goals.

He could have joined anywhere on a free transfer and received a signing on bonus and earned more money AWAY from OT. The fact he chooses to stay speaks volumes for him and say what you like, but one on one with a keeper there are not many people I would bet on to out perform him and actually SCORE GOALS!

We ARE a big club and having him as a striker does not make us weaker. We do need urgently a midfielder in the Nasri, Fabregas, Modric, Sanchez Sneijder mould, hopefully we will get one or more of them. I genuinely get sick of people keep saying ''we are broke, no money etc'', ALL businesses have debt of some kind, this is being serviced, if however, we DO NOT buy a creative midfielder of the players mentioned, then I guess the naysayers will have a field day and maybe then I would agree, but hopefully that will not be the case.

The time is NOW for MU to buy, buy big and right. Cannot take another capitulation to Barca in the CL.

Lets show these Arsenal whingers and Liverpool losers what a BIG club REALLY IS!

Why are people linking all the Liverpool targets with United? Charlie Adam, Ashley Young and now Stuart Downing? These are all Liverpool targets not United targets!
Yeah Fergie is interested in Young but only as a transfer to fall back on if a deal for someone else doesn't go through and if he is still available.
Dimitar Berbatov has turned round and told SAF he wants to stay now. But, he will still go as SAF didn't like his attitude when he was told he wouldn't be starting in the champions league final. Newcastle are lining up a £7.5m bid for him. . Juventus and Bayern Munich also interested.
Either Modric or Sneijder will sign for United in this transfer window. . 100% fact!

firstly there seems to be aalot of people on here talking complete nonesense. in my opinion i believe it to be a great idea signing owen for another year. so what he getting on, he has cost nothing freeing up money for other signings, that's right money which we oviously have. hes experienced, he will score goals when he plays and hes happy twidling his thumbs on the bench. i know who i would rather have if we were in an injury crisis.

secondly i believe that there will be one or two midfielders signed doesn't (brain surgeon hey) i believe this is pretty obvious! ! a young defender varane sounds certainty. and maybe a forward with what lokks the possible departure of the diminative dimitar. with the youth cup squad having small amounts of game time. they are gifted but IMO just not ready for a huge role just yet 12mnths away. Keeper looks nailed on with DeGea again building for the future and also good enough to play now rather than an older keeper who is not as good.

If there are grumblings about CR7 possibly returning then in my opinion there must be some truth, maybe a little but some.

In that case I would make that the number 1 priority followed by modric and a DM. if CR7 has no chance on returning then I would move to Sanchez.

Sneijder will not be signing with United. He already said he will stay at inter which is a good thing because sneijder doesn't play well in a 442 while someone like modric would make that position his own.
Someone like de Rossi would do wonders for United where he would employ cover for someone like modric just like a healthy hargraves covering scholes.

Vds
Nev
Scholes
Hargreaves
Kuszczak
Brown

With the above leaving that reduces the wage bill. At least one quality player needs to come in to replace Scholes. The question is what does SAF class as quality? Sneijder? Modric? or is Adam good enough to do a job as a squad player? I think we should trust SAF to bring in the right players. The Glazers need to allow SAF to spend what he feels is needed to improve the squad. I feel confident about the summer signings so sit back relax and be prepared for big changes for the good.

Sydney,

Your arrogance and certainty concerning the transfer dealings of our great club are beginning to frustrate me. You state with conviction that Berbatov is almost destined to leave yet I have a sneaky suspicion this is born more of optimism as opposed to fact. As a long time reader I have seen many of your opinions (that you moonlight as fact) amount to nothing and noticed you use your apparent popularity as leverage to supress the opinions of others. Your rumours change to accommodate the latest flavours of the month and at times You come across as nothing more than the organ grinders monkey, marching to the beat of the drummer of popular opinion. I doubt you have an original thought in your head.

This transfer window may bring many things but we all know SAF always has a surprise up his sleeve, a reassuring thought considering this will continue to keep morons such as yourself second guessing all summer long.

Gan/ngiak, keep up the good work. Your posts are a welcome relief in a minefield of nonsense (as ironic as this seems considering their content!)

michael owen signing new deal tells me everything i already new is that our days of spending big are over forget schneijder, modric, sanchez we will bring in players that in my oponion are not as good as we have ie.young, adam and varane so please don't think we are signing modric we don't have the money

R - On one level I'd be tempted to agree, but seeing as Welbeck, Macheda and Diouf are likely returning, and it looks as though Berbatov is staying, £30m strikers really aren't needed (look at Barca, after their starting team what is in reserve?)There is no point in signing players for the sake of flaunting cash (Man City). Resigning Owen only makes available MORE funds to sign top quality mid fielders, an area of the United team which needs strengthening more than the front line.

- - On another front United have hit an apparent stumbling block as Atletico aren't negotiating a deal below the full amount of De Gea's buy out clause, United don't want to pay the full sum because he doesn't have long left on his contract.

That's everything new from my end, again from a middle man, nothing is concrete.
