Watching Tottenham and Liverpool over the last couple of days I wanted to ask all the posters a question - who was the last player we bought that we improved significantly. I think we may have to go as far back as DeGea.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Genuinely cannot think of one. Matic for a season perhaps.

Agree1 Disagree3

02 May 2019 18:12:00
Lindelof is one who has improved over the past two years, but aside from that it’s a bit sparse.

Agree6 Disagree0

02 May 2019 18:21:45
I would say Herrera is a better player now than when we signed him. I’m not sure who else.

Agree2 Disagree0

02 May 2019 19:50:39
Herera and Lindelof.

Agree1 Disagree0

02 May 2019 20:23:02
Lindelof is the only one. Herrera maybe, but he has been in and out so much it is hard to say if he is actually better of just getting a run to build up form.

But then it's hardly surprising when most of our signings have been players supposedly at their peaks.

How many players have we signed under the age of 23?

Agree3 Disagree0

02 May 2019 20:31:59
Ander, DDG, Lindelof.

The others can’t improve as they were invariably terrible signings in the first place.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 May 2019 20:51:26
Sanchez. He's really improved on the piano over the last few months. Think Bill Murray in Groundhog Day.

Agree2 Disagree0

02 May 2019 20:53:52
I wouldn’t say Herrera has improved, he has adapted to a new role. In Spain he played a bit higher up the pitch, and was a link between midfield and attack. With us he’s more defensive minded, and has improved that side of his game, but seems lacking in creativity.

02 May 2019 21:05:03
Luke Shaw?

Agree0 Disagree1

02 May 2019 21:27:03
What about young do you guys think he's a better player then he was at Villa?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - he was crap at villa and has gone downhill since..

02 May 2019 21:33:26
Rashford, Lingard, Lindelof, Shaw, degea, martial, Herra have all improved I my opinion. The only players to regress of not improve was Smalling Jones Rojo and Pogba but in his defensive he was already above our level he just has another fear I think we are holding him back from reaching.

Agree0 Disagree1

02 May 2019 21:58:09
😂😂😂. Just don't know why we even bothered signing him.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 May 2019 22:42:52
Only de Gea has improved the rest are tosh.

Anybody wants to give their insights on the change of Playing Style under OLE?
Like we were threatening in this first six games but started to get defensive by every passing game.
Now we look more like a LVG or Jose team? Is it down to the players or manager setting the team up that way?
ED's?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I would say it was mainly down to Phelan's influence.}

02 May 2019 13:00:57
I think Ed001, could be right. Phelan was often blamed a lot during Sir Alex's final seasons for a more defensive style.

Alternatively, the management team may have realised that the squad couldn't maintain the higher energy style Ole implemented in his first few games. At one point we had 12 of the 25 man squad carrying an injury. It was around that time we switched style.

Either way we won't really be able to see exactly what style Ole really wants to implement until next season when he has a few more players to suit that style and has had a pre-season to prepare the squad for it.

Agree8 Disagree2

02 May 2019 13:04:25
As ed001 said phelans old school approach has some positives and some serious negatives.

Also we have had injuries to some key players and there was a noticeable shift to results first over performance once top 4 looked within reach.

Lets hope things change over pre season although i have some serious doubts ole is up to the job.

Agree0 Disagree1

02 May 2019 15:26:55
He is just going to tarnish whatever name he has made. Wrong manager and not going to be pulling any trees if the previous two couldn't with the structure in place.

Agree2 Disagree3

02 May 2019 18:14:36
ED001 you say its down to Phelan's inuence. Does he have that much power that OGS will do as he is told?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it is not about telling Ole what to do, it is about the way he coaches the players. The players will be coached the way they are playing and Phelan is the man in charge of coaching.}

02 May 2019 19:32:47
Thanks ED001. Sounds like United would benefit from having a better assistant manager?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I think so.}

02 May 2019 20:23:34
Hopefully Phelan leaves in the summer.

Agree2 Disagree0

02 May 2019 20:56:04
Has Phelan agreed to stay on Ed? If so, in what capacity if we have offered him a contract?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I don't actually think he has agreed anything long term with the club yet. So there might be some hope of a change there.}

02 May 2019 21:37:28
Singh,

When you say whatever name he has made, you mean that he’s a club legend? He’s not tarnishing anything so far, he did a great job at the start with the best team, got a few injuries and the problems in our squad have been obvious. We have seen what he can do when he gets them playing how he wants so I’m looking forward to seeing them getting fit in pre season and starting next season with a bang.

Agree2 Disagree1

02 May 2019 22:01:03
I hope so too GDS but if he doesn't get the backing like the previous manager then i am afrqid he won't be successful. I also highly doubt it that he would be abl3 to compete against Guardiola or Klopp but the only positive is Guardiola and Klopp won't be around for ever.

The situation has become so bad that i am hoping Klopp or Guardiola leave so we can mount a challenge. 😂😂😂.

Agree1 Disagree1

02 May 2019 22:55:26
Ed you think we could bring somebody like meulenstien back? And would it be a good move in your opinion? I thought he was great here before.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - why move back? Why not find a good young coach who can grow with the team? United's greatness was built on finding the talent and nurturing it, amongst the staff and players. Busby was just a former Liverpool captain with potential when you hired him, Fergie was doing wonders with Aberdeen but it was still Scottish football and it was a risk. Your problems have come when you hung on to the old long after their time.

Busby was kept around the club far too long and Ferguson is still there in the background now. Sometimes you just need to move on and start again all new. You need to move away from the Fergie area and have a fresh start rather than another coach who is just going to defer to him. Fresh ideas are what you need.}

04 May 2019 08:36:19
Ed001

That is exactly what I have been saying for a long time. I don’t think it helps when Ole is so in awe of the past manager. I think it could all end in tears, a great sentimental heap of them.

We should have had a proper review and interview process which should have ended with someone like Pochettino and ignored the sentimental emotional claptrap. I see on here every day that we are just going to buy the players and see Ole fly, I don’t see it. Hope I am wrong because becoming inconsequential beckons otherwise,

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - it was odd that they made the decision just then. There was no reason to rush to appoint him, he was going nowhere.}

If Dave left would anyone take buffon for a year on a free to battle it out with romeo?

Believable1 Unbelievable7

02 May 2019 12:39:16
Nope, would rather have Romero between the sticks for a year with Henderson as #2 (playing Cup games) .

Agree5 Disagree0

02 May 2019 12:40:47
What about Casillas?

Agree1 Disagree7

02 May 2019 12:45:04
Not sure he will be over his heart attack in time singh.

Agree1 Disagree0

02 May 2019 12:50:10
@Singh, we are trying to build up a team for the future, i would hope that we do not sign any finished players or Rejects from other clubs.

Though, wishing Iker a speedy recovery.

Agree2 Disagree0

02 May 2019 13:02:14
Nope, we have bought too many older players looking for a big pay deal recently.

Romero is good enough to be first choice. I also have very high hopes for Dean Henderson.

So I would stick with what we have.

Agree6 Disagree0

02 May 2019 13:02:22
I was joking guys i wouldn't go anywhere these players. We need to build for the future and not pick players towards the end of their careers.

I would happily go with Romero for next year if David leaves and then look at replacing if he isn't good for us.

On a side note i wish Casillas a fast recovery.

Agree3 Disagree0

02 May 2019 13:36:44
Would it not be better for Henderson to spend another year on loan in the prem playing week in week out than be on our bench?

Agree2 Disagree0

02 May 2019 16:32:49
Dean Henderson could be Foster mk2 but we should be prepared to find out.

Plus talk of Axel Tuanzebe getting his shot we'd have two lads who know the club's expectations forming the spine of the team.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 May 2019 17:55:16
2nd choice keepers generally play less than 10 games a season, I would prefer Henderson to play 40ish games at Sheffield utd next season in the prem. Than play a mixture of Cup games for us.

Agree2 Disagree0

02 May 2019 23:22:16
If Dave goes i'd make henderson no 1.
Watched him a lot this session in a league that's tough and he had been great.
Without any doubt he is a better keeper and better suited to be our no1 than dave was when he became no1.
Im not saying henderson will become as good as ddg but if he becomes our no1 he won't let us down he is going to be englands no1 for the next 10 years and imo unites no1 if dave goes.
