Good afternoon everyone, I hope you've all had a great Christmas. So three games in what can we gleam from Ole's mini revolution?!

For me the biggest change has been in mentality. At last we now play on the front foot with courage and bravery. For too long under three different managers we had resorted to defensive, passive, cautious football and played with a mentality of containing the opposition rather than blowing them away; Of not losing and
cautiousness rather than taking risks and trying to win. LVG and Mourinho became obsessed by control. Too often they would let games dangerously drift towards full time precariously balanced at 0-0. Mourinho preferred to sit deep in a passive, low defensive block and was content with his team not conceding chances hoping a moment of quality from one of his attackers would win the game. LVG was similarly happy when not much was happening but he preferred possession to measure his element of control on the game. Neither were comfortable with flowing end to end football which would leave them squirming in their seat. For men of such experience it always astonished me that the only way to control a game of football was via the scoreboard and to start games so slowly and let them drift always seemed like a recipe for disaster to me. We were certainly not used to this type of football and I think it sent a nervousness and apprehension throughout the stands.

Ole certainly knows the Club and he's been able to quickly re establish the style and values we've become accustomed. We now play with more width and pace. We play quicker with more forward passes. We get players flooding forwards into the box. The fear has seemingly evaporated overnight and been replaced with a more cavalier spirit. Yes games against Cardiff, Huddersfield and Bournemouth hardly represent the elite of English football but perhaps that's the point. Ole has demonstrated that these teams are not to be feared. We have better players and these teams can be blown away if we simply match their endeavour, put them under pressure and attack.

Don't get me wrong I'm not getting carried away and we'll need more than spirit and a caviller attitude to compete with the likes of City, Liverpool and Spurs but we've suddenly become a more dangerous opponent. We're prepared to press harder, commit more men forward and with risk comes reward.

Man Utd have never suited the role of underdog, certainly not in domestic football. Our cautiousness has given other teams a chance. They have been able to play us uninhibited and without fear. In only three games Ole has reversed that. I don't expect us to finish in the top 4, I think we'll struggle against the better teams but for the first time in a long time we have our identity back and that's something to celebrate and build on. Happy New Year everybody.

Great post DLIB. I think we'll be top 4 by the end of the season. Only Liverpol and City stand out for me. And city are having a wobble at the moment. Just happy mybpositivity is back!

Happy new year posters and Ed's.

Well said DLIB
It is a significant improvement if it were only regaining our identity.
The three comfortable wins are a bonus.
The EPL is the most comparative league in football, there are no easy wins. That said we do expect to beat Cardiff, Huddersfield and Bournemouth.
It should build confidence to face the next big game against Spurs.
The aim in sacking Jose was to turn things around and in that respect it couldn’t have gone better.
We have our identity back, can we show our character now against the teams (currently) above us? i'm looking forward to that now at least.

We took a battering from all when Liverpool beat us 3-1, everyone knew we were there for the taking with Jose and his negative set up. This new attacking and great Arsenal side are beaten 5-1 and not much is mentioned. Why is this?

liking OGS comments about Lukaku - saying as a target man he plays with his back to the goal a lot and that's not effective . he needs to be facing the goal more, and needs to work on his fitness. or words to that effect. Obviously OGS has an affinity with strikers and we will see the benefit of that . Hope he is working hard with Sanchez and Lukaku and that they take it on board

On a side note we are linked again with Cahill, alderweld, Manolas and some other 21year old for CH . possibly all paper talk but for me throw the money at Koubilaly or Varane . no more "players with potential or stop gaps " for such an important position.

31 Dec 2018 14:58:37
Is Lukaku ever going to be technically good enough for utd? With Pogba, Martial, Rashford even Lingard we have players who can play the one touch game, lukaku's touch is as basically a tackle.

We have had an upturn in fortune and allround a feel good factor is there surrounding us although the tougher tests are yet to come.
All the players have performed better than they had before Ole took over. But for me the biggest takeaway from these past 3 games is it has brought our old friend Chris (CTR) back to this page. One of the more frequent poster when I first started visiting the site but less and less posts with time. Good to have you back Chris.

I know there are a few on here who think rashford isn't good enough. I just wanted to know their thoughts after watching him the last few games.

To me, he looks like a new player, like he has been told to go out there, run at defenders and express himself. It's refreshing to watch.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

31 Dec 2018 10:48:22
He’s been phenomenal these last 3 games. So dangerous and his pace is frightening he opposition defences. He still needs to work on his finishing but it’s amazing what a little bit of confidence can do to a player. Lukaku has a big task displacing him because he is the best no9 at our club currently.

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Dec 2018 11:05:31
Yeah he has looked very impressive (has have most that had been written off) .

Hopefully they all continue in this vain. As far as I'm concerned his performances didn't justify a team like Utd (like most of them), but the manager was obviously a major issue.

Looking forward to watching us play again.

Blimey Beast, grudging praise. Rashford is a real talent, he was being used in the wrong way in the wrong position, and he’s probably not alone. He’s still a kid but he has pace and trickery, I think we all know his finishing needs polishing.

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Dec 2018 12:35:49
Wow beast. Was going to say new year new you? Lol

He is a great talent AJH, can't believe some on here who really doubted him. He works his socks off too when things aren't going right.

31 Dec 2018 12:38:29
His assist yesterday was good and his goal shows he has the instinct. His finishing needs work but he's got a good one to learn off.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - His finishing surprises me a lot. Hes a very good striker of the ball however he just isnt naturally as clinical and composed as he should be. Hopefully Ole will improve it}

31 Dec 2018 12:48:32
Rashford was sensational yesterday.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Dec 2018 13:06:17
I have not doubted Rashford’s talent but have questioned his decision making at times.

However we don’t know how much of that was down to him or down to the tactics under Mourinho.

He now apoears to be more relaxed and is playing with more freedom.

For me his best position is down the middle.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Dec 2018 13:08:50

31 Dec 2018 14:18:33
I will put my hand up and say what i saw, Rashford has been brilliant these past 3 games. As a striker, i am still not convinced and it will take a few more games in the same form and against quality defenders to show he has got in him to be a quality striker.

Nonetheless, he has been magnificient in Ole's tenure. Hopefully he contiinues and fulfills Tony's high hopes.

Happy new year everyone!

31 Dec 2018 14:24:44
Hes got everything but is a but rash infront of goal. Once he learns to strike it cleanly he will be one hell of a player.

31 Dec 2018 14:33:12
Rashford has talent. i'd back him to have a much better career than martial for example. He is driven and has come on lots.
He will improve his decision making and finishing with experience.
We will for a lad of 21 he has vast experience at the highest level.
Martial has all the talent perhaps more in some areas than martial but u don't see the same drive and urgency in his play.
Both are players that can and will improve more under ole than under jose i think that's plain to see.

Rashford has put his heart and soul into every game no matter who the manager was and unlike some, that tells me he was playing for the shirt, huge kudos. He has some really good close control ball skills and plenty of pace but it is his finishing that let's him down. I have always thought finishing is a bit instinctive, split second decision making therefore hard to teach but there are basics someone will train into him. He needs to gain that clinical nature as much as possible in front of goal if he wants to be our main centre forward but he deserves a place as one of the front three of our attack as things stand. If you watch Greenwood he seems to be a natural finisher and that could set him aside. We should not be selling Rashford, he has a talent but whether it is THE talent remains to be seen.

Review Of The Day 31st December 2018

Ok a bit of fun.

First I want to be clear, I don't think we need a shiny new player. I would like to see Tuanzebe return so he can be a part of the first team set up to see if he is good enough to help at centre back.

But for a bit of fun. IF you could add 1 realistic player (no not Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar) to help ensure this current squad gets up into the top 4 - who would you choose?

Believable2 Unbelievable1

31 Dec 2018 07:11:51
ricardo pereira on the right for me, i think it’s only a matter of time before one of the big sides snap him up, but he’d do a massive job for us.

Agree4 Disagree0

31 Dec 2018 07:55:38
Koulibaly for me. I think for now we've got enough width at fullback with dalot and shaw abd we've obviously got no weakness in scoring due to the amount of attacking talent we have. But it's clear our defence is shaky, conceding pretty much every game and I feel koulibaly could help keep us in shape which will give even more freedom to attack. You see the difference of Liverpool after fixing up their defence and we saw it last year with city.

Agree6 Disagree0

31 Dec 2018 08:33:06
Probably Kouilbaly. Beast of a defender and could be perfect alongside Lindelof.

Or Sergio Ramos - just to wind up the Scousers.

Van Dijk or Salah to weaken and wind up tge scousers and potentially derail their season.

Kante from Chelsea to replace matic. No need for anyone in defence then.

Agree3 Disagree0

31 Dec 2018 11:29:51
Kante, absolutely awesome player who despite the accolades is still underrated by most.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - Kante would be the perfect upgrade on herrera for me as well. Him, Koulibaly or Ousmane}

31 Dec 2018 13:13:06
Good shout Penfold with Ricardo Pareira, great player.

The issue is realistic signing in January. None of the top sides will let their best players leave, also those in a relegation fight will also do all they can to keep their best players.

personally I don't think its a good idea to sign players from outside of the EPL in January as its hard enough to settle into a new team, if you add a new country to that then they are on a hiding to nothing.

Personally Ricardo Pareira or Nathan Ake would be the best options.

Agree3 Disagree0

31 Dec 2018 22:00:45
I don't believe a defender would get us top 4 (I don't even believe it is needed, as mentioned above, we have Tuanzebe to come back and Lindelöf is performing great), the issue we have, especially now that Matic has discovered a new breath of life, is a true right sided winger. So I'd go down the lines of Bailey or Pulisic, but Mbappé would be the dream (an attacking four of Pogba, Martial, Rashford and Mbappé would be destructive) .

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Dec 2018 04:34:41
Such a joy to see midfielders making late well timed runs into the box. Now there are multiple targets and threat dimensions allowing Pogba to show us the player who ruined City's championship celebrations at the Etihad last year.

The defense needs some serious work. Bailly is mental. He could well have been sent off earlier for a high boot in the penalty area. We all know we need at least one top class center back. However to eliminate the team's attacking potential by falling back and trying to overweight the defense just invites even more pressure on a group of players who have shown little ability to deal with it.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

31 Dec 2018 09:20:24
I agree with Shawthing. I think that Bailly is a liability. He doesn't seem to have much self control. His dangerous challenges began with one on Josh King on the side line. It didn't help that Ashley Young congratulated him for it, which may have contibuted to him getting wound up.

Agree1 Disagree2

31 Dec 2018 10:04:53
I stand by everything I’ve said about Bailly, he isn’t good enough. He’s an accident waiting to happen and as mentioned above he was lucky to last as long as totally he did yesterday. He’s reckless and not great on the ball.
