The downfall of Liverpool was the sending off of skertl. He is by far their best defender and keeps them strong and with can getting sent off they are week at the back so I can see them slipping up again soon . With Southampton loosing it looks like fourth is on the cards!

Can't fault much against Villa. Herrera was awesome and the other lads put in solid displays. Fair play to the boys and LVG for getting some form coming into the final furlong but it's just a shame it didn't happen a month or so ago because I feel we could really have threatened Chelsea.

That being said let's get rid of this mindset of 'we should be happy to finish 4th'. We have 2nd place in our grasp so let's get 2nd this year and get back on top the year after. Shove your 4th we're better than that!

Ljb,

Sorry to disagree with so much but skrtel didn't get sent off and can won't miss any league games due to his red card.

Not sure if everyone reads the 'Other' posts but if you missed it, StevieK (Noucamp99) is aroused by Herrera. Fair enough Stevie

It's true. I love that wee guy. Becoming the player I always hoped he'd be for us, when we were first linked with him. Him and Mata together are. damn, its happening again. Must dash :)

So here we are with our next 2 games looking tuff well i for one think we are going to beat man city!!

Herrera today was magestic, controlled the game and did what he liked basically!

For all those fans calling for lvgs head his job was to get us top 4 which i think he will do !

Cant wait for the summer transfers and next season back in the Champs league

20 times 20 times man utdddddd

A while back I posted some stats showing that Liverpool were the form team and we were having a wobble with our competition catching us up. Things have moved on somewhat. The form team right now is Arsenal with 9 wins and 1 defeat in the last 10. However, we are right behind them with 8 wins, 1 draw, and 1 defeat. Interestingly City are struggling having only taken 15 points in their last 10 games, which is 10 less than us. Our next 2 games are mega, 2 wins and I think 2nd is within our grasp.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

05 Apr 2015 05:41:03
2 wins and Chelsea comes within grasps mate and the whole league is wide open with arsenal right up there too. Chelsea seem to be struggling and Costa is out for a few weeks and a hazard injury will really make them average as he is carrying that team at the moment.

It is nice to see all the hard work that is being done on the training ground coming to fruition in the games. We look like a good side now. Very dominant; and not far from being ready to really push next season on all fronts, IMO.

Watching Herrera playing really puts a smile on my face. The guy is a fantastic footballer and, IMO, can become world class.

Hold on there buddy and keep the champagne on ice. Beating a pretty poor Villa team at home is to be expected.

I have mentioned the next 3 games as far back as Jan/feb . The next 3 fixtures are very tricky and hard to predict and let's get through next week with a result and we can start to feel a bit better.

I would be quite content with 4 points from the next 3 games. Anything better I will open a bottle of champagne myself. This thing is a long way from being over and expect some more twists and turns.

Agree3 Disagree3

04 Apr 2015 21:13:14
Gcu where is the confidence in our team? 4 points from 3 matches? Why? Come on, the team are playing as good as any team in the pl, so let's have some confidence in the boys and go out for a win against City.
Incidentally, the teams struggling in the relegation spots like Villa could be harder to beat than the other teams as they're fighting for their livelihoods.
Also watching Chelsea struggle against stoke should encourage us to go there and do well.

I think Ken deserved the chance to have a bit of a "dig" , to be fair. When we drop points the "doom mongers" ( not mongrels , auto -correct maybe? ) are the first to post. When the more positive ones post first after a win, we get shot down.
True , it was Villa at home , but as they say " you can only beat what is put in front of you".
It was another controlled and dominant performance again today , so well done on a good win.
I don't think Antone is calling for Champagne , but a win is a win and we are well in course for that automatic CL spot. We could lose all our remaining games and finish 6th or lower. But looking at it from a more positive point of view , 2nd place is in our hands , and therefore ours to lose.
And GCU , you are right about the next two games. They will be decisive , and you did mention them some time ago. But you were also worried about Spurs and Liverpool, and we didn't do too badly there did we?

Betty

Stop being ridiculous. We only beat Vila because they were so poor. As was the case with Liverpool and Spurs. We were average and only won because they were all terrible. Repeat ad nauseaum

04 Apr 2015 22:56:24
Still don't think Antone is calling for Champagne!! lol Bloody auto correct. Obviously should be "anyone".

AJH , yeah I know. Sorry , but can't help it. Must be all these anti depresants making me overly positive. Clearly we are still crap , and I should take the rose-tinteds off.

Nomid

I am quietly confident but city has been our bogey team for a few years now and they are still an incredible first 11 and for the derby will show up and play. Chelsea away is probably the hardest ground in the PL and Everton away is not simple. A draw and a win in the next 3 will suffice as we will pretty much guarantee ourselves Europe and i will be celebrating.

Its a shame we had such a poor start to the season or we would be right up there challenging and no need for this post.

Betty

I am sure many were surprised here by our result at Anfield and so was I. Spurs was easier than I thought. My whole point is we will probably lose one or maybe 2 on the run in but need to pick up points.

Look at Liverpool 2 back to back losses and they go from challenging for 3rd to a distant 5th. Things can change quite quickly and I would be very happy with a draw against city and chelsea.

No question we are playing much better and that is a function of playing people in the right position and not fiddling around with the line up.

Agree1 Disagree1

04 Apr 2015 18:13:31
I read from a previous post saying "getting 3rd or 4th doesn't make any difference".
getting 3rd gives automatic CL spot without any qualification games.
team getting 4th needs to play qualification games for entering the CL group stages.
Sometimes u get a tricky tie against a decent european team in qualifiers.

I assumed that rules haven't changed for next CL season.

tottenham can be level on point with us if they win their next three games (one on tomorrow) and we lose next two against city and chelsea. So it is not over yet.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

04 Apr 2015 19:45:01
Yeh. My post. If we can't get through CL qualification games then there's no point being in the competition! My point is Liverpool losing and us winning was more important to open up a gap between 4th and 5th than worry about 3rd. Let's qualify then see where we finish

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Apr 2015 21:15:41
There's confidence in our team. Why are you assumng we would we lose against city and chelsea.?

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Apr 2015 21:35:44
I didn't say we would, just if. Tell me one thing , which would benefit the club more this season . Finishing 3rd rather than 4th, or finishing 4th rather than 5th? Which has greater benefit to us? Making sure we get CL football has to be the primary target , for the money involved and players who want to be involved in it. If we can finish 2nd or 3rd then great, but Liverpool losing gives us a greater chance of CL football nxt season! Really don't see what's hard to understand here?

Herrera absolute class again today getting better and more influential the longer the season goes on. the tea, never really needed to get out of third gear today but got the three points which is all that mattered. given Di Maria some stick this season for his performances but u can guarantee he will create chance s when he's on the pitch. Maybe put young RB for Valencia and start Di Maria on the left fancy him against Zabaletta next week. Massive 2 games now happy we got the big sides now think we play a lot better against better opposition as the mini table amongst the top 5 shows.

Finding a replacement Tony Valencia is the priority in the summer for me just don't know what he brings can't defend and not much better going forward possibly the worst crosser in football.

Its true and our right side needs sorting out with a someone like, coleman, alves or clyne. We would be so much more balanced.

Agree0 Disagree2

04 Apr 2015 17:04:54
So after our 3rd good win playing attractive football, our 1st thought is to find fault with somebody? And Valenia did OK, he was direct, always available and worked the line all afternoon. You must be a joy to live with.

04 Apr 2015 17:05:22
Steady game on the whole once we got the first goal we just settled think we concentrated on not doing anything silly rather than going all out to kill the game.
Don't think LVG will change this side now for the run in dependent on injuries and fitness. Hererra was class again he seems to get better every game he plays, hope LVG has him in his plans for the starting team from the off next season too.

04 Apr 2015 18:21:39
I was at the game today and Valencia was pretty poor, always out of position, hesitant, wasn't runnig on for Mata to pay him on. I would have liked to see Rafa today but good result and good play.

Also Roomey was pretty poor upfront lack movement but wasn't really getting the supply

Morning Eds!

Two questions for you;

Mr Giggs, will he be with us next year?

And, do you know much about the young lad oliver Torres on loan at Porto? Looks a cracking talent.

Cheers

Hope these Stirling rumours are just that, overhyped hardly any end product, noway at this time is he worth that amount of money, maybe in 3/4 years, could turn out to be another walcott

But if it LvG stirring it up, its a masterstroke!!!

04 Apr 2015 11:45:50
No way he is a fantastic player for his age. He has much more to his game than Walcott. I'd certainly take him.

Agree6 Disagree3

04 Apr 2015 12:42:38
For the mega money it would take to get him I think we could find better elsewhere.
Not for me.
Do we want a player who goes to the press off his own back to talk about why he won't sign a new contract. Whether it is about money or about winning trophies either way it is disrespectful to the club who should deserve better.

Agree5 Disagree1

04 Apr 2015 17:04:38
why on earth would we want him, we have need a defender, midfielder and a right back.

Agree3 Disagree0

04 Apr 2015 08:46:05
Anything but a Liverpool win today I think is good for us. Ideally a draw. We still have a difficult run in and need that 4th spot minimum. We can still take points off Arsenal anyway when they come to us.
Looking forward to the games this weekend and hope we can push on against Villa. Be interesting to see how our tactics change against a more defensive team.

Believable3 Unbelievable3

04 Apr 2015 10:58:08
Take your point about making sure we finish 4th at least. But I am not at all bothered about what the other teams do. Like I said a few weeks back , if we get our own "house in order" and perform to the level we are capable of , our league position will take care of itself.
2nd is there for the taking , and we could , maybe even should , see the big head to head games coming up as an opportunity to take 3 points from our rivals , rather than being concerned about them.
These big games are what being a United fan is all about.

Agree3 Disagree0

04 Apr 2015 12:05:02
Exactly Betty. Who cares about Arsenal or Liverpool!

Agree2 Disagree4

04 Apr 2015 12:37:29
I totally believe we will make 2nd or 3rd and if results elsewhere help that then all the better. I would imagine most of our fans have some sort of interest in a game between the team and biggest rivals directly behind us and a team directly in front of us. I'm looking forward to watching it. Few injuries, red cards and a draw would be a bonus is all I'm saying.
Obviously the villa game is much more important.
How do people think we will do against a much more defensive team that will be happy to sit back and counter?

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Apr 2015 00:43:18
It's almost irrelevant whether we aim for 2nd/3rd/4th. The aim should be to win the rest of our games. That's the be all and end all. We do that, we come second. And winning every one of the coming fixtures should always be the aim anyway.
