What do people think of Declan Rice. could be ideal replacement for Matic?
Rotate with for starters then eventually make place his own.
Been very impressed with him again tonight.

Would be a good addition but would probably cost a fortune.

He's that good he could replace him now.
Give them Lukaku or Sanchez or both.

Looks like a fantastic young player. Very composed and reads the game very well. As above though, he would likely cost a fortune having just signed a new contract. However, if we are going to throw money at a PL team for a defensive midfielder, why not go mad?

If we finish in the top 4 and Chelsea don't, go for Kante?

Got to say rice was great tonight, and i was surprised to see how well chicha holds the ball up now.

I believe he is the best young midfielder anywhere and we should go all out to get him before City try for him.

We should sign him and Thomas Muller as a double act.

I don't believe anything on social media but Eric Cantona has posted a cryptic post.

DOF perhaps?

It's about his new venture, after Brexit the fishing caps will potentially be dropped, so he has bought a fleet of sea trawlers.

He is also opening a string of Martial arts clubs in Croydon.

I hope the club kept shandong lungengs contact details because i think we might be doing a lot more business with chinese clubs considering the wages some of our squad players are on.

Sanchez especially looks past his best and should be moved on in the summer. You can't have your highest paid player being a reserve.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

04 Feb 2019 21:04:23
Its a shame. Its it worked out but we need to move him on. Recycle his wages into a couple of new, younger hungrier players who fit the system.

He looks to have lost significant pace. He hardly beats a man in 1 on 1 duel. However, he still works his socks off and has a brilliant touch.
Hope he rediscovers his best form in the coming weeks.

Hi Ed001,
What kind of a center back do you guys think would be best suited for Manchester United?
Ed002 has mentioned few targets in the recent past like Skriniar, Koulibaly, Romagnoli, Alderweirald, Maguire, nikola milenkovic.

I think we can agree that, ideally we need a suitable partner for Lindelof. Is a defender with a big stature needed especially in the EPL?
In yesterday's game, Maguire won almost all the headers in the United box.

Alderweirald stands out as a good reader of the game whereas Koulibaly is a giant on the pitch, athletic similar to Van Dijk.

So who can take the defence to next level similar to the impact Van Dijk is having at Liverpool.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Alderweireld. By far and away the best of those you mentioned.}

Maybe we could do a weird science project and mash the best bits of Smalling jones and rojo together into one player.

Mort, i think even if we did that we would still end up with a below par player.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Feb 2019 19:31:45
Smalling’s urge to rush toward the halfway line combined with Rojo’s longshots over the bar, and topped off with Jones’s gurning. Small Rojones would never actually leave the treatment table.

Manchester United Must Acquire an Appropriate Centre Back in the 2019 Summer Transfer Period

Koullibally ticks a lot of boxes if the scouts feel he could play well with Lindelof. Good ball player, tall and dominating in the air, LCB and left footed. I haven't seen enough of him to judge how well he would transition to epl or play with Lindelof or bailly. But the little u have seen he looks a possibility.

Alderwereld has played plenty of games for Tottenham at LCB and been outstanding. Don't agree at all that he is exclusively LCB. He would be my choice, but no doubt Levy would find a way to screw us.

Guys - not sure if discussed but what are the thoughts on what paul ince said i.e he could have done what ole has done. My feeling is that he probably would have won a few games alright but I don't think his persona is on the same level as Ole. i'm not saying Ole is or isn't the answer but he is more "manchester united" than Ince is. It would worry me that the "Guvnor" ego would resurface and players would rebel again. he seems hurt he wasnt in the mix for the interim post.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

04 Feb 2019 11:30:43
We wouldn't give a caretaker job to "the sacked one" especially with a last ten matches coached record being 0 wins, 1 draw and 9 losses the complete inverse or Ole's.

Ince is just trying to keep himself relevant.

He loves to throw a controversial headline out every now and then, he made a career in the media by badmouthing us, and imo has done enough to distance himself from United fans over the years. He’s nowhere near the United legend that Ole is if previous comments are his actual thoughts.

Agree4 Disagree0

04 Feb 2019 11:37:16
How did Paul get on in previous jobs?

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Feb 2019 11:40:54
It strikes me as something someone with a lot of insecurity would feel they needed to say, as though he's trying to tell the world, 'I'm a good manager, honestly! ' It weirdly reminds me of Mourinho feeling like he had to tell us all he's turned down three job offers since he left United. 'I'm a good manager, see! '

I catch myself doing it sometimes in conversations - dropping in info about me doing well in my career so the other person knows I'm 'legit' - and I hate it in myself when I see it. I like Ole so much because he doesn't strike me as the type to feel he needs to do that.

Agree3 Disagree0

04 Feb 2019 11:45:02
He is just bitter, he has a huge ego and has a chip on his shoulder about not being offered "top jobs", even though he has struggled at ever club he has managed.

I agree to an extent that any manager coming in would have to an extent lifted the cloud over the club and we would have seen an upturn in performances. Yet for me the real key is the results and the tactics. Not only are we playing with more freedom, we are playing to our strengths as well.

I've not seen anything from Ince during his managerial career to suggest he has the tactical nuances in his locker to get the results in unfavourable circumstances.

Agree6 Disagree0

04 Feb 2019 12:38:28
He's a total twonk.

Most managers could've come in and made an improvement. However I suspect that Ince wouldn't have been one of those.

Ince has done nothing but bad mouth the club for years. He burned his bridges when he signed for them. Glaring example of his twonkiness. Since then he's done nothing but turn the fans against him. Decent player, bad manager, shocking pundit.

Agree4 Disagree0

04 Feb 2019 14:32:55
Ince is an empty vessel making noise.
He has zero credability when it comes to football management.
He is an absolute arse.

Agree2 Disagree0

04 Feb 2019 15:11:23
Ince is one of those old school players that thinks the modern game owes them something. If ýou watch him on MoTD he is constantly making mistakes in his punditry. When commenting on the United v Leicester game when Leicester starting brightly and had a few chances in the second half, he commented that they started the game wonderfully until Gabby Logan pointed out it was the second half. The devil is in the details and he doesn't pay attention.

He hasn't got an eye for detail. If he was smart he would have started off coaching somewhere instead of moaning about not getting a job.

He gave his son some awful advice too and he doesn't seem like he's a student of the game. If he thinks what Ole has done was easy then he's even more deluded than I thought.

Agree5 Disagree0

04 Feb 2019 16:05:17
The joy in his reaction to scoring against us for Liverpool, should answer the question.

Agree2 Disagree0

04 Feb 2019 17:34:26
I said before he’s ‘making a part of himself’

We all know I meant pratt.

Everything is easier with the benefit of hindsight. Ole is in the hot seat and doing the business, something Ince has demonstrated a number of times that he’s unable to do. Pratt.

04 Feb 2019 18:58:49
He could have been a legend at United but his attitude got him moved out and he’s been a prat ever since.

What a great article Ed.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading every word of it.
It read a pretty unbiased article and I totally agree with the part about SG being strong physically ending with Scholes being technically sound.
Pls keeps us entertained with such unbiased and good posts. Well done Ed. 👍👏.

Yeah great read ed001. You had me, thought you were going for a final determination of who was the best.

But your conclusion is probably the best. 3 great midfielders.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - that was supposed to be the plan, but I can never choose between them without it being purely about bias. That was the problem I had when I sat down to compare them, each time one had an edge in one part of the game, another had an edge in another and the third would have an edge somewhere else. I thought it might give me an answer setting it out like this but it actually muddled my choice even more!}

04 Feb 2019 17:47:10
Good read Ed001 - a very thorough comparison.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - thank you mate. I just have to decide which two (or more) people to compare next.}

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - no mate, never, I just really can't choose between them no matter how many times I am asked. None of them were as good as Xabi Alonso though ;-)

04 Feb 2019 21:06:01
Irrespective of who was the best player, they were all true pros who were committed to their clubs. It’s a shame that they seem to be something of a rarity nowadays. I read Carrick's book about the standards at United, and Crouch’s about the same at Liverpool, those one club men were the benchmark the others had to live up to.

Even as a United fan I can’t pick the best player from them, Lamoards goal record was phenomenal and Gerrard carried that Liverpool team for years. Scholes was surrounded by great players but he still looked incredible. Such a shame we couldn’t get the 3 of them into the same England team.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - England were badly mismanaged as the 3 should have been a great trio to work with.}

04 Feb 2019 21:38:55
Nice read Ed. I know you can't split them.

But out of the 3 attributes which would you prefer in your team?

Physicality
Mentality
Technicality.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it really depends on many things. I mean the team around them, the style of play, the league you are competing in etc. Mentality is probably the most important of the lot though, but you might have that already in the team and so need a technical player or someone to drive with the ball etc.}

04 Feb 2019 23:33:02
It's ok, Ed001. We all know you thought it was Scholes.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - erm no.}

04 Feb 2019 23:43:45
In the current Liverpool side I should have added ed sorry.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - for the midfield I would say technicality is the one most needed right now.}
