So local TV in Liverpool saying it's agreed, Sanchez plus £60m for Suarez. In reality it's just £59.4m. Are they purposely trying to wind-up the Liverpool fans on Merseyside?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I believe its a wind up syd
Tv and a website reporting 75million will be met, we shall see

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 05:44:49
I think it 54 plus Sanchez or 75 single

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Why not be bold and include a currency? Make up your own like you are the numbers.}

CTR, wouldn't it be €75m cash, or €35m cash plus Sanchez? If in fact the €75m figure being accurate in the first place.

So many rumours, who knows which ones have legs? Never rated Di Maria so hopefully not him

Anyway, off to see Jesse J at Delamere tomorrow, Syd could you recommend a nice wine I could take?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

When I was a wee lad I drank four bottles of Blue Nun. So the wine of the day today is Blue Nun, enjoy!

Agree0 Disagree0

If you have to sit through that drivel, i'd suggest a few litres of buckfast. At least that gives you some chance of getting unconscious for the worst of it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Blue Nun, now there's a blast from the past. I'm with Syd, go for the Blue Nun. Its really cheap too. But then, its not about the money, money. Forget about the price tag ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Watching that sh*te you need a few big bottles of 20/20 if you can't get that then Absynthe will work a treat :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

If you are looking for a wine that is "up-front" you should visit your local supermarket for an Australian or Chilean "Cabernet Sauvignon". Your can get really good value. Personally, I prefer a Pinot Noir from New Zealand. If a white wine is your preference, aim for a Chardonnay, again from the New World, which won't be as dry as a Sauvignon Blanc, or possibly a Pinot Gris from Italy.
Enjoy!

Paul weller tonight there the king of mod! Well in the eighties and nineties anyway and after the jam decided they were not a punk band . Anyway weller is still great and he was in the forest tonight!

Agree0 Disagree0

Drink something decent ajh I wouldn't brush my teeth with blue nun :) take an umbrella as well peeing down in manchester all evening hope its dryer for you tommorow

Agree0 Disagree0

Thunderbird ;)
If they still make it. Lethal. But a nice anaesthetic.

Agree0 Disagree0

John, I was 14 and I wouldn't drink it again. Four bottles for a tenner and I was mashed that night.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gents, I was being a tad flippant. The only thing I drink is red wine so if you need any recommendations, I'm your man

Agree0 Disagree0

AJH, surely you weren't messing again? I was going to suggest Pinot Grigio, but someone would probably say they watch a lot of Italian football and Mr Grigio is "just what we need"!

I can see myself and many others getting our hopes up over Vidal, for it to be shattered. In my heart of hearts I know we aren't getting Vidal but I just can't help myself.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

As an overall package he may be a little too expensive mate. I think Carvalho is more likely, would love Hummels.

Hummels - Carvalho - Sanchez.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney.
Let's not be greedy! Two out of the three would be fantastic. Hummels played well today and I've already compared Vidal to Keane.
Red Setter

Agree0 Disagree0

Different types of player really . Vidal box to box . The other guy box mainly the one he defends. How many times do people have to point this out .just got bored with reading the same thing sorry .

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 01:51:08
Completely agree, but he would be our holy grail. Can't see our chances of those three being high Syd bud, would love Hummels mind.

If what 002 says re. Griezmann comes to materialising, he would be a very good alternative to Sanchez/Di Maria. I feel like a winger will be signed as I think LvG wants that Robben-like role to be played in his system. Valencia just isn't dangerous enough, Januzaj isn't pacey enough.

We need an alternative in our game, somebody to set down the line who isn't one dimensional, somebody like Griezmann would be perfect. Still think Iturbe should be looked at though.

Agree0 Disagree0

MPez, I think they are the only three we need mate. Them three plus Shaw & Herrera and we will be challenging for the title next season. But I agree, those three would be unlikely. Perhaps 2/3 wouldn't be so bad. According to Meatloaf.

Hey guys,
Well a hell of a lot of rumours going round atm, will be di Maria? Will it be robben?

But more importantly i'm going fishing tomorrow, what bait would I use Syd to land carp?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Bread, can't go wrong with some bread mate :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't need bait mate. After what he had for tea tonight just take Syd with you. Stick his arse in the water and those little fishies will be floating to the surface :)

Failing that, have you ever tried sweet corn? Used to work quite well for me, though that was for Roach, Rudd, Perch etc rather than Carp.

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd can you be more specific, do carp prefer brown or white.

Cheese & Onion naan bread Carloto :)

Seems we could be involved in a transfer merry go round. Juventus need to see Vidal to us so they can buy Sanchez. Madrid need to offload Di Maria to get Rodriguez. If we could get those two it would be the clubs greatest ever window. Add to that Vermaelen and maybe William Carvalho. Wow.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Wow! Fresh you don't half get excited about internet rumours.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2014 20:40:24
Fresh I can't see us buying both Vidal and Carvalho but I agree Di Maria, Vidal and Vermaelin will give us a very strong chance of winning back the league.

Agree0 Disagree0

Come on Fresh, it's not paging to happen. We aren't going to sign 6 1st teasers n 1 window and tbh, I'm not sure we hold. 4 would be perfect as the existing players will also raise their game. However, we should sell Rooney, obviously

Agree0 Disagree0

I have a bad feeling Pogba will go to Chelsea! Also that is a lot of money I really can't see us spending. I hope I'm wrong tho! I'd be more than happy with a cb and another cm that would represent a great window for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2014 21:16:32
I think Fresh might just be that little boy inside of RVP ;) With all that giddiness and optimism

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2014 17:48:25
A lot of people talking about potential targets for the left wing and although I wouldn't be unhappy with a Sanchez, Di Maria, Greizmann, Depay; I would prefer that we continue with our current set of wingers until January and make a substantial bid for Marco Reus. We know that interest was there from us before his injury, so my question to everybody is would you be happy to see that happen?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Reus will be moving to Barcelona at some point over the next month.

Agree0 Disagree0

When did you speak to reus redseven?

Agree0 Disagree0

R7, I think so too, but their is a betting firm that has him at 12/1 to join Barcelona. Got to be worth a tenner hasn't it?

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2014 17:34:51
Can't stop thinking if we could get Sanchez, Di Maria, Vidal & Hummels it would be the best window imaginable. Would solve 95% of our problems and if we possibly throw in De Virj or Martins Indi then the job would be complete for a while. Optimistic I know, but just have a feeling something amazing might just happen.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

04 Jul 2014 18:02:49
People from the other sites are going to come on here and laugh at this. I would bet my left and right nut that we don't sign all of those players.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't get your hopes up, we'd be lucky to get 1 of those

Agree0 Disagree0

If we could get all them I'd honestly do a streak at OT. Look out for a shaven headed fella with a hairy ass.

Agree0 Disagree0

You really need to set your expectations higher bro, why today alone, we have signed Vidal, Sanchez, Carvallho, Di Maria, Hummels, Depay, Cuadrado and James really sad we missed out on Griezmann but an average window I guess.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't want both di Maria and Sanchez I'd prefer Sanchez for r.w
And januzaj on the left

Agree0 Disagree0

And I thought fresh was delusional!

Agree0 Disagree0

Not being delusional, I am a realist and know it is unlikely. However I, like you all are entitled to my opinion. We are going to spend big, so just put my thoughts out there.

Not only did he get to watch every game for 20 odd years he gets to retire at 50.

If Vidal is available and if Vidal is willing to come to United, then there really shouldn't be any ifs about it.Go and get him! In the event that United learn that a deal can not be struck, it would be in the club's best interest to make a call to a journo to kill the rumor. Because if this rumor persist, and United spend big on somebody like Carvalho, fans are going to be disillusioned again!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2014 15:40:16
What we need in the side is PACE. The game has become more athletic, and playing with pace is in the blood of Manchester United. It is our tradition to attack relentlessly.

Spain went out because they were too slow. Germany have struggled when they play Ozil and Gotze on the wings. Same with France when both Benzema and Giroud play in a 4-3-3.

We need pace on the wings, in the back, and though the middle to a degree. Pace at center back will allow us to play a high line. Shaw instead of Evra is an improvement. Herrera at CM even more.

Mata or Kagawa for example, themselves not the fastest, have the quick minds to take advantage of openings in a quicker game. Same with Rooney and Van Persie.

Still hoping for Carvalho and/or Vidal, but we MUST get one of Sanchez, Cuadrado, or Di Maria. We need to get back to playing the Manchester United way, with wingers who terrify the opposition. Hope by summer's end we will be lining up with one of these guys on one flank and Januzaj on the other.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Exactly! But other areas are in need of major reinforcement before we concentrate in attack. So I would love some pacy addition but only if midfield and defense are properly sorted

Agree0 Disagree0

We should give Usain Bolt a call

Agree0 Disagree0

I would prefer HALE instead! ;)

Watch Cuadrado today, guys. I hope he shines today on the big stage. I love the energy he plays with. It will be interesting in a game of this magnitude to see whether he shows the same fearlessness, or picks his spots. Hopefully some of both in the right measure.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't think Cuadrado played very well today
Red Setter

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't believe Fernandinho fouled James Rodriguez EIGHT times and didn't receive a yellow card. FIFA doing their best to try and let Brazil win the WC. With no Neymar or Thiago Silva for the Germany game, I fancy Germany.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - was it really just eight times? It looked like a lot more! I have to have it to Rodriguez, he did very well to not end up getting sent off for losing his temper. I do agree on Brazil though, I said from the start, there is no way Brazil will be allowed to do anything but win, it would cause too many problems in the country. They are already rioting in the streets and being shot at by police, can you imagine the riots if Brazil lose?? Even if Brazil have to find another ten pub players, along with Fred, who has to have come from a pub league, they will not be allowed to lose imo.}

001/002, you may want to delete my last post. I don't want this site getting closed down :)

If Woodward could pull off the Vidal signing. and I am trying to ignore all Internet paper talk as not wanting to get hopes up.then I would say he has done his job regardless of the rest of the window.
That would be 3 superb additions. the rest would be icing on the cake.
That said don't rest ed. keep going

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Right now, If we sign only Vidal and Hummels . I would be more than happy. Then we can buy pacy wingers in next window

Not utd related but how inflated transfer market is £18m bid for lovren from liverpool rejected

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not interested in Liverpool at all.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2014 15:58:09
I've got a better example for you:Buttner leaving for a fee potentially rising to 7 mil ;)

I'm not a numbers guy so maybe one of the guys can add some insight on this, but I don't think it makes much difference as long as the inflation is is totally across the spectrum. Bigger numbers yes,but same profit margins. Back in the day player X would of cost you 5 million and if he did well his value increased to 15 million. In today's market it's just bigger numbers,20 million Increasing to 60.

Agree0 Disagree0

Southampton is becoming Liverpool's youth academy

Agree0 Disagree0

Lovren.is a top CB, waa hoping for a.while wewould sign him. Was very.surprised united have shown interest

Agree0 Disagree0

Al, a couple of months ago Lambert was a decent striker, Liverpool fans would have bantered with Saints fans calling him average, now he's world-class. A couple months ago Lovren was a good defender, now he's world-class.

WHY? Because Liverpool are signing them :)

Remember when Coates was the bees knees? Aspas, Assaidi, Borini etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney
Yet again you include.me in false statements. Not once have I said lambert is worldclass, I not keen on his signing but I support him. There have been a few signings over the past 2 years I have been dissapointed with but as a supporter you get on with it.
And lovren is top drawer and btw barca are keen on him as too arsenal so he is not 100% Liverpool bound.
I say it how it is

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2014 17:38:56
Al it just so happens u only ever say it how it is about a player linked strongly with Liverpool! How did Lallana do at the world cup ill give u that u called it bang on again! How long is it till he gets his award for best player at the world cup?

Agree0 Disagree0

I have to say that I rate Lovren highly. He's a very good CB who, at only 24, could play at a top level club for 10 years. I even had an argument with a Liverpool fan on Twitter who said he wasn't good enough and they would be laughing stocks if they paid anything over £15million. I rate him so £18-20million is a deal that would suit both Southampton AND Liverpool.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry Al, I couldn't resist :)

I know you are one of the good ones bud.

Agree0 Disagree0

CTR is replied to your lallana post which was last weeks news and it wasnt posted.
I said If lallana had played he would have been englands star performer. he's a class above the majority of the england squad as a pure footballer. He got spare minutes on the field and was deployed left and always tracking back and players couldn't string a decent pass to him when he was further up the pitch. I won't be explaining again because I cba repeating myself to fantasy fans

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2014 20:59:03
Right, so if Lallana had played england would of done better?

Agree0 Disagree0

Al, £59.4m. Not quite the £50m plus Sanchez & Pedro that Liverpool fans were expecting. Then consider 5% goes to the player, then Ajax are due a cut. Might be enough left for a loaf of bread :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd, stop. Blushing here
CTR, in reply to your last question no actully. England is absymal from personel to management( especially). Look at ronaldo for example( no comparisons) did he excel in that team? No. saying that.roys tactics to sit back and.let a35 year old pirlo dictate play sums up woy.
Its all about opinions mate, fans are always bias of rival's players. Btw, I was gutted when.united signed hererra. He is suited to the PL to a T. His best position which jas been debated is a.no10 no question but I imagine he will be playing that central midfield role. Terrific player

guys I have a question to ask, Out of Di maria and Sanchez which one would suit our play and why?

Id prefer Sanchez because he's fast, tricky and a good shot on him and is a bit more consistent.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not only would Sanchez suit us better, I feel he is far better equipped than DiMaria for English football in general. He is physically stronger and works harder for his team.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sanchez is the better player slightly and more of a modern day winger. But di maria will always put a shift in would probably suit us better as he's up and down and puts balls in the box.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with Betty

Agree0 Disagree0

A very difficult question. Both I think have the attributes - both very pacey, skillfull and score goals. Sanchez is better from the right whilst Di Maria prefers the left and he has the added bonus of playing in CM very well.

For me, I'd take Di Maria for his versatility. But then again, I'd take Sanchez too haha.

In an ideal world we would get both either side of RVP with Mata behind. That would be scary.

Agree0 Disagree0

DiMaria or Sanchez. Sanchez 7 days a week

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks for the reply guys, some well thought out observations.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Sanchez is better in the final third, both his off ball movement and finishing.
Di Maria is impressive with the amount of ground he covers, what an engine! His final ball is inconsistent, and he could frustrate teammates in that regard.
Either one would be a great addition, but if I had to choose, Sanchez.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sanchez 100% - Di Maria would turn our wings from a 4 to a 6. Sanchez a 4 -9.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would toss a coin :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I think Di Maria is a fancier version of Ashley Young. Not in terms of quality as Di Maria is clearly the better player but he is inconsistent, lightweight and predictable on the ball. So I'd have to say Sanchez forever and a day.

Agree0 Disagree0

TK, completely agree, I've never understood why he is rated so highly.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2014 11:13:54
Okay more of an opinions post here folks! Out of the 3 forwards were continually linked with. Di Maria, Sanchez and Memphis who do you think is most likely? Also with juves interest in Evra. Could this put us back in for blind? He could play mf and cover shaw at lb possibly saving some money this summer as I don't see vidal coming. And lastly if chelsea came back in for rooney would anyone else be happy with lukaka in a px. Pie in the sky really but i'd go for it.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would sell Rooney in a heartbeat. From a footballing perspective he has not been the same player since he had his first contract renewal under SAF. We are paying the same wages as the likes of Zlatan, Cristiano and Messi and yet is nowhere near their level. However I can only think that commercially he is worth an awful lot to the club. So until we get a player with that "Star" quality I think Rooney will stay.

Out of the three, I think Sanchez will go to Arsenal and it looks as though we are in for Di Maria if reports are to be believed. I would welcome this and think it would work under Van Gaal because Di Maria works so hard for 90 mins. Yes he might be a bit inconsistent, but then LVG played Dirk Kuyt for Netherlands because he is a workhorse.
Id take both Blind and Depay as back up for Shaw/Di Maria and then Memphis for Nani or Valencia.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2014 12:28:18
Zatlan is very overrated imo. Certainly not up their with the best in the world and the only thing bigger than his ego is his nose. P.s I don't think Blind would do so well at left back in the PL, far too slow.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh no, someone has mentioned the R word in a less than complimentary way, I can see a debate starting yet again.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ste. Zlatan's goals scoring record is as good as most - he is a top player, just a bit of an arse.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2014 13:21:26
Sambo2.

Memphis & Depay are the same player.

His name is Memphis Depay

Agree0 Disagree0

Harry, That one I know.

I just used both names.

I was being clever! But obviously to clever! :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Depay needs to show a lot more before being compared to Sanchez, Di Maria, or Cuadrado (my addition :). Sanchez, we've been hearing about Arsenal, Juventus, and Liverpool. Di Maria, PSG and Monaco.
Blind seems a decent player, and versatile, two nice assists v Spain, but I'm not sure he is quick enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

Would lover the scousers to buy Rooney he is just what they need.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with fresh.zlatan is very arrogant and outspoken and that can rub a lot of people up the wrong way but you can't deny when needed he usually delivers the goals in big games. Players who consistently do that are world class in my opinion (messi at this world cup a perfect example).

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2014 10:25:20
As much as I love the World Cup in general, and this one has been tremendous, I can't wait for the new season to kick off. I think we will have all signings in place for the opening game, ready to make a massive assault on the chase for top four.

Come on United!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm not disagreeing with you because your post is realistic, but it shows how far we have fallen in such a short period of time. Less than 12 months ago we would be going into a new season expecting to win the league, or at least be challenging very closely. Here we are 11 months later hoping to challenge for top 4.
Only one word can account for that rapid fall, and that is complacency.
I know many will rightly say we have been in decline for a few years, and that is true. But our (SAF) ability to grind out results, and win games that we had no right to win lead the club to become complacent. I think everyone assumes that once SAF retired, it would be business as usual, and we would carry on lifting the trophies. How wrong they all were.
I am sure many will reply and say that our decline is all down to the owners and their lack of investment, but there is so much more to it than that. Yes, we should probably have tried harder to sign the "big" names, and therefore pay bigger transfer fees. But money has been spent, but in most cases it has been spent very badly ie the failure to sign a midfielder since 2007/08, while wasting money on wingers.
Our scouting has been very poor, and with a few exceptions, I personally think player development has been very poor too. How many of our promising young players have actually made the grade? The answer is not enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2014 09:02:04
Hi all,
Firstly a HUGE thanks to the Eds for the info as and when they can give it.
Secondly, clearly the two signings so far will make a difference to us next year, here are a few rumours circulating and thoughts of my own, would love to hear others thoughts:

Fellaini: I say keep him. If he is happy to 'warm the bench' for us I say its worth having something a bit different. He has made a difference to Belgium when he has come on during the WC playing in a more Everton familiar role.

Vidal: Ed002 has explained the situation on many occasions but how great would it be to see him in a United shirt next year?! Is it at all possible that a Evra + Nani + Cash deal for Vidal could be struck?

Di Maria: I would absolutely LOVE it if we signed this young man. He has gone up a notch since playing under Carlo and he could give us that little bit extra moving forward. 40 million in today's market is probably just over the odds but not by much.

Sanchez: I struggle to see where Sanchez fits into out team next year with what's happened and what is potentially going to happen. I think he is Arsenal/Liverpool bound myself.

TC all.

KingGiggsy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Your point about Fellaini is a good one, but at Man Utd, there are too many better players to play up front or off the striker before Fellaini would get minutes there.

Not a bad idea about Vidal, I do think Juventus want a winger, and Evra may be a good option for them in the slower Serie A, as a wingback in their 3-5-2.

Sanchez can play on either wing. And both Sanchez or Di Maria have a great work rate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sell Fellaini and buy Vidal or Carvalho.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney!
Do you think there are enough buyers for wiggy in about suitable price range?

Agree0 Disagree0

I would sell him for £12m tomorrow.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think WHU, Everton & QPR would take him for around the £12m mark. The London clubs would even pay his salary no problem. But would Fellaini want to go to these clubs? Unlikely.

There will certainly be European clubs interested at a price. Italian clubs would like this type of player. He doesn't suit the Spanish league IMO. French teams bar Monaco and PSG couldn't afford him.

Someone like Schalke could be interested, I think Bundesliga would suit him.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can see Newcastle going for him £15mil.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't see Everton and QPR going for him.And WHU? no idea

Betty,

didn't take offence at all, didn't know the question would cause such a stir.

Agree0 Disagree0

I dislike the lot of you, I only come on here because it makes me appreciate that I was born me and not one of you lot. I'm especially glad I am not one of Syd's family members after he has his vindaloo with madras rice and a cheese n onion naan. Dear god!

Agree0 Disagree0

OMG! Sydney is having Chicken tikka for tea . Your a$$ is going to burn during poop time :)

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm used to it lads. I was eaten Phalls, but I personally prefer the vindaloo taste. Don't forget I grow Ghost Chillies :)

Agree0 Disagree0

That's proper mans food Syd. I prefer a Chicken Jalfrezi with vegetable rice and a Keema naan myself. Maybe a chicken chat puree to start. Always a good idea to put a toilet roll in the fridge before hand too.

Agree0 Disagree0

Breandan, sorry mate I didn't realise that "tw@t" was offensive. I though it was just someone that uses twitter. lol

I thought that referring Man Utd with term ManU is kind of insult to our club, but I see lots of post here where ManU is used. Isn't it something that should be noted?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Never bothered me tbh, don't see the problem. Being called a 'Franchise' is a bit annoying though, we may be owned by yanks but we are in Manchester England not Manchester U.S.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2014 08:42:19
Srestha, you're right, it is insulting, but I can honestly say, in the few years that I've been using this site, that I've seen 'ManU' used by United fans maybe only a handful of times, and it was only because they were either young or foreign, and didn't realise the implication.

If it's used other times, I'd guess it's by other teams' fans on here, most of whom have no idea that we find the phrase distasteful.

Don't worry too much about it, I don't think anybody actually uses the phrase to deliberately cause offence.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - if it was believed to be intended to be disrespectful, we would delete it. Unfortunately, the club itself has used the name during the flotation, as the shorthand for their listing. So it has meant we have had to accept it as a shortened name for Manchester United. Poor Ed004 has spent months on here explaining why it shouldn't be used, then they go and do that! You would think Prem clubs no longer care about the fans or something.....}

04 Jul 2014 08:49:48
On here any posts that said ManU were removed or changed a while ago, but when the club listed on the stock exchange they listed us as MANU, meaning our club call us that, so we don't really have much choice.

Correct me if I am wrong eds.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I just typed all that out myself before reading your post! I could have saved myself a lot of bother if I had just looked down the page. It is correct though. Annoying, but we have little choice now, even though Ed004 hates it.}

04 Jul 2014 09:38:56
Doing your job for you Ed ;)

Hate it myself, other clubs fans always call us ManU or just as bad for me 'The Mancs'. I don't even think most of them realise the connotations of ManU to be honest and just do it because that's what they have always done / parents did it etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - obviously even within the club they don't realise! I couldn't believe they floated it with that name after all the months of Ed004 repeatedly moaning to the rest of us on our editor's widget about people using it. Just shows how out of touch football clubs are these days.}

I never use it as I've been told it's offensive, but why is that?

Agree0 Disagree0

Forgive my ignorance, but why is ManU considered as an insult?

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2014 11:58:35
It was used in an old Munich song, lads, Don't know which teams fan's started it, but I'm with Ed04 - was just brought up associating it with people mocking the dead.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just wanted to say that I meant it didn't bother me when United fans use ManU, not when others use it in an offensive manner.

Agree0 Disagree0

When ever coming into contact with new people for the first time and the topic turns to football and I ask them who they support and the moment they say MANU I just instantly tag them as a typical plastic fan, never go to old trafford, think there man utds biggest fans because they buy the kit before everyone else, cheer the loudest in pubs when there's a goal but are actually playing on a slot machine at the time and didn't even see the goal. first to slag the team and call some of our own players worse that s****. grrrrrrrrr I hate them fans.

Agree0 Disagree0

Believe/RedDub, it was used in songs after the Munich disaster that were hugely offensive and sung by human beings who were no better than the dog sh*t on the bottom of your shoe.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pretty sure it was people associated with the mighty West Brom that first used it in an insulting way StevieK.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not sure if he Eds will post the reason why it is seen as offensive, but it is because rival fans use is as part of a "song" about the Munich air disaster.
Google it for a full explanation.

Agree0 Disagree0

Also there is only one UNITED!

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2014 14:31:04
I heard its about like you said mocking the dead after the munich disaster, and from what I've been told its LFC fans that started with singing Manu manu it comes from manure and all the can is crash or something like that and that is one of the reasons why Manutd and LFC fans hate each other so much.

Brendan - West Brom?? What the feck did we ever do to West Brom??

I'll take your word for it, mostly because I can't be ar$ed googling it :)

My money would have been on Leeds at that time, but there you go.

West Brom, eh? Hope they get relegated next season now.

stretfordender, are you around 40, living with your mum outside OT, and do you own a slightly tight round the middle Joy Division t-shirt and yellow and brown y-fronts? Is your bedroom untidy?

I'm only asking, mate, because that post reminded me of someone we all miss on here.

Agree0 Disagree0

They were a bit further up the league back in the 50's I think Stevie, it is a strange one though yeah. I remember my mates grandad telling us about it when we were younger, along with his Busby Babes and Duncan Edwards stories.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the biggest reason for us not to use use ManU is because when our busby babes died in munich disaster, Leeds and Liverpool fan slanged us singing "ManU ManU went on the plane, ManU ManU never came back" and blah blah. They created a song making joke of our dead players. How often do you find people joking or making fun of dead people? It is shame to humanity. Hence ManU is not used by United fans and further Liverpool are always considered not only as rivals but as enemies.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - wrong, it was West Brom fans that created the song.}

Correct 001, it was the West Brom fans who created that song. Disgusting!

Agree0 Disagree0

Sure I already said that

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2014 18:24:09
Doesn't it make more sense to 'reclaim' the ManU term, especially as it is already being used in an official financial context by the club? At least that way it can't really be used in a negative way against the club.
Kind of makes sense to me.

Agree0 Disagree0

Steviek I have no idea if you are offended by what I wrote and are being funny here or you are being serious in you're question, either way i'm nowhere near 40, don't have a joy division t-shirt and I most certainly don't own a pair of y fronts .sorry if that disopoints :-)

a question for ed!
I know u have heard it many time .I thought I would get help form search but I was unable.
So my question is that is there by any chance that Man Utd are going to bid for Vidal or any top midfielder? or is it just some speculation?

Thank you

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Done to death.}

Ed has said that basically Juve want to keep Vidal. They would be willing to part with Pogba so that they could keep hold of Vidal, and this would also give them the funds fot their transfer targets, notably Sanchez.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think if Man Utd are interested in Vidal and are really pushing to get him then we will certainly get him. This may be the only window where we are very confident of getting the players that we are actually bidding for

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2014 06:43:48
I believe a lot of deals like up to 6 are being negotiated behind the scenes, don't be surprised Di Maria and Sanchez signing for us despite strong Arsenal links, now we are first sure to know if the player is interested and then agree terms with them b4 sending in an official bid to his club.Expect almost all deals being announced consecutively after the world cup, with Gaitan, Vermaelen, Vriij, Vidal, and Carlvaho . m

Believable0 Unbelievable0

04 Jul 2014 08:51:48
Wow Sanchez, Di Maria, Gaitan, Vidal, Carvalho, De Fridge and Vermaelen. So looking at about 220m + the 60m we already spent.

What a summer, I can't wait, I am almost 99% sure you are correct as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

Brilliant, can't wait, thanks for sharing. I'm assuming you are Ed Woodward in order to know all this?

Agree0 Disagree0

Cant wait for the end of the world cup now. will look forward to a week of consecutive announcements if those are the names we are certain on!
That is before the usual round of Ronaldo coming back to us.surely that will happen again?
