Ed, with Spurs very close to signing Joe Cole for £3m and the fact that they are very keen to buy Adam & Parker. Surely looking at these players spells the end for Modric?

Sydney! {Ed007's Note - I would like to think so Sydney, I personally wanted Sneijder so I am not going to say Modric was my first choice but I will be happy if we can get him}

Ashley Young is an OK player. But his level is at a 2nd tier or wannabe club like Villa, Spurs, Bolton, Fulham, Newcastle, Sunderland, Everton, Stoke, Arsenal, City or Liverpool. I say this with all due respect to the aforementioned clubs other than City and Liverpool. Would any of our peer group such as Barca, Madrid, Chelsea, Bayern or the Milan clubs consider that Young would improve their squad? I personally doubt it. He won't improve on Nani, Valencia and Park, and with Cleverley to come in, our money would be better spent eleswhere!

How much truth is there in the Barca/Sanchez bid? I have seen about the Juve interest then not interested then making a bid again but nothing on Barca.

If it is true then we have to seriously look at where we are trying to head with regards to winning another CL before Fergie retires.

We clearly need the CM sorted everyone knows this but our lack of effect of any wide men against Barca can surely highlight the need for another option on the wing. We know they will all play during the season being rotated but when it comes down to having to get past Barca again next year where are we going to have improved? Ashley Young? Haha we would need the biggest strokes of luck and at least 2 Massive CM signings to even stand a chance of competing if they end up with Sanchez and we get Young.

Dont get me wrong im not saying we need to sign everyone Barca are interested in but this guy and any world class CM's that could work for us we really need to be competing at least. Im not going to be happy if we get the usual 1 week after he has gone then Fergie comes out with "aww well we made a bid but he wanted spain" or whatever. We know he is a Utd fan and we could easily match anything Barca could offer so there would be no excuses.

If it turns out we were never interested in even bidding then again we have to look at ourselves and wonder where are we going? We have the squad to compete in the league but we should be lookng to add the quality to move us up a level. We lack quality in depth in the wings since Giggsy moved and last season highlighted that with an unfortunate injury and Park away Nani ended up goosed by the start of April. Obertan, Bebe (just now), Rooney, Fletcher or whoever we use there instead of an actual top quality winger is weakening the team.

We all have our opinion and this is mine. We should go for him irrelivent of the price. Top quality costs top dollar and if the Glaziers are the ones putting the brakes on this then im joining RFT's bandwagon.

Im sure we were all proud we got to the final last year and it was a great achievement but if we are being honest we were absolutely trounced by a technically better team. Those stats for any Utd team were embarassing and we didn't set out to play defensivly we were just made to.

So the additions to the squad this summer were always going to have to be top quality with VDS + Scholes retiring and Hargo going.

With £20mish on De Gea, up to £5m on Varane, that's our normal £20m a season from the Glaziers gone but we have the massive cash reserves, the money generated from any sales that may occur (roughly £20m) and the £25m a year toward a marquee signing we were promised. So £30m on Sanchez, £14m on Vidal and £30m on Modric/Sneijder (my pref is still Hernanes at £22m) so total spend of £99m but with the £65m above taken into account only £34m of the cash reserves.

Will probably never happen but imo if it did we would be well up to competing with Barca!

Jono!

SAF has given up on Sneijder. Inter want £35m for him, Sneijder wants £150,000 a week wages. This works out at £95m over 5 years. United cannot afford this.

Instead, SAF will go for Modric for a fee of £25m and £90,000 a week wages (double his spurs wages).
**************

With respect to you sir. £35mil + £150,000 per week over five years equals £74mil by my humble calculations. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Regardless of our maths we at least agree Modric is the better option even if we arrive at this conclusion by different criteria.

Respectfully yours.

I can confirm from a source within the stock market (as an plc they have to share information regarding money etc with the stocks & shares people), that UNITED HAVE DEALS IN PLACE TO SIGN LUKA MODRIC FOR £22 MILLION & ASHLEY YOUNG FOR £12 MILLION. These deals will be announced towards the end of this month.

I shall post more transfer deals as they happen.

#44TH44

- ED Why do you think we are signing Young?? As a squad player or will Nani be on his way. .not sure how he would fit into the first 11 otherwise (Valencias place is cemented surely and theres no room behind the striker as hes been playing for England cos Rooneys there)?!?!?

Moz {Ed007's Note - I have been told that Young is coming to Man Utd and that Nani could be going to Juventus. Thiese aren't certainties, I am only passing on what I have been told by a very good source. Ed002 had a discussion about it last week. Believe me this is not what I want as a Utd fan, so it's not something I would just make up to you guys. If I don't know something I will say or will try to find out if possible}

United aren't a PLC and haven't been for 5 years. If you want to make up imaginary 'contacts' at least do some basic homework.

Rumours i've heard are that Young is being used as a backup option in case we don't get our number 1 target. The papers have us heavily linked with Sanchez because of previous interest but Douglas Costa may come into the frame. The Sneijder rumours are just that, Modric or Gourcuff are more likely. We may move for Benzema if Madrid decide what they want to do but only if we can get good money for Berbatov. Lastly, anyone imagining £100m transfer giddyness is a fool, money will be spent but not on a silly scale.

United are no longer a PLC. As you might recall, they were bought by the Glazers about 6 years ago. No details are required as would be for a PLC listed on the exchange.

Modric is high up the wanted list. I've been told that he's probably not no.1 priority though.
As I've said before, around 5 meetings between modric & united altogether over approx the last 18 months. He is a quite humble chap though who doesn't really want to rock the boat.
I hope it happens. . . and by the way he is on about 60k basic and not 45k as been suggested, but we could still improve on that.
Personally I think Diego is worth a shot, possibly get him for 10-15 million, still only 26ish and would be superb at the right club.
Hey, maybe get modric & Diego.

He was the only player who could have replaced Ronaldo on the wing. .He had that "Ronaldo Factor". As of today there is no bid from united. SAF is still keen to get this lad, lets see how they react on this.

How were Wilshere, Rodwell, Milner, Rooney, Walcott and many others ready at 16-17-18 dude??

Its about giving them an opportunity,
its a shame that United wait until good talented players turn 19-20 before we give them a chance. .

Cleverley, Welbeck are 21-22 and havent really played for United, its only this year that they will get their chance, if this pattern continues we may well have to wait 3-4 years to see POGBA, MORRISON, KEANE and TUNNICLIFFE play. .

ok lads ive heard enough talk about sanchez, seriously guys the guy has alot of "potential" but hes not world class right now, if he came to utd it would take him a few years to really be a world class player who scores goals ect REGULARLY, i mean look at the guys goalscoring record, he would be another nani two years ago, he will maybe be a great player in 2-3 years but as for right now extremely overpriced. After seeing that barca game we really need 2-3 players that are world class right now. Again ashley young is a good player who i actually like but hes hardly messi is he?
I think the best option we have in that respect is neymar, who ever signs that guy is gonna have a naturally gifted football to rival messi he playes lw at mid and cf we need to enter that race even if it breaks the bank.
I also think sniejder or modric preferably sneijder would also be a fantastic asset, a player who in my opinion is the best replacement were gonna get for scholes.
These are the only players who should be mentioned in the same sentence as utd. snejder, valbuena, modric, sweinstigier (weve got no chance but still) hazard, neymar, jovatic.

The journo is not a sports writer, but is a local news reporter. I didn't ask details so I don't know if it 20m pounds or euros, but he definately said 20m. There was some issue about a potential player swap and a mutual benefit for 2 or 3 of United's youngsters to get experience at PSV, but must be with a full-time United trainer/chaperone. I've never heard of Toivonen, and I don't take an interest in Dutch football, but I checked he is a PSV squad player according the PSV website, that's why I posted. Is he a good enough player for United to be interested in?

It's been bothering me all day, With the players we know to be leaving or suspect to be leaving we have to think about replacements, correct?

Well, heres my take on what could happen, should happen and what i'd like to see happen.

Leaving: Gary Neville
Realistic: Twins
Ideal: Twins
personal Preference: Twins.

Leaving: Edwin Van Der Sar
Realistic: David De Gea
Ideal: De Gea
Personal Preference: Akinfeev or Adler

Leaving: Paul Scholes
Realistic: Modric
Ideal: Modric
Personal Preference: Iniesta

Leaving: Dimitar Berbatov
Realistic: Welbeck or Diouf or Macheda
Ideal: Higuain
Personal Preference: Diouf

Leaving: Nani
Realistic: Young
Ideal: Sanchez
Personal Preference: Sanchez

Leaving: Owen Hargreaves
Realistic: Jack Rodwell
Ideal: Xabi Alonso
Personal Preference: Michael Essien

Leaving: Gibson
Realistic: Pogba
Ideal: James McCarthy
Personal Preference: Pogba

Leaving: Wayne Rooney
Realistic: Benzema
Ideal: Kun Aguero
Personal Preference: Kun Aguero

Obviously, I'm not saying any of the mentioned are leaving unless they've been confirmed to already, simply stating players who have been linked to leave, who they could be replaced by, who i'd like them to be replaced by and who would be perfect to replace them.
