How can the likes of DDG, Vidic, Jones, Fellaini, Carrick, Kagawa, Mata, Rooney, Van Persie & Adnan not be playing well together. Even if you filled in the gaps with U21 players, these players should be up there. How shot is our confidence?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think it's somewhere near rock bottom. Most of the players don't seem to want the ball and have been told at all costs get the ball wide. They aren't being given the freedom to express themselves. Its over hit pass out wide after over hit pass. Even with good signings in the summer I'm not sure Moyes is right for the job.

Agree0 Disagree0

Because
Fellaini and Mata have hardly played.
Kagawa has never really settled at united .
Vidic has his best years behind him and yet is still the best player in a poor back 4.
Carrick has been injured and is still the best cm in the squad although a 40 year old runs him close.
Rvp has struggled with injuries this season.
Average back 4
Average midfield.
We won't be up there until we spend big and improve the quality of the squad

Agree0 Disagree0

Freedom to express themselves? I'd concentrate first on being able to pass five yards to one of your teammates, and control a pass without taking two touches.

I don't care how shot your confidence is, that's basic stuff, rubbish tactics or not.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thats it Stevie.our dreadful season has absolutely nothing to do with Moyes.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney

I would suggest it is more about a lack of confidence in what they are being asked to do. It has made them sloppy and their concentration has been affected. Many banded the word believe about saying it was important (for the supporters) yet my suspicion is the players lack belief and that is a key ingredient. It will be very difficult to get back in present circumstances

Agree0 Disagree0

Devil, don't be flippant now.

Moyes wasn't even mentioned in the OP, so no need to make it about him - it was about the players and their confidence, or lack of it.

I also mentioned rubbish tactics, which I see you chose to ignore.

Agree0 Disagree0

What would SAF be able to do with these players at his disposal? My guess is he could do an awful lot more than Moyes is doing, more importantly he would get the best out of them all.

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd, Fergie was a one-off. Every new manager is going to lose out in comparison. Like I said before, I think he'd be ripping with the players for their lack of effort. That's not how he taught them, and I guess they'd get short shrift from him for using a change of manager as an excuse.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think SAF would have led and inspired them, they would have absolutely believed in what he was telling them to do. Another top manager would have the belief of the players and that is the difference. SAF would not have got to this point, nor would Mourinho, Ancelotti, Klopp etc because there would be trust that what they wanted to do would work, that they had the medals to show it worked and it would buy them the time. Moyes didn't and doesn't have it and it is a major issue.

These are two players we could of had for 27 million Moutinho and Strootman twice the player Fellani will ever be

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Moutinho was the player that I really wanted. And Strootman is proving himself and will probably be future Dutch captain. I will feel better if we get Kroos though.

Agree0 Disagree0

I really wanted Moutinho aswell and Strootman in my opinion will be a future Dutch captain

Agree0 Disagree0

Shaw is also a very realistic target

Agree0 Disagree0

Could have had James McCarthy for half the price of Fellaini

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree McCarthy is twice the player Cleverly is well better anyway

No DDG in the Spain squad. Ridiculous

If we can manage to win our next three fixtures and hope that Cardiff get something off pool then we would be going into the city game 5/6 points behind Liverpool. That would seem realistically close-able in the final 8 games if and it's a big if we can get the results we ought to be getting. Guess we will see in three weeks time but beating pool is a must in two weeks time.

On a much more important note - echoing all of the support to CTR and his family, hope everything is on the up.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Personally I think it will be a miracle, Liverpool are playing fantastically and we simply aren't. They deserve 4th and I think will get it. We will finish 5th above Spurs and Everton though I imagine.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fresh I think you may be being unfair on Liverpool there. I can see them finishing at least third.

5th is the best we can hope for and if we do qualify for the UEFA cup I hope we give it respect and try and win in.

Agree0 Disagree0

3rd is in their grasp as well yes I fully agree. It's between them and Arsenal to see who finishes the highest. We will do well to get 5th and topple Spurs - hopefully we go on to win the Europa League next season which would mean we have the Super Cup and automatic CL inclusion.

Agree0 Disagree0

Be better served concentrating on beating West Brom and stop getting ahead of yourselves and trying to predict what other teams are going to do. Your immediate challenge is to move from 7th to 6th don't you think?

Agree0 Disagree0

If all the players that will and should leave leave in the summer then there will be a chance for youth which I would like to see played in all competitions including the Europa League if we are in it to gain experience if noting else Johnston Varela Keane Blackett Powell Lingard Petrucci Pearson Wilson all deserve a chance

Agree0 Disagree0

Our collective focus on the West Brom game will make no difference to the teams result as we are not the players or the manager.

Agree0 Disagree0

We need to worry about building for next season now. We can only improve.

Agree0 Disagree0

Paddy,

I don't think all of the names you mentioned would get a chance. Powell, Lingard, Henriquez and Vermijl or Varela will get a chance this coming season - as well as possibly the Keane's.

Agree0 Disagree0

Liverpool have a pretty tough run in with home games against Chelsea, City and Tottenham. They have however been playing fearlessly and with enthusiasm. There is no reason why they should not be very competitive. The game against us could be very telling for them. If they win at OT they really will be flying high. Arsenal have away games at Spurs, Everton and Chelsea and home to Man City. City's and Chelsea's schedules look slightly easier. Right now I'd go for Chelsea, City, Liverpool and Arsenal but it's hard to call, and from a neutral point of view it's the best season for a long while.

Fellow United fans, I hate to say it, but I just don't see us catching anyone. Moyes may as well just drop the old ones and start working towards next season. He needs to be playing Kagawa, Mata, and Janusaj, together because they are the players who have the skills and movement to be effective. If it means alternating RVP and Rooney so be it, but either of them can play wider in a rotational system if necessary.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree we need to support the team but there's a line between being supportive and being delusional. We are nowhere near Top 4. To be blunt we are not Top 5 material and Everton will give us a run for our money for 6th.

No European games next year could be a blessing in disguise for a crack at the league. Just look at Liverpool.

As I've said before though we aren't winning anything under this manager. We need new players and better tactics.

What do people make of Gintner? Looks a good build and good on the ball, but error prone at this young age. Could you see him coming in the summer, not as the starting centre back we need, more of a signing for the future?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I fully expect us to sign an experienced CB and a youngster with potential. Only because Michael Keane is probably two years from being ready.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I would completely agree Syd.}

04 Mar 2014 18:22:04
With Smalling and Jones would we need yet another with potential. I think we just need an experienced head in, Garay for example and least the rest battle it out for the other starting place.

Agree0 Disagree0

Garay/Mangala and Gintner look good options.

Agree0 Disagree0

MrE, we are stretched even with Vidic and Ferdinand. There has been occasions when Carrick has had to step in and I will never forget the 3.0 Fulham defeat. If Keane was ready we would only need an experienced CB, but we are in a predicament with Keane not being ready and Vidic and Ferdinand leaving. We will need to buy a "Garay" and a "Gintner" IMO. Also by buying a RB and CM we will be better prepared for CB injuries as Smalling and Jones wouldn't need to fill in at RB and CM respectively.

Agree0 Disagree0

We do need more options at the back. You would think that with better cover at right back Smalling, Jones, Evans, and two more signings like Garay and Gintner would mean that less players are out of place.

Agree0 Disagree0

Garay is badly needed but I think he's all we need with civer at right back that can ocassionaly cover left and centre back if needed O Shea was that player and hasn't been really replaced De Sciglio Garay Kroos and Grizemann are realistic targets with Kroos being the most unlikely and another like Strootman to go with him

Agree0 Disagree0

I like Ginter and think he would be a good squad player now and a potential first choice in the future. He is good in the tackle and very composed on the ball. Also he has played as a DM as well as a CB but looks more at home in DM role than Jones.

Who does everyone think will the next player to come through thr under 21's squad? There's supposedly a few top player there at the moment! Also good luck Ctr! i'm sure the young red devil will pull through!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think we will see glimpses of William Keane, but I think his brother will have a longer career at MU.

Agree0 Disagree0

For me it will be Andres Pereira. Wilson also has a chance but there are a lot of players ahead of him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed, we may see more of Keane and Henriquez if Hernandez goes which is looking likely. Both will be good players. And I think Michael Keane will hold down a spot in the squad once Rio and Vida go.

Agree0 Disagree0

MU are hoping Michael Keane is used on a loan between now and May as often as possible. Keane playing well and getting enough experience could mean us not needing to buy a Ginter in the summer. This is the hold-up with him joining Blackburn. MU want assurances that he will play every game that he is fit. IMO Keane is still a full season away. Blackburn until the end of the season and an EPL move for next season would be great. The club could do with Keane being a year ahead of where he is or Vidic staying for one more season. Vidic has left a bit of a problem. Who will fill in for one year or will we be forced to sign two CB's? Or will Ferdinand stay one more year?

Agree0 Disagree0

Heard Wilson is being fast-tracked to the first team. Think pea is off and Henriquez will get another loan.

Agree0 Disagree0

Where did you hear that MrE? I can't see Wilson playing before Keane or Henriquez.

Agree0 Disagree0

MrE, Wilson is an exceptional talent. Has all the tools to succeed and I think him being fast-tracked is an excellent idea. I think sometimes players are held back and Adnan has proved that if players are given half a chance, they may not disappoint. Not all are like Kiko, some knuckle down and can succeed early on without suffering with big head syndrome. I do not know Wilson personally, but if he's being fast-tracked then he must be pretty sound and switched on.

You have to laugh at that supposed financial expert on Sky. Apparently Liverpool are in a strong financial position after making a £50m loss, yet in the summer he said MU are not. To anyone who knows anything about football finances would know that he is talking absolute bobbins. He also has a Scouse accent by the way :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Haha yeah I thought the same Sydney when I watched it but doesn't suprise me sky loves liverpool

Agree0 Disagree0

That's Sky and the tv that both love Liverpool. Can't watch MoTD due to their biased pundits.
In the short term the financial position of Manchester United is not an issue. The Glazers will want to protect their investment and the value of the club and so know that they are going to have to invest in the team this summer. Until Liverpool can get a stadium of 60,000 capacity they are going to be limited in what revenue they can mantain. Not building a new stadium at Stanley Park is very short sighted on their part.
Whether its with Moyes as manager or someone else we will be back in the mix within the next couple of seasons.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - What difference to income do you think Liverpool will get with an additional 15k seats then?}

Ed I know what you are driving at! 15k of additional seating might only bring in £500k per game and £10M additional per season in turnover. However if you have a modern state of the art stadium as well then it is easier to sell the brand as Utd have done and obtain a greater amount of sponsorship revenue. Also with the more modern stadiums (where the corners are filled in) they have more boxes built into the stadia for corporate hospitality, which although I don't particularly like, also generates additional income on matchdays than perhaps they currently obtain.
Some people forget that in the 70's and 80's Utd were not particularly successfull but they did spend money on their stadium while many other clubs didn't. Then during the 90's and the 00's Utd continued to spend and develop OT. The size and presence of the stadium now is a major selling point for the club and another reason why Utd have been able to maintain success on and off the pitch. It would be great if the South Stand could be redeveloped as per the North stand (as SAF wants) but the cost is estimated at about £100m due to the railway line and housing behind it. John Henry said that the atmosphere at Anfield is special and he doesn't want to lose that but that for me is not the real reason for not moving to another stadium. You could say the same about Arsenal and highbury and they have made the move and are in a very healthy financial position 10 years on. Apart from the cost of tickets and lack of trophies I don't hear any Arsenal fans complaining about The Emirates.
My viewpoint is all the time that Liverpool are at Anfield with their current capacity they will struggle to match the fiancial power of he elite clubs. If you look at Chelsea and City they both want to develop their stadia and expand their capacity despite having sugar daddy owners. This is because they know that the model to which their clubs are currently run is not sustainable and also under possible threat from FIFA fair play rules.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Are you suggesting Liverpool don't have sugar daddy owners? Who has picked up the £50M a year losses the club has suffered since they arrived?}

According to reports Bayern want Gundogan to replace the departing Kroos. If this is the case then I would be delighted to get Kroos over Gundogan - however ideally I would like both. If it is to be one though then Kroos is the one for me, the all round perfect player. If we follow through with interest in Carvalho then Gundogan may not be too big a miss as he looks a real player and would be perfect as some power alongside Kroos.

If I was a betting man, which I am, I would say that 4 definite targets that we will try for before the WC are Garay, Kroos, Carvalho and Carlos Mane. I for one would be delighted with those 4 signings, and I also hope that Kagawa and Zaha get more of a look in. On top of that we will of course move for a left back, probably Shaw and then if not Alex Sandro or Filipe, also this Santiago Arias has emerged as a target for right back and finally may get another back up keeper.

Changes will be made, could be as many as 6 or 7 in I think with 2 or 3 high profile players included in that list.

Thoughts guys on who will come in?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Carvahlo is a decent player but at the prices quoted I wouldn't touch him. Gundogan and Kroos would be perfect as a dynamic midfield duo. As others have said along with fellaini or Carrick we would also have a great midfield 3.

However unlike a number of posters my main target would be Gundogan above all others, even with his recent injury issues. Kroos would be great but he is a 'secondary' option in my opinion.

Also I don't see another keeper coming in as we seem to have a few decent ones in reserves as well as Lindegard off getting some good game time as well should only make us strongfer in this position next year.

I would be happy with a summer of Shaw and Gundogan as our only major purchases. Any other players would be greatly welcomed but aren't of the same neccessity as a great cm and lb.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we will get 5 players in who will go straight into the squad and maybe 2 that will be on the fringes.

1. Shaw will come in.
2. Midfield. No idea but 2 coming in maybe kroos or Herrera
3. CB no idea
4. A left footed winger

The question is do we get a right back.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Mar 2014 18:32:07
Personally i'd put Gundogan at the bottom of the list. Funny thing back injuries and for the money involved there are half a dozen players without injury problems of equal quality or better.

Can anyone tell me why we keep being linked to Goalkeepers? with Foster being the latest. If we are even contemplating selling De Gea we are crazy.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think its more likely because lindegaard will be leaving and we'll need a back up for dave although I highly doubt foster would come back to sit on the bench again!Amos is a decent keeper but I don't think he looks good enough to be our number 2 and sam johnstone doesn't have enough experience to be number 2 yet.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Lindegaard will be going, he is a good keeper who is not getting a look in and deserves a move. Casilla, Mannone, Kivrak and now Foster have all been linked - we will be buying a keeper in the summer as back up I am sure.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd be on favour of a back up keeper coming in only on loan for a season.

Agree0 Disagree0

I tell you what, one player we shouldn't of let go or should of had an option to buy back was Ron-Robert Zieler. He is developing into a very good GK in the Bundesliga and would be an ideal back up for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just a thought, maybe De Gea wants champions league football next season?

Hi Eds. I was just wondering if you know any players who are on their way out? If new players have to come in, certainly some have to leave. Current performances are not helping players either. Media rumours aside, how many players do you see leaving this summer? Also, anyone in particular, who is set to leave, aside from Vidic? Thanks
