Who do you guys think is a realistic target for replacing Evra

Dont think Baines is on the radar anymore.

Banter please. {Ed002's Note - I would not rule out Coentrao.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think MU will have one more push for Baines and if that fails again, then I suspect a loan move for Coentrao with a view to a permanent deal in the summer. I think Baines is still very much first choice, but his cost, age and his reluctance to push for a move are obvious sticking points. {Ed002's Note - Real Madrid are interested in cash or part exchange right now Syd - I doubt they will be interested in a loan.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed002, fair do's, but am I right in saying they wanted cash or part-ex in the summer too but settled for a loan? I think they will want to get rid permanently, but if he wants MU move and MU only want to loan him, with time running out in the window could we see a loan move? It's just i'd be surprised if MU took him on a permanent deal. I know you do not like discussing money, but would he be a cheaper option to Baines? Thanks. {Ed002's Note - In the summer the issue was separating a deal for Coentrau from a deal for Bale. Coentrao will be offered to clubs as part of part exchange deals or will be sold. Manchester United, Monaco and Juventus have already spoken with Madrid about Coentrao as you know, and Spurs still have an interest. He will likely be cheaper than Baines.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Would take Coentrao over Baines every day of the week. Whilst Baines has been fantastic for Everton, due to the age and price difference, Coentrao would make a lot more sense.

Ed, you mentioned Konoplyanka as a potential wild card and that we still have interest in Gaitan so it's obvious we are targeting a left sided midfielder, do you know of any interest in any other LW players? {Ed002's Note - Not right now.}

Chicharito RT'ing Carlos Vela's statements that he should leave if he doesn't get the minutes he needs. Could Chicharito really be looking to leave?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think both Kagawa and Hernandez will leave this summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why did SAF buy Kagawa? To play him as a winger or as a replacement for Rooney or was this before he knew he could bring in RvP? Feel sorry for the guy he's got such great ability.

Agree0 Disagree0

The only way Kagawa leaving would be acceptable is if he is involved in transfers of either Gundogan, Reus, Schmelzer or Bender or for that matter any Dortmund player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Kagawa is unfortunate, SAF in my opinion saw that he was the replacement for Rooney. Then we signed RVP which made things even worse for him. Under Moyes I don't think there is a place for him in the team.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ozwald

Only my opinion but I feel SAF saw Rooney a couple of years ago and thought he was in decline. Rooney had been pictured smoking and turned up not as fit as SAF expected. I feel SAF looked at Kagawa as a replacement for Rooney and possibly planned to link Kagawa with Lewandowski.

Moyes has re motivated Rooney and it leaves Kagawa without a defined place in the team. The rise of Januzaj has also worsened Kagawa's position. I wouldn't be surprised if Kagawa left possibly even as soon as January. I just hope that we use the leverage to get a top player in return.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not sure Kagawa was seen as Rooney's replacement. We all know it is a squad game and I think SAF had a clear picture of Rooney upfront, Hernandez rotating with him and Kagawa in behind. Of course then the opportunity to sign RVP came along and SAF could hardly turn down the chance. Had we not signed RVP then I expect we would've seen Rooney/Kagawa in Europe and the big league games and Rooney/Hernandez against the smaller sides when there is less need for numbers in midfield.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah I think i'm with TK on this, we signed Kagawa before catching wind that RvP could be ours also. Maybe he was meant to be someone to come in and push Rooney. It could have turned out so much more differently say if either RvP or Rooney got injured for a long period of time Kagawa would be starting most games in a central position who knows how well he could have done for us. I remember when we first signed him from Dortmund, after watching him play for BvB he stood out as the player with the best vision and quick decision making on the counter, was so excited about him. Although as most people knows we don't play anywhere near the exciting counter attacking football that we did just 4-5 years ago.

Agree0 Disagree0

According to SAF we came into the summer 2012 aiming to sign either RVP or Lewandowski, so we were always looking to add a striker. He also claims that Rooney isn't capable playing into his 30s because of his body and bone structure, and tellingly he believed that Rooney's long term future was in midfield. So I'd argue that SAF bought Kagawa as a number 10 behind a new striker with the hope of transitioning Rooney to midfield during the course of the season. The problem was that Rooney wasn't great in midfield and didn't like playing there.

This year Moyes has reverted to 4-4-2 because he doesn't want to upset his star players, unfortunately this means that Kagawa has been shunted to the side and will probably end up leaving. But the bigger problem is that we are stuck with an outdated formation dictated by the desire to keep players happy rather than any real managerial vision for the team. SAF saw the need for change, but Moyes lacks the courage to move forward.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Danny is spot on here. I think this was SAF's long-term plan, but last season when he realised Rooney was unwilling to move to midfield, the plan was to sell him and buy a top midfielder.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rooney playing behind rvp with januzaj and kagawa either side and two holding midfield. the width would come from the fullbacks who would then have cover from the two holders if needed IMHO.

I read a comment on a article today about our midfield today and the person said we should try Tony V in the centre. I know its been talked about before but I was just wondering if any of you have seen him play there and what was he like? he's quick, strong, has a engine, can pass and doesn't mind putting a tackle in so on paper it seems who could make a good cm so I just would like your thoughts on this
Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He plays in that position for Columbia, is quite strong but is massively one footed and this can get his in some unfavorable situations. Not much of an improvement on our current crop of midfielders if I am being honest. Is much better utilized out wide.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well I've seen him play there for Ecuador only once I might add, I think he's better out wide! How did he do playing there for Columbia?

Agree0 Disagree0

Actually he's surprisingly good. Strong, fast, good tackler, fantastic engine, good ball possession. But as we all know Valencia can't use his left foot, which is more likely to put him in dangerous positions and even slow us down at times.

So I think he'd do a decent jobbut he's better off on the right

Agree0 Disagree0

Or Ecuador, he is too one footed and lacks technically to play there for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

JaMax, he's from Ecuador not Columbia. I've never seen him play as a CM but i've heard that he played in that position a number of times for Wigan. I think he could lack technical ability to play in the centre, regardless of what we think anyway I don't see us watching him play in the middle anytime soon.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jamal's message made me actually laugh out loud!

Valencia probably could do a job in midfield but I think it would stink of desperation if we ever moved him there. We need a player who is naturally a centre midfielder and we need to sign him as soon as possible, shouldn't be moving a winger in there or a centre half in there. I would rather see ekangamene moved inside or Powell given his chance to be honest.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks Oswald, I just got confused with Nationalities for a minute. He does play centrally for Ecuador thought :P

Agree0 Disagree0

We don't need a central mid we've got giggs :(

After a great run of wins against a poor Swansea and then Sunderland, Stoke, Palace and Fulham I can totally undestand your feelings that your back.

Sydney! How's the prediction that you'll be top by bonfire night panning out?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Haha everytime marcellus, very predictable now, that's rite u deflect that attention away again!
How are those niggling doubts now?

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Marcellus! I have not bothered replying to anything you have ever said! However you seem like a football fan, and not blinded by your own team! Syd loves United like us all, and speaks a lot of sense! So let's look at the season so far! United have played Livepool, Chelsea and rubbishty and despite our poor start are only 3 points off second place! Some bad start? This is what we do! Forget Fergie and Moyes, we kick in at the start of the year, and we have reeled better teams than what is ahead before! Wait and see?

Agree0 Disagree0

Nice game at Newcastle, really enjoyed it. How many points are we behind the great Chelski and we haven't even played a great game yet. If not for Joe Hart we would be level.

Agree0 Disagree0

My prediction was wrong, however I thought that would be the case after the WBA game. But let's not forget MU are just 3 points off 2nd. And Arsenal are yet to play ourselves, Chelsea or City. The table is starting to take shape now and I think it will be very close come Christmas. I do not see Arsenal being there at the end of the season. I still believe the title is between ourselves, Chelsea and City.

Agree0 Disagree0

Marcellus you're not that bright are you, I mean if you take into consideration the big teams we've already played against the teams you lot have played? Not to mention the fact that you've got a big manager in Mourinho that's already been at your club so he needed no time to settle in yet he's hardly been above average. Moyes is only going to get better. Losing to a team like Newcastle that have only won 4 games and lost just as many don't see how you think you're season is looking much better.

Can't imagine we're going to see your name around here come the end of the season.

Really looking forward to see Januzaj unleashed on Eirope tomorrow night. Of we are to win the the league and make at least the quarter finals of the CL then I think that he will be key. His emergence has actually, in my opinion, made the probable departure of Kagawa less important. At the end of the day both Januzaj and Kagawa will play on the same position on the left and I think Januzaj is better suited to it. If we could use Kagawa as a sweetener to a deal for Gundogan of Subotic then I think it would be a very good deal.

This week could be a huge week. A own tomorrow will as good as secure our qualification and a win on Sunday would get us straight back into the title race. The busy Christmas period is coming up and we have the large squad to deal with the fixture list where as Arsenal don't. And then January of course is to come where I expect at least 2 to be fought in. Hopefully Baines and a central midfielder and hopefully Mangala also.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The troubles of predictive text.
I totally agree however I would still love to see kagawa and adnan played at the same time behind Rooney and RVP. Not as wingers but inverted wingers that are allowe to drift in and make the midfield more compact

Blimey Fresh. I read you post in my head and found myself sounding like the policeman from 'Allo ' Allo.

So as we have had such a bad start to the season, how comes we are only 3 points off 2nd place? A win against Arse, and let's see what the papers write! I personally think se sort of deal was done to bring in a creative midfielder in January, and I believe we may even see a swap deal with Kagawa going back to Dortmund and us getting Gundogan! It's also time to let Welbeck go, we have Tony V, Zaha, Janujaz and Nani, I think we should have Chicarito stay and also go for Benzema?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I do agree with you with parts of what you're saying.

But, benzema is one of the worst forwards at a big club. I wouldn't want him anywhere near United.

Agree0 Disagree0

We won't be getting Gundogan mate.

Kagawa will have nothing good to say about his time at OT when they speak, and if Gundogan becomes available the big Spanish will be interested and therefore, we'll be out-bidded.

Agree0 Disagree0

No way Everton would want Zaha . they have Deulofeu the Spanish Under 21 international from Barcelona on loan for two seasons to occupy that position .

Agree0 Disagree0

Let me get this right, you want to get rid of Welbeck and keep Nani, is there any explanation for this?

The only thing I agree with is the fact we are 3 points off 2nd place despite the press jumping all over us as if we are in the relegation zone. By Christmas things will have evened themselves out and we will be more like out realistic position of 2nd / 3rd.

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair, Nani can be outstanding and a match winner at times. But Welbeck has not shown any good qualities other then the fact he is a willing runner. The boy can't finish, dribble or pass.
Benzema is a no go as getting him would not guarantee Chica any more game time and that is what he wants. As for Gundogen, I am sure he is aware that Shinji has not been playing all that well (Admittedly may be due to confidence issues or playing time) and would know things are not going to be the same for him as they would for Shinji.

Agree0 Disagree0

Red sky, real and barca might want to buy him but how's he going to get a game?

Agree0 Disagree0

So GDS2, you think I am wrong? Well we have Janujaz on one wing and Tony V on the other, with Zaha, Giggs and yes Nani as cover! What use is Welbeck out there? Now with RVP and Rooney, why keep Welbeck as Chicarito is much better as a finisher and in my opinion an all round striker!

Agree0 Disagree0

So there is only 3 points separating Chelsea in 2nd down to us in 8th. Like gds2 said by Christmas we will be in a position where we can then look at the table in a more realistic view. December will be a big big month for us. We have 9 games in December and moyes will have to use the squad to its best to get through the month still challenging on all fronts. But first we have a champions league tie to deal with and then a big game against arsenal.

4 points from the remaining 3 cl games should be enough and only maximum points in the pl will do at the minute.

Agree0 Disagree0

Red Sky, how many more midfielders can the top Spanish sides take? Some of the best are not getting games!

We need either Gundogan or Koke, both are players Barca have identified as potential replacements for Xavi, but they won't sign both. Real Madrid have Illarramendi and Modric as their main midfield pairing going forward and are unlikely to go all out for Gundogan, and are unlikely to be in the running for getting Koke off of their bitter rivals in Atletico Madrid. So I expect to see Koke go to Barca leaving us a real good chance of signing Gundogan who only recently described us as his dream club.

Now I don't wanna get peoples hopes up but if we do try and sign Gundogan then I expect we have a really good chance of signing him. He has shown a willingness to move to us, Dortmund are expecting him to leave as his contract is running down, and we have Kagawa who is kean on a return to Dortmund and who Dortmund are also kean on resigning.

In an ideal world i'd like to see us sign Gundogan, Mangala, Konoplyanka, Barkley and Coentrao/Baines.

With Rio, Evra, Fabio, Anderson, Young, Nani, Kagawa leaving. If Hernandez feels he has to move on then we will need to sign another striker.

Agree0 Disagree0

Andrew B and Shano,

Not saying you aren't right, but it doesn't matter. The lure of joining those clubs is simply a lot greater - other top players have gone there with fans asking 'when will they get a game'.

I would bet big money on Gundogan's next move being to La Liga.

Agree0 Disagree0

Stop its Shappy, you are giving me a wet dream. I hope and pray you are right and we sign those players, but with moyes and Ed Woodward around I fear scholes will be recalled along with Gibson being resigned along with obertan and Bellion.

Agree0 Disagree0

Shappy, I thought fabragas was xavi's replacement?

red sky, agreed the pull of barca or real is irresistible for most players but utd is still a massive draw.

most players want to play every week so they must look at their chances of getting a game as a big factor of where they move to.

gundogan must know that if he moved to utd, he'd be the midfield daddy with a guaranteed start every week. I guess it all boils down to the priorities of the individual player.

my hope is that utd sign two box to box midfielders of gundogan's quality. its what the team needs if we are really serious about challenging at the top level.

Hi,

Arsenal Fan here in peace.
Its good to be a arsenal fan currently (Not so much the last 8 years though). We are top of the table 5 points clear. And the thing is I see both Liverpool and Man United fan saying that if they can't win the title they would like Arsenal to win it. And who cares about the fans of other two teams City and Chelsea as MOST of them won't be knowing the rules as well because they have just started watching football for past few years.

Also I am quite exited about our game at OT next Sunday. I guess this is the first time in years Arsenal will show up at OT (atleast I hope so). For the past few years I guess we have been scared to go to OT. Not so much because of the players on pitch but because of man on the sidelines, Now that it is out of the equation and now that after a long time Arsenal will be coming to OT as Table toppers It would be a good game to watch.

P.S: I guess 8 points is very much recoverable more so see that you are just 3 points off the 2nd spot but IF and its a big IF you guys loose to us at OT then I guess its a big time to worry for Man United fans. Because as everyone says You can't win the title by November but you can certainly loose it.

Looking ahead to a good game next Sunday.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It would be a very important game for us because if you lose to the title contender then you deserve to lose the title. It can be seen more in the Spanish league where there's a 2 horse race( now 3). But as we could see the season before last where we lost both matches to City and eventually lost the title to them, so this makes the weekend game even more important. Had Arsenal not bought Ozil, I don't think anyone would be too worried about playing them. But now the tables have turned.

Agree0 Disagree0

It is a must win game for us. That said, a draw wouldn't be the worst result in the world.

I think we are finding some form, and our strikers' are begining to look top class, so I think we have a good chance of winning next week.

I hope Moyes' isn't too reserved with his starting line up. We definitely have enough fire power to win the game; but we have to also defend well and not allow the likes of Ozil too much time on the ball.

It should be an epic game. I am really looking forward to it; well, a lot more than I was a few weeks back.

Agree0 Disagree0

Raph regardless of wether aresnal bought Ozil or not, they are still a very good team, which has been cleverly and carefully put together over the last few seasons. I for one would not be to dissapointed if arsenal won the league, as long as City or Chelsea don't win it.
I have to say all the Wenger out brigade must be eating a lot of humble pie at the moment.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am very intrigued as to how our pedestrian midfield will cope with the slick, fast movement of ozil Santi corzolla and wilshire. Our stickers should get some joy against the arsenal defence, but if we are wasteful in front of goal as we have been it could be painful to watch. Fingers crossed for a result. As bad as it sounds we need to jones to kick wilshere nice and early.

Agree0 Disagree0

If I was Moyes I'd go with three in midfield - Jones, cleverley Carrick with januzaj, Rooney and rvp as the front three.

if Rafael is still injured I'd play Valencia at right back as I don't think smalling offers enough going forward.
