condolences to all the utd family, in remembrance of the awful munich air disaster, which claimed the life of 23 people.
ps, manchester united - one of the few truly special football clubs in the world, from a liverpool fan. . . . lfc

Believable40 Unbelievable0

Thank you LFC. A touching sentiment. It's easy to forget that, despite all the banter and general abuse between fans (especially LFC and manchester united), we are all football fans, and tragic events such as Munich or Hillsborough hit home how important it is to remain solid together at these times.
I hope that all the united fans on here show you the same respect on 15th April

My thoughts are with those that lost someone on this fateful day 55 years ago, a day that defined our great club. THose who were lost will never be forgotten

Wearing my shirt with a little extra pride today

Good evening Ed I would like you to post this on both Manchester United and Liverpool pages.

This is about the Munich Air Disaster and as I have seen some fans in real life and on the internet mock this, I would like to post something I have found which really sums this up.

Thankyou.

Two very separate tragedies an outcome just the same.
Lives lost and ruined forever, no victim at all to blame.
Be it lives taken away on a terrace or in the Munich snow.
Each club suffered terribly, so respect we ought to show.

Heroes a plenty, a goalkeeper and fans spring to mind.
Every death and casualty, an innocent person you’ll find.
Yet both tragedies could have been avoided, surely a fact.
An overnight stay rejected, an unfit terrace over packed.

Every person that died, they all shared a common love.
So respect will be shown for each other in Heaven above.
But here on Earth it’s a different matter for some I’d say.
Time now for a new era; don’t let the past stand in our way.

Two massive football clubs, a fierce rivalry second to none.
Long may that rivalry continue, no Kopite would want it gone.
But mocking any tragedy, from that there’s nothing to gain.
Both set of fans should respect each other’s loss the same.

Still a 3rd of the season to go, who would be your player of the year so far, for me:

1: Carrick
2: Robin
3: Rafael

Would like to know how everyone else thinks.

Red Daz {Ed004's Note - same but Robin first then carrick followed by Rafael}

Believable5 Unbelievable2

Hernandez and Vidic should also be noticed for their hard work. Both been very effective for us this season.

-JakeW

Agree3 Disagree3

1. RVP
2. Rafa
3. Carrick

I also think those three will be in pretty much most of the regular watchers top three as they have been stand outs by far.

Jono

Agree2 Disagree1

The usual top three of

RVP
Carrick
Rafael

Three favourites are

Hernandez
Vidic
Valencia

for the hard work and attitude towards the club.

Shappy

Agree4 Disagree2

RVP - no explanation needed - everything about him is pure class. Top three in the world right now.

Carrick - probably the best season of his time here, now he's stepped out from Scholes shadow and become the main man in our midfield - remember how we all worried about him pre-season?

Evans - he's proved this season he can be a mainstay in our defence for years to come, after some initial doubts about whether he was good enough for Utd.

Honourable mentions to Hernandez, who's chipped in with important goals, and who plays the game like he actually enjoys it (rarer than you might think these days), and Rafael, who at this rate of progression, and with a bit more work on his defensive duties, could be the best in the world in that position in a few years time, if not sooner.

StevieK

Agree2 Disagree0

Carrick has always been a consistent performer for us. I don't know why people think this is his best season in particular.

AJ

Agree6 Disagree0

AJ - Because he's the main man now, and he's thrived in that role, when many thought he might not be able to step up to the mark.

I think most of us thought he was always decent and consistent, but had doubts whether or not he could take the extra step and make the midfield his own.

Lewandowski is, and is going to be, a great striker, and would have fit us perfectly and at a good price. But we just don't have a spot for him. He's not 19 years old, so waiting for RVP to leave will take too long, and we already have four strikers. Shame as he's world-class, but sometimes things just don't line up I suppose. -KG {Ed004's Note - I was thinking about this earlier. It seems that Lewandowski is a likely option. How about RVP dropping into the hole but not as deep as Rooney? Also playing in that Dortmund team Lewandowksi is comfortable on the ball if anything it gives us options. But would you want to risk RVP's goals drying up? Or him getting injured playing in midfield?}

Believable0 Unbelievable1

I don't see us moving for him, there simply isn't room I don' think. I wish there was, but as you say either someone leaves or others play out of position.

Fresh!

Agree1 Disagree0

Welbeck out in the summer imo, he just doesn't score enough

Pardoe

Agree2 Disagree2

Hmmm I dunno what we should do with Welbeck. He is an excellent prospect with potential to become a top player. But he doesn't score enough atm to get into the side on a regular basis in his best position, which means if he isn't playing then he will not be able to realise his potential.

So do we keep him and risk ruining him or at best he'll be a late bloomer as it'll take longer for him to realise his potential with limited playing oppertunities.
Or do we sell him and risk watching him become a top player for somewhere else such as Rossi and Pique.

Shappy

Agree8 Disagree0

Lewandowski is very much on United's radar whether people believe there is room for him or not. Welbeck needs games so I wouldn't be surprised to see Welbeck loaned out for a season if Lewandowski was signed. Perhaps to a newly promoted Hull or Leicester or even Wigan.

I am still interested to see what happens with Rooney. He's due contract talks so the summer could be a big one for him.

Sky Sport Italia reported on Tuesday the forward was set to secure a summer move to Bayern Munich for a 22 million fee, but Zorc has denied the rumours and insisted there was no fresh developments on Lewandowski's future.

"There is no new state of play. We will not comment on that, because nothing has changed for us, " Zorc told Sport1.

"If a player negotiates with another club, we cannot stop that. But as we speak, we do not know anything about it. "

Bayern declined to comment and Dortmund later released a statement saying: "We do not comment on rumours, no matter what they are like. "

However, according to Spiegel, Bayern are nearing an agreement with Lewandowski and will begin negotiations with Dortmund.

Sydney! You say that we took the cheap option in buying Zaha so we could spend elsewhere - so realistcally, who do you think we will spend the money we have saved on? Curious to see you clarify your statement.

Fresh!

Believable2 Unbelievable0

I also have a feeling that Zaha will be the only replacement for Nani, not that that's what I want to happen mind.

In the summer I think we will buy a CM'er but not 100% sure what else.

Maybe a LB? Maybe Lewandowski up front? Maybe a new keeper? Personally I don't think we need another forward and I'd like to see DDG given a chance but these would be the areas in which I guess we will strengthen.

Gav

Agree0 Disagree2

I don't think we have saved money per se, I think it makes more sense going for a £10m player and a £30m player is better than going for two £20m players.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree3

As usual Syd talking in riddles. We will sign a CM in the summer but that will be it, maybe see Nani go.
Feel we have a good settled team that just needs a tweek in midfield.

Red Daz

Red Daz, if you think we will sign "just a midfielder" then you are even more clueless than I first thought.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Fresh, would you prefer: a Zaha (cheap signing based on potential) and an expensive soon to be world-class player like Rodriguez '''OR''' would you prefer two Ashley Young's?

I am not saying we will buy another wide player for the left, but if the manager wanted two wide-men, then one cheap player and one expensive player is better than two ordinary players IMO.

Hey eds, I have an interesting question for you and the fans, Who are the most likely clubs to be forced to sell their prized assets in Spain? I know Sevilla, Madrid and Barca all have huge debt, but can you tell me any others, I was just thinking their is a lot of players going to be leaving spain if wages don't get paid and clubs don't become more financially secure. So any knowledge of other clubs in Spain struggling financially?

on the pele debate, every interview he ever gives he's asked his opinion on this player or that, if its a french interview it will be a french player, a spanish interview a spanish player and I've yet to hear him say a negative thing about anyone.
I would of though he was being diplomatic to be honest.
just thought it was a bit harsh saying
"the guy knows bugger all about the game. "
hope that untwists a few knikers
jred

Believable9 Unbelievable3

The irony of that Jred is that if anyone on this site constantly contradicted themselves, you are one of the first to pull them up on it but when Pele does it you say he is just being diplomatic? I can listen to, and take in anyone's opinion on anything even though I might not agree with it but if someone constantly sits on the fence and says what people want to hear then that tells me that they don't know enough about a particular subject to have their own opinion. 35+ years is a long time to be "diplomatic".

Agree0 Disagree7

TK
your missing the point, I'm not saying I agree with what pele says, I'm saying I disagree with your assessment that
"the guy knows bugger all about the game. "

Is he up to speed on European football probably not, why should a 72 year old Brazilian be.
Does he know bugger all about the game, again probably not, like I said I think he might of picked a thing or two up along the way.

To be honest the big question is, who cares
jred

Agree3 Disagree1

Yeh but this is the same Pele who won't accept anyone else on the planet is better than Neymar. age is clearly getting to him

Agree0 Disagree0

Neymar does do stuff that you never see anyone do, even Messi - he is the most imaginative and does have the potential to be the very best. Pele I think means more so that he will be than he is right now. This is of course also tinted by the Argentinian/Brazilian rivalry - he of course wants Neymar to out shine Messi.

Fresh!

i honestly don't get how cleverley and welbeck get so much stick. People moaned all last season about playing our home grown players. So we do and now the same people are moaning that we're playing home grown players and not signing anyone. You can't have it both ways. People have spent three years saying we need to play a possession based game and retain the ball more. So this season we've tried to play that with carrick, cleverley and kagawa in the team. Yet they get criticised. I'm not saying we could do without a signing or two. that's obvious. But people need to look at what we're trying to do and what cleverley does. Its no coincidence carrick is having his best season for years. Or how good anderson looked last year. And he's added goals as well now which was the other main cleverley complaint. Give the lad chance to mature, strengthen midfield and see what happens. As for welbeck the lad has a lot to offer. Yes he needs goals but playing him out of position or orders to play a certain role for the team will reduce goals. Then we have the spurious argument that IF he played for another team would you sign him. Well if he played for another team he'd probably play thirty games a season in his first choice position and probably bag a fair few games. So based on that yes I would sign him. As people seem to assume if he played elsewhere he'd be in the same boat he is in at united, reality is at a lot of prem clubs he'd be a regular. The manager rates them highly and I think he's earned the right for us to trust his judgement and back our home grown players. Too many people on here want to be City, soulless but with flashy mercenaries and no youth. This club was founded on youth. Before Sir Matt and Jimmy even, going back to the days of James Gibson and Louis Rocca. Yes we need fine tuning. Yes we need one maybe two top class midfielders in. But support the young players who will be a big part of this clubs future.

Believable23 Unbelievable8

I don't think anyone would have any issues with Cleverley if we were stocked in midfield with talent. I think many on here are so bemused by the lack of strengthening in that area that they subconsciously resent Cleverley for it. It's the same with Scholes, no one would have any issues with him in the squad if we had much better options in midfield.

Simply because they are 2 above average players who if they played for another team, United and you as fans would not be screaming to buy them, much like Nani, Anderson, Young and even if your honest Carrick, that you call him your best player this year shows how bad your midfield really is.

The Anthill Mob.

Agree9 Disagree9

Some on here still wouldn't be happy if we were winning every game 5 nil, winning every cup and the league every year

Agree7 Disagree0

Is there anyone on here who actually thinks cleverly is a bad player

I always though the issue was, how good he was, some people think he's a good squad player others that he's the next big thing

Same goes for welbeck some people rate him highly I don't think he will ever be a first choice striker for a team like United but I wouldn't say he's crap
Jred

Agree7 Disagree0

At 21 and 23 they are already very useful squad players, it's what they develop into over the next 2-3 years that's debatable. Whether they can take the next step is entirely up to them, but between now and then we should be enjoying the ride too. There is nothing better than watching a youth product develop into a fully fledged international.

Sydney!

Agree with Syd's point too though, if we had a strong midfield people wouldn't slate Cleverly so much. But it's not his fault the manager has failed to strengthen CM.

Anthill Mob - you are a joke! Carrick is one of the best all round CM'ers in the EPL and those players you named will have plenty of honours to look back on when they end their careers with United. BTW - where are all your scary mates tonight? ;)

"I think English football is an important league, " Falcao said. "It's where football was born and people watch it passionately. "

When asked which players he was a fan of, Falcao did not hesitate to name Ryan Giggs.

"One that's still playing is Ryan Giggs who has always been an important player in his club and continues to be a very elegant player. "

would love to see falcao signed but he is just too expensive. however if you could, would you swap hernandez and nani for falcao?
