Looks like Lindegard should practice his penalty saves. may be the best way he sees minutes next year if Van gaal is going to make those keeper calls.
Think.it.is going.to be entertaining ride next year!

I think Ron Vlaar would be a good addition for us. Strikes me as having the untapped potential Vidic had when he joined us, he'd put his body on the line for the team, which is something we'll need.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Haha good one.

Agree0 Disagree0

There's a reason why Vlaar hasn't been linked to us and let's not forget Kuyt and De Jong have been. Very average.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jul 2014 00:32:30
I think he is one of 3 members of the Dutch squad we haven't been linked with yet this summer. I went through the starting 11 tonight and the keeper, vlaar and wijnaldum are the only 3 we haven't been linked with, it's a joke.

I believe Vidal is one of the box-box midfielders out there. Getting him in would be a dream however unlikely. I think Florenzi is a very good alternative to Vidal. He is young and very good. He is also a lot more versatile since he can play on the wings. I believe he will be one of the best midfielders to come out of Italy and I think he would be availible for a lot less cheaper package than Vidal.

Eds and regulars, any thoughts?

Any chhance of Vertongen over Vermaelen? Far better in every area, looked solid at left back all of the WC too.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

06 Jul 2014 00:08:27
Totally agree.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes but we need a CB not LB

Agree0 Disagree0

Evra possibly going means we will need a LB.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jan V is a centre back imo. Would prefer him to Tom V.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jul 2014 10:47:08
And what left back is going to come in to play backup to a 19 year old we've just spent the best part of 30 million on? That's why we're being linked to players like vermaelen and blind, players who can cover leftback in an emergency but their primary position is elsewhere.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well it's a good job he's a centre back then isn't pards?

Syd and whoever wants to.answer gracefully ;)
Apparently city are interested.in sanchez and waiting to meet with his agent according to edd001 and of course united, Liverpool and arsenal interested. Where.do you think he will go unbiasly if juve don't stump up the cash?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Has City all over it now unfortunately.

Anyone know if Navas is unsettled, that will probably aid matters?

Agree0 Disagree0

If it was between us, City, Arsenal, Juve and Liverpool and all were 100% after him and determined to sign him, I think United would get him as we can offer as much, if not more currently, than the others, we have signed 2 quality players already, have a quality manager, we could be after his fellow countryman and it could be the start of a fantastic new era with the right signings. Hard to answer though as we don't know who is actually really after him 100%.

Agree0 Disagree0

Brendan, City can offer Sanchez a lot more than United, CL football and a lot more money, Arsenal can offer as much if not more and CL football, Liverpool could also offer as much money (with Suarez leaving) and CL football, stop being so bias.

Agree0 Disagree0

I believe Sanchez in Juve bound.

Agree0 Disagree0

It looks like he is off to arsenal imo

Agree0 Disagree0

Mcronald, with the restrictions on City I think they would have to sell one of their big players to offer Sanchez as much as us. Arsenal, Liverpool and Juve would never beat us on wages. I didn't mention CL football as it will only be a season and won't be a huge problem for most players.

Agree0 Disagree0

There have been some developments today. Apparently after meeting with Juventus officials, Sanchez has decided on a move to Arsenal. Arsenal will also pay what Barcelona wants. Not sure how true this all is, but it's looking like Arsenal is the place he will end up Al.

These Carvalho/Vidal rumours should excite any United fan. Do you think there's a chance of us signing both or is it one or the other. In my opion Vidal should be made priority but I know if I saw Carvalho in a Chelsea or Inter shirt I'd be gutted. He looks like a real talent. You wonder what Van Gaal could do with him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

05 Jul 2014 22:19:57

Really think that with the addition of Vidal to play with Herrera, we will see a different Rooney next season. He will concentrate on his attacking play and will no longer feel the need to run all over the pitch making up for poor quality elsewhere.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't think rooneys been up to scratch the last few years. Even with the likes of herrera around him I think he's had his day and for me, should have been sold some time ago. It will be interesting to see how van gaal uses him

Agree0 Disagree0

Rooney has just had a great season and without him we would have finished in a far worse positiion. He has covered for a poor manager and i'm sad to see so many fans who don't recognise his contribution

Agree0 Disagree0

Our best outfield player last season by some distance and top goalscorer was "not up to scratch."

Sometimes I think opinions are formed purely because of the name on his back. How bitter and disrespectful.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bigger picture needs to be looked at. Rooney had a great start to the season and we play awful, it isn't a coincidence.

He declined rapidly after the new deal.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yep we will see a different rooney next season let's hope it's in a different shirt as well

Anybody else think that Evra signing his new contract was just a ploy for the negotiations with Southampton?

Having Evra committed meant that our socks weren't pulled down as well as our pants. Possibly didn't make much difference, but I think there was never really a plan to keep him and it was just an extra card in our hand for the negotiations.

Obviously we need cover but Evans can play LB, so can Verm and we won't have fixture congestion so Shaw should not have fitness issues, maybe signing Blind as a further utility player.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Evra didn't sign a new contract. MU activated a one-year extension clause.

Agree0 Disagree0

Same thing - we only did it to ease the Shaw deal IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

Did we not do it to either keep him for another year or get some cash fir him

Agree0 Disagree0

LvG wants both Evra and Shaw for next season. Evra obviously wants to join Juventus. He clearly wanted to leave this summer, but MU activated his clause keeping him at the club for one more season. Juventus will want to pay MU a small sum to take him a season earlier.

Agree0 Disagree0

Juve will be thinking they are in the driving seat as they will just take him for free next summer, but MU will be happy either way. They either receive an acceptable fee or they have him next season as back up. Could easily end in a stalemate. However Evra is a liability in defence when he's happy at MU. I'd hate to think what he would be like if he was being held against his wishes. If MU get offered a couple million and he waives his loyalty bonus then perhaps MU will let him leave? It's a strange one, but I think he will probably stay one more season unless we get linked to a young LB in the next couple of weeks :)

As strootman is out for the early part of the season I wonder would Roma send him on a season long loan to us with fellani going on a season long loan to Roma in return. I think the pace over there would suit the wig and a swap deal could suit both parties if both excelled during their loan season. Its a real long shot but could suit all parties!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why would we loan an injured player and according to reports LVG wants wig sold.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 15:18:13
he should be fit by OCT a big benefit is that we can oversee the final part of his rehabilitation and fellani might be a hard sell, as we will have to take a big hit this summer but if he had a great season with roma a permanent swap could be on the cards, clutching at straws perhaps but it would be a good deal for all concerned maybe. As #I said a real long shot ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Fellaini? Who would want him?

Agree0 Disagree0

How can fellaini have a great season with anyone? He's never going to be a match winner is he? The guy is a complete waste of money. If anyone gives £5m then get rid.

Agree0 Disagree0

Never in a million years.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rumour going about Juventus wants Fellaini for £22 now if that could help the Vidal bid would be good
Although the rumour is too good to be true

Agree0 Disagree0

Doubt that Juve would pay more than ten quid for him, fifteen max.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 14:42:34
From a defensive point of view it is really difficult to determine our needs because each of our remaining centre backs have been attempting to fit in to a defensive system where Ferdinand and Vidic were the mould. If we are going to play a more pressing and aggressive defensive system then maybe the likes of Jones, Smalling and Evans can adapt. Are the fast enough?

The issue last season was attack and midfield - no creativity, especially at home, lack of midfield defensive spine, awful crossing or just relying on blind crossing - so we simply didn't score enough goals. Solve that problem and maybe we have an adequate group of defenders.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Pea, defence was also pretty pants last year, look how many games we lost, especially at home. To fall so far so quickly was a shock. I think the new manager and a few new players will have the current squad pulling their socks up and performing back at the level they can.

Agree0 Disagree0

The majority of the rumours on the site must have some shred of substance
As ngiak is hearing that the other two signings as earlier predicted will be from the remaining teams
The signings will occur directly after the last games like the previous 2 and they will proceed for a vacation
No brainer to ngiak
Poignant though as the Chileans are already out and there are a few potentials there
ngiak is a little upset there will be no Chileans
It's probably Germans and Dutch?
And finally there will probably be a 5th if all goes well soon
Time will tell and ngiak is excitedly twitching his flippers

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah they will probably be having a holiday first plus agents will be doing the paperwork whilst Sanchez & Vidal have a little break.

Vidal r carvalho guys who would you pick and why. I haven't seen carvalho but what I've seen of vidal he's a top player and would get even better playing in the pefm

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed004's Note - No doubt about it Vidal is the far better player currently but I'm not sure he would suit us as much as Carvalho would}

05 Jul 2014 13:30:22
Hi Ed004 why would you think vidal may not suit us as much? I think we all have to remember that under LVG we will not be playing anything like the style we have been playing for the last few years Therefore all players coming in will be sited for there ability to play LVG's style. No?

Agree0 Disagree0

I meant prem not pefm. I'd pick Vidal myself he's all action and covers a lot of ground

Agree0 Disagree0

Ken I think if the World Cup has told us anything, van Gaal is not afraid to alter his style. Certainly it stems from his philosophy that he has always had as a manager, but he can definitely tweak it in regards to who the opposition is or what players are available. I think van Gaal is going for versatility in players, to be able to adapt to a style which may change every couple of games.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 13:30:22

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - Yes I agree but LvG style of play is well known. We have plenty of numbers 10's just signed Herrera for the number 8 role and now we need a 6. Personally Vidal would be wasted there. Unless he wants to play Vidal, Herrera and Carvalho. With mata and Januzaj further forward. Would mean width comes from full back}

05 Jul 2014 14:41:13
I agree Andy that's my point . Looking at potential players and saying they don't fit our style seems strange to me as our style is going to change dramatically compared to last few years. We need players to fit into the new style not our old one

Agree0 Disagree0

004, isn't it possible that we could play three CB's in a 352 or 343 (Jones, Hummels, Evans) with no number 6 and Vidal & Herrera as two b2b midfielders? CB's are just examples.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - Currently discussing this with Ed1 atm. Reckon all width would come from full backs. Very similar to how holland plays}

05 Jul 2014 15:01:16
Yeah Ed I agree vidal is not a 6 carvalho is I would like to see him behind 2 b2b herrera and vidal both of whom are creative enough and have the vision and ability of a traditional 10. with mata floating and 1 of adnan/ greizman / de maria/sanchez alongside side rvp. that is how LVG has been using rvp with sneijder and robben during the WC i'd like to see mata take the sneijder role and one of the other play the robben type role. With those 3 in midfield behind them shaw and raf wide we would be in great shape IMO

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - so who is covering for the fullbacks when they push forward}

05 Jul 2014 15:24:17
carvalho as the DM same way mccarthy did for everton last season I was reading an article with quotes from baines and coleman saying that without mccarthy both their styles would be hugely affected. same with busquetts at barca covering alves who never defends and alba or alonso at RM. Its that holding player that arsenal miss badly too and it looks like they have identified sneirdalin to fill it as arteta has not got the legs to cover full backs anymore

Agree0 Disagree0

I would have Carvalho as the 3rd CB in a 352 or 343

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 15:30:25
ed well_be_beck (most recent post) has a team on the teams page with my response below that's how I see it. would not be mad about the CB pairing but I could live with it if we had the rest' ;)

Vidal all day long why because he's the best all round midfielder on the planet

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd have Mccarthy all day long ken!

Hi ED's.
I know the stories have been done to death reference Carvalho and Vidal. and I know we all know there is interest in both.
Do you think it is possible we may be aiming for both if we can sort out reasonable costs?
Just a though as Carvalho is a true DM and Vidal is more of a box to box.
Many thanks

Good job on here by the way everyone. Really nice to have other people who are as interested in this stuff as me!!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed004's Note - I am not sure. If you listen to the media it seems we are. A midfield of Carvalho, Vidal and Herrera would be fantastic but what about the likes of Mata, Kagawa, Januzaj, Rooney etc? Unless we play Mata and Januzaj as wingers. Doesn't make sense IMO. I would guess that we will go for Vidal and then probably Strootman next January or next summer as LvG rates him highly. I'm hoping for Hummels, Vidal and Sanchez. Though I wouldn't be surprised if it was Indi, Carvalho and Di Maria}

I doubt it very much that it will be Vidal and Carvalho. One midfielder, one CB, one quick forward player I think we will go for, but it doesn't mean that's how it will pan out of course.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 13:20:21
Edoo4 I agree a mid field of carvalho, vidal and herrera is the stuff of dreams, I think if we get sanchez rooney will be suplus to requirements as sanchez can play very effectively through the middle too, and if we were to sign de maria Kagawa would be surplus to requirements, there will have to be some balancing of the books and the 3 assets we have that can deliver decent income are kagawa, fellani and rooney prob over 60m there. whereby, clev ando young nani evra woud command about 20m between them. getting that 80m in would allow us to sign carvalho and CB and vidal and sanchez for a combined 120m + the 60 spend leaving a net spend of 80m 6 players in + wilson lingard keane. with the 8 there plus rio giggs and vidic leaving

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - The only players we could get decent money for would be Fellaini, Nani, Kagawa, Rooney and Hernandez and as long as they are replaced none of them bar Rooney are big misses from last season. And Rooney has been replaced already}

Get both. Dominant midfield with Carvalho, Herrera, and Vidal. Let the rest take care of itself.
One week we can play 4-3-3 with wingers, another week we can play diamond MF with Mata behind Rooney and Van Persie.

I just wanted to thank the 649 people who entered our free World Cup Correct Score competition on football-rumours, even though we only got it ready to launch extremely late! Good luck to all of you over the last few games.

We will be running the Correct Score competition again throughout the season, with monthly prizes and ones for the whole season. It will still be free to enter and the monthly winners will receive a £35 club shop voucher for their team, runners up a £15 voucher and 3rd will get a £5 voucher. At the end of the season, the overall winner will get a £50 voucher, 2nd a £25 voucher and 3rd a £10 voucher. Look out for it to be launched soon!

All our competition winners will soon have a badge to display on their profile and next to their name when they post. They are just the first in our forthcoming range of profile badges you can get for reaching goals on the sites.

We are also in the middle of producing a new game, which will run on our betting site (footballrumoursbets.co.uk), which is currently in alpha testing. The game is to be called 'Flat Out Racing' and will be about betting on live computer simulated horse races. It will be free to play and we will be running prize competitions on it, which will also be free to enter, as soon as it is ready to enter beta testing. Please look out for the beta test launch and participate in helping us, you never know you could win a prize for doing so!

There are lots more improvements and additions coming to the sites in the future, as we have a huge list of things we intend to bring out as soon as we can. From more competitions and games, to new features for your profiles and the sites.

Thank you to all of you who have registered an account with us, over 23000 of them have been created.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thankyou Ed for setting this up, its been a good distraction from the pitiful England teams humiliation.
Oh, did I tell you i'm in 7th place :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - that is impressive. I forgot to do mine, but I would have been nowhere anyway, I am terrible at results predictions. If we get enough people entering the season long comp, we will have tables for which teams people support. So you can see where you came amongst Man Utd fans as well as overall. If enough fans of the team enter we will add small prizes for the monthly and season winner of fans from that team too. Only be a £5 voucher like, but it is a free comp!
The plan is to add another table for who scores the most as a team. I mean all the United fans entered would have their scores totalled, all the Liverpool fans would have theirs added together and so you would be competing against sets of fans as well. If we can get that set up in time, then the fans who win would get a trophy on their site (or page if it is a club without its own site) to show off about. That wouldn't give you any prizes other than bragging rights though.}

I forgot all about it. I am on 33 points and haven't predicted any scores since the group stages, completely forgot to. I imagine 33 points after the group stage is pretty good isn't it?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I don't know, I am the idiot who forgot to even enter it himself! I spend hours figuring it all out with Ed003 and Ed033, then miss the good bits. Doh. In the next one, you can still compete for the monthly prize, even if you miss weeks here and there anyway. That should make it more interesting, even if you drop out of the running for the overall win.}

I entered my Germany Vs Brazil score. I have gone for:

Germany - 3

Brazil + ref - 1.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I have a feeling Germany will only be allowed to score if Brazil already have 2 in the bag. A bit like last night really....}

Thank you very much for keeping us upto date with your plans for the site Ed 001. Sounds like we all have a lot to look forward to. I have been reading this site for over 3 years now. I check it without fail atleast a few times a day. When I first found this site I was amazed by how unique it is and there is not another site like it where u can get good reliable information. Since then I have watched the site improve constantly with new pages and features being added.

I can safely say there is not another site like it. I speak for 99.9% of people on this site when I say thankyou to all the eds for all the hard work you put in it is definitely appreciated by us all thank you Ed001, Ed002, Ed 004 and Ed007 for all your contribution to this brilliant site. Seems Ev is off to Juventus after all if reports are to be believed. €1m the quoted price. Not sure what to make of all of this to be honest, but we are short at LB if he goes. Luckily for us if Vermaelen is signed, he can play LB. Has this given the club an excuse to sign Blind?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeah leaves us very short Syd, surely Martins Indi has to be being looked at now? Can obviously play CB as well as LB. I do like Blind though, the fact he can play in midfield could be attractive if we don't sign another CM.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - I would be happy enough with Indi tbh. Means we have more money to focus on Vidal and Sanchez. I would hazard a guess that we will sign 3 more signings for first team. A centre back, centre midfielder and a winger this window. Then over next 2 windows we will look at a world class centre back depending on how our younger players improve, another midfielder probably Strootman and maybe another winger or striker}

I though indi had agreed to go to porto

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 13:35:40
from what I have seen indi is not as good a centre half as de frij and not as good a LB as blind, Blinds lack of pace would be exposed in the EPL IMO. Tommy V can play both well when fit i'd be happy with TV and defrij if we can't get hummells which is very unlikely

Agree0 Disagree0

I feel there will have to be a compromise somewhere if that is the case Ed. let's say we get Carvalho, he won't come cheap, likewise I can't see any winger being signed for less than 30 million euro, and Di Maria seems the favorite at the minute if the press are to be believed. We could potentially be looking at around 70 million euro for Di Maria and Carvalho, on top of what we have already spent on Herrera and Shaw. Realistically I can't see us spending any more than about 12/15 million euro on a CB. Having said that, would I be happy with a window of Herrera, Shaw, Carvalho, Di Maria and Indi? Bloody right I would.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - I couldn't think of a better previous transfer window if we made all those signings tbh}

05 Jul 2014 15:05:55
jred perhaps those stories were put out by porto so someone would come in with a 25m bid for mangala. if they get 25m+ for him i'm taking my boots out, he is only 5th choice for France and I would not pay anymore than 15m for any of the centre halves in front of him for France with the exception of varane who looks a bit lightweight still for the EPL

Agree0 Disagree0

I think one of our best windows was 2007 when we signed Nani, Anderson, Hargreaves & Tevez. Obviously in hindsight Nani, Hargreaves, Tevez and Anderson never turned out well, but it was a great summer at the time.

Agree0 Disagree0

You never can tell. In '99 we signed Blomquist, Stam and Yorke and I think most of us were underwhelmed. Look what happened.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jul 2014 10:54:17
Not sure why, Yorke was prem proven and exciting at villa, stam you only had to look at him to know he would do well, and blomqvist was one of my favourite players, its a shame what happened with his injuries, stams book and yorkes partying.

96 was a good window as well. Remember people saying who the hell are all of these.

I don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves but has anyone seen odds for the title? We are 6/1.

I know we have a long way to go yet but given we clearly will have fresh blood, an adaptable tactically astute manager who plays attacking football who will galvanize the team and seemingly no imminent cap on what we can spend re FFP.

. 6/1 for 2015 premiership?

SIX TO ONE!

I don't usually go for season long bets as hate the idea of putting my hard earned currency down in August with only the possibility of collecting in May. But.

6/1 got to be the e/w bet of the century

I hope you're wearing iron underpants Mr William Hill as you're about to get CANED :)

Hi all,
Interesting rumour here, that heavily supports Ed002's previous comments.
Apparently a great deal hinges on the Suarez to Barce deal. If it's a straight sum of money and no players included then it is highly likely Sanchez will move to Italy and Pogba will be allowed to leave for Barce or PSG. Otherwise if Sanchez is included in the deal (and perhaps another) then Vidal may well be allowed to leave and we may have a chance. Juventus are determined to keep Vidal, even at Pogba's expense but want a fellow Chilean in the form of Sanchez to keep him sweet. Hopefully the future becomes clearer soon but I believe a lot more hinges on the Suarez deal than is perhaps obvious to kick start some movement.

KingGiggsy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Can't see Sanchez wanting to go to Liverpool so that part of your jigsaw falls apart.

Agree0 Disagree0

That part of his jigsaw falls apart based on what you 'cant see'?

Agree0 Disagree0

I have a hard time believing Juve are planning if ABC happens, we let Pogba go, and if XYZ happens, we let Vidal go. You would think they are going to build their team around one of them and cash in on the other.

Agree0 Disagree0

They will want to keep Pogba because. His age and potential, assuming his agent behaves of course.

All the rumours flying round regarding Vidal, di Maria, humells, etc. Under normal circumstances I would dismiss as pure speculation. To me though it seems this time round, we've got the easy ones (albeit still expensive) out of the way first. Just got that feeling a couple of biggies will materialise in the coming weeks, although depends on when the dutch world cup journey ends
