Found this on the internet, how lovely would it be if history repeated itself.

The last time United signed a Portuguese and a Brazilian player in one window, it was on the back of a season where we lost the FA Cup Final 1-0 to Chelsea at Wembley and Liverpool reached and lost the Champions League final. The following season we won the Champions League and the Premier League.

Hope history doesn't repeat itself, last thing we need is for Fred and Dalot to be the new Anderson and Nani.

Anderson when he first came was very good, gerrard was out played by him many a game and Nani was a lot better than any winger we have now.

Who cares?
I would happily write off the two transfer fees in exchange for the treble!
We will need Fred to perform though to give us a chance of that though. Unless we sign Milinkovic Savic on top, then Fred might flop and we might still be better then last season.

Saw a week or so back that someone said Kohler we're going to be our sponsors soon and if so there was a possibility of a Griezmann deal. Just saw we've agreed a deal with Kohler, just wondering if the eds have heard anything regarding a deal of Greizmann. Thanks in advance.

I saw the same thing dan! Imagine if it was true. I love griezmann he is my favourite player and I was gutted when we didn’t sign him last year. Would prefer him to bale and he would come cheaper due to his clause. Apparently Atletico are in for lemar and Cavani. If so I reckon griezmann is off. I feel if he was going to sign with Barcelona he would have done so by now. Call me crazy and deluded but I think there may be a chance. If we pull this off I will be ecstatic.

Jose seems to think he will develop quickly so maybe see more of him than we think.

I don't see the hype with rose. He seems to get caught out of position way too much and doesn't really offer much going either way except for a bit of speed. I'd rather us go for Tierney from Celtic, now he looks like he's going to be a fantastic player, i'd say he's already better than rose. But by all reports he's very happy at his home town club and won't be looking to leave anytime soon, so I'd go for David alaba if we get a chance. He is the real deal and he impresses me every time u watch him play. I'd say he would be a simular price to rose aswell. Spurs will pull our pants down for any deal for any of their players especially with woody in charge of negotiations levy would have a field day.

Ok, after popular demand (1 person) I got onto youtube to have a look at Dalot whilst the wife settled down for Love Island. Just to note, she is having this privilege because in 8 days the amount of football that will be on our TV will be obscene (also the bikini dressed ladies are rather easy on the eye) .

Anyway, from what I saw of Dalot, he has a fantastic right foot and delivers a wicked ball, something Lukaku hopefully will thrive off and we have lacked a little this year. Physically he is a big lad which will tick a box for Jose and he looks comfortable in 1 v 1 situations.

As posted below, a lot of his games seemed to be at LB where he seemed comfortable which gives us a good option and he appeared to read the game well. He also played at Anfield this season as LB and coped with the game Wouldn't surprise me if near the end of his career he finishes playing at CB.

Anyway, I think this is a shrewd signing. Rumours were, Real, Barca, Juve etc were all interested, he has been at Porto since he was 9 years old which won't be a bad schooling for him. My early prediction is that he will play more games then expected this season, even finishing the season as a first choice FB.

Believable6 Unbelievable0

06 Jun 2018 09:56:13
Think the most important thing about this signing is it indicates, or at least I hope it indicates, a clear plan for the summer. CM x 2, CB, LB, RB and RW are needed but we can't afford the time or money to go after elite talent in all positions. With a summer's rest proper rotation, which we didn't see at all this past year, Valencia should be able to get that engine and athleticism back that made him so good at RB in late 2016. Getting Dalot in quickly allows us time and funds to pursue players to fill the holes in our squad which are more alarming.

Didn't say he'd slot straight in. Said I think he'll play more games then we think and by the end of the season I think he could find himself first choice FB. Left or Right!

Agree4 Disagree0

06 Jun 2018 11:26:09
Ajh. He won't be ready, the boy will need time, hope he is A good one for the future, he might get a handful of starts to prove himself.
I'd bet that he won't be starting the first game of the season.
And anyone that thinks he is going to be play8ng every game running up and down the wings putting in sweet crosses for lukkaku is deluded.
It just doesn't work like fantasy football, he will need time to settle but hope he makes it.

I have been coming onto to this site for years but haven't posted much in the last few years.
I have a theory on the Dalot signing, everyone is of the opinion that he has been as an understudy to Valencia but from watching the brief glimpses of him that I could find he has played most of his first team games at LB and I actually believe he is going to be understudy to Ashley Young.
He has good delivery from his right foot and tends to cut back on his right foot and curl a ball into the box almost identical to what Ashley Young does to good effect when he gets forward.
So I believe we will not be signing a LB this summer and will start the next season with Ashley Young at LB and Valencia RB.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

06 Jun 2018 08:52:21
Dalot is basically darmians replacement. I wouldn't expect to see him play too often and it could be on either side for now.

Call me old fashioned but I prefer left footed left backs and right footed rightbacks. A right footer player on the left you just show them down the line all the knowing they can't cross with their left.

Agree6 Disagree0

06 Jun 2018 09:03:43
He is primarily a RB but played on the left after Porto LB first choice Alex Telles injury.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Jun 2018 09:06:16
Denis Irwin may disagree with you on that one Schauzer and for the posters old enough and lucky enough to see Irwin, they'd probably all agree he has been our best LB for a number of years.

Also, the reason Young was so successful against Salah was because a lot of wingers now play on the opposite flank so when Salah cut in on his left foot, where Young was showing him, he was also going on to Young's strongest foot, his right!

Agree5 Disagree0

06 Jun 2018 09:19:41
The thought of going into next season with ashley young and valencia as our two starting wingbacks.

Agree3 Disagree1

06 Jun 2018 10:08:04
Ports - can't argue with the legend that is Irwin. But I would say Irwin was the exception to the rule for me plus he had giggs in front of him swinging in lefties which was a help, my memory might be fading but in my minds eye I can recollect that irwin could swing in a cross with his left aswell?

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Jun 2018 11:49:15
Really can't do another season of Valencia and Young as our wingbacks. Not to mind Jones and Smalling as our center backs. If there is a God.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Jun 2018 14:04:47
There is nothing more frustrating to me to see left backs cut back in on their right to cross. It’s predictable, easier to defend, and gives centre halves times to set themselves. We need more quakity crosses from the byline on both flanks.

We see it so often in football today, A player who was world class or almost at that level for his team! Get his big money move to a top club. The player then seems to regress and be half the player he was? Almost like he said to himself " I've got what i want big club, big wage, Wag and a hot model in the garage " i can stop trying or making the effort.

It can't be just me that views things like this and Alexis Sanchez springs to mind! He was awesome for the Gunners and that goal he scored against us still hurts! I ask myself. So where is this guy everytime he plays? Maybe its the team not playing to his abilities or is he just not putting the effort in.

Now this will never happen but would you agree to some sort of penalty against a Team, Player or Managers bad performances. I was thinking of this slogan

" A Positive Stat equals Negative Vat br stats lower than an 8 will see the taxman triple his rate "

Im sure that will get players playing out of their socks hitting them in their pockets.

Believable0 Unbelievable5

06 Jun 2018 06:33:28
Sanchez has played for Barcelona and Arsenal who are both pretty big clubs so I’m not sure your analogy works. He also works tirelessly on the pitch and there is clearly no lack of effort so I’m not sure how you penalise that.

There is an issue in football that players and managers can be truly awful and still get paid as they have contracts that guarantee their income irrespective of performance. Look at Moyes, keeps getting sacked, keeps getting jobs.

Agree4 Disagree0

06 Jun 2018 08:25:47
He shouldn't keep his Wag AND his hot model in the same garage, that's just asking for trouble. Also, probably shouldn't keep women in a garage at all. #metoo.

Agree7 Disagree0

06 Jun 2018 10:01:15
The major issue for me is that most of these 'flops' tend to be the big fish and everything is played through them at the smaller club - they can make a mistake because they get the ball back 30 seconds later and the other players and fans are more forgiving. They then arrive at the big club, see the ball half as much, are asked to do other things that they weren't asked to do when main man and often struggle with the adjustment to being one of many as opposed to the one!

Zaha will be the same if taken by a CL team again. Some players are just suited better to being the main man, Le Tissier style, he would have been a virtual non-entity had he left Saints for a top club imo. Mahrez I bet will be the same at City. Some players like Le Tissier (because he is smart) know where their bread is buttered, others want it all and often come up short because there are half a dozen other players all vying to be the main man at the new club - always hard being the new kid as well unless ultra Zlatan confident of course.

Happens in most industries. Sanchez is just struggling from the style, nothing to do with confidence/ ability, purely to do with the way he plays not being suited to the way Jose has Utd playing.

Agree2 Disagree1

06 Jun 2018 14:48:02
Le Tissier was a virtual non-entity most games at Southampton. Saw very little of him till he ended up volleying a 89 minute winner in then everyone raved about. Never saw the fuss personally.

I don't know why this post has got me out of hiding. I'm a every day reader and have been an occasional poster over the years. First as U-N-I-T-E-D F-O-R-E-V-E-R and then another name which I can't remember. Eds will probably know based on my email which has always been the same.

Got to disagree with Beast and Mort with respect to Le Tiss. It was a different time so difficult to make direct comparisons. Of course he was no athlete like many of the stars today but in terms of technique and technical ability he was simply superb.

He carried a team that probably should have got relegated every year but he kept them in the top division, which sometimes felt like single handedly and when he retired I think they went down inside a three or four seasons.

During his peak years her could have played for any of the top sides and would have been one of their better players. Was he luxury player - yeah he was but he could get 20+ goals almost every season and most of them were crackers. You obviously would have to use him correctly and play to his strengths, otherwise you would have another Veron (another superb player) on your hands if all you wanted was a hardworking centre mid.

Which brings me to another point. Pogba is a luxury player for us at this moment and I believe we bought him a the wrong time and he has suffered because of it. Luxury players tend to thrive if the team is complete and they are allowed to do their thing. I'm hoping with Fred coming in to play alongside Matic - Pogba will be able to play further up the pitch and really show everyone how good a player he is. I think he is going to have a great season for us. The last two have been tough on him as he has had to drop deep where he makes little impact and can't influence the game.

Finally, just wanted to thank the eds and posters for all their debates, banter and insightful comments. Also, I had some pretty tough times over the years and always turned to my family here and always got lots of support so just wanted to say thank you.

I know youtube is not showing the overall competence of a players capabilities on the field of play, I have however been impressed with the football that Big Roms brother Jordan is currently playing.

He is currently plying his trade for Lazio at LB but can play at LM also. I was watching clip of his skill set defending and getting into good areas and better still the boy can put a good cross into the box.

He is 23 now so a great age with plenty of time to learn the Man UTD way!

Would you take a punt on Big Roms younger brother or stay clear?

Ed001 I saw your replies on the Liverpool site regarding concussions (I must say some of the opinions were a disgrace and i agree 100% with you. ) do you think the Head Injury Assessment currently being used in Rugby Union should be adopted into football? There is not enough done in football regarding concussions and as someone who suffered a few playing rugby, they're incredibly dangerous, and were one of the major decisions in me stopping.
For anyone not aware of a HIA, I believe a doctor can pull you from the game and you will carry out a 10 minute assessment where you achieve scores, which are compared to your normal scores (taken at the start of the season) and a decision based on the outcome determines whether you can return to the field. Whilst the test is done another player can take your place as a temporary sub, which is made permanent if you fail the test.
Should this system be brought into football? What do you guys think?

Caolán.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I think the system should be taken even further, but yes, something along those lines needs to arrive. People are laughing about it because of the result and the mistakes Karius made, but they should stop thinking about a game and realise someone's life was put at risk. Forget the result, that is irrelevant and we will never know whether the mistakes were down to the concussion or not, but that is not the point. The point is someone has had to be taken into hospital a few days later for something that could have killed him if it wasn't treated and it should have been picked up at the time. He clearly informs the ref he was elbowed in the face, plenty of social media discussion has gone on about whether Ramos did it on purpose or not, so why was he not checked out?

I think the rugby system is probably the best place to start. Get them off the pitch so no advantage can be gained, but allowing a replacement means there is no disadvantage either, so it gives a doctor time to be certain. With something as dangerous as this, we need to be certain.}

06 Jun 2018 09:15:17
Top post that Ed. Football is so corrupt its unbelievable . There is too much much control from the higher ups.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jun 2018 09:33:45
Totally agree gents, HIA should be enforced. The risks of concussion are well known and HIA would be easy to implement.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jun 2018 10:45:16
You see so many incidents with head on head collisions and it just makes you wonder how many concussions have gone unnoticed. They’re horrible things, and if anyone has ever suffered from one they’ll understand how scary they can be. It’s a big area which other sports are trying to tackle so why not football?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - because football is so tribal, even a serious head injury is just seen as a chance to have a dig at an opponent. Football is still light years behind other sports in every aspect of science, it is no surprise medical science is unable to get through to the teams. They are only concerned with results, so it comes down to strong regulatory bodies to deal with this and that should be the PFA. Where the hell are they on this issue? Why are they not jumping in to protect the safety of their members?}

06 Jun 2018 12:58:05
concussions are an area of sport in extremely passionate about. I suffered from 4 in a space of 14 months. The affects they can have on you are simply terrifying. It’s going to take something major like a death of a player to cause change. I have a feeling that in a few years it will come out the that governing bodies have covered up many different instances where concussions have taken place.
Return to play protocols should also be put in place on the game too, but I’m not sure if there’s even any guides in place?
I got stood down for 3 months before calling it a day with the rugby.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I don't think people realise how serious they are to be honest.}

06 Jun 2018 13:11:11
Needs to be a massive change made ed. Hopefully some players come forward in support of karius as now is the best time with the topic being in the public eye.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - instead we get treated to Ramos basically admitting he must have elbowed Karius and treating it as a joke, while Courtois opens his mouth with more stupidity and the likes of Chris Sutton saying they should have never admitted he had concussion! Something seriously wrong in football when that is the reaction to such an injury.}

06 Jun 2018 14:19:53
How Chris Sutton is still a relevant name today in the game says it all. I’m not commenting on karius performance or the affects that the concussion may have had on his performance, but it’s ridiculous what some people are saying about the chap.
Toni Kroos said if he was concussed he should have brought himself off. all that says to me is that the players aren’t even educated on the subject. Would love there to be a study in top level football on concussions and changes to be made, and quick.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jun 2018 14:56:34
Its so dangerous. You have to let the experts in this case doctors do an examination. It should be brought on. I fear it is going to take a serious incident, most likely a death on the pitch before football gets its house in order.

My buddy over here in the US is the son of former Middlesbro' centre half Bill Gates, who is now suffering from the onset of dementia. With Dalot signing imminent! Will his starting position be RB? I have read he is capable of playing RB and LB. If he is played RB what's the chances of Jose moving Toni up to RM? Or can Toni play on the right of a 3 man midfield?

On another note would you be happy to see Jose tryout the 352 formation if Shaw could find the fitness and Dalot was capable of bursting up and down the wings for 65/ 70 mins before reverting back into a 433 and shutting up shop. I would personally like to see it tried out and Dave the save told to play the ball quick from his feet like Ederson and bravo do at Shitty.

Maybe i'm old fashioned but i'd really like to see some high tempo football with players bursting down the wings and our mids creating pockets of space with some sweet crosses into the mix and of course Big Rom banging them in.
