Need some advice lads and ladies.
Heading to the Derby on Sunday and need to be on a flight for 20:20. What's it like getting to the airport in a prebooked taxi?

Thanks in advance

Only advice I can give mate is don't catch it from anywhere near the stadium.

You should be fine. You probably be in a bit of a panic in the post match melee but you should have time. Like CTRM says, just get yourself a bit away from the stadium and you'll be fine.

What is your opinion on Cavani? I read a lot of places that he is linked to United. It is also reported he 'wants to leave PSG'. Liked him a lot when he played for Napoli, and he rarly plays his preferred position at PSG.

Would you like him joining United? If yes; why? And if no; why? We will need a new striker if RVP and Hernandez leaves. Would you fancy another striker?

Believable3 Unbelievable0

08 Apr 2015 08:14:17
Every time I have seen him play he has been aggressive, a strong front man and a bit of a beast. This year he has shown his adaptability. Was brilliant for napolI and I was hoping we got him then
The price tag is too much for me though

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Apr 2015 19:02:59
Does any body think if we were to lose RVP and falcao in the summer it could be worth while bring hernandez back as we seem to work in our current set up with rooney up top in a 3 then we have and good player as cover who also has impressive sub apperances stats. With the amount of games we will have next year he will get more minutes then he has in the last few years and it will help free up wage bill money with 2 big earners off the bill and saves transfer money for more pressing areas

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I very much expect Hernandez to leave permanently this summer.}

07 Apr 2015 21:47:04
Chich will be gone for sure. Sadly his value will be diminished somewhat but I'm sure he won't be short of decent offers. Add I understand it wages increasing over the alloted annual allowance is our most pressing ffp issue so moving falcao and possibly rvp off the wage bill along with chich and rafael will help in that regard and still allow us to sign a couple of potential big earners and stay within the set boundries.
ings has huge potential and I'm sure he and the likes of clyne would not fall into the huge earners category where as hummells and in my dreams vidal or pogba or veratti would

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Apr 2015 22:39:41
I don't think hernandez can play in lvg's prefered formation as a technical or physical central forward. Rvp seems to have lost his edge and Rooney can not do it every game alone and is also versatile. If Falcao isn't kept then I expect another central forward to come in. Someone like a Cavani, lewandowski or a martinez.

I think three wins and a couple draws should be enough, however I wouldn't be surprised if just three wins allowing four defeats ended up being enough. A win against City would be huge.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

07 Apr 2015 17:24:20
I for one think that Crystal Palace away and Everton homes are more than facing Man City at home.
We should atleasg come out with a draw against city.
And I feel Mourinho would play for a draw at Stanford bridge. He always does that.
The way our team is built is I don't think we would lose many. Maybe 1, we'll just draw more.
But being optimistic, we'd push 3 goals against City and make them sack Pellegrini

Good to hear from you syd hope all is well mate could have done with you about on here recently. City will be tough they are like a wounded animal but even still their confidence must be low and ours sky high a win all but seals the deal imo and if they lose v us I think they could drop outta the top 4 altogether at the expense of spurs that would be the icing on the cake.

Syd and all others if you could pick 4 signings for the summer who would they be and why?
Hummels. experienced leader at the back
veratti can dictate match tempo
Bale. Goals pace power
coleman could be best rb in europe
.

08 Apr 2015 14:31:28
I would go with:
Pogba - for dynamism in the midfield
Coleman - to solve our RB question
Depay - all the tools to be an outstanding winger
Varane - CB for the next decade

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - Replace Varane for the more likely Hummels and that would be mine. Only way it could get any better is if we could sign a dm to gradually replace Carrick such as Schneiderlin etc}

07 Apr 2015 10:59:46
Watching Blind at left back recently with both United and the Dutch national team and I have to say the lad has been impressive. He did give a decent account of himself in the middle of the pitch for us but with players getting fit and impending arrivals this summer I can't see Blind playing in the midfield.

As much as I like Luke Shaw and want him to succeed, Blinds performances at LB against some decent teams have most definitely outshone that of Shaw. I personally think LVG will persevere with Blind at full back but where does that leave our £30million teenager?

Will Shaw become a backup player or just used sparingly next season? I am a firm believer that young players must play to fulfil their potential. This belief that limiting their opportunities to prevent burnout etc is lost on me. If you are good enough you have to play to develop.

Look at all the top players in the world, be that defenders or strikers they play regularly at a young age and with Blind at the perfect age of 25 where does that leave Shaw? Can anyone see him getting the nod ahead of Daley anytime soon? I can't.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

07 Apr 2015 11:07:03
I don't see him starting ahead of Blind.

The only option I see for him is getting loaned to a mid table PL club and trying to impress LvG or the next manager. Needless to say we will have to pay majority of Shaw's wages when he is on loan.

Agree0 Disagree4

07 Apr 2015 11:10:44
Hopefully Shaw has the intelligence to make this improve him as a player and take him to the next level. Competition at rb could have made or make rafael an even better player too.

Blind has been very impressive this season. His attitude and determination have been excellent. He does seem at home at the lb spot. While he lacks abit of pace his footballing brain more than makes up for that. In today's prices in football £16 million could turn out to be a very shrewd signing

Agree3 Disagree0

07 Apr 2015 11:59:46
JMB,

The top teams challenging on all fronts have 2 players capable of playing in every position, having 2 top left backs is definitely not a problem. We will have plenty of games next season where Shaw will play, and when he does he needs to grab the opportunity with both hands and prove his worth.

As you said Shaw is only a teenager and will get plenty of opportunities, I see it as a good thing rather than a bad thing, but maybe that is my positive outlook on life again.

Agree5 Disagree3

07 Apr 2015 12:47:13
GDS I don't think having two top left backs is a problem. My worry is that Shaw has gone from playing week in week out at premier league level to being used sporadically and maybe even more so next season.

I am a firm believer young players with huge potential should play at the highest level possible as much as they can and if Blind is first choice left back then it will limit Shaw to cup ties and the odd PL game.

Agree5 Disagree1

07 Apr 2015 13:14:51
Who says blind won't play in midfield, Carrick will need to be slowly phased out. And the type off midfielder we will be looking at won't affect blind/ Carrick.

As for the burn out issue two words, Michael Owen.

Agree3 Disagree1

07 Apr 2015 13:25:06
Sentiment should not bias the managers decision. He should play whoever is best for the team. If that means playing Blind at the expense of Shaw , so ne it. It is then up to Shaw to improve and get back in the team.

Agree4 Disagree1

07 Apr 2015 13:50:40
I Still see Blind as a long term replacement for Carrick. And Shaw will be our LB for long time if he really turns out to be the player we expect himto be.
But as of now Blind is doing an exceptional job as a fullback but with a lack of pace I seriously doubt how he will come out against a better opponent.
Really looking frwd to see how Di maria blind and shaw will be played together and on expense of whom :)

Agree2 Disagree3

07 Apr 2015 14:50:40
Blind is versatile, willing, and very professional. He says he prefers midfield, but he has looked better at left back thus far. Overall, a fine season for him, he did well at def mid, and even better at left back of late.

Agree0 Disagree1

07 Apr 2015 15:04:39
May be he could do a Bale and be converted into LW . You never know

Agree2 Disagree3

07 Apr 2015 16:34:35
It's not really as simple as that, you have to manage young players carefully no matter how well they're playing. Two examples being Sterling this season has been no where near as good as he was last season due to being played at the highest level week in week out followed by a WC, he's completely burnt out, maybe some of it's to do with this contract stand off but it's not wise to slack off if you want a bigger contract or a move elsewhere. Then there's Januzaj who was used an awful lot last season under Moyes as he was probably the only player who felt like needing to prove something, along with the fact he was always getting fouled he should have been rested more. He hasn't been the same this season.

Blind has been playing well but who is to say he'll keep that form up and keep Shaw out the team? Or who is to say he won't get injured, or someone else in midfield for that matter thus needing Blind to fill in there instead? Shaw will get a lot of opportunities as Blind was not bought to play LB, all the while he's playing well there fair enough but I could bet my house on it not being long term. Shaw will just need a year to settle and let everything sink in. He has the skill and hopefully the right attitude he's still a teenager so he has plenty of time. Who's to say he has to reach his potential or anywhere near it within the next couple of years otherwise he won't at all anyway?

Dont forget that Rojo also plays LB

And Ashley young does a job there too.
We have our full backs if Rafael is given a proper chance.
The injuries have reduced massively under the new physio and that is the case with Rafael too.
Smalling and Jones have been largely fit for a long time now, maybe Rafael would do the same.

Agree0 Disagree1

07 Apr 2015 19:01:09
Yeah, what a waste of money Shaw was. How about we give the kid a break. He has huge potential and this time last year everyone was drooling over him. I like Blind a lot but he is not a left back. I think Shaw will settle in and nail l that place down for years to come.

Agree4 Disagree6

08 Apr 2015 09:52:54
AJH who has said he was a waste of money?

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Apr 2015 11:28:24
I think Shaw will have to take the jump and move to centre back, he's probably a bit big to be playing left back which will result in lots of injuries. and he is the worst crosser of the ball I've seen in a United shirt, which I think suggests he isn't really in the right position.

I'm not saying that Blind is the solution, because as he matures I think he is an ideal replacement for Carrick, but Shaw doesn't solve any problem for us for the moment- that being said, that doesn't mean he isn't a good player, just that he isn't required by us at this point.

I can't help but feel that a contributing factor to our improved play is that we now have an outlet down the left that can whip a ball in. If we got one from the right too then we'd probably do even better. The very thought of having to watch Shaw and Valencia spending 90 minutes to put in a single cross between them again is making me feel ill.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Apr 2015 12:03:12
jackb,

Worst crosser of the ball you have seen in a United shirt?

Are you sure mate, Shaw's crossing is one of his strong points, he always seems to pick out a man in the box and is about 10 levels above Valencia in his crossing.

Agree1 Disagree1

08 Apr 2015 13:07:54
JackB I think you have to look at how Shaw played at the saints last year to understand he is a perfect full back if fit but I agree with you Blind looks better at LB at the minute.

GDS Shaw hasn't been half the flying fullback he was for the Saints last year but I agree he can put in a good ball but they have been few and far between this season. Also it's strange that Valencia has had such a poor season of crossing into the box, a few years back he would always put the ball straight onto an incoming forward.

Agree2 Disagree0

08 Apr 2015 13:52:43
JMB,

I agree he hasn't been great for us but to say his crossing is the worst he has seen in a united shirt is ridiculous!

Valencia hasn't been able to cross for about 3 years now, but before that he was great at it, I must admit I think his crossing has improved recently, he is looking for Fellaini at the back post rather than just blasting it every time, but he is still not brilliant.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Apr 2015 16:36:52
Haha never watched Bebe try cross a ball for United then? There are videos on the web specifically to show you just how atrocious he was.

My guess with Shaw is that he's suffering from a change in style of football with LVG's idea of playing a very possession based game, moving forward only when there is an opening. Whereas Shaw is much more used to getting the ball forward one way or another he's probably struggling to get to grips with it. Same with Januzaj.

It's fair to say players with a bit more experience are finding it easier to adapt to LVGs philosophy. Give Shaw more time it's silly to say where does that leave him just because Blind is playing well now.

Old Carlos is hitting some top form =)

Still think it was a shame Fergie chose Berbatov over him.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

was thinking that too watching him against Empoli, the work rate alone is worth his wages great player but a lot of off field snags go with that .

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Apr 2015 09:28:27
Our stats v villa in terms of keeping the ball 77% Are akin to what barca have been doing for years to their opposition and it's become the norm for us to have 65% plus in most of our games this bodes very wellfor a cl campaign next year. I belive weer are best placed of all the epl teams to compete in euro comp next season.
Just a quick one on valecia v rafeal for the rb shout. Raf has been a regular for 5 seasons and was still making the same stupid errors this season that he was making as am inexperienced kid all those years ago. rash tackles stupid bookings and losing the ball needlessly. Lvg won't tolerate or ignore that sort of stupidity fergie ignored it for some reason. He will be sold imo because he can't improve. So we need to buy a rb unless blind or shaw can do a denis irwin and South flanks with great ease and play rb. That might be shaws best hope of getting into the team as blind had played a lot better than shaw at lb this season. One of
Veratti koke and pogba would be perfect for midfield not sure any of those 3 would be attainable I would bring in ings and allow wilson to go on loan for a season to blackburn who will sell rhodes in the summer.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

07 Apr 2015 12:03:42
the only problem with that being, if the reports are true and RVP is to be sold and the Falcoa option not being taken up it would leave us a bit light up front with just rooney and Ings. i would probably keep Wilson around

Hey ED,

I won't trouble you with any specifics regarding the FFP but are we in a position to say spend 100-120 million pounds NET on transfers and still be in good FFP health?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - That is not the issue that Manchester United face.}

Thanks Ed.

Also, wages wise are we safe?

Falcao and potentially RvP and Nani leaving should save a lot of wages.

{Ed002's Note - It depends what the club spends on wages but you need to understand the bigger picture of what will be happing in the future.}

Ed002 i see in most comments you are saying that deals may depend on managerial change. Do you believe Van Gaal will be sacked even if top four is got? If so why? And who would be the replacement?
Thanks

Burnley beats Arsenal. QPR last minute goal against Chelsea. We beat City.
Then.We beat Chelsea. Chelsea and Arsenal draw with each other.
You can dream but for some reason I think there might still be a few twists. The bottom clubs have something to play for and Chelsea have a habit of conceding in games against lower teams. Arsenal have hit some form but not sure if they will maintain it. Consistency has not been their strong point in the last ten years.
I'm not saying we will win the league but it could be closer then people think.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

07 Apr 2015 08:03:02
The difference between Arsenal of the last few seasons and now is Sanchez, who I think has been the best single impact signing of the year. His hard work, skill, team attitude, scoring ability and all round game are fantastic. So i personally do not expect them to falter, which is not to say that we won't beat them at OT this time around. However i think we still have the harder run in. I simply can't see Chelsea not winning the title. After the way things have been this season, 3rd would be an excellent outcome.

One cannot help thinking how things might have been had we done what we should have in the first 10 matches of the season when the fixtures seemed perfectly set up for us.

I hear lots of posters still demanding for some attacking midfielders but for me we are in need of defensive midfielder with good range of passing . Herrera, fellaini and mata are there for the attacking role but we only have Carrick and Blind for DM role where carrick is the only one with good long range passing technique . People bring Pogba or Vidal name a lot but we need neither of them. We need a Kroos or Alonso type of player to replace carrick as he is 34 and we are still realiant on him . I would prefer mascherano (not young i know ) but still has 2-3 good years on him or kroos (who is not available ) . Khedira can be another option but his wages demand is very high . Someone to do job like Matic does is basically what we need. I don't know if there are lot of World Class players available in this position but it is better to look for DMF than AMF

Believable0 Unbelievable2

07 Apr 2015 08:30:24
I think if Pogba is available then he's a must. He links midfield very well and he's exactly what we're looking for. He's a beast of a player and is very strong and skilful and can play in different positions. If any of city, arsenal or Chelsea get him, then they'll win the league.

Agree1 Disagree2

07 Apr 2015 09:27:51
It's quite plain and simple there are two types of midfielders we need. One who can dictate the tempo of the game, and another who can add drive through the centre of the pitch. One to replace Carrick long term and one to add another dimension to our midfield.

The obvious thing that we need though is quality, we need players of the highest calibre. For me there is two stand out candidates.

Verratti for the game controller role and Pogba for the impact midfielder. If pushed for back up options I'd go with Xhaka for that deep lying controller and Koke for impact midfielder.

Either way these are the type of players we should be aiming for.

Agree2 Disagree0

07 Apr 2015 10:57:07
I think our future lies in Spain, Pedro Obiang will drive that midfield and Illarramendi would be perfect to sit deep.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Apr 2015 16:48:44
Verratti really would would be perfect for dictating the tempo, his passing is outstanding, knowing who and when to pass to he's slightly Scholes-esque. From what I remember though he's likely to end up at Juve if he moves from PSG!

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Apr 2015 17:34:20
How's the lad Granit xhaka doing in Germany(last I remember where he played).
Was part of the Basel team that was a thorn to us.
Illaramendi should be a decent buy, with Madrid having a history of benching certain, those who when sold/loaned to other clubs perform admirably.
Example: Garay, Carvajal, Alonso.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Apr 2015 17:56:48
I think one player who can control the tempo of the game and might become available is Modric, still for me one of Madrid's best players and proven EPL track record. Not sure what will happen at next season but with their policy of signings some players will surely be heading out of the Bernabeu.
