hush now people and listen to the silence our noisy neighbours have gone awfully quiet and do you know why its not that we beat them it,s that they have just seen the future all the money in the world and they know that our young players are going to be better than anything they can buy

blue moon rising has just been eclipsed and they are now going to panic and try to buy even more players not that it will make any difference as mercenaries dont hang around long when the going gets tough could never see them coming back from 2 down no team spirit you cant buy pride or passion

I've asked the eds about 6 times 'are we actually signing sneijder?'

But the thing is after todays performance I was really impressed by the one touch passing and the pace up top and on the wings. Would sneijder fit into this style of play? Or would we be better signing someone like gotze or nasri or shinji kagawa.

Loving the youthful, confident look to our squad ahead of the new season but I do think we need another cm as anderson is inconsistent.

I have got to say I was content with us not signing another player before... But after watching today I am more than content. I am very confident.
United were absolute class today. Right through the team. I used to think our comebacks were inspired by the likes of Scholes and Giggs leading by example but on today's evidence that mentality flows
throughout the entire team and the youth
coming through, even the new signings.
We played free-flowing attacking football backed up by grit and determination and overall I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it (incase you couldn't already tell)

Special mentions to:
Nani (obviously)
Chris Smalling
Anderson
Tom Cleverly
Danny Welbeck
and Rafeal just for the pure cheek ;)

Outstanding performance.

I don't think we need sneijder, I recon we should give cleverley a chance because he change our passing game when he came on and he looked pomissing. He created chances and he's got potential. I think we should give him alot more chances and he changed the game when he came on.

Great performance today, If Wesley Snijder would of made his debut today and played like cleverley everyone would be going crazy. Cleverley was outstanding today. I still feel a snijder/nasri playerr is needed to bulk up our options. I wander how long it will be before peole are asking is this fergies best ever team. de gea twins smalling jones cleverley wellbeck young The future looks very bright. (you cant win anything with kids)

david gill said that man utd will sign at least 1 world class player before the transfer window closes. my guess is sneijder or nasri. however gill and fergie could wait for the next summer transfer window to get nasri on a free.

@@

Why are you slating him for doing what he does best and so what are you complaining about

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well said comment number 2. Evra isn't just about covering the defence, he gets forward and so gives that attacking threat. That is one reason why Nani wasn't as good on the left as he has to make sure he covers Evra over there and that seriously limits him although some other wingers like Valencia, Park and Young are able to do that as well.

So am I getting you two right here? Evra's main job as a left back is to attack?. I must have missed that lesson when I was younger. I was under the impression that defenders main job was to defend. Is it?

I know attacking full backs are whats needed bt Evra hardly creates a bucketfull of goals does he. I would rather a defender that helped attacks not a second winger that sometimes get back to defend.

We have all noticed a decline over the last year and even SAF pulled him today as evan got caught out twice with no help as he wasn't there.

If his performances dont improve on this last 16 months then a top LB as well as a replacement for Berba will be on the agenda next summer.

As a NUFC fan i just wanna say thank you very much for obertan
He looks like given a run he could be a real good signing and looks fast which is what we need in our team
Any of you think he will be any good?

I think the squad is good enough to win the league so paying 30 mil + for a player can only be to win the euro cup.
Cleavely and Anderson looked good but are they ready for Barcelona ?
I think if we buy sneijder we will play Rooney as a lone striker in Europe with sniejder behind him Anderson and carrick holding and a mixture young tone and nani out wide.
One more thing how good are we looking at the back a great mixture of young and old

I have a question for the big guns on here ie eds Sydney gan/ngiak red man etc

With all these increasing rumours that we are going to sign Schneider, where do you see him fitting into the team?

I mean today both Rooney and Nani were given quiet free roles, the same kind of job given to Wes. Do you see him taking over one of our big guns or being played deeper as a centre mid?

Just been on the city page for a giggle...they've all gone rather quiet ;o) Good performance today, i'm happy with the balance and the blend of the squad, not really sure that Sneijder is needed imho...would prefer to develop Cleverley and Pogba. Add those two to Carrick, Ando, Fletch and Giggs and we have plenty to be going along with...not even sure we need another fullback either with how Smalling is progressing at rightback...the future does indeed look bright. Oh, and anybody slagging De Gea is an idiot. His distribution is 1st class and his reactions are chicken grease lightening. Will be a top keeper with 6 months under his belt...

What I can see happening with Sneijder is that, with Man City having ruled themselves out, and Sneijder saying Inter need the money, Inter will offer him to us for cut price in the next week or so (that is to say if we don't make a move earlier, which I actually doubt we will) as they may become desperate to sell.

And by cut price I mean around £25-£30 million. (Most likely the latter)

A great result today but let's not get carried away we are still crying out for a world class midfielder yes cleverly and Anderson were good today but it was only for 1 game and I can't see either chipping in with 10 goals a season and if either get injured were left with carrick or fletcher which to be fair are useless good performance today tho

Believable4 Unbelievable2

07 Aug 2011 19:36:35
Well done united today we gave city a 2 goal cushion and stil turned out the better... Where are all the people who said sell nani now?? If only he would pass more often :) Good to see the young players getting a good run jones, young, cleverly all got there first taste of competitive football and came out smiling, not taking away from other games they have played but this is there first silverware.... Still think WS would be a great addition I never thought we had a bad team for the league but WS could really help in big games especially against Barcelona

I agree with you about de gee but that's part of the problem can we drop him will his cofidence take it the word on the street was he was unsure about a more to united cos he wasn't sure he was ready to be a united no 1
I will be honest I only saw him 4 or 5 times last year but he wasnt great some of the things he did were amazing but he made mistakes which is what u would expect of a young keeper.
The people in the no have seen a lot more off him than me and rate him very highly and I also think he is going to be a very very good keeper but is he ready to be uniteds no 1.
Am not saying his not I'm just not sure one more thing lindergard looked good and sounds hungry to prove a point the competition can only be a good thing.

think the team will be complete when When Wes finally joins later in the month. Still not a match for Barca dont think anyone will topple that team just got all the right players at the right time but that will change as Xavi and Iniesta age as it did for us will Scholes Keane and giggs. We have to make sure that we have the right players when thta happens to pick up where they leave off. Anderson was class today looks like this could be his season finally sat in there with Wes dominating games. Overall happy with the squad Smalling still looks a little nervous but has to be expected in his rapid rise to the EPL, however Jones looks right at home already and will be serious competition to Ferdi. Cleverly looked good but reminds me of fletcher we need a couple of creative options (wes and one other maybe Franco). Would like to see Berbatov sold and another solid striker brought in for cover as dont think Wellbeck or Macheda are ready to be relied on to provide goals in the absence of Rooney or Chico. Especially when u look at Chelsea fwd line up we look a little bit weak.
On the whole squad looks great a lot of youth especially at the back reminds me of the 90's
So only a little tinkering and back to the domination of the 90's.
Think De geas error was good as its happened he went on to make a great save and we won so error wasn't costly, it was always going to happen as all keepers make mistakes but he didn't looked phased.
Can't wait for the season opener next week trust me Anderson to be massive this season get him in your dream teams lol

De gea was nt great today no doubt his going to be a great keeper but is ready to be a united no 1yet ?
Jones and smalling look great I watched the u21 euro and the only person better than smalling was thiago
Cleavely looked good is he ready to run our midfield yet prob not , but only a couple of years away , Anderson was good playing a deep role carrick has had better games.
Welbeck same as cleavely , young fitted in well and nano picked up from last year
We look a very good team at the mo and should win league but for a quick fix we should sign sneijder he could make the difference from good to great team.
No need to sign a young player like goteze as cleavely will be that player in a couple of years
Remember even scholes couldn't run our midfield at cleavely age

Is a 'scholes replacement' really necessary? I mean, scholes did not really play much last season, so why do we need to replace anybody? I say we have spent enough already. Keep the money for future young talents (which is clearly what SAF is doing now)

De Gea
Rafael Vidic Ferdinand(Smalling) Evra
Valencia(Flecther) Anderson Carrick(Giggs)
Nani Young(Park)
Rooney(Berba,Chicharito)

I think today showed that if we can get WS than we will walk away with the prem this season. I thought we were superb today and when cleverley gets a couple of years experience we will be looking at a world class CM. Also whoever thinks we should take 20-30 million for Nani is deluded as I cant think of a more effective player in europe at the moment.

you were winning 2-0 pegged back to 2-2 , the game is slipping away , you have a £34m striker on the bench, surely its time to bring on............................... Gareth Barry..

Immense performance from the lads today full of energy and even though de gea did make a mistake his distribution was first class . The lads were great today and i'm even more optimistic for the forthcoming season.

if we sign or dont anybody think after watching that today were in for another great season of watching a new young team coming together, the 2nd goal today it woudnt of mattered who against they would stil been just lost just standing there
not greatest fan of wellbeck but did well the effort closing down&tracking back,Cleverley just walked in like he been doing it for years, no giving the ball away ,linked the play, kept utd moving the ball at pace, got forward&tracked back think Carrick as got a problem,Ando is the key thou if can get him playing hes top game regular then Cleverley can be put in alongside&do his game

Good afternoon Guys

I have to say that was a really impressive performance from the ladsI've said a few times on here that I believed that Fergie was looking to play fast counter attacking football and god did we look dangerous on the break. There were many outstanding performances today and even though De Gea was at fault for the 2nd goal I still felt that he showed plenty of promise.I always felt Ashley Young was a good signing and I have to say Phil Jones looks like the real deal.I must say Danny Welbeck was outstanding and Tom Cleverley changed the game with his passing and energy.
Now the big question do we need Wesley Sneider and for me yes we do.Can you imagine the chances we will create with his vision and class and the speed of our attackers.Under his guidance Cleverley will improve no end and with his emergence and Anderson finally looking the part it might just signal the end for Michael Carrick.

Have to say we looked awesome today

Ashley Young - excellent I think he's going to be a star at united.

Nani - brilliant today, looks less wasteful too, this could be the season were we see a complete nani.

Cleverly - fits right in, so calm and has great vision, do we need sneijder? Prob not.

Anderson - looked great today, hope he can keep this up as he has all the attributes

Jones - another who just looks comfortable, great defender with an excellent touch

Smalling - brilliant

Futures bright

Anderson looked like a through star, his passing was unreal but is afraid to shoot.

Cleverly looked impressive. Is strong, tough and can pass.

Welbeck was better than rooney and was second to nano as in man of the match.

De gea made one mistake , but his reflexes r good and his passing is spanish -esque

wow...just wow firstly what an amazing comeback from our team i mean phenomenal. now smalling has got to be one of the most amazing stories. 2 seasons ago he is at maidstone and now scoring a goal at wembley and putting in a phenomenal performance. nani was brilliant so much maturity and the second goal was absolutely exquisite. however i think young should be praised because he was brilliant good crosses and the balance seemed right between him and nani who are both skillful players who can use both feet so can swap wings. anderson was brilliant and when cleverley came on it really changed the game. every time i see cleverley he gets better and better and him and ando really shone. jones and evans did excellent when they came on. now i know you lot must be thinking why do we need another midfielder but i think if we were to snap up someone else it would polish our squad off and i could really see us dominating. sneijder would be my choice however i can see nasri seeing todays game and thinking only one team he wants to join and win trophies. so all in all amzing comeback and with one more edition i can see us having a very successful season

Some never learn , posting misery on here at half time. With United you always wait until the end.

Now everyone will look at Nani but I thought the one to look at was Cleverley. He impressed me a lot. If you watched him it was like watching a young Beckham but better in the middle. I felt his second half was that good.

Smalling and Jones were both excellent

I am still not convinced by Welbeck and as for Berbatov he was the only one when he went up who didnt look like he enjoyed the win.

The second goal was a barcelona moment, every bit as good as anything they have done.

Cleverley needs a run of games in the middle then see how he does

united were great...
apart from the 2 city goals which were both against the run of play we dominated the whole match especially in the second half.....
cleverly was phenomenal and welbech was great too....anderson looked good....and rooney was as usual superb...
jones and smalling showed why they are touted as future england centre-backs...
but i resreve the highest praise for nani, not because of his goals but cause of his attitude and less wastefullness.....

Great game - as commentators say that is the most competitive Community Shield for years and to end with a result like we got is just brilliant. As for all the talk of creative mid - just look what Cleverley's one touch passing achieved in the second half. Give the boy alot of chances this season and who knows what he will achieve i for one feel he will be a world class mid before the season ends.

have to say, that was easily our best performance in a long time. other than de gea's howler, we played awesome. he's young and will only improve. and evra? shocking performance

onto positives:
Nani - outstanding
Young - far surpassed my expectations, looking forward to seeing him more now
welbeck - well capable of playing with the big boys, now deserves his chance
Cleverly and anderson - brilliant performances from both. forget schneider. i'll take our own two young boys anyday

if we can play like this again during the season then other teams are going to find us a very difficult team to beat.

Absolutely brilliant. Very impressed with everyone

To the person of a Liverpool fan below, I know, having a keeper make a mistake on his competitive debut is so, so bad. Hang on, Arsenal, last year, beginning of the season? what was Reina doing? what he always does. Makes himself look a fool while fighting invisible ninja's.

As for the thing that really matters today, Everyone looked sharp, Especially Smalling and Anderson. Everybody was quality, Was a bit nervous once we went 2-0 down, but I love the way the game ended.

I support LFC and Im watching game live. Have to say United look disjointed, and your noisy neighbours dont look much better to be fair.

Your new goalkeeper looks very dodgy .....simple shot no-one near him and he doesnt even get to the ball ? whats all this about ?

For the first goal goalie was almost on the floor when the ball landed on lescotts head......dodgy keeper im afraid.

United could be in for a major shock this season, it takes time for a keeper to settle into a team, and he doesnt look good at the moment guys.

Wow, I know De Gea is for the future and will improve, but his reactions for that Dzeko shot were piss poor I hope he gets better fast, or we may have some trouble retaining our title. If aguero gets a run out I think it might be time to worry about losing by an embarrassing scoreline

Half time and pretty annoyed. Were the much better team for the opening half an hour but then for some reason we dropped the tempo and allowed City more space and time in midfield. Both goals were avoidable especially the 2nd. Let's hope we get back to how we played in the 1st 30 mins.

Personally I don't want Sneijder or Modric or Schweiny. A mix of Age, Wage, Fee, and attitude, (Modric, I'm looking at you).

I would prefer Nasri and I would prefer Gotze. Both just as good but Nasri more probable. But I would love to give Pogba, Morrison and Cleverley a chance.

Also I don't want a new forward, well not yet. Next year, I would release Berba & Owen, and then we would have room for another forward. Cavani maybe. Gilly

TODAYS GAME- are the noisy neighbours about to sound more like a harmonious orchestra, with a mr augrelo being the conductor, i think so, 2-1 to the city with balotelli getting the winner.and so the colour in manchester gets even more blue.........lfc

Right, I'm going to stick my neck out here: There is a piece in the Mirror by Michael Calvin about Giggs and the abuse he might get this year. I don't think for one minute that Giggs will not get a sh**load of abuse at away grounds and i think it will be a disgrace to do this to someone who has given the game so much (even if it was from his own stupidity). Does anyone think he should retire now? I do. Before ye all start abusing me, think about it. He is 38 and getting slower all the time. He had good games last season but he will have less this time. Scholes really should have gone last summer but I believe SAF coerced him into staying. (Neville should have gone the year before) I think SAF is doing the same to Giggs and it's not right. Maybe I'm wrong and Giggs wants to stay and stick up 2 fingers to the chanters along the way, if this is so, good for him. (I also believe that it is an absolute and utter disgrace that a club of our stature needs to rely on a 38 year old to play midfield). But, I have a feeling he is going to announce his retirement very soon (maybe he was waiting for Scholes to have his testimonial first). Thoughts anyone?

I dont understand with this talk of berba going why we have never been linked to lakuka. Or why we dont try for him any way {Ed002's Note - Lukaku has already agreed to join Chelsea.

more compelling than a re-run of the clangers,as funny as paddy creland,as much freudian as orwellian, more absolute nonsense talked than on talk-sport,nearly as good as the compulsory reading of the liverpool pages, where the genius can talk tripe,as good as mike bassets football analysis, and where everyone donst take things too serious, yes its the mu banter page.......lfc

Am I the only united fan who thinks
United don't need SNIDJIER, I mean we have enough midfielders, Anderson hasn't been great but pre season looked sharp and cleverly is mint
Rotating them two with giggs, carrick, park, fletcher Or even rooney and play chicha and welbeck Pace all over and fresh young
Legs like the 92 season
