Anybody care to hazard a guess as to which player has the most yellow cards in champions league history?

Our very own Paul scholes😂😂 32. I couldn't believe it when I read it today on his wikopeda.

Paul scholes is up there as one of my ALL time legends. He was an animal.

08 Dec 2017 02:44:27
The greatest lie the devil ever told, was to convince the world that Paul Scholes couldn't tackle! So many of those yellows were probably border line red cards. Clever little fecker 😂.

Great line from Scholes recently as a pundit on BT. The presenter commenting on a bad tackle said "that was one of yours Paul". Scholes replied "no, he got up"

Could be true oxford the article I read is a year old but scholes got booked nearly every second game and missed a final. My second fav united player of all time.

Very harsh comment coming now, I understand that the great Gigi Buffon is retiring this year but finishing 4th overall. I'm sorry but the legend has been pretty much consistent throughout his career but he lost his statue as the best keeper in the world a few years ago. I personally felt this year was the year in a while that their wasn't really a obvious winner.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Dec 2017 10:22:47
I agree Shane thank god someone thinks the same as me. Gigi is a legend of the game and was the best keeper in the world several years ago. I would even argue he is the greatest keeper of all time. But to have him 4th in the ballon d’or is a surprise. It all seems to sentimental for me just because he’s retiring.

I suppose it depends on how you judge it.
A few seem to judge a player on what the team he is playing in won .
Strange.

08 Dec 2017 11:55:03
I agree jred. But I do think it’s a bit of both. If the player has contributed heavily to the success of a team that wins trophies then of course they should be nominated. But if they are picked purely because there team won something I have an issue with that. You could argue that mahrez and Vardy should have been ranked higher when Leicester won the league. But because they don’t play for real and Barcelona they aren’t recognised.

A few more points after speaking to Ed001.
Just a reminder as we need a fair few more for next summers charity football match in which it's Ed002 vs Ed001 being armchair managers.
Details:
£35 match fee per player
Held in the midlands at a floodlit pitch
Winning eds charity will receive 80% of money raised, whilst runner ups charity will receive 20% ( to give it the feel of competition)
The aim is to raise £1000
I've been tinkering with some programmes and streaming services, looks like the game will be able to be streamed to the posters which is great.
Any age is welcome to play, we have had a wide variety so far!
A lot of emails regarding not being able to play, but would like to donate to the eds charity. I've come up with the idea, that if people want to do that, they could donate to either eds charity, as a type of "I back you to win" donation. An we could get a poll going to see which team the posters back to win via donations :)
I've ran several football clubs an events so everything is in good hands. I'm friends with Dermot Gallagher also as he's from my town, and I'm sure I can get him to referee.
All we need is a few more sign ups, hoping to be able to pass everyone on to the eds this weekend so they can pick their teams.

Great ideas Benny. I've done a bit of charity work as well in the past,
And in my experience the more fun you have the more money you collect.
Last year 8n cork we had a few charity games and we played bubble football and that's great fun. you could do it at half time or just have a separate game.
Anyway best of luck just thought I'd share that with you.

Was reading a report by one Jim White about how Old Trafford facilities are deteriorating and we are far behind on upgrades when compared to the other clubs.
Can our usual OT faithfuls here shed some light on this issue for me?

{Ed002's Note - I explained about this some time ago - maybe two or three years. Try searching on Ikea.}

Old Trafford is more of a traditional stadium than all these modern stadiums. Having been numerous of times to matches and doing stadium tours.

General consensus is that they want to keep the tradition within the club. It does indeed look dated in certain sections. Definitely the red flooring that's looks like more 60s than anything.

Thoughts on the game?

I think we have a great chance and expect a win. here’s why.

City have been good no questions but the form has and performances have dipped. I think the intensity of the playing style is fatiguing players mentally and physically. I also believe teams are slowly working out a way to stop them.

JM is pretty much the main man when es to tactics and we have a very fast and counter attacking team which can exploit any weaknesses.

Also looking at the teams that have caused City the biggest problems, they have been the more pragmatic.

We must not lose. Can't afford to go another 3 points behind. He might set up to draw.

City have a fantastic first 11 (probably the best in the league) but lack depth and quality after that. I personally think United have the better squad. Think Mourinho might set up to frustrate and stop City and steal a win towards the end of the game.

So an attacking player can wait next to the goal post behind the line and run on to the pitch and collect a long ball played up field as he's not in an offside position when the pass is played? Can someone please clarify?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - no, he would be offside. I don't think you are getting it, he would still count as part of the field of play, just like a defender ending up there does.}

07 Dec 2017 12:39:37
I get it ed, just playing devils advocate but why isn't the attacking player offside in the united game on tuesday (who has also gone off the pitch infront of blind) and daley blind is playing them all on when he is off the pitch?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - if you get it, why are you asking? Surely you know the rules now state that you have to actually be involved in the play, which he wasn't. If the ball had gone to him, then he would be counted offside, though the ball would be out of play anyway. It is the same reason why all the assistant's flags are now so late coming up, as they have to wait until the player actually touches the ball for them to be offside.}

07 Dec 2017 13:29:03
Didnt he play the pass though which would make him involved in the phase of play?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - is this a serious question? I am beginning to wonder now.....}

07 Dec 2017 14:51:23
It is ed. Apologies as I question things I don't fully understand. That's how I learn. I guess I'm sounding like the disruptive pupil in the class who still doesn't quite fully understand and carrys on regardless.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - no I just don't understand why you think him playing the pass when onside means he would be offside later? If all 10 other players on the side are offside it no longer matters so long as the one that scores is onside at that moment. If the player is behind the ball or the ball goes backwards, players cannot be offside, but they would be in an offside position when the ball goes in the net. It is not relevant.

Forget everyone else on the scoring player's team. All you have to look at is whether the goalscorer is offside, which he wasn't as Blind and the goalie are playing him on. Then you have to ask whether any attacking players were in the line of sight of the ball and so affecting the goalie's chance of saving the ball. There were none. So the goal stands as a good goal.}

07 Dec 2017 16:25:32
Supasub, that player wasnt interfering with play at the time.

Imagine explaining that to the Mrs.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Dec 2017 17:45:27
Separate issue, but don't you think if the attacker isn't interfering then it should be the same for the defender :D.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - no, that doesn't make any sense, everyone there has to be interfering with play and they should drop the not interfering with play thing as it is nonsense.}

07 Dec 2017 18:10:07
Thats true Ed. If one is offside no matter how close to the ball they should be offside.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - agreed as they have to be interfering with play or the defence would not bother holding a line to try and catch them off.}

07 Dec 2017 21:06:25
Ed001 that's ridicules mate. If a winger beats his man gets to the by line and cuts the ball back for his striker to finish from the six yard box then the winger that pulls the ball back would be in an off side position on the by line when his striker shoots . Or a corner taker can be often be in an offside position if a goal is scored from his corner. You can't give offside for that.

Actually the phrase interfering with play has been removed. A player will now only be deemed offside if he makes a move towards or attempts to play the ball from offside position. This is the reason we see so many of those infuriating late linesmens flags as they are waiting for the player to play or attempt to play the ball before they flag. There is a caveat that if an offside player is obstructing the keepers view and jumps over or dummies a shot the ref can give offside if he seems that the player has sought to gain an advantage from that offside position.
It's a law that needs more clarity that's for certain.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - no he wouldn't, I just said I would remove the interfering with play thing, they still wouldn't be in an offside position as the ball would be going backwards and the receiving player would be onside. A shot at goal does not count as a pass mate, so it would only be players in the keepers eye line and in the way of the ball that could potentially be offside by attempting to make it a pass.}

08 Dec 2017 07:39:35
But you agree with fzz weekend he said any player should be deemed offside no matter how far they are away from the ball.
