Hi Ed.

Already asked the question about depay. Will be leaving psv in the summer. You say not ready but could he be come the summer? Top scorer in the eredivise. Garay will leave zenit you said. Perfect fit for us??

Thanks

Garay and Depay would be too tremendous signings.

After today's results, a win tomorrow puts us 3 points behind city. Then we have Burnley at home while they travel to Stoke.
I think we all agree that we've not been at our best this season, but somehow, we have the chance to close the gap on the team above us and they happen to be City. So if that doesn't give us the incentive to go out and beat west ham tomorrow then I don't know what will!
Courage and risk is what we need from our manager, commitment, skill, effort and application is what we need from our players.
Let's hope we wake up as a team from the slumber we've been in for the past 18 months, as tomorrow's game could become the turning point.
Let's hope we don't fluff our lines!!

With amazing wit like that Belfast there is nothing I can say.

Least my dad is bigger than yours.

Agree1 Disagree0

Belfast. The trick is to win and win in style with dignity. It seems that despite the average season we're having, you're still more interested in our team than yours!

With the battle for top 4 getting more serious we will also have to keep an eye on the goal difference.

We are having trouble scoring goals but Arsenal seemed to have picked up some form.

I personally think LvG has instructed players to not take shots from distance because this could end up with us losing possession. I do not agree with this strategy if it is a strategy.

Believable1 Unbelievable7

Arsenal lost today.

Agree6 Disagree0

Not sure that is a good result for us as I would prefer it to be a 5 team race for top 4 rather than a 7 team race.

An arsenal win would have actually dropped spurs out given what they have coming. Anyway chance for us to create a bit more breathing room tomm if we win.

Agree2 Disagree1

Arsenal have an easier run as well now.

Agree0 Disagree2

GCU, I thought the same, but with Europa coming back round Spurs will probably drop a lot more points. So I'm glad of the result.

Agree5 Disagree0

I wouldn't say no to Harry Kane, is he the next shearer

Agree7 Disagree7

He was brilliant and has so many good things about his game.

Hold up play, strong in the air, work his socks off, movement and passing. Just a very good player and if Bony was worth 30 mill this boy is worth a lot more.

I reckon he will be England's defacto centre forward by the next world cup or even the European championships barring injuries.

Agree6 Disagree1

Kane & Wilson are the future for England up top. We will finally be a threat again, once players start being picked on form/potential rather than simply having high profile names (good agents)!

Agree3 Disagree0

That would be interesting to see how they play together

As I have said all along, Herrera is not playing because LVG wants Rooney to play midfield with RVP and Falcao up top. Di Maria behind the striker with Rooney, Blind and one more in the middle. I see no reason why the third in midfield couldn't be Herrera though. He is competing with Fellaini, Januzaj and Mata.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

How about simplifying things by LVG who reminds me of the mad scientist in frankenstein lol by playing rooney as number 10, dropping one of the strikers and having Herrera play in his best and natural position as a number 8.

I guess that is too much to ask when you are asking LVG to be normal and not nuts.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - You seem to be struggling with very basic children's literature. Frankenstein was the scientist.}

Fresh

Not sure why this is a new post as I assume it is a comment on the one just underneath.

I don't think we know what LVG wants as he chops and changes continually. We have ADM up front with Rooney in midfield, we have had Fellaini up front as well. We have had 3 at the back at the back, 3 at the back again and now back to a flat back 4. Danny is right, the infamous philosophy appears to change weekly.

Playing all the sexy names sounds great but gives us an unbalanced team that often appear to be like strangers. Perhaps he should start with Rooney has to play up front and Herrera has to plain midfield and then fill in the other positions.

Agree1 Disagree0

Fresh how slow is that attacking line up though? Other than Di Maria (who turns up when he wants to) there is no directness or pace to trouble any defender in the PL other than maybe Mertesacker!

Agree4 Disagree3

07 Feb 2015 13:25:38
lol Thanks Ed002. It happens when you get old.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fresh
Herrera hasn't got a game even when falcao rvp, di maria or rooney have been missing .

Agree0 Disagree0

Jmb - there would be directness if herrera was played in his natural position and not your mate Carrick slowing everything down passing sideways and backwards. That would be a start.

Agree1 Disagree4

Sparky - if Herrera plays then he needs Carrick beside him or he won't be effective at all. Your hatred for Carrick is amusing considering he has been one of our stand out performers for years now.

Just having a look through the transfer wheelings and dealings for the 2014-15 season and I have to say I am very disappointed by our new recruits at the halfway point. When you look at the rest of the high profile transfers every other teams seems to have their stellar signings performing more adequately and consistently than our own.

For instance, players such as Fabregas, Costa, Sanchez to name a few have been world beaters this year in comparison to our own Di Maria, Herrera, Falcao (who is costing mega bucks on wages as well as an initial loan fee) and Shaw who were signed at similar fees. City have also signed a proven PL goalscorer in Bony in a piece of business that ultimately costs the same as Luke Shaw.

Although Herrera has been semi frozen out by LVG and I must say I have been impressed with Blind but players such as Di Maria, Shaw and Falcao are nowhere reaching the standards of their similar market valued rivals.

Quite simply they need to step it up and justify their fees and wages to the fans.

Believable7 Unbelievable2

The reason Blind has done okay in people's eyes. Its because he doesn't have the price tag of the players you were comparing to.

Shaw has had injuries, di maria playing in different positions all the time and Falcao is coming back from a serious injury.

To see full benefits feom thesw players we would have to wait till next season if they have flopped or been a success.

Too early to judge these imo.

Agree5 Disagree1

Falcao has hardly had a run in the team but when he has he has looked our best striker, Di Maria keeps being played out of his best position, Herrera cannot get a game for love nor money even though he is our best cm, Shaw has been injured for most the season and Blind and Rojo have performed quite well in my opinion

Agree4 Disagree1

I actually think by far Rooney is our best striker. We keep making excuses about injuries and postions but at the end of the day these players are paid top dollar to excite us fans.

Look at Costa at Chelsea he plays with an injury every week and still gets the job done. We can't keep blaming injuries or the tactics, the players have a responsibility to perform.

Agree4 Disagree2

Well it looks like LvG has listened to us and has moved to put the mystery behind Herrera not playing to bed.

Rooney automatically gets a spot in the team because he is captain.

So Herrera has to compete with RvP, Falcao, Mata and Di Maria for a place in the team. With RvP and Falcao winning the places as strikers then Rooney has to be pushed into midfield. With Mata and Di Maria fighting for the No.10 spot Rooney is pushed further back. So Herrera's options are beat Mata or Di Maria to the No.10 spot or displace Rooney from midfield which LvG has said won't happen as he has said Rooney will always play as he is captain.

Well if LvG is looking for balance then maybe it might work better if he wasn't forcing square pegs into round holes just to get his big name players on the pitch.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

07 Feb 2015 09:55:19
Simple solution is two of the five big names have to leave. Falcao, Mata, Rooney, van persie, di Maria. Great options but trying to get 4 of them all on the pitch at the same time unbalances us.

Agree2 Disagree0

I read an article on Bleacher Report saying that LVG is trying to prolong Rooney's career by playing him CM and moulding him into the 'Lampard role' of picking out passes and arriving late on the edge of the box to score goals.

That may be all well and good, however :

i) We have a £30million midfielder on the bench who does the same job but better and who has bigger engine who is raring to go.

ii) Wanye doesn't have Lampard's drive and influence in the middle of the park.

iii) We have under performing strikers at the moment who could be doing with Wayne's work rate and spark upfront.

Shappy, you also alluded to the fact LVG is choosing names over performers which is worrying for me as a man of his experience and expertise should not be letting reputations cloud his judgement.

Agree5 Disagree0

07 Feb 2015 10:06:27
Would be much more balanced having Rooney in the no.10 role as he's better there than further back, then have Di Maria behind in midfield so he can pick the ball up deep and run/create which he did against Leicester, have Herrera the other side behind Rooney instead of Fellaini, instead of Januzaj, instead of Mata. He's best suited to that position more than anyone. Then Blind behind.

What a midfield that would be after a run of a few games together. LvG needs to stop changing the line up week in week out how are players meant to build up any sort of form.

Agree0 Disagree1

Having had many discussions on the subject of how we should try and get the best out of this squad of players.

Agree0 Disagree0

And this from a ruthless tactical genius with a well decorated cv.

The logic here is a little bizarre. Rooney is an excellent CF and No 10; he is not and never will be a CM and to think he can be made into a Lampard type player is incredible.

JMB got it right Rooney should be playing up front right now as he would give us more than we are seeing from RV. Herrera should be playing in midfield as he would give us more than Rooney does in that position.

VG keeps talking about balance but playing 2 strikers and a number 10 will leave us unbalanced. SAF used make some strange tactical decisions and whilst I may not have agreed with them, I understood why he did it and he was invariably proved right. Right now, I have no idea what LVG is trying to do, I see a disjointed team lacking energy and purpose with several players continuing to be picked when they are not delivering. There comes a time in every successful Manager's life when their decision making becomes questionable, perhaps we are at that point.

I'm going to stop no as I am veering towards Bea territory.

Agree2 Disagree0

This is what I mean when I say that philosophy seems to be short hand for whatever van Gaal decides to do on any given day.

We started the season with Rooney as a clear striker, the he moved back to number 10, and now he's definitely a cm. And now Fellaini is being considered as a striker instead of a midfielder too.
Herrera hasn't started even when one or more of Rooney, Di Maria and Mata haven't played. He has picked Fellaini and Januzaj instead of Herrera despite them not being anywhere near his level as a cm. Either van Gaal has a problem with Herrera or he is sabotaging the team due to incompetence. If you drop your best cm so that you can play other players out of position, then you're doing it wrong.

Agree3 Disagree0

Rooney is and always has been most effective when played up front and TOLD to stay up front the team would instantly be better and more balanced if he dropped RvP put Rooney up top and played Herrera in the middle

Agree0 Disagree0

Danny - especially if you sanctioned £30m for the midfielder. Ludicrous.

Interesting weekend as we get to watch all the teams around us play today before we play tomm.

It also allows us to see the likes of Arsenal who are on a great run against another team that is on a great run and asses their level of play. Same goes for the Liverpool as their recent from will be tested against an under performing Everton who will be up for it.

I kind of like as it allows us to understand the importance of the game tomm and depending on results we could be in 5th place tom before kicking off.

I am real curious to see how LVG sets us up and how we play. Our fixtures are going to get tougher and West ham with 6 starters are out is a must win I would think as we have already dropped too many silly points this season.

I believe we have everyone back with the exception of carrick so injuries are not an issue and hopefully he puts out a starting 11 that goes out to win the game and not protect against getting scored on.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

The thing is GCU if Arsenal and Southampton get results this weekend it will leave us in fifth place going up against the Hammers who have had a fantastic season themselsleves.

This will show the character of our team. Will they rise to the occasion to reclaim the CL berth or will heads fall and crack under pressure? Sure will be interesting!

Juan

My exact thoughts. It all well and good to beat leicester and cambrige at home with the gulf of class on the pitch but this weekend against Westham is game that needs to be won and good examination of LVG and this team.

Gcu think we will win by 3.0 will surprise quite a few.
