What's everyone's thoughts on the Jack Grealish rumours in the media.
I think he'd be a great addition in the summer.
Ed001, I remember you commenting on him recently saying he wasn't a player who you thought could play in a top club. Do you still see him as such? His recent performances have been very good.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I still haven't seen anything other than a player who takes too many touches and then dives but somehow gets given a free kick. Most of the time there is no challenge and he still gets the decision. I can't even watch Villa any more as I find it so frustrating that he is such a blatant cheat but gets away with it. I watched the first half of one of their games recently and he was not fouled once but racked up a ton of dangerous free kicks. I am not a fan in the slightest.

The lad has the ability, but not the brains. He needs to release the ball earlier. If he did, Villa would be safe.}

Not a fan either, just a purple patch for him in PL this year. scoring just 13 odd goals in 3 seasons in championship shows his level.

He's a tough player to peg. Clearly has tonnes of ability, but somehow doesn't make the most of it.

Maybe it's not having other players around him of a similar level, or maybe being the big fish in a small pond makes him look better than he is.

He needs a great coach who can get the penny to drop with him. If he can learn to use his talents in the right way for the team then he could be a top player, if not then he will always be a nearly man.

Im not sure if would be able to cope with the pressure at United. Some wilt some thrive. Can he produce special moments every week and still be 8 outta 10 for the other 88 mins.
That's what's reqired.

A good manager could take him to the next level.

I think he’s looked better than what we have and has a bit of character.

Would have to always be the question is he the best you can buy and is he better than what you have.

Tris, I think you are being overly harsh. I think he is the most fouled player in the EPL. He has huge quality but does seem to have something of a billy big boots attitude. The debate is whether he can step up at a big, club or would crumble, personally I think he would step up and be some player.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he has won the most free kicks, but almost none are actually fouls. What he does is take far too many touches and play himself into trouble and dive. When refs finally wake up and realise he is cheating, those 'fouls' will dry up.}

Won’t go for him now got Bruno.

Midfield recruitment will probably focus on Declan Rice now.

Declan Rice is still raw and not a finished product.
I feel we should go all out for SMS or Saul Niguez who is technically class.

A midfield will of Bruno, McTominay and Saul will have creativity, energy and can dominate games.

Backup options of Fred, Matic and Garner will provide good depth in terms of rotation.

Declan Rice? Really?

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Feb 2020 11:40:44
I can see the appeal of Rice. Not the player I would go for, but a good defensive midfielder with huge scope for improvement and British to boot.

Personally I would want someone who can see those defence splitting passes that can cut through a team, as well as someone who can shield the back four, break up play and track runners.

I think we need two midfielders to give us a more rounded selection. Currently we have two destructive energetic box to box players in McTominay and Fred. While Bruno Fernandes is a creative player who can score and assist.

I think we need a proper holding midfielder who'll give the midfield a base and shield the defence. someone who could set the tempo with their passing would be preferable.

While the second midfielder needs to replace Pogba, a box to box player who is creative. Someone who'll pick the ball up and dribble through the lines and break a press then have the presence of mind to make the right decision in the final third, either shoot or pass to a forward runner.

Rice a good dm? Very overrated and his future lies at cb. Not needed.

Ex United Assistant Coach Rene Meluensteen in the paper today comparing Jesse 'messi' lingard to Barcelona great Andreas Iniesta.

That would be like me comparing Susan Boyle to Charlize Theron, come on rene give it a rest lol.

Lingard is more like the fairy you put on the top of your Xmas tree. No wonder Rene didn’t last long as a manager. Lingard should be done for fraud, masquerading himself as a footballer.

I think he means stylistically, but to be fair even that is a stretch. I mean both play in the advanced midfield position, both are good at pressing from the front. However, that might be where the comparisons end. And let's not get started on quality.

Not the first to say this.

Think there’s a cult of Fergie related people who vastly inflate his ability because he looked good in the youth team. First it was he needed a bit more time to reach his footballing maturity, then it was he needed time to adapt to the EPL, then he needed to be played as a number 10, and now it’s off-field problems.

The reality is that he’s a bad player. Not an inconsistent player or a player with hidden potential, just a genuinely bad player.

Lingard played in the youth cup against leeds?

Danny I think that's a little harsh. I think he is a player with a specific skill set which is useful in certain situations but he lacks the ability to make an impact when he is denied time and space.

He has a very good record in semi-finals, finals and against top sides. He is very good at restricting the opposition and working hard off the ball. Unfortunately unless he has time and space on the ball he struggles to do much with it.

Which means against most sides that sit deeper and defend more aggressively he doesn't have that time and space and his off the ball impact is limited.

Very good squad player, but not good enough to be first choice.

07 Feb 2020 16:59:11
He is not a good squad player because he has been poor in the majority of his 199 senior games for us. A few important goals and positive performances a few years back does not change the fact that he can’t be relied on to put in a shift when required.

There is a big difference between coordinated team pressing and one player chasing the ball like an excited Jack Russell that got on the pitch. We’re talking about an attacking player that struggles to score or create, is a weak passer, an average ball carrier and, despite his pressing, rarely wins possession. He is just a bad player.

He's a poor man's ji sung Park. I feel horrible even mentioning him in the same breath as that legend. He has the legs in him to look busy, but without the end product.

Forgive me Ji!

If Jesse hasn't come through the academy he would have been gone long ago.
I don't mind him being 3rd choice for a couple of positions in the squad but he could get more game time and a new experience elsewhere and i would encourage that for him. He is a nice enough lad he always tries hard but lacks high end quality.
When the likes of nicky butt and Phil neville went elsewhere they became leaders at their new clubs i don't think jesse would be a leader anywhere but off like to see him try and do well wherever he goes.

People say he has good energy, but all I see is a headless chicken who then gives away numerous petty fouls because he can’t get the ball. i'd let him go for nowt to get him off the wage bill. Shows how far we have slipped as a club when we have some fans actually thinking he does a decent job.
