Arsenal out of the cup with neither ozil or sanchez cup tied surely aresenal will cash in on both ood them and hope to get the right players in to maintain a top 4 challenge.
They are in a tough spot it will be hard to replace those 2 in January imo. They could do worse than miki and mahrez.
I wonder their is real interest from us in ozil and if so what price would represent a good deal in people's opinion?
He would be available in all comps and could add some quality to our attacking play. He would bring great experience too.

Ozil is quality, so technically gifted, very rarely makes a bad decision when it comes to playing the right pass. I expect him to head back to Germany where he’s appreciated more. I’d love him here though. He’s a level above miki and mata.

Exactly what we lack a creative midfileder that plays the right pass at the right time.

Mark my words Ozil will disappoint. No doubting his talent and class on his day but a pure luxury. He won't press, track back, work hard (on a consistent basis anyway) and he doesn't score enough. Not what we need in my opinion. If we want any player from Arsenal then surely it's got to be Sanchez!

Good thought provoking post. Jose rated Oscar higher than Mata at Chelsea and we have that to thank for Mata joining us, but that was a few years ago and Oscar has been in semi-retirement for a while as far as I am concerned (Yes, a massive generalisation on the "money leagues" but just my opinion! ), so a no from me. Besides, we have enough players who naturally want to play as a "10", but not enough natural width.

I'd like us to sign a right winger who can cut inside, but if we sign a "10", Mezut Ozil is the one for me.

Danny, I remember reading Ozil has some of the best stats in the league for distance covered. Could you be wrong about his tracking back or is that stat misleading?

What Oezil gives you is committed running to find space, support attacks and run beyond the striker. He will run into the opposition six yard box rather than stop at the penalty spot as if there is an invisible midfielders forcefield.

In defensive transition he does the opposite. He chases back and tries to get goal side (the level of "trying" can be variable) but almost always stops around 10 yards outside the defensive area, regardless of what is happening around him.

This is the one area of his game I think he needs to step up. It's like he has a "not my job" mentality to scramble defensive situations - but if others are caught up field he needs to drop in. I'm convinced this could be corrected by a Jose type manager.

Overall I think he is an upgrade on what we have, but I would also like a wide right winger come goal scorer. Maybe Peresic? Savic?

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Jan 2018 17:27:53
Perisic is a left winger all his career and savic a central midfielder so neither if those are suitable for a rw role.

Hi eds and posters,

I'm a little behind the times but with a lot of our players in the final year of their contracts, I'm a bit lost on who has signed and who we have triggered a one year extension on. The players I am referring to notably are Shaw, Mata, Herrera, Young and Blind. Fellaini i know is ongoing.

Can anyone help? Many thanks.

I think I read that Shaw Mata Herrera and blind have been signed on for another year .
Young wants a two year deal .
And fellaini could be joining up with Jose at PSG.

All including young its reported have had the 1 year extention option triggered by the club all run till 30 June 2019.
Fellaini had his triggered last year and his runs till 30th June 2018. He is free to sign a pre contract with non epl sides to move as a free agent next July. I july he is free to talk to all clubs in the epl. I think Turkey is the most roumered destination for him if jose can't convince him to stay. But he has only started 3 league games this year so it's likely he sees his future elsewhere.

With transfer amounts being what they are now I can't help wondering what a 24 year old ronaldo would be worth in this day and age. I certainly think he was better than naymar is at this age and would imagine that he would certainly be valued higher than 200 million.

As much as Kane?

07 Jan 2018 12:58:47
Does anyone actually think kane is anywhere close to the quality of Ronaldo.

Agree7 Disagree8

07 Jan 2018 13:57:21
Maybe not Red, but he doesn’t have a massive ego and he doesn’t agitate for more money every 2 minutes. He is also scoring for fun.

Agree5 Disagree6

07 Jan 2018 14:12:32
When Ronaldo left United at the age of 24 same age Kane is now he had just scored 18 in 33 league games, Kane is on 18 in 21 games .
The previous season Ronaldo had 31 in 34 games compared to Kane 29 in 30 .
And previous to that Ronaldo had 17 in 34 league games compared to kanes 25 in 34.

You pay more for a goal scorer normally and Kane is a far better goal scorer than Ronaldo was at the same age (albeit different players ) .

Ronaldo at 24 was a very good player but he was a far better player after that age and a far better player for Madrid than he was for United.

At the same age I think Kane is right up there with Ronaldo at the time, doubt he will kick on and reach the levels Ronaldo has tho . But who knows.

Agree6 Disagree6

07 Jan 2018 15:59:32
No doubt your stats are correct Jr but what you don't factor in is the fact that we played ronaldo on the wing whereas kane has always played centrally. Doubtless if Ronnie had played cf with us he would have scored a lot more.
Finally no matter how many goals he scores kane will never be at the level that ronaldo and Messi have reached.

Agree9 Disagree2

07 Jan 2018 16:22:26
Allan that wasn't the question tho was it .
The question was how much would a 24 year old Ronaldo cost .

Ronaldo played as a very attacking player for United, was a very good player for United was amazing at Madrid tho .

But at 24 was he miles ahead of the 24 year old Kane?

Agree1 Disagree5

07 Jan 2018 16:42:11
Ronaldo at 24 had won the epl a few epl titles a ballon dor an fa cup a league cup.

Jred is correct in terms of goal scoring he has a better record than ronaldo at the same age. I think if Kane stays in the epl for the rest of his career he would be delighted to score half as many as ronaldo has done over the last 8 seadons for the next 8 years of his career.

Agree2 Disagree0

07 Jan 2018 16:53:35
Ronaldo was miles ahead of Kane . How is this even debatable?

Agree8 Disagree1

07 Jan 2018 17:16:39
Much better player was Ronaldo at that age. One things for sure, a true great player will be judged by his trophy record. Kane at 24 is quite a bit behind in terms of a 24 year old Ronaldo in that respect.

Agree4 Disagree2

07 Jan 2018 17:38:51
I don't think he was miles ahead to be honest, I bit ahead not miles tho .
Ronaldo had won more than Kane at the same age but what would kane of won if he was playing for city or Munich etc? Again a really strange way to judge a player .

Kane just scored more goals than any other player over the last 12 month, 56 in a calender year at 24 years old is some going .
19 in 20 league games for a team outside the top 4 this season .
To carry on from his 29 in 30 last year for a player who was only 23 .

24 years old, probably the best striker in the world at the moment he would go for mega mega money .
Just like a 24 year Ronaldo would .

Ronaldo continued to get better and his best days where 100% after he left United .
Will Kane ever reach the hights Ronaldo did? Probably not but at 24 there wasn't that much between them, although Ronaldo had the benifet of playing in a far better team than spurs.

Agree2 Disagree2

07 Jan 2018 18:00:20
Clubs pay a premium for goals?
Especially for a player who has proved he can do it year after year .
At 24 years old he would go for mega money .

If Kane stays at spurs is a 1 club man ( much to be admired ) but doesn't win a title he will be less of a player, than if he had moved to Celtic and won 10 titles .

What a strange way to judge a player.

Agree2 Disagree3

07 Jan 2018 19:11:06
Kane is a great plyer and I'd love us to sign him but 24 year old Ronaldo had already won the lot, including the Ballon d'or, plus don't forget the marketing factor. If Kane went for £200m, 24 year old Ronaldo would be ~£250-300m imo; silly money!

Agree0 Disagree1

07 Jan 2018 20:52:01
And getting back to the original question Allan, he’d be valued at £300 mil +. The best thing is to compare it to the latest player to leave PL for Spain and that is Coutinho.
Ronaldo scored 66 PL goals in his last 3 seasons in England compared to Coutinho scoring 30. Factor in the medals won and records broken, Ronaldo would be valued at double the price of Coutinho. Absolutely crazy money really.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jan 2018 21:12:08
Maybe judged is the wrong word Jerd, maybe more remembered better if he manages to win trophies. The greatest of players are the ones who have won numerous trophies. If Kane were to stay at Tottenham and score a load of goals but win no trophies, then yes I believe he will be judged/ remembered more for that.

But you being the all knowing might have a different view, you'd never be wrong haha.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jan 2018 21:14:39
I think Alan Shearer is a good example. Great goalscorer, one of the best and I admire him for moving to his boyhood club but he scorned many opportunities to win trophies and I think had he of made the move, he would have gone down an even greater player.

Matt Le Tiss the same, one of the best English players to play the game, what technique that lad had.

This is INSANE. Everybody could see that Ronaldo was already one of the best two or three players in the world, and was at some point going to be THE best. Perhaps ever. As good a striker as he is, no-one thinks any of that about Kane.

Kane will never win the Balon D'or. He will never be the best player in the world. He will not - 5, 10, 50, 100 years hence - be included in conversations about all time greats in the same breath as Pele, Maradona, Messi. Real Madrid KNEW that this is what they were buying. If they were buying him today? £400-500 million.

{Ed007's Note - He won the CL that year the final was rigged by the Mafia and helped fix the PL title by falling over the ball for no apparent reason.. Sounds like someone off Brookside and takes humbrage at DJ's choice of music.... One green eye one blue, walks with a stutter and talks with a limp....

08 Jan 2018 10:14:13
Kane is a great striker, Ronaldo was / is a great footballer. Ronaldo's skill level is so far ahead of Kane they aren't really comparable. Even back then. They are very different players, and to be fair to Kane, being compared to either Ronaldo or Messi isn't a fair way to judge anybody. But it's not even close. We were blessed with one of the greatest footballers to tread in a pitch and it's unlikely we'll stumble over another one in the next 20 years.

I'd still love kane to come to us though. £80m and lukaku seems like a good trade for us.
