Well that's a tough run of fixtures we will know a lot more about where our manager and our squad are after these.

But I must say I'm very much looking forward to it šŸ˜.

The Scouse bottled it tonight. I know they played a rotated side, however after suffering your first defeat you'd have thought Klopp would have tried to erase it with a win.

Losing two on the trot will certainly add a bit more pressure.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed0333's Note - yes Liverpool completely bottled it tonight like all youā€™re prima-donna players under van Gaal, Moyes and Jose.

07 Jan 2019 21:46:08
Can't disagree with you Ed, you're right some players have let the badge down. However, tonight was Liverpool's turn and I think Klopp made a mistake by not going for it.

I think it shows what happens if you make a lot of changes, players are desperate to play and impress but donā€™t take their chance. We got away with it on Saturday, tonight Liverpool faced tougher oposition and didnā€™t.

A draw would've been a better result. The replay adds another game, more pressure an klippity could've led his players in celebration.

Manchester United apparently opening talks to sign coutinho any truth in this? He's be a great addition but can't see it myself?

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware, but he is available.}

07 Jan 2019 23:23:20
Doesn't he play left of the three forwards? I think we've enough there. Should be going for a rw, a problem we've had for about 6 years now.

Heres a question - Do the players (established/ "world class") sign by the name of the club or do they sign based on the manager? For instance, a certain Zlatan wouldn't have come to United if it weren't for Jose Mourinho, neither would Matic (just a couple of examples, surely there would be more for SAF) . Also, in the past few seasons, we have been rejected by a fair few "man utd fans" who have gone on to sign for the rivals even though we offer the money. So what is it, the Manchester United name or is it the manager for who the players sign?

The reason I ask this question is suppose Ole gets the job permanently in the summer, so would the players be eager to join a reasonably unrecognizable face in managerial terms as opposed to let's say more established ones like Poch or Blanc? If it's the latter, then shouldn't the club keep that in mind when deciding the managerial future of the club?

Believable1 Unbelievable4

Why wouldn't Zlatan or Matic sign for utd without mourinho, they weren't some unattainable world class players, one is playing in MLS which is where he would have ended up had we not signed him and other is someone who was getting outclassed by fabregas of all people at chelsea.

We signed paul pogba a bigger star than either and mourinho had little to do with him signing for us rather than madrid.

CSM, buddy would you mind answering the question if you have an opinion rather than arguing on the examples. Its all in the past so we cannot really prove if zlatan and matic signed for the club or Mourinho. But if they did, why didn't they do so earlier when Zlatan was young and Matic was mobile. Anyway, the examples are what they are, please focus on the point raised. Would players want to play for Ole or Poch/ Blanc?

Agree1 Disagree2

Some people like living in the country other like living in the city, some want apartments other cottages.

Individual choice is what your asking. I don't think any player ever chooses to sign for a club based on just one particular aspect.

If Matic signed for Mourinho would be have signed for Brentford if Jose had been manager there? Probably not.

For some players they want to play for a certain manager, others want to play with certain players, some want to play in the EPL others in La Liga. Some take history and prestige of a club into account others don't. Ultimately everyone moves if the money is right.

There could be 1000 reasons why a player chooses to move to our club or chooses not to.

Ultimately if they don't want to move here then it's best they don't sign. We need players who want to be here and will fight to be here.

If they would rather be in London, or Spain then good luck to them. But they aren't the right player for us.

Players play for money and opportunities (to earn more money) . Man Utd is one of the biggest clubs and platforms showcase a player's ability.

I do agree that managers can influence and OGS or Poch would certainly appeal to players a lot more than Mou.

Agree0 Disagree1

08 Jan 2019 06:03:01
UA we never targetted matic and zlatan before, when Ronaldo signed for us in 2003 he did not reject Real Madrid and Barcelona they were never trying to sign him then.

Matic was an average joe who had 1 good season at Chelsea he has done nothing beyond that, zlatan was never needed. When zlatan signed for Juventus we had Rooney and Ronaldo, his next big move to Barcelona we had rooney and berbatov, his last big move to PSG we had Rooney and just signed RVP.

About players playing for certain managers, if we pay big money and are looking to win trophies players will come. Pochettino and Blanc aren't some big name superstar managers, one has never won anything the other hasn't got a job for 3 years now.

08 Jan 2019 06:26:06
Fair enough that Shappy and CSM. Thanks! For me personally, it would be a package really, the club and the manager.

A couple of days ago the press was rife with "United trying to sign Manolas" rumours.

Then today it turns out Roma are negotiating a new deal with him.

Sound familiar? Never trust the press, wait until a player is photographed holding up the shirt posing with the manager or chief executive. Even then don't totally trust it, I can still remember the images of John Obi Mikel in a United shirt.

As tough as it is, don't buy into it. Don't give them reason to continue printing rubbish, building up your hopes for nothing than their financial gain. Let's have a window where we ignore the press. We all know after all that we aren't likely to sign anyone this window.

The only thing of any truth or accuracy in a modern newspaper is the date and I even check that.

Apparently Roma have FFP problems and they have a business model of selling older stars and replacing them young players with potential. Iā€™m not sure how true that is so maybe somebody could correct me.

I like Manolas and at the price of Ā£36m itā€™s a good deal. But I feel we should be going for the top tier of cbs with koulibaly, skriniar, alderweireld. Signing Manolas and let's say koulibaly would be counter productive imo. Especially as it would block tuanzebeā€™s progress and game time.

But I agree with shappy, Manolas is probably angling for a new contract. Heā€™s recently signed with raiola and I wouldnā€™t want us to make the same mistake and go into bed with him again. We should have learnt our lesson from previous dealings. Unfortunately newspapers are all garbage today and the only reliable news is found on this site.

I think we all read them shaps but i think only the most naive belive them.
Today its coutinho, yesterday manolas the day before koulibaly.
The list goes on and all the way back to sniejder and all those before him.
With the internet being what it is and with twitter being what it is there is practically no credible news sources left.

LOL. there is another tonight from boot room about why Liverpool do not need to battle us for the signing of Militao as they already have enough right backs. Why buy another. because he plays CB maybe haha. 17 games played this year and all at CB. they just write what they want snappy.
