Taken straight from the chelsea page:

Its looking like all our main strike targets are moving to other clubs (most because they are money grabbers):
Falcao-Monaco
Cavani-PSG
Higuain-Arsenal
Jovetic-Juventus
Rooney-Arsenal or PSG
Lewandowski-Bayer

The Irony :D

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Jul 2013 22:46:35
we don't have an interest in Higuian and he certainly isn't moving to Arsenal for the money.

And I would be very suprised to see Jovetic actually sign for Juventus as they have just signed Tevez and Llorente. So I doubt they will sign three strikers in one window.

Agree0 Disagree0

Only Lewy out of them has ever been a target. Rooney is our player. We only asked to be kept updated about Falcao, and the others players haven't been subject to any interest from us.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not sure we have any strike targets
Jred

Agree0 Disagree0

Did anyone bother to read the beginning of the OP!

Agree0 Disagree0

My mistake missed the Chelsea page bit
Jred

Agree0 Disagree0

All three of you, in an effort to shoot him down, have missed the entire point of this post. It's ironic that a Chelsea fan said this. It's incredible how quickly this belittlement mentality has infected you all.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its taken from the Chelsea page. Its not about our targets. Please read.

Adam Dean

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha. good post.
I can't believe a chelsea fan is moaning about player being a money grabber.

Rodio17

Agree0 Disagree0

Even though this was cut from the Chelsea page and not MU related, I have to agree with Jred on this. I don't see us going for a striker in this window. I think Lewandowski was too good of an opportunity to pass up for the low fee he could have cost, so we had to consider him. As he has clearly chosen BM I think Moyes will strengthen the areas that need strengthening, for example LB, LW & central midfield.

I think Garay will come in which indirectly would strengthen our midfield. Obviously we want Thiago who would unquestionably improve our midfield and whether we go for Strootman or remain with Jones in midfield will add the much needed steel for the bigger games. Baines to finally replace Evra? I get a feeling Di Maria will go to PSG and we will sign Gaitan. Not sure if that is the best move we could make, but he is an improvement on Nani who hasn't played a lot and he is a much needed left-footed, left-winger.

So for me at this moment in time it looks like our buys could be Baines, Garay, Thiago, Strootman? & Gaitan. Although as we know things can change quickly in silly season and none of these could end up signing. In regards to the OP, it is truly amazing that a Chelsea fan could write this. Without Roman and him paying silly salaries to players, Chelsea would have been a couple divisions below us now. They were in bigger debt than Leeds.

There has always been an undercurrent of pontificating and self aggrandizement. I love this site. It's a fantastic hub for a roundup of the latest rumors. Some Cracking banter and informed footballing insights. But of late it seems to have been hijacked by a few egos vying to be our messiah.

I haven't seen Rooney post on here;-) lol. Or is he using an assumed name?

Shappy, its kloot!

I've just figured it out. it all makes sense now. kloot is Rooney!

Moyes performance on Friday was very assured and there was more than a touch of Fergie about the way he handled the press conference.

Referring to Rooney's ability to match the stature of Law and Charlton et al clearly suggests he wants him to stay. Also he gave a clear indication to the our tagets' teams that he's prepared for the long haul and he won't be panicked into paying too much for players just to secure their services quickly.

Like Fergie, every sentence seems to have been strategically thought through. I hope he also applies such cunning to his tactical approach but I'm really impressed by his start.

Good words by DM but let's see what happens with Rooney and whether he pulls his finger out of his ass, the spoilt s##t! Once, just about forgivable, twice, do one!

Read a few days back that Barca were preparing a bid for Rooney, £21 million and David Villa. It went away but I've just read it again on a different site. I don't know how I feel about it. I don't mind what Rooney does if I'm honest, he's been a decent servant but has had his nose put out of joint by RVP and his sulking could be damaging long term.

My question would be is it a good deal for United? Villa a few years back would be a great signing, but he is now in his 30s and has had a bad injury. He is also versatile though and could play in a number of attacking positions. Also, is the price right? There's obviously no re-sale value with Villa.

What do people think?

Matt

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Jul 2013 22:53:10
It won't happen but I would take that deal. Its not about re sale its about cover. We could bring in Villa as top class cover for RvP and he won't get in the way of the young strikers in the long run.

But if we sold Rooney and RvP got an injury that would keep him out for a couple of months then Villa would be vital. As although I have a lot of faith in Hernandez I would be worried with just him and Welbeck as cover for RvP.

Also I think Villa could pass on a lot of experiance like Larsson did when he was here.

Agree0 Disagree0

Villa has been a fantastic player but he is coming up 32 and still hasn't fully got over a bad injury.
I would rather give chica a chance
Jred

Agree0 Disagree0

Shappy, agree with you about the Larsen comment but I think villa as part of an interchangable front three with rvp and rooney would be pretty fearsome.

all three players are comfortable out wide and through the middle. with kagawa just behind in a 4 2 1 3, I see lots of goals!

its a system which I think would also suit wellbeck who I'm still struggling to see how he fits in at present. what would you do with him?

Agree0 Disagree0

Again, have to agree with Jred. I see no benefit of going for Villa. The whole story is nonsense, but if it was real we would have to go for Sanchez or Pedro, not David Villa. Perhaps even that Deulofeu plus cash.

Sydney!

Good evening Guys

I have been reading this site for a long time and occasionally post but recently the conversations on here have got a bit personal and on some occasions a tad boring. That said this is a banter site and everyone is entitled to their opinions. My points tonight are solely on United. Firstly I am getting a bit nervous about the Thiago situation I really hope we sign him but the longer it goes on the more it resembles Moura last season and Sneider the season before. I would like to wish Darren Fletcher the very best in his attempts to overcome his bowel condition. I was quietly impressed by David Moyes news conference on Friday and his handling of the Wayne Rooney situation was impressive. I still find it a bit weird that Fergie is not at the helm but I think DM has got what it takes to give it a good shot.

Bazza The Red

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Let's hope we can get the thiago deal sewn up as soon as possible. The only issue with united getting deals done early is that by August people on this website are moaning saying we need to buy more players. It happens every summer no matter who we have already bought.

I would think we will make another bid for baines and he will push that deal through. Going to be an exciting few weeks.

Unfortunately I have a feeling fletcher will never fully recover, a horrible shame that would be for a player who gave his all for the club. I am still hopeful but less and less expectant by the day.

I thought the press conference was all it needed to be, he said nothing controversial and came across likeable and charismatic whilst being confident but not arrogant. Hopefully he can keep this going.

Good to be back to the football and transfer chat I agree, but sometimes getting to know people on the site and finding out more about them is good too, like any little community it's nice to know your neighbours but not to know too much!

Agree0 Disagree0

Bazza

Just submitted a post saying the same thing about DM. Everthing he said seemed to be a measured approach to the achievement of a goal whether it was about getting a message to Rooney or letting other clubs know we're prepared to sit it out to get our targets.

Fergie may not be at the helm any longer but Moyes could easily have been his apprentice!

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with everything you said but the thiago deal I think it will be done in the next week or two he as only had his first press conference Friday mate and been sorting the staff and Rooney out.

Made yourself seem a bit daft here mate I'm afraid.

Shappy,

saw your post about the midfielders mate, some pretty interesting suggestions there!

Personally, as i've previously mentioned I would like to see Pedro Obiang at United one day.

I think Thiago, Carrick and Obiang would be one of the best and most effective midfield trio's in the EPL.

Anyway, I was just wondering if you've got round to seeing any games of his?

Hi Manchester United fans, I love this form, told of it by my english friend.
What do you think of your chance in european cup next season and who in you opinion are favourites for the european cup.
For me Bayern Munich (who I support) and Barcelona can win.
Next Real Madrid, 3 semi-finals in a row.
Psg are getting stronger.
Juve could be outside bet.
From Uk Chelsea mayde with Mourinho.
Arsenal and Manchester City will be happy to get out of group.
Your team will be interesting with new manager, but I think you need at least 3 high level players to get to quater final stage. Two players in midd field and a striker.
Also Vidic is big worry with injury, Rooney has lost pace, he has being offered to many clubs in europe, nobody wants him, but I still think he can come back to playing high level football.
Van Persie in good in Uk league, but in european football he is too slow.
These are my opinions, what do you think about these.
I don't live in Munich any more so don't see as many games as I would like.

Rudd

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hi Rudd

Your team is looking great and I'd agree that they and Barca will be hard to beat. Congrats on landing Pep and Goetze BTW, 2 very impressive additions to an already impressive set up.

I think you've been a little harsh on our chances though, we do need an improvement in quality but if we added 3 top players as you suggest I'd like to think we could go further than the Quarters!

We need at least one midfielder, probably 2. We don't need a striker though and RvP will be just fine! Any improvement on LB or the wings would be a great bonus once we've sorted out the midfield.

I guess there's a chance we'll struggle in Europe due to the manager's lack of experience but I'm not too worried about that given SAF is still in the background for advice and we have a squad full of players with European experience.

p. s. if we don't win the ECL then I'll be hoping you can keep the Spanish teams away from it again next year!

Agree0 Disagree0

Nobody wants Rooney? Have you not seen the quotes from players from other teams? Everybody wants Rooney!

Agree0 Disagree0

On rooney believe me no top club wants him.

Rudd

Agree0 Disagree0

Nobody wants him?

Except

jack wishere - arsenal
Neymar - Barcelona
Petr Cech - Chelsea

So are none of them 3 top teams?

Agree0 Disagree0

Nice try Rudd.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah GDS, like he says - bunch of nobodies

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah, as I pointed a week ago, why do all the top clubs and best players hold him in such esteem? They must all be stupid!
Nomidfield

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair the OP isn't too wrong. Rooney is a good player, but there are not many clubs interested in Rooney that can afford him. If Rooney became available tomorrow I'd imagine Chelsea & PSG would become interested. Maybe not PSG if they get Cavani and not Chelsea if they got any of their initial targets. So Rooney certainly isn't any team's first choice this summer. The Arsenal and Barcelona links are pure nonsense and lazy journalism. Arsenal will of course love to have their name linked to Rooney for obvious reasons. If a football player is asked about another football player they are not going to say he is sh1t. They will inevitably blow smoke up a fellow professional's ass. It means nothing. Wilshere recently named his European all-star team. Was Rooney named in that team? NO, his England team mate was not even a sub. Actions speak louder than words.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

The lad said no clubs are after him. The seemingly ever more negative fans on this page jumped on his back and named three players who are fans of Mr Rooney as a player. However, clubs have to take me into account than that he's an excellent player. Eg, deterioration, wages, age, ego etc. Players like him, Clubs don't - Is a valid hypothesis.

In my opinion, Barca, Real and Bayern won't take him. Few others on the continent will afford him. I suspect he'll be here next season. (Fit, and unplayable).

Agree0 Disagree0

Of course most clubs would want Rooney, but I doubt any of the clubs that can afford him will want him, bar perhaps Chelsea & PSG. That being said I believe Rooney will still be in the top three best EPL strikers next season. RvP, Aguero then Rooney. So if he stays at MU, we should have 2 of the best 3 strikers in the EPL.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd, that's only if Rooney plays as a striker next season.
RumourNo. 1

Agree0 Disagree0

RN1, if Rooney is still here and it's still a big if, then I would expect him to play in the hole/2nd striker position for us next season. I think MU had him earmarked for midfield if he couldn't be offloaded and we signed Lew, but with Lew not arriving and Rooney possibly staying, he will almost certainly play in the hole. At least if we sign Thiago Rooney will no longer need to drop so deep and can concentrate on staying up the field where he should be.

Sydney!

It looks like we will be signing a certain Thiago Alcantara, it just looks like a matter when. Which is great news. But we need someone who can come in and add some steel to complement Thiago's finesse. The question is who?

It looked to be Kevin Strootman, but there does seem to be something holding up that deal. Maybe PSV want more money, maybe Moyes isn't as keen on him as the old administration was. But if its not him then who?

Lars Bender has been linked, and he would be an excellent choice. But he would be pricey.

Maxime Gonalons would also be a great option, but he wants either Napoli or Real Madrid.

Victor Wanyama is another who has been linked, but he is still very raw. Maybe not ready for a top team.

Aiser Illarramendi was outstanding for Spain under 21's. And he had a great season last year too. But has he got the physical presence we need?

Ettienne Capoue is a player who i've mentioned before, and he would be a great choice, although he does have a tendancy to drift in and out of games at times.

Romulo is another one of my favourites, his reading of the game is second to none. Making him a very good modern DM, using interceptions rather than tackles to win back possession. Although not shy of a tackle when needed. His passing is a little limited but with players like Thiago, Carrick and Kagawa around we don't need an incisive passer. The only thing going against him is he has only recently returned from a bad injury.

Geoffrey Kondogbia is the latest name to be linked, he is a super talented young player, he still needs to smooth out a few rough edges but he will be top drawer.

But as always i've left who I think is best for last. Luiz Gustavo, he is being pushed out at Bayern due to the form of Schweinsteiger and Martinez, on top of that Bayern have just signed Rode and have Emre Can coming through their youth ranks. Gustavo is far too good to be on the bench, comfortable in either the holding role or as a box to box midfielder he is strong in the tackle, has great reading of the game and is an excellent passer. He is also entering his prime and could step in and make an immediate impact. Plus he should be available for a reasonable fee. For me he ticks all the boxes.

For me my first choice would be Luiz Gustavo, with Romulo second and Kondogbia third. Although I would be happy with anyone on this list.

Who do you think we should go for?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Gustavo for me as well, he is exactly what we need. I was so impressed by him and Paulinho at the Confederations Cup. He would just sit and do the ugly stuff, keep it simple when he has the ball and allow Kagawa, Rooney, Thiago, Carrick, RvP etc to do their thing.

GRD

Agree0 Disagree0

1. Aiser
2. Bender
3. Kongogbia
4. Capou

I have not seen Gustavo much to be honest as he is used very sparingly at Bayern and I prefer watching some of the other german teams to see what gems they have.

Unrelated love Draxler and top 10 player in the world for me in a few years.

I saw the under 20 world cup quarterfinal between uruguay and spain last night and would like to report on our only signing so far this summer"guillermo verela".
he played for the whole 120 minutes.
he is a strong lad and very well built.
he is also quite tall for a full back.
the most impressive thing about him is his speed and agility. last night most of the attack from spain's side were from left side and verela was really good to counter the left wingers of spanish side. he always takes on his man and many times he marked 2 players on his own.
he made numerous tackles and clearing headers which was good to see.
now to his shortcomings.
his positioning is not so good and it leads him to making dangerous challenges which might harm his team.
also he is always eager to attack much like rafael which sometimes leaves his flank open to counter attacks.
so in a nutshell he is a very good prospect who can turn into a world class fullback if he works hard on removing his shortcomings and might challenge rafael for the starting position in 2-3 years time.

He didn't play the whole 120 mins he got subbed off in the 105 min

Oh my god there are some stupid people on this site and very touchy. I said a guy who was supporting the Glazers was probably very young and because of this I get abuse from loads of kids. I will put it down to your balls dropping and hitting puberty. Just try reading what I actually say rather than react to my posts. This is a banter page don't you get it. GDS does and I give him more abuse than anybody

F*** off kloot ;)

I think sometimes it's the matter of factness about how you say things. The lad clearly was young and probably doesn't understand why the glazers are bad. Maybe educating rather than abusing was the way to go. Let people see the facts rather than the opinions and then they can make their own judgement.

I would imagine once most united fans know the facts they would see how the glazers bought the club and are not in fact good owners.

On the flip side, the points he made about the glazers not getting involved in the playing side etc are positives about them, I'm pretty sure Mancini would have preferred owners like the glazers when he was at city.

I would prefer the glazers over an abramovich sacking the manager every season etc and think the glazers could be much worse than they are. The positives the glazers have done for the club over the last couple of years regarding the brand etc are quite impressive and if they were running a business you would say they have done a good job, but the way they purchased our club and the fact this club has supporters who have been there since long before the glazers who still see united as a football club cannot be overlooked.

I hope this post wasn't too pro glazer, I am trying to deal with facts on the matter as I know opinions and loyalty to their own opinion can mean there are a lot of emotions that take over when discussing this subject.

Kloot you are at one end of the spectrum, that kid was at the other end (I would imagine without knowing all the facts) and I imagine the rest of us are somewhere in the middle as we realise there isn't actually much we can do about it without harming the club that we love.

That's exactly how I see it GDS.

Gods post GDS. I welcome kloot's posts 'cos he knows how to get a debate going.

however, kloot, you'll do your position more good by educating rather than abusing.

I don't mind 'cos I'm a big boy and I recognise its a banter site but some younger or more delicate posters might be put off using the site and we don't want that.

by all means keep up the controversy but maybe tone down the venom.

Kloot seems to know how to make this place interesting. His views are strong, but I feel most of the time, he does it to cause a stir. Quite like it if I'm honest.

dear mr gagus

ngiak totally agrees with you
once upon a time, not too long ago, this site was abuzz with mr rainfishtrombone creating a stir both within and without this group
ngiak relished both agreeing and disagreeing with the views both sane or otherwise
and the "outsider" presence was very strong previously which added spice and colour to the site
this was sadly lacking when ngiak came back
things are livening up again
although ngiak has to admit its the same thing that mr kloot has been saying over and over again to rile up people here
its oh so easy to do that! :)

Gan did you notice that when the "Chosen one" gave his press conference on Friday he spoke about himself in the 3rd person. I thought you had copyright on that. Come to think about it I have never seen you and Mr Moyes in the same room at the same tim. Is there something you want to tell us

Dear mr rainfishtrombone
looks like you are on fire on a Sunday
ngiak is amazed

I see xavi alonso is allowed to leave real for as little as 10 million. Who else thinks that this would a goid signing.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I make you right in the fact that he is an excellent player but unfortunately he has played for Liverpool and therefore should never be allowed the privilege of wearing our shirt.

There's a pic on the back of some Spanish paper of Thiago in a utd kit, dunno what it says as I don't read Spanish but its along the lines of he's off and the fee says 18million euro.
Also there's a rumour shooting around twitter that Baines was pictured getting a tour around old Trafford today, haven't seen it but i'll post the link when I do.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I can categorically state baines did not have a tour around old Trafford yesterday.
