What a great post Ed001.
I enjoyed every paragraph and word. Couldn’t stop smiling and laughing out loud. Really great article. Best I’ve read in a long time.
Do I seem to detect something? Is this your final post or something? I hope not 🙄.

{Ed001's Note - oh no mate, I used to do an 'And Finally' at the bottom of the news review if there were not enough news articles to fill it up. Then some people asked me to expand them into full articles so I have been doing it as a series of articles now. Just kept the name so people knew what it was. There are a few more of the series here mate. It is not my last.

Really glad you enjoyed and it made you laugh. That was the aim, so it is nice to succeed.}

There’s been some great posts since last night, Shappy as usual setting the standard but DLIB who is relatively new also delivering once again. I think we’ve celebrated long and hard so I’d like to I know up a few disparate things.

What on Earth is Neymar on? He’s moved to Paris and I think he realises he’s made a dreadful mistake, his comments post match were pathetic.

Lovely to see Di Maria’s face at the end, silly celebration at OT and lovely that the team he was desperate to leave dumped him out.

I know there were a lot of good performances but how much potential does Dalot have? He changed the game against Southampton and he was great again last night, so far he seems a great purchase. And a lot of people doubted Lukaku but that’s 6 goals in a week and hearing him post match he’s really keen for us to play 2 up front. I think he realises that Rashford has the shirt but instead of sulking he has delivered and how, good man.

Sometimes in desperate circumstances people have to stand up and be counted. Fred had his best game so far last night and what about McTominay? Someone posted he was ‘just a squad player’ but last night he showed what he might become. And onto my fanboy crush, the man boy that is Marcus Rashford. Balls of steel, having to wait so long to take it, PSG players trying to distract him, I love how Fred stepped in, and then taking a beautiful penalty to seal the deal.

I think that’s 9 away wins in a row which is incredible, with half a first team missing. The future does indeed look bright.

One final point, if Pogba still wants to leave after the last 2 months then he needs a head wobble. If he stays I expect Ole to make him Captain and surely he sees the potential here? If not then we move on, if you’re not on the bus, sod off.

Spot on ajh. Good post.
For me smalling was mom last night. Closely followed by any of the others.
Ole has our best players playing well and our lesser players playing above themselves. Fergie was great at that too. Very few of fergies 'lesser players' the oshea fabio etc etc excelled elsewhere even at intl level. But he could get them to be brilliant. Its a great trait for ole to have inherited.

Agree8 Disagree0

07 Mar 2019 19:55:52
Good post pal, surely Pogba has to stay. We need him to stay. I'm really excited to see Rashford, Martial, Lingard, Lindelof, Shaw and Dalot mature and grow together. Led by Pogba and with a few quality additions the potential over the next few years is very encouraging. I think we could be on the brink of seeing our next special team.

I've never thought finishing 4th is anything to celebrate but from the position we found ourselves in when Ole took over I think it would be a fantastic achievement now!

In my opinion this young team needs Champions League football so they can continue to learn and develop. Experiences such as last night are vital for building character and belief. They need to play and be tested against the best teams on the biggest occasions. Another year in the Europa would feel like a kick in the teeth after the excitement of last night.

We've got an epic few months to look forward to.

Agree3 Disagree0

07 Mar 2019 20:15:13
Smalling is infuriating, there’s a quality defender in there trying to get out. He pulls shirts and makes big mistakes but when he’s on it he looks quality. He needs to concentrate and put a proper run together, he knows how to defend, he just needs to cut out the silly stuff.

Agree2 Disagree0

07 Mar 2019 20:48:22
He is just not comfortable on the ball and the shirt pulling is an issue but he does do a steady allbeit not a spectacular job.
I still think we are short at the back.

Agree2 Disagree0

07 Mar 2019 21:16:28
Its a managers job to get the best out of his players, ole is doing that .
Smalling is a far better player than people give him credit for .
Potential of the squad is fantastic, we just need to get the best out of them.

Agree4 Disagree3

07 Mar 2019 21:50:19
Potential is there we only need to add a few and get rid of a few hangers on that make no contribution and we will be right up there challenging next season on all fronts.

Agree1 Disagree1

08 Mar 2019 01:12:55
Smalling next year with var will have to alter his game and stop grabbing players. It may be the making of him into a really top player but I bet he concedes a penalty or two before his old habit dies hard. With regard to Dalot and Scott we perhaps have to thank Jose because let's be honest most if us knew very little about them and he brought them to the first team. One other thing McKenna is a very talented young coach and his experience and knowledge of the under 23s and younger squads allied to his own coaching skill suggests he is helping Ole a lot and is a manger in waiting.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Mar 2019 02:25:08
We just need to keep on doing what we are doing.
Not long ago people wanted shaw gone, look at him now same for martial only a couple of week ago people were saying lukaku had to go .
Rashford didn't have the potential of other players his age?
The list goes on but the truth is we have a very good squad . We wil buy players but so will every other team
The squad is showing what they are capable of, they have answered question after question.

Its a managers job to get the best out of his players, ole is doing that.

Agree3 Disagree2

08 Mar 2019 02:57:54
Agree with everything you put here! Dalot especially is starting to show some real class and at 19 can only get better.

I seriously hope we sign a new RB in the summer and keep Dalot pushes higher up in that RW role. He can beat players easily and has some defensive frailties that could be excused with a good RB behind him!

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Mar 2019 17:39:14
Sure only 2 months ago you posted jose didn't make 1 good signing for the club so people will change their mind i'm assuming you have as now you rave about lindelof lukaku and dalot whom you dismissed earlier in the season as a new signing as you had a different agenda then.
Matic was finished according to you.
So things to change as form changes. Its quite natural really denis.
If you look at a painting and don't like it then you won't like it in 6 months. But a football player people don't like can regain popularity by changing and improving. Its a movable feast.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Mar 2019 17:51:16
Proud doesn't cut it.

BELIEF, PASSION AND JOY have been restored to this sleeping giant. We are back.

I hope the draw is favourable, top 4, a champions semi final and FA Cup win wouldn't be a bad year.

Ole's core squad is clear :

De Gea, Romero, Dalot, Shaw, Young, Lindelof, Smalling, McTominay, Herrera, Matic, Pogba, Lingard, Mata, Rashford, Martial and Lukaku.

The above names have all earned their place in this squad. Garner, Chong, Greenwood and Gomes supplement that. Tuanzebe could come back into the mix too.

I don't expect a mass clear out; but the remaining players are all fair game and I think we would accept offers for them if they come in, Sanchez included. Darmian, Jones, Bailly, Rojo, and Sanchez will all have their price. Andreas and Fred may have done enough after that game.

I can not wait for the day Ole gets the job and can formally build for next year. I can see a step change in our transfer policy. Players under 25 that can be moulded and peak with us. I'm excited by the rumours, De Ligt and Joao Felix being the main two.

I will stick by Bailly. I know he has a streak of rashness, but he has the tools. He is quick, aggressive, and has more ability on the ball than the rest of the backs besides Lindelof. I will keep faith in him, and that Ole can bring out the best in him.

08 Mar 2019 06:18:00
Bailey is low on confidence and is trying to do more than he should. He was 1 of our best performers in the 1st season and now suddenly people want to get rid of him. If we have been patient enough with Smalling and Jones then I think we should give Bailey some more time to prove himself. He is quick, strong and can easily bring the ball forward. His dribbling is really very good for a defender. The only problem is that he gets carried on. Due to this he can leave his position and get sucked out of position just running behind the players with the ball. It's just that aspect of his game that he needs to work on.
I've said it before that I would like to see him in a defensive mid position against some smaller team where we want to give some rest to Matic. In a game where we might dominate possession and the opposition tries to hit us on the counter. For these games Bailey will be good as he is quick and strong, he will be much more suited than Matic who is not as fast to catch the opposition.

One thing I really love about Ole is just how ready his is to defend the badge at all costs.

When asked by a reporter yesterday if this was "old school United" the cutting of his eyes was apparent. He responded with "No! This is Man It'd, not old school . we always do this, it's what Manchester United does".

Made me have goosebumps.

That is a great quote to dwell upon. Ole makes a real effort to get his players to believe in what playing for Manchester United is all about. Not back then, not now. But if you play for this club, this is what it stands for, this is our mentality.

Agree5 Disagree0

07 Mar 2019 18:56:24
We are Manchester United, Ole gets that and is part of the fabric of the club. That on its own does not make him qualified to be the Manager (there are plenty of others) but he hasn’t put a foot wrong. Every comment he makes just reinforces he is part of this club and ‘gets it’. With every passing week my estimation of him rises even further.

So here we are the morning after the night before and we are left reflecting on a results we all hoped for but none of us expected. There are a few players who rarely take any credit but who I think deserve a special mention today.
Chris "Mike" Smalling was an absolute rock last night, making so many key tackles and interceptions. A lot has been said about Lindelof and rightly so, but I thought Smalling was exceptional last night.

Fred had a shaky first 15 minutes but he grew into the game, he was everywhere and never hid, always making himself available for a pass. The way he jumped in when the PSG players were trying to put Rashford off shows great team spirit.

McTominay was immense, the way he worked so hard and was very clever when dealing with seasoned pros was a joy to watch.

Finally Shaw who has been steadily growing into a key player at LB. He shut down that flank yesterday, and considering he was dealing with such a dangerous seasoned player such as Dani Alves it shows how much he has come on.

No one let us down, Bailly struggled in an unusual position which gifted them their goal. But that is the only blemish on an otherwise phenomenal night.

I don't believe we could have won last night any other way than the way we did. With the odds stacked against us, everyone saying we had no chance, stating we would have to rewrite UCL history not just our own to qualify. That I think fired us up, I also feel it took the edge off of PSG. Make no mistake, if PSG turned up firing on all cylinders last night then we would have had a very different outcome of that match. But fight, spirit and bravery are often rewarded with what we like to call luck. PSG making simple errors to gift us a couple of goals, a penalty appeal that at best is a little soft, and certainly one we would all bemoan if it happened against us. Yet I feel the way we went about the game meant we earned that "luck". I firmly believe that you make your own luck through hard work, dedication and never giving up.

I loved how the players ran over to the fans at the final whistle and celebrated with them, it shows a togetherness and a bond that only a few months ago seemed like a huge canyon was between them.

We have our United back, the one that never gives up, that fights to the last breath and that plays for the fans. I think it is a matter of when and not if Ole gets the job now. If Ed Woodward was to give it to anyone else I suspect he would be lynched.

We have the most highly sought after yet elusive thing in football with us now, momentum. Our players believe in Ole and he believes in them, they have made us fans believe in them as well. Its moments like last night that can define a generation of players and an era at a club. Sir Alex had his "Mark Robins" moment that seemed to turn the tide in his favour. Although Ole has had nothing like what Sir Alex had to deal with. He did have his first big set back in losing the first leg 2-0 to a far superior side, yet he masterminded the most unbelievable of come backs. One which all those in the stadium will one day remember proudly "I was there that night". If he can harness the enthusiasm and belief flowing around the club and through that dressing room then we could yet see unbelievable success THIS season. The job is his and where he takes us next season I can't wait to see. I find myself wishing away the days now until our next match. Not something I would have thought even possible let alone likely 3 months ago.

Ole has us believing, Ole has restored our pride, Ole has given us back our United.

"Football - Bloody Hell"

We've had some memorable nights in our history but that must rank as one of the best and perhaps the most unlikely. No team has ever overturned a 2-0 home deficit in the first leg; well they have now!

Our great Club has been forged from heroic and Herculean type comebacks from the ashes of Munich to the hero's of 68. We will never forget the all conquering treble winners of 99. Giggs floating across the turf at Villa Park and our very own Ole sinking the Germans in the final minute. Many will still remember that balmy night in March 84 when we overturned a 2-0 deficit to overcome the great Barcelona featuring the mercurial Maradona. The list is endless and glorious.

When I think of what's changed under Ole surely the biggest factor is attitude. When we were eliminated last year Mourinho told us it was normal, that the team wasn't good enough, we shouldn't have been surprised. He reminded us of painful defeats and elimination some inexplicably by his own hand. He didn't believe in his players, he didn't believe in the Club. He made it all about him and sought to apportion blame. He never made himself accountable and this attitude eventually filtered down to the players. In the end nobody believed in him.

Ole has been a breath of fresh air. He has constantly reminded us of past standards and expectations. He has talked up the players, given them confidence and more importantly trust. Even going into this game, when nobody gave us a chance, he believed. He never made excuses, this was a chance for others he said. Man Utd always have a chance and he was right. I didn't think Pereira would play again after his mistake against Burnley but certainly wouldn't under Mourinho. We believe in him was the response, young players make mistakes. This trust and understanding allows confidence to grow and when the time comes Pereira will run though brick walls. Managers need players, even ones on the periphery. Ole has galvanised the entire squad. He's made everyone feel included. Everybody has a chance. Now there is real competition for players. Take your chance, show us what you've got, you wouldn't be here if you weren't good enough.

No doubt we are riding a crest of a wave. The place has been rejuvenated. The atmosphere against Liverpool was the best I've heard in a long time. Our away support (normally the best around anyway) was simply magnificent against Chelsea despite the game being played on a Monday night.

For this short period it feels like we have our Utd back and more. Marcus Rashford, Manc through and through, aged just 21 dispatched his penalty like a god. No doubt. Greenwood and Chong thrust into the lions den. With results comes expectation and it remains to be seen if Ole can continue to galvanise and inspire but he deserves his chance. The word thrilling doesn't do it justice.

Buckle up and enjoy the ride our season is just warming up.

I agree abt OGS not making excuses when we got beat in the home game. Well unlike some manager who seem to say that they lost due to windy stadium. LMAO
I read that some of our competitors supporters are saying OGS is not good enough and we were lucky. Fancy some of them even suggesting a drug test and an investigation on game fixing! I am really surprised that they can even think about that. What a bunch of losers. At least I know a few of them come over and have been admirable.
Anyway I just happy that we won and now to look forward to the next game and win. I hope our manager continues to be lucky and we just continue winning.

I was actually at an event in the house of commons, no tv in sight, so I got out the phone and had about 20 around it and the roars when we scored that penalty. Not sure how security didn't chuck us out, they must have been united fans too!

Onto Arsenal now for a big game too. I'm sure that we will take the 3 points and continue on our incredible form, especially away.

Amazing night, encapsulates everything the club is about - breaking records left right and centre BUT can we please focus on the big issue here.

How do I get Lukaku into the fantasy team? can't drop Rashford, too scared to drop Aguero (the only feasible option price wise) and Jimenez has ben doing well and again won't raise the funds necessary anyway.

Do I roll the dice on the 2 goal a game machine that Rom has decided to be at the risk of dropping Aguero? Everyone else will keep Aguero in so its a make or beak call for the season!

Arsenal away on the weekend and city have Watford at home. maybe keep Kun this week then bring in Rom next? ?

Help me out here guys, its the toughest managerial decision I have ever had to make.

I’m away with work and we didn’t finish until late, halfway through dinner I sneaked an iPad in and put a stream up. By the end fans of all clubs were glued to the screen.

I gave us no chance, PSG away, half the first team missing, what chance did we have? Un-be-lievable, I’m, not sure I have anything to compare to what I have just seen. Look at the team / squad we had out against one of the best teams in Europe? How on Earth did we win that game? But we did, and we have the makings of a great team here.

Ole may not be brilliant, he may just be lucky but who cares? Beat Arsenal away this weekend and what else does he have to do? Give him the job! RedMan, what say you?

He's going to get the job, there's no rush in announcing it with everything going so well. We announce it tomorrow and lose on Sunday, the media will spin a story about how the players have giving up now their mate Ole has the job.

Just like waiting for Christmas. We know what we're getting and when we can open it. No need to spoil it.

AJH, it's weird how things can pan out. We tried all different managers over the past few years and invested a lot to get United back to the top, but none worked out and suddenly Ole comes out of nowhere, gets the job in the short term and starts getting results - playing to our strengths with a positive approach. How things have turned around for us is unbelievable, the whole atmosphere at the club has been transformed and it has got everyone buzzing with confidence and excitement - which we have missed for a long long time.

As you said, "Ole may not be brilliant, he may just be lucky but who cares? ", he looks the right man for this job and it would be difficult to look past him after this.
