Ed do we maintain an interest in Cirigliano? {Ed002's Note - From more than two years ago, I doubt it.}

Hi all

We come to you for the first time in years on Sunday full of expectation rather than hope, don't get me wrong I am well aware against us would be a great place to announce to all they under estimate you at their peril in the title race.

Liverpool was a big test Dortmund much bigger still but against you at old Trafford? EPL contenders credentials don't get tested harder than this ( Greg Wallace)

I was wondering what you all think of Young's constant trying to con ref's, I know Moyse has condemned him, but do you think utd are that desperate they need him?

I think you have plenty of other amo to hurt anyone and but do you think he is a necessary embarrassment that you have to have at the moment?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hope it's a great close game, also hope we win:).
I heard Tom Daley is after another synchronised diving partner and contacted Young.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ashley young has more trunks than a herd of elephants.
Seriously though, being a gooner its in my blood to dislike Man Utd, but I have total respect for them. For the past 25 years they have been the team to beat if you have aspirations of winning the league. They go about their business in a dignified way, on and off the pitch, and have been the benchmark for professionalism for decades, but I think Ashley Young is dragging their name through the mud.
As a gooner, we are not exactly strangers to controversy, but if Young played for Arsenal I would feel ashamed to have him wear the red and white. He is sending out the message that Manchester United need to cheat to win or gain an advantage on the field as opposed to playing the great football they have played over the years.
Just my opinion but shame on you Ashley Young.

Agree0 Disagree0

Guys,

I don't think anyone on here would disagree with you on Ashley young, don't really think we need telling. As much as people go on about referees giving us decisions and all sorts of rubbish that some people actually believe (type 'is Howard Webb' in Google and look at the top 5 suggestions if you want any proof of this) we actually do not and never have won the league by cheating.

So yes Ashley young is not somebody we want at our club. Added to the fact he is a cheat his performances haven't been good enough either. As far as I'm concerned he doesn't deserve to play for our great club and is surplus to requirements.

hi guys, I really hope moyes makes it at united.poor guy has a lot of pressure on his shoulders, I feel sorry for moyes because of a lot, of people don't think he will make.but it's looking like he is starting to make the team play better then our first games and I have not seeing any longballs play so I think moyes is trying to change his style of play and that's a good ting.now he should focus on keeping rooney, rvp injury free then we will be good as long as vidic is in form and de gea, adnan but I hope he use kawaga where he will shine. shine. lol. :) hehe, anyway it is looking better and if we beat arsenal (i think. no. I know we are going to win 3-1) if do that and play rvp rooney upfront kawaga behind them and have vidic de gea and jones back rafael etc we will be fine, just hope he buy some good players.dont worry guys we are not used to being ending the season bad we always come up top, so let's we all pray that moyes will make it in utd and believe me our prayers will be heard, poor moyes is haveing a hard time and we are kicking him when he is down people with good heart don't do that so I will be one of the first to apologies to moyes and say i'm sorry sir for not believeing in u and I really really hope u can win btw I think the reason he has not won anything is because he was not at utd, but know he has a chance to atleast try to prove to every one that he can win titles with utd, even players like young, valencia, jones, etc had not won nothing before they went to united if they can then I know moyes can and he knows that so I will cross my finger both fingers and pray that he makes it but we all need to stand together so our prayers get stronger then i'm sure he will take the champions league and the league title, that will be because of us standing together guys like a red army brother/sisterhood like a big family, ggmu. united. united. come on guys it's a big game for us on sunday, have a nice day everyone zee:)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I pensonally think we looked very dangerous in our first league game against Swansea, played good attacking football and had good possession while keeping the great michu out of the game. It's since we drew with Chelsea, lost to liverpool and City is when we've looked at our worst. Especially in the City game. I do think we're only going to get better though.

Regular reader, very rarely posted. first post after I created an account.

With us and Arsenal 'warming up' in very different ways for the weekend, what are your views about the upcoming match? While we have managed to rest quite a few players, Arsenal have built up a good head of steam.

Thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

In a match of this magnitude, with 2 sides contained as much talent as the both of us, you need your key players to be well rested.

We were able to rest plenty of players, and we have significant squad depth to rely on, while Arsenal have played Liverpool and Dortmund in the space of five days, and now they have us.

Arsenal are playing better football than us atm, but we made up for the disadvantage with our key players being rested.

I think this a well balanced game that could go either way

In a way I agree mick, however I don't think it will make much difference to them as they are on a massive high at the moment and are playing well, I think its been important that we have had an unbeaten run up to this game which has given us some confidence, I think we need to start with the same team that played the 1st half at fulham but with carrick back alongside cleverley and jones moved to right back(obviously as long as all are fit). I really don't want to predict this one, we have to start on the front foot and not let them settle on the ball.

Third post of the day.

I read a few people mention "Do we trust David Moyes with the money to be spent in the market?" You see it does not matter if we trust him with the money or not. What matters is whether The Equalizer and his masters trust Moyes or not. They knew full well that the period after Sir Alex retired will be difficult for the club, something which they stressed while they listed the club on the stock exchange.

They obviously believe in Moyes, and want to give him the chance to bring the players he wants. Note that the club did not enforce Sir Alex's plans on Moyes and allowed him to choose his own targets, knowing full well that it will make for a difficult summer window, something which the equalizer stressed in part 1 of his interview.

That does not look like a corporate management that is not behind the manager, in fact, quite the opposite.

REDFAITH

I posted a few days ago that actually Woodward made it very clear that the decisions were all made by Moyes. If it goes well then Woodward and the owners benefit but it gives them leeway to deal with it if it doesn't. That is not exactly the support I would be looking for when new to a role especially such a big role. You could look on it that Woodward just took a step away from the decisions made in summer and leaves Moyes a little more exposed than he might have been.

@ Red Man

I see you mentioned Andy Mitten's comments. The "some" players for whom "the jury is still out on Moyes" will undoubtedly be the old guard from the team of Sir Alex, all of them will leave the club in a year's time. Rio, Vidic, Carrick, Evra, Giggs will all be gone soon.

If any of the younger players are among them, they will be gone too. Its not like any of us will get teary eyed if a Cleverley or a Welbeck is pushed out the door is it? The thing about Moyes is that he has brought in a fresh perspective about the squad and won't be sentimental about axing a few heads. He can't do that until the next couple of windows of course, but he will. We already know that the likes of Young, Anderson will be gone.

The issue about Zaha is simple that he gives the ball away far too many times and does not have the finesse about his game. Can't play him in Europe or the EPL imo, he needs a loan. He will play players who are ready, like Januzaj.

Its a new start under David Moyes and he will bring in the players he feels are right to change the look of this squad which seemed to have become a bit stagnant.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

REDFAITH

if it is the old guard as you describe them then perhaps we should be more rather than less concerned. Those would be players who know the quality, intensity, coaching, leadership and management needed to succeed in Europe and if they are the jury that is out we are right to be concerned

Agree0 Disagree0

@Red Man

Or perhaps they know that they won't be picked as much under Moyes as under Sir Alex?

Agree0 Disagree0

Redfaith glad you are not our manager how do you reward the likes of Welbeck and Cleverley who may not be world class but are internationals who give their all for united.

Agree0 Disagree0

@Acker

You clearly missed the point. Welbeck and Cleverley are good squad players who have done their best. As products of the United Academy I am proud to see them make it at the club. If you have read my posts from before you would know that I have supported them. But they are not world class players and just like ohea and brown, nobody will be particularly teary eyed if they are let go.

This is all a hypothetical scenario in which they might not be happy with the manager. I don't think they are unhappy, and personally I think the supposed allegations of some of the squad having "doubts" about Moyes are a big load of c**p. These players largely have just had Sir Alex manage them at club level, so its obvious that it will take time for the players to adjust to change in management for the first time.

Its sad that some use this as an opportunity to spread fear and doubt.

Agree0 Disagree0

REDFAITH

The fact that the new manager has not inspired some members of the squad should be a concern whether they are old guard or otherwise. A couple of weeks ago I posted about leadership and one aspect is sharing your vision of where you are taking things so your whole team buys in and then move forward as one. What Andy Mitten said should indicate there are short comings and that could indicate one possible reason why the team haven't shown the bounce a new manager usually brings

Boy are the doom and gloom brigade out in full force. And its the same old comments once again, without actually watching what happened on the pitch. Just form your conclusions and then try to shove the evidence within it kind of approach. Nobody seems to have seen three open chances being missed while they were not allowed as much as a sniff. A game which should have ended 3-0 ends up as 0-0 and everyone loses their minds.

Yes, Ashley Young isn't the best of players (and I know most of us don't like him including me), but he DID make a very good impact when he came on. Like it or not, he did much more in 15 mins than Kagawa did in the rest of the game on the wing, put in a cross to Van Persie which had goal written all over it and Van Persie had an off day in terms of finishing and could not finish the chance off, happens.

It WAS a penalty, yes it was soft, but he WAS pulled back by the defender and he went down. This is how it is in Europe unfortunately, way less contact is allowed and it will be given as a foul. So Young created another chance, and the penalty was missed by RVP.

Kagawa threaded a nice nutmegged pass to Chicharito who could not finish it off, for some reason. Its the Champions League and its these half chances that decide games.

A game which should have been a 3-0 win for us ended up being a 0-0 draw.

Sorry, but there is no fault at David Moyes' door for this one, his changes DID work during the game, the plan was to rest the likes of Jones, Cleverley, Carrick, RVP, and give Rafael time to recover from his injury which Moyes did. The League is more important right now so the game against Arsenal is our biggest of the season so far, win that and we are right back in the title race.

Everyone seems to be falling into the trap of "Moyes is a defensive manager and this is not what Sir Alex would have done, not how he would have played." Sorry guys, but this is exactly how Sir Alex would have approached an away tie in Europe with an eye on the Arsenal game at the weekend.

The performance was no different than what it was under Sir Alex for the last few years and it won't change until the players Moyes wants are signed by the club. We are still top of the group mind you, maybe some of you need to be reminded of it.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Look mate these sort of sensible comments are not welcome ;-)

Look every season the top teams have a blip, drop points here and there and things go wrong.

But come on guys, your team needs a proper overhaul, which has been delayed to long, it happens to all teams but for a club your size it has been left way to long. We need to replace a few of the old guard, I know that but you without doubt have the longest list of what you might call dead wood.

Your current run is off the back of poor performances against poor teams, Real Sociadad arguably the weakest team in the UCL and no matter that you had 3 great chances, you were poor against them.

I don't believe you have the players this year to do anything, like I said in a previous post, everyone wants a piece of you and Rooney giving it large in the paper about Arsenal is not doing you any favours. I'm still at a loss that some of you think he is back.

It's not the points between you and 2nd that is your problem, it's the 7 teams playing well ahead of you that's your problem.

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha welcome back marcellus, did Chelsea win a game? Back to tell us how poor we are compared to the great chelsea?

Yes all those great teams playing far better than us, cruising to a 3 point gap lol.
I would suggest out of the 7 in front only arsenal are playing consistently, I see today mour is calling out ANOTHER player this time Hazard, interesting times at the bridge, with a manager fighting any player with a bit of flair and the team being so inconsistent.
Hows those little doubts going? Still in denial?

Agree0 Disagree0

M wallace, why to you take more satisfaction from uniteds failures than chelseas success? i'm a chelsea fan btw

Agree0 Disagree0

I am begining to wonder if Wallace is a disenfranchised, former player lol

Agree0 Disagree0

The number of closet Manchester United fans is alarming. We had Blur Mayne and now the indomitable Marcellus "I get inspired by mafia movies" Wallace. Get in son! I know you can't wait to unleash your secret "I knew United would turn it around" vest. On another note, are you not fed up of regularly getting "owned" in here? So much for your love for United. Take a bow son!

Deeps. {Ed002's Note - The problem is that fans of certain clubs (specifically LFC and MUFC) simply cannot cope with good old banter. There responses head immediately toward abuse. You need to suck it up and deal with it having a smile on your face (not you specifically Deeps but the LFC and MUFC fans in general) or it'll just get cut.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Deeps u forgot the very scary anthill mob, HE used to makeme laugh

Agree0 Disagree0

Will keep that in mind ed 002 :) . I try my best not to mix banter and abuse. I know your comment was not aimed at me per say, but my apologies for any dis-tasteful replies that I may have made. I do find Marcellus' obsession with all things United a wee bit funny.

I hope the travelling isen't a huge pain anymore ed 002.

Deeps. {Ed002's Note - It is about to be, but thanks.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Marcellus, I will answer para by para

1. No arguments there, spoken sense for once haven't you?

2. Where in my post did I say that we do not need to improve? Or that the old guard need not be replaced? Please read through the posts, not a single United fan, not even the most optimistic of us are blind to that fact.

3. Over the course of the season we will play the same 19 teams at varying points of time. Comparison before having played the required 38 games is pointless.

Sociedad did not have a sniff at goal, we created 3 genuine goalscoring opportunities, rested our players for the big game at the weekend, controlled the game for large parts, how on earth was that POOR? It was an average performance which would have been good had the chances been taken. Chelsea at the weekend against, Newcastle, now that Marcellus is poor.

4. This para is, as you clearly state, your "belief" and from what I see has no resemblance to reality whatsoever. You have fallen into the trap of reading the headline, read what rooney said in full and try to comprehend and maybe you will see the light?

Is Rooney back to his best? No. That was pre 2010, he will never get to that level. But he is back to the maximum level to which he can perform with the abilities he has post 2010, suggesting otherwise is simply ignorance. Jose mourinho whom you seem to worship so blindly chased him for the best part of the summer window, I wonder why.

5. Who exactly is playing way better? I agree Arsenal are. The rest are merely blowing hot and cold and nobody has really been out of this world or consistent. I would rather say that you (and the other teams excluding Arsenal) should be worried that you have failed to establish any significant gap to a United side which has not played anywhere near the best of its abilities while you have, by your own admission been playing "well ahead".

The points have never been our problem you see, in fact that is the one thing in our favor right now. If only a 3 points gap is what you can achieve after playing "well ahead" then I feel quite confident about this season actually since I have no doubt we will improve. Thanks for giving us confidence.
