I have tears in my eyes, here Ed. Nostalgia's hanging out of me. What a player!

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - on the game anyway. It was quite depressing researching it to be honest. To have had it all and throw it away like that is such a waste of talent.}

Was he a decent player ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - only in the game. I think he was a bit of a Freddy Adu, as he was way ahead of everyone else physically at 14 but then stalled there. I think he just physically matured early which made him seem better than he was.}

Happens to a lot of players. We all played against those players at 14 who were physically superior to most and got ahead. As time went on turned out that they were pretty average.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - very true mate, they usually rely on their physicality and so never develop their ability. The smaller kids tend to work harder to improve to compensate for being behind.}

Freddy Adu! Stop it, Ed! You're killing me here. Don't forget Nicholás Millán. Bought him every game from Colo Colo, I think. Had to wait 6 or 7 years before I got to play him in my team, because of his age and work permit issues. He was worth it, though.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - got him on the list mate. He was great in the game. God I miss the old CM games, they were brilliant, FM takes itself too seriously and tries to be too realistic. They have lost the fun.}

I can highly recommend the ‘quickly Kevin’ podcast, it is all about 90s football with loads of 90s footballers as guests, one of the episodes is with one of the makers of championship manager and they have a great discussion about players such as samba that were great on the game and the thought process and scouting that goes into it all, very interesting and worth a listen if you were into the game or loved 90s football as much as I did.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I will go look that up now, thanks GDS2. I love all football.}

I had a mate who rang me up one Saturday morning,
"What's up, what's the name of that 14 year old wonderkid in champo? "

"Cherno Samba? "

"Yeah that's the one. Bye"

He knocked on my door a few hours later with a smile on his face like he'd just invented whiskey. He had "Samba" number 8 on the back of his brand new United jersey. After the slaggings he got, he only wore it once. What a plonker!

I have been racking my brains trying to think of the Colombian youngster I always bought. After nearly an hour trawling the internet, I found him. Sherman Cardenas! Bought him every year, along with the greatest British player of all time, as Ed007 well knows, John Fleck! This thread has wasted a whole Thursday for me, reading up on all the old players that never made it. Cheers, Ed01!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - John Fleck lmfao, I still see that wee nyaff now and again.}

I mentioned to couple of friends about two months ago how pogba is united's best player, and I got a lot if stick. Saying uniteds good performances (at that time) was a team effort. Right now it should be obvious how much united misses him. Since he left I've enjoyed few of out games. I hope he comes back soon he's the missing link between midfield and attack we're clearly missing.

He probably is our best player but he hasn't turned up a lot during his time here. Pogba is currently benefiting from our fixtures being harder since he got injured, a dip in confidence and the usual thing us Utd fans do and praise the people that aren't playing because those that are playing aren't doing much special. Grass is always greener.

We do it every season because we have to try and put a rational spin on why we aren't performing as well as we should be.

If Pogba had been playing and Matic missing with the same types of performances it would be Matic we are missing, or Lukaku etc. Pogba was playing better this season, but he wasn't playing great. He probably is our most important player because he has that X factor we lack all over the pitch. Martial and Rashford bring it occasionally, Miki and Mata even less often than those two - but the rest are all steady Eddie's.

I'm seeing in the news that he would be available after international break. I think everybody should forget his last season form and hopefully We'll an improvement in our midfield and overall gameplay in our next fixture.

I love ander but playing him with matic doesn't seem to be working out. They're both defensively minded and most times cannot create a good link to the attack.

I think it would be a mistake and unfair to think that our form might return when Pogba is back in the team. He will help but confidence looks low in some players.

Pogba would be a loss to any team and the sooner he is back the better. him and Matic have played a handful of games and look a great pairing in the making when we get Pogba Zlatan and Rojo back soon we will see how good we really are could go on a great run.

Would be great to have him back to give us that something different as we've looked seriously flat of late, but for me he needs to start showing he can cut it in the big games against the top teams. Yet to do so in my view. Like several others he's looked the part in the easier games but gone missing in the tough ones.
