Did anyone watch napoli vs roma?
Although napoli won 1-0 benatia had an amazing game, fully hope we go for him and if anyone sees the highlights, would agree with me.

One gentleman had been fortunate enough to see his young boy survive, and I have never smiled so much when hearing he was doing good, hope all is well down your end Chris.

Another has suffered losing their baby. Iniesta is a wonderful footballer who we all love watching and I am truly sad hearing about him and his wife losing their baby during a miscarriage.

Sometimes we can all get caught up in the rivalries in football and the comments made are sometimes too extreme. Some of us should step back and open our eyes to what is actually going on in this world.

I will be praying tonight for him and his family. Have a good week everyone.

Rooney is younger than RVP and has more EPL goals and assists. If he's played up top, barring injury, he will breeze past Sir Bobby's record and become MUFC's most successful scorer ever. So why does RVP get all the respect while Rooney gets all the criticism?

Rooney's only real crimes are a) to resent being played out of position to accommodate RVP and b) recognizing and voicing his opinion that the core issue with United has been the failure to replace old legs with players of proven international quality. We've all been saying the same thing and getting depressed about it for the last few years, so I don't find it surprising that Rooney has questioned the clubs policies and motivation. Quite frankly he was right to do so. Personally I would choose Rooney over RVP, but more important than that choice is that the squad behind him is revamped. We will not challenge the best without investing in the best.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think most people's problem with Rooney is that he's "held the club for ransom" while flirting with direct rivals (City, Chelsea). Not sure exactly what can be attributed to Rooney's own choices, his agent's or media distortion, but he complicated his relationship with the SAF, the club, and the fans.

With this being said, I would agree with your selection of Rooney over RVP if one of them had to leave. He's slightly younger and offers a greater tactical advantage to RVP because of his effectiveness in multiple positions. No doubt RVP is the better out and out striker, but I think it might be necessary for one of them to leave if United is to move forward and create a more balanced team.

Really interested to see what happens to Kagawa this summer. I think he's a fantastic player and it would be a real shame if he left without getting a good run of games in his best position to prove himself.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think most people recognise, and appreciate the fact that Rooney is a very good player. I like him as a footballer, though personally I still don't see him as up there with the best like some do.
What bugs me about him is his (and his agent, who is doing his job in fairness) apparent demands for more money. I know this is the "way of the world" now, but it just comes across as greed. I agreed with Rooney first time around about the clubs apparent lack of ambition in the transfer market. But suddenly a new contract and a huge pay rise, and those concerns dissapear? To me, that is talking double standards for his own personal gain. Basically saying "I'm not happy because the club aren't signing good enough players and lack ambition. But if you pay me more money I will be happy to stay".
Also I would question what affect his demands, and the club bowing to him, has on the other players in the squad, as well as potential signings. It would appear from the outside that Wayne Rooney always has to be "top man".
I have been more than happy with Rooney this season because he has got himself fit. But has he really earned another huge pay rise over the last 2 years? Not in my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

Seems a lot of people are forgetting, or maybe didn't even know, that George a Best did the same thing in 1968. After winning the European cup, Best said he was very unhappy at United as the team were getting old and there were no plans to replace them. All Rooney did was air his opinion which was the same, and still is, of many United fans. Perhaps it isn't just the pay rise that's making him happy. The knowledge of more signings coming in gives him hope of more medals!

Agree0 Disagree0

What I find strange is that some people are asking "why give Rooney stick and defend RVP?" and yet those same people are criticizing RVP after defending Rooney for doing something similar. Bit of consistency in peoples opinions would be good.

So yesterday I didn't notice in other set pieces but in 1 corner Evra was not in the penalty box but was on thehalf way line. Evra has been a goal threat with set pieces in the past but maybe he isn't trusted to get hack in case of a counter attack. Youguys might have observed so you can correct me if I'm wrong.
On another note how is Anderson performing on loan? I'm not much of a Italian league follower but was eagerly waiting for juve-fiorentuina game so I could see pogba vs Anderson in midfield but missed the match.

Well david moyes has come out and said that Kagawa will be playing a lot more between now and the end of the season hopefully this will not be on the wing but either on the left side of a fluid 3 of mata kagawa and Januzaj/welbeck. I really hope he takes this chance as he is a quality player and has had a rough time at United but hopefully now he can build momentum for the start of the next season where hopefully he will be a more central figure! providing he stays

What results do you expect against Liverpool? They are in great scoring form but defensively they aren't that great.

I'm going for a 2-2 draw.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Man utd 2-1 liverpool. sturridge opens the scoring early for the scousers, rooney levels just b4 half time, 90 minutes are up and were going into fergie time, rooney picks up the ball deep, pings it wide to januazaj who goes on a run up the left wing, plays the ball inside to mata who takes a good first touch and slides it threw to van persie who rifles it into the top corner, van persie then runs over to the dug out to embrace moyes with a big hug like he did with fergie at stoke and the old trafford faithfull are going wild! put that in your pipe newspapers :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Enderstretford, I think moyes will rest rooney and van persie for the big european game in midweek, which a fresh, full strenght utd team could well turn the tie around.

Agree0 Disagree0

3-1 united.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lfc never in a million years, were still fighting for 4th even though it seems impossible to some, this is Manchester United though, nothing is impossible, we will be full strength v liverpool no doubt about it!

Agree0 Disagree0

Lfc,

If we beat you, and its a big IF at the moment, that would be an 8 point gap with 9 games to go. We lost a premier league title 2 years ago from 8 points clear with 5 games to go, and our fixtures were much more straight forward than yours and Arsenal's coming up.

So let's not count any chicken yet lfc.

If you look at our away form we would be second in the league behind Tottenham! However looking at our home results only we would lie in 8th, I've never known man unite to have such a bad home record. Old Trafford used to be a fortress and now it seems like it's easy for teams to come in and steal points off of us.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Its' because we are so slow that the big pitch saps us rather than works to our advantage (like it used to when we scared teams with our pace). Players like Evra, Vidic, Rio, Carrick, Fellaini, RVP can't cover the ground (or look shattered). Mata will also not be mobile enough for our massive pitch, unless we change the way we play, which it looks like we are doing.

So we drop deeper and deeper, allowing more space. We also have players who can't pass for more than 10 yards (Jones, Smalling, Clevs, Nani, Valencia, Hernandez)and if we do play a cross field ball (Rooney) the players are slow to support leaving the recipient isolated.

I think Moyes has twigged though so things will improve.

Long time reader but 1st post, just want to say I think Kroos will be this summers Cesc! Also I want Moyes to succeed and the calibre of players were linked with hopefully points in the direction of a change in tactics and formation but if he still sets us up to not get beat in the big games then someone upstairs should have a quiet word and tell him its not the United way.

As a few of us predicted we played 4231 against Palace, we played it again, rather well, against West Brom will Moyes have the armpits to play the same against Liverpool, I have my doubts.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think we will play a 4231, Moyes took Van Persie off as he didn't want him to get a 2nd booking and miss the Liverpool game, so we can safely say that Van Persie will start against Liverpool. Rooney will 100% start and if the last two games are anything to go by, then he will play in the hole behind Van Persie. I think we can safely say that Mata will play and I think we may see Young partnering Evra down the left hand side. Carrick & Fellaini in the centre. Rafael will probably get the nod for the RB position as Liverpool have speed on their side. I think two of Vidic, Jones & Smalling will start.

You got to laugh at what's happening at city and it's down to the manager and players they think when they play small teams they just need to turn up and they win I mean look at pellegrini he always wears a suit and just because it's Wigan his wearing a hoodie and jogging bottoms I think it shows such a lack of respect for Wigan but when they play Barcelona he will be in a suit

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I thought exactly the same thing. Lack of respect, they did it against Sunderland too.

Agree0 Disagree0

What does what someone decides to wear concerns u or anyone else who actually cares what people wear, ever though that he wore all his suits and his dry cleaners are close on a sunday so he had to slum it

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh I didn't see that Sydney and such a lack of respect and reason why I mentioned it as I'm not just a Manchester United fan I'm a football fan and so glad Wigan knocked them out we'll done Wigan

Agree0 Disagree0

Until last season Moyes was wearing track pants and tees at Everton games but this season he has been wearing Suits. So does that mean he has started respecting teams now and did not respect earlier?

(Completely disagree with the above posters who say Pellegrini didn't wear a suit because he doesn't respect Wigan. One of the worst pieces of conclusion I have read on this site.)

Agree0 Disagree0

Phew. Well our treble record is safe. thank god for that :)

Looks like Arsenal's FA cup to lose.

Agree0 Disagree0

City treated it like a training session, looking at Pellegrini, so did he.

Agree0 Disagree0

The F.A. Cup is a prestigious competition, it holds the respect of all the clubs and fans, imo Pellegrini should of wore a suit to show respect for the trophy/occasion :)

But who cares really? haha. RD

What do you guys make off this

Robin van Persie to quit Manchester United.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think you've read too many red tops. I don't think RVP will 'quit' anything being as he is currently under contract.

If he has the qualities required from a Utd player he will be staying to get the team back to its rightful position as one of the best in Europe.

If he hasn't got the stomach for that then the club might decide to sell him and we will buy another centre forward.

ce la vie

Agree0 Disagree0

It seems to be gathering some momentum and hold some weight. With Rooney signing a new contract and how the team played with RVP on the pitch in comparison to off of it.

With him on he seemed to be frustrated and dis jointed from the rest of the team at times, getting few touches and failing to make much of an impact during play, admittedly his free kick for Phil Jones was very good. It seemed like we played better without him in all honesty, we moved the ball faster and more space was available as we we more fluid with Mata, Kagawa and Rooney behind Welbeck than Rooney.

Maybe its due to Welbecks willingness to go out on the wings and change position or maybe West brom were just lacking fitness towards the end of the match either way we seemed to play better without RVP.

So maybe it will happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jamax,

Or maybe we played better when he went off because we scored almost immediately and were then 2-0 up and playing with confidence.

Rvp played well yesterday, if united lose the press have loads to go at, if we win they have to find a way to bash us and rvp is the easy target at the moment.

Agree0 Disagree0

Play more fluid without him even though he's probably our best player

Agree0 Disagree0

Rooney up top on his own is more than capable.

People have very short memories.

Agree0 Disagree0

Welbeck directly replaced Van Persie and had no part in the 2nd goal. We played better because we got a two-goal cushion. All the team improved when we went 2.0 up, even the defenders were much more comfortable on the ball and more relaxed. It's the fickle football fan I'm afraid. People forget Van Persie on an "off season" has scored 14 goals in 20 appearances. Rooney is having a good season and has scored 13 goals in 31 appearances. When Rooney is having a good season we are 6th, when Van Persie is having a good season we win the league by 11 points.

Agree0 Disagree0

I might be in the minority but I honestly think van persie's best days are long gone.Dont get me wrong on his day he's top drawer but I don't believe we'll see many of them.He looks like he's lost a yard of pace & not being the quickest anyway it hinders him a lot.I also don't think he'll play another season injury free.I'd cash in now.He also looks disinterested

Agree0 Disagree0

Blackpool, Van Persie hasn't lost any pace. I am not sure where all of this nonsense has come from to be honest. He is our leading goalscorer this season even when he has spent a large amount of time on the sidelines and at times playing with painkilling injections. He has scored 14 goals in 20 appearances.

How many would he have scored playing better and playing 40-50 games?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we need to stop reading half the nonsense in the press and if we are going to make anything of this season we need our best players on the pitch.

I think Fellaini was very good now that I have seen the replay and allows our forward play to be so much more positive. Expect RVP and Rooney to score quite a few if they stay healthy.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Mar 2014 12:01:04
Wouldn't it be nice to see Januzaj, Kagawa and Mata playing in behind Rooney up front. Don't think RvP has looked as sharp or as deadly as he has before so dropping him for a game may make him change his attitude. Kagawa needs to be given game time in his best position, he would link up well with Rooney and Mata.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If we want to improve then Rooney upfront is not the way to go. If Van Persie was to leave we would need to buy a top striker like Cavani. Tall, strong and prolific.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cavani would be a good signing but I would also have no issue playing Rooney up top

Agree0 Disagree0

I would not put it past Rooney to score a hat full of goals playing up top with Mata and Kagawa behind him. This is a man whois younger than RVP and has scored more premier league goals and could well become United's record goal score. He also provides many assists. So why all the criticism? Because he acted out when SAF invested in RVP when what we needed was midfield, a point which reportedly was at the heart of Rooney's displeasure with his role last season?

As great as he can be, RVP was always going to be a short term answer to a long term problem. He was a consolation purchase after failing to land Hazard. SAF and the Board left United with an aging squad and a very below par midfield by top European standards. You, me, Rooney and the general public all know it.

Right or wrong it appears that Moyes has decided Rooney should be a career United man. And if at the end of the day he ends up eclipsing Bobby Charlton's scoring record, how could you argue with that? The key to United's success in the future will not revolve around whether its Rooney or RVP but what happens behind them both in personnel and tactics.

Agree0 Disagree0

Any striker would get a hat full of goals playing for MU. It doesn't mean Rooney is the best option. There are several better out and out strikers than Rooney around Europe, he's not even the best striker at MU, but I would say Rooney in the hole is better than all of them. Rooney is a quality number ten IMO. Rooney makes a great back-up out and out striker (like Moyes said), but if we want to be the best in Europe then you buy the best. Players like Cavani, Lewandowski, Ibrahimovic, Falcao, Costa up top with Rooney behind would be immense.

Hi guys,
good result for you yesterday. Really looking forward to the match next week. How do you feel Moyes will set up for the game. Do you think he will keep the same team as yesterday or will he go more defensive. I thought you looked more fluid when Van Persie went off but I doubt he'll drop him and think he only took him off because he was on a yellow and lucky not to be sent off. I think theirs plenty of time between our game and Olympiakos not to rest anyone. Just my opinion and I would find it hard to 2nd guess Moyes' lol.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would expect Moyes to line up to not lose, rather than try to win. I hope I am wrong, but Moyes game plans so far for United would suggest I may be right. I would not be at all surprised to see Valencia and Young (if fit) come ba k into the team to give more cover to the full backs.
Like I said, I hope I am wrong and we see an exciting, attacking game of football. And of course a United win :)

Agree0 Disagree0

I think one of Valencia and young will play I would be surprised to see both

A question for the Eds and regular informed posters re salaries. Clearly the oligarch-backed clubs such as Chelski, City, PSG, Monaco etc can pay what they want in terms of wages. Real would be added into that 'can pay anything' bracket too but what is the relative 'wages power' of other teams?

Accepting players don't just look at wages but given the 300k a week deal for Rooney and likelihood RVP is on at least 200k then if offering similar bracket wages to our top targets would we be able to treble the wages of Kroos, Vidal. Koke. Gundogan, Fabregas etc?

I strongly suspect the answer is yes but only have paper talk to go off rather than more informed sources.

I suspect we will get 3/4 players in the summer, ie LB, CB, CM (2). If RVP goes maybe a big bid for Cavani too.

I see Shaw only going to Chelsea but think we are in pole position for Kroos assuming it is a treble your wage offer we can make. Mangala seems the top-rated CB but looks City bound which is a worry lol.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I have my doubts that Rooney is on anywhere near £300k a week (salary alone) and Van Persie is on £200k a week (salary alone). Van Persie is on around £160k a week basic, but he does have large loyalty bonuses if he leaves without demanding a move.

looking forward to the summer now
i don't ever remember us needing changes like this

anyway with so many players leaving surely there will be a few of our young players making the step up

just wondering who every body thinks will be in and around the first team next season

Question for United fans;

What three players, if any, do you think have come or could have come close to the holy trinity of Best, Charlton and Law?

For me, had they played together for longer at the club, Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez could have come very close. Of course, Ronny had his reasons for wanting to go and it was almost always going to happen, we knew that. Tevez chased the money with City and Wayne is the only one left of the three. It's a shame as I think they could have been a legendary trio for us.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

With them 3 I think we wouldve excelled in europe. No question. They were excellent together. We would still have our midfield issues though, which are probably just as important.

Agree0 Disagree0

With them three and Ferguson we would have beaten Barcelona in the two finals and sorted the midfield issuses in the mean time

Agree0 Disagree0

Tevez didn't chase money, He played well for the two loan years we had him. Ferguson didn't take the offer and sign him permanently, I'd say that pissed him off to no end. I imagine he had other interested parties at the time but given the location City were his best option.

But yes I do feel they would have been an excellent trio.
