Anyone watching the arsenal game, Jefferson Montero is making Callum chambers look like a league 2 payer.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

Yeah he's so rapid.

GCU - See that great assist, haha?

Agree0 Disagree1

Who won? :))

Been a good weekend for united

Brilliant weekend, considering how badly we played what a good 3 points that was going into the break. A win at Arsenal would be huge at this point with 2 winnable home games after it we could really cement a place in the top 4 with 9 points from 9. let's hope something clicks.

Agree5 Disagree0

Welbeck will turn into Pele in the next game. Of that we can be sure. But it is up to us to eliminate the threat and create opportunities. I hope Falcao is ready by then as RVP not at his best.
Interesting which formation he'll go for.

Hi to all the wonderful edds on the site, may I ask, in January who do you think will be signed?? CB/CM are both needed? Who would you go for? For me, Joel veltman/stefano denswil and Gianni imbula?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed004's Note - I can not see there being many signings in January. Ideally we would sign a top cb like Hummels or Varane but we will not be able to sign a player like that in January. Maybe Strootman as an outside bet}

Why have. The ghostbusterw thing on my profile thingy?

Agree0 Disagree1

Errrrr!!!
Its the eds ghostbusters thing on his profile thingy.

What is happening at Dortmund this season, 10 games in and they have 7 points. Playing Borussia Monchengladbach today, who are in third and good form. Unless there is a turnaround in position and form by January I can see some of there better players seeking an exit.

Well the results have definitely gone our way this weekend so far. Arsenal loss would be great to cap it off.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Well that does complete the circle of life for this weekend. Hum Hum :)

Sometimes benching players is the best way to inspire them.
Look at Fellaini and Mata as examples.
Fellaini and Mata both changed games when they came on against west ham and yesterday resp.
I really think dropping RVP to the bench would certainly increase his desire.
Mata looked so determined. He hit the goal and crossbar since he came on.
Whereas RVP ballooned a sitter.
This is the same Mata guy who missed 2-3 glorious chances the last times he was played.
I think Mata should be undroppable now because he hits the target with great accuracy when he is in form.
I don't know if Rooney has forgotten to shoot? What the hell, his shooting has been awful since 1.5 yrs. Same goes for RVP.
I think Blind should take corners. He looks for more accurate.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

I think RVP will be dropped when Falcao is fit. As soon as he is fit I expect that he will start.

Agree2 Disagree0

Well if he does not start then you have to wonder what they were smoking when we agreed to pay 16 million for a season long loan.

When fit he is a different class and better than even Aguero, who in my opinion is the best and most complete striker in the league.

Agree5 Disagree1

Totally agree GCU a ffully fit falcao is the most complete striker in world football.

Agree1 Disagree0

Falcao unlike Aguero can do it all, head, finish with both feet, long shots and tap ins in the box. We couldn't ask for a better striker and for me has to start as soon as he can physically.

Again a dull and direction less, low effort performance by robin van persie. And one will remember" no body walks into my team just like that".
Its like SAF s statement for not buying " no value in the market"
Everyone understands including the self. what's fact and still there will be no improvement.
Again we are witnessing same boring football but this time 150m is the difference. Geling up and philosophy and all arguments can be given then what's peoples opinion of southhapmton??? That team was ripped apart and they bought new players in starting 11 as like us. but they are producing good results.
So all can be said is some lazy football with fragile back4 which needs covers from all midfielders hasn't improved even under van gaal. We won a few but after spending 150m individual brilliance is definatly we can expect.

I assure you that if southampton had the injury problems we have had they wouldn't be 4th, and also I fully expect us to finish above them. So far they have played 2 tough games, against liverpool and Spurs, and lost them both, they have a tough run coming up, I imagine we will be above them by Christmas.

Yesterday was uninspiring and boring, but sometimes you need to win games ugly to get the confidence up, most people would say we played much better against chelsea and City and got 1 point and yesterday we were quite poor and got 3 points, football is a funny old game as they say.

Agree mainly about van persie, I think LVG is hoping with a run of games he can play him into form, and he has to be careful with wilson, but I would have started wilson yesterday.

Agree5 Disagree4

We will be top by xmas. I heard that once or twice this time last year

I think Southampton look the real deal at the moment

Agree3 Disagree6

It's novemeber jred we've played majority of the tough teams with a new manager and new players.

Southampton will be found out in the next few weeks.

Just look at city how they r playin even though they r meant to ave the best 11 but they r struggling.

Agree1 Disagree1

09 Nov 2014 11:19:46
Never said top by Christmas, you are just making things up to argue with now, I just think teams like southampton year after year do well early on and once they get on a tough run start to struggle and finish around 7th or 8th, a brilliant season, but the players at southampton are not good enough to continue the full season and finish top 4.

Agree2 Disagree2

The City and Chelsea games were cagey affairs, about us nullifying them rather than attacking with any gusto. We did well defensively those games, which was nice to see, but both teams dropped off for some crazy reason. Look how City are doing against poor teams at the minute (CSKA X2, West Ham, QPR, Newcastle), granted the sending off didn't help at all, but after our bright start from 20mins on there only looked like being one winner and it wasn't us.

Who have we played GDS2? We have played the 2 big guns (we got a last second point) and a very tired and weak Everton who had just been to Russia, the rest will all be scrapping this season in mid table of less.

Southampton have shown that you can integrate the right players very quickly, they had no back bone to work from, no real money and far inferior wages, facilities, experience, starting quality etc. I don't for a second think they can maintain this, but the simple fact is at the start of the season everyone would have backed our second string 11 against the new Southampton. Our second string got battered by MK Dons.

Koeman has shown what can happen if you play to your strengths, rather than insist on changing everything in one go to play to his personal strengths. We look a mess as a result of LVG's lack of flexibility, he could have made it a working progress, not a full scale overnight change which jeopardises the whole season.

Injury crisis at the back or not, our major problem is in midfield and going forward if you ask me because most teams still sit off us. We don't create chances no matter who is playing because our formation doesn't work and our players are too slow in the main. He needs to inject some pace and energy, Wilson, Herrera need to play and we need to sign pace as well, we have too many plodders in our team - Rooney, Mata, RVP, Fellaini, Blind, Carrick - you can have a couple of slow players of course, but our first team is just far too slow, their movement is predictable and as a result we have no space to work with our quick players.

Its a royal mess - zero progress since Swansea still!

Agree3 Disagree6

Oh yeah, I know everyone was saying I loved Welbeck too much and to let it go, but honestly - Wouldn't it have been nice to have Welbeck as an option now we have moved to the 4-3-3 - he brings pace and can get goals from out wide or up top by himself. I knew selling him would bite us short term, we sold the wrong striker. LVG looking at stats and ego rather than rationale, buffoon.

Agree1 Disagree6

Southampton are playing as team look very solid at the back, clever and quick in midfield look to have got the signing of the season in pelle and are scoring goals .
But let's ignore what's going on on the pitch because its only southhampton.
the arrogance is shocking.
This time last season the same people as above where writing of liverpool and shouting united will be top by xmas.

Agree0 Disagree2

"Can get goals from out wide or up top by himself"

Beast, I don't know whether you remember but Welbeck was hardly banging them in for us was he? He was a frustrating player, good off the ball runner but his control and his finishing was non existent in 95% of the games he played for us.

Agree2 Disagree0

We won't be top but we will certainly finish as 3rd or 4th in the league.

I am not saying southampton are not good they are indeed playing well but they have less pressure to impose themselves. If southampton make a mistake they will be looked as normal thing but if they are doing well they again won't be looked at in a similar way to united or chelsea, man city.

Its just a nature of the business jred we all know southampton are doing well but that doesn't mean they will make top 4 they just don't have enough quality as us, chelsea, Liverpool, tottenham and arsenal.

I will be hugely surprised if they finished above any of those teams.

Everton were playing well last year yet they didn't end up in top4 same will go for Southampton.

Agree1 Disagree0

Singh
I would be very surprised if southampton don't finish above spurs and liverpool.
Infact you sort of prove my point.
Spurs and liverpool are both really struggling but because of there NAME people seem to rate them. Both teams have major issues

Agree2 Disagree0

09 Nov 2014 13:39:58
jred,

It is MY OPINION backed up with the facts that the two big games southampton have played so far they lost. I know they are playing well at the moment but again it is fact that often teams like southampton who start so well start to struggle when they play tougher games and have a run of defeats.

How many of last seasons top 8 have southampton played so far? How many of them games have they won?

It is in arrogant, I just don't think judging a team and saying they will finish top 4 after 11 games when they were expected to struggle pre season is the right way to go. Southampton fans won't even be expecting a top 4 finish.

Agree1 Disagree3

Gds
Who said they will finish top 4.
I think you said 8th and that we will be above them by xmas.
I think koeman is doing a good job and they look a good team better than the likes of liverpool or spurs imo.
But then again its only southampton.

As for we will be above them by xmas, i hope so but i'm not sure we will pick up 10 more points than them over the next 6 games

Agree1 Disagree0

Jred, you have to give them the benefit of the doubt . On current form southampton re ahead of Liverpool and Tottenham but season is 38 games long and looking at previous seasons backed up by what Gds has just said, that teams like Southampton usually start season in full blast but when the crunch time happens they crumble.

Id be very surprised if they finished above Liverpool or Tottenham by the end of the season on current form they deseve to be top of all of us but season doesn't end in november .

From a footballs perspective i'd be very happy if they make top 4 along with us but it will be tough for them.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Nov 2014 14:19:34
I said I imagine we will be above them by Christmas, if not then there or thereabouts. Looking at the fixtures coming up I would be disappointed if we weren't.

Apparently this time last year I was saying we would be top of the league by Christmas, I would love you to find the post where I said that, because again you are saying things that aren't true to support an argument.

Agree2 Disagree3

09 Nov 2014 14:48:01
Personally I have a lot of time for Southampton, seem to be well run, have an excellent youth set up. i'd love it if they finished above Liverpool and spurs. Just as long as we finish above all 3. Its possible but we need to start banging the wins out. A settled team with everyone fully fit would be a start.

Agree1 Disagree0

Ozwald - No doubt you are right that Welbeck was frustrating. However he was more reliable than Nani, and this season he looks ten times the player RVP and Januzaj look. He isn't great but he is an option we could do with now, he can run as well which is vital for our team currently - RVP has done nothing, Welbeck would be starting ahead of him, instead we have to wait for Falcao or rely on Wilson which LVG is not doing for some crazy reason, so much for focussing on youth out of choice!

Even if it allowed ADM to go central it would be worth sticking him on the left, but we don't have that option.

Surely even the most ardent Welbeck hater must see he would be an asset currently? GCU if you're about, do you believe we could do with Welbeck with what we have currently and the way LVG is setting us up?

Agree0 Disagree1

Beast

Welbeck does not want to play out wide and wants to play down the centre. Not in a million years is he remotely good enough to lead the line for United and his stint at Arsenal is only because Giroud has been out. When healthy giroud is a much much better than Welbeck. Also wait till Walcot is back as I would take him over welbeck any day. He is a short term thing even for arsenal until Giroud and Walcot are back.

I don't think he would make any difference as his passing and final ball is quite Poor. The reason we have looked poor last few games, is that Di-Maria who started on fire has not produced much from the left and the right wing is non existent and both Valencia and Janusaj are quite poor with their final ball.

RVP struggles when teams set up defensively and sit back and likes an open style game, where he can make runs behind the centre backs, difficult to do that when they are sitting on the 18 yard line or even deeper.

I also think Rafael at right back going forward makes us a much more balanced team. Unfortunately he has gotten the same bug as the rest and constantly injured.

Would love to have Shamus Coleman and very durable and great on both ends.

Yesterday was poor and we are now in our fourth month under this manager and we need a performance against Arsenal even if it is a draw but need to at some point make a statement by our quality of football.

Beating palace 1-0 at home is not a statement and should be automatic.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with everything you say aside from the first paragraph mate. Welbeck would be playing ahead of RVP now on form alone, he is much better than sticking with RVP until he finds form. Also he has the pace and suppleness to make things happen against packed defences. For all of his faults he is a handful and he is missed at the moment for me.

Doesn't matter anyway, it just frustrates me that we are playing ADM in the wrong position, a very poor RVP and an ineffectual Januzaj because LVG won't change things or hasn't kept enough talent in the key areas for the way he wants to play.

Obviously Welbeck isn't better than Falcao, but this season he should have been kept for precisely the reasons we are seeing now. Plus he is doing well for the Gunners, he will play ahead of Giroud for me.

Agree0 Disagree1

Giroud will play in front of welbeck imo.
You need to remember welbeck wanted to leave.

Agree0 Disagree0

Beast

The simple thing with Welbeck is would you want to depend on him scoring 20 to 25 goals for united as the main striker a season, because that is what you need to lead the line at United.

Even RVP, who had a poor second half last year and was injured for long spells scored something like 16 to 18 if I am not mistaken.

Did you see Welbeck in the first half from 8 yards out, most high quality strikers would put that away, he doesn't and there lies the problem. Anyway he is gone and Let's see if he starts when Giroud and walcot are back and healthy.

Very pleased with the results this weekend.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry but I don't get the Welbeck love in. Decent player but as has been seen he is neither a prolific scorer nor consistent. He just isn't good enough to be the number one spearhead of the United attack.

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe I haven't been clear. I definitely agree he isn't the person to lead our line guys. I am saying that he is better for us than RVP now, and was saying it before we sold him. He offers more and granted he isn't as deft a finisher, but he works harder, is quicker, creates more chances for himself and others. RVP hasn't even been finishing properly for a long time in any case, its just reputations, RVP has been living off his for 18 months.

We would be doing better this season if Welbeck started upfront instead of RVP. However he certainly shouldn't be ahead of a fit Falcao. I was lambasted for saying this pre-season, but the way this season is going I think it is justified to say that and Welbeck has been much better than RVP this season so far if you are being honest.

Agree2 Disagree5

We need to give Wilson a chance, Welbeck would only have blocked him. RVP has not been worth his place but despite Danny's pace and power he doesn't cut it in front of goal. It was time to move on

Agree1 Disagree0

This one reminded me of Monty Python's Greek Philosophers v German Philosophers - nothing happening, until Archimedes shouts Eureka and runs up and scores the one goal of the match.

The performance had a lot of similarities to last year's at OT against nominally weaker teams - a lot of possession but hardly a decent chance created. We were very lucky CP didn't take their early chance.

Personally I found it a very dull affair. It made me think that Beast's comments of late have more validity than I and others have given him credit for.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

Its all ok i'm sure gds will explain why

09 Nov 2014 09:38:31
Is it no coincidence that Carrick was CM most of the game?

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Nov 2014 10:31:55
Why the snide comments jred?

I felt we were slow and were missing a link between midfield and attack, and with Fellaini and carrick we miss the speed in getting the ball out quicker. Not sure if herrera is still struggling with his rib as for me he needed to come on yesterday, it was crying out for somebody to speed up the attacks.

The only positives from yesterday were luke shaw who was by far our best player, valencia also played very well, and the 3 points which were the most important thing after a poor performance.

We will need to be much better against arsenal and its a another good time for an international break, we are going to need the full squad fit coming up to Christmas.

Agree1 Disagree2

09 Nov 2014 10:42:08
Palace did what most weaker teams so at old Trafford, pack 10 men behind the ball and try to hold out for a point. Van persie, di Maria and januzaj all were average. let's just take the 3 points and move on.

Agree3 Disagree0

Thought Fellani was the main downfall for our performance dosen't get around as much as Herrera would he looked good in a three but not in a two he left Carrick on his own too much and that was apart from all the other being poor

Agree0 Disagree0

Fellaini was the only midfielder getting in their box trying to make something happen. Without him we would have just had Mr. Static in there, even he was coming out of the box a lot yesterday for some reason so we had nobody if Fellaini didn't amble forward - he did well. Where was Rooney as well, isn't he meant to be playing the Sneijder role, he did well at the vanishing part but not the turning up in the box part which is the most important.

Agree2 Disagree0

09 Nov 2014 13:26:29
If Falcao isn't fit by the Arsenal game which is looking unlikely then I hope we either put Rooney up front by himself or give Wilson a start. RvP needs a game or two out to make sure he starts getting his a55 into gear.
