Wilshere and Cleverley are both totally different players. Wilshere is more of the midfielder who sits back and builds up play and Cleverley is a Attacking midfielder who creates good link up play with other attackers and makes chances. It's like comparing Gerrard with Carrick, Pastore and Cambiasso, Nasri and Cabaye etc. Both play along side each other but don't do the same jobs.

Every player has their own traits, this is just like the Messi and Ronaldo debate, you cannot compare them, when they do totally different things in games.

Now stop feeding Stoner with all the debates and arguments, you are all giving him what he wants, a reaction.

So are you mate

Agree5 Disagree3

What a totally stupid and useless debate. No one knows the answer. They play in different roles. With different systems.
So pls this is boring. You're only giving stoner what he wants! So don't rise to it. Arsenal will finish with no trophies again so if Wiltshire is better than Cleverley and we win no. 20 then so be it. Its a team game.

Can we nip this in the bud if we want to carry on this debate Jack Wilshere is not injury prone he played 49 games in his first senior season how can he be injury prone.

Clg

Believable0 Unbelievable5

"Can we nip this in the bud, if we want to continue this debate" ?

What you want to do then? Nip it in the bud or continue the debate?

How about we rate Cleverley, you rate Wilshire, let's see who win more honours!

Debate ends though when Wilshire joins us or City and you start calling him Judas like your hero RVP!

Ports

Agree5 Disagree0

Exactly, in his first season. How many games has he played since? I'm not saying he is injury prone but you can't base any opinion on the fact he played 1 full season, otherwise how do you explain the fact that you lot call RVP injury prone? He has played consistently for more than 18 months.

Sydney thats probably one of the only comments youve made i can agree with but Ports come on, weak banter, your trying to get a reaction but you wont get it, just disagree with your post and can you not understand simple english? finally TK-Red Rvp went some six years of his career injured thats why he was classed as injury prone.

Clg

Agree0 Disagree2

Good job I didn't get a reaction then :)

Clg, do you know what nip this in the bud means?

Ports

Agree1 Disagree0

But your argument is that Wilshere played 49 games in his first season. For all you know this could be the start of him being injury prone so how many games he played in one season is irrelevant. RVP may have had a few injuries but has been injury free for a while now so. If Wilshere played for nearly 2 years without injury you would say he is past being injury prone would you not?

The news that Henriques has been added to the senior Chile squad is interesting. It makes it more difficult for SAF to leave him in our Under 21s for too much longer and will also make Henriques increasingly hungry to get regular first team United action so he can be selected for the main Chile team. The knock on effect is that unless Hernandez improves the rumours of a transfer in January or summer will grow especially when Will Keane is fit.

so after the game on sunday what was every1's thoughts on the MD performance?
I thought the way we started was very good to see, but the same can be said by the way they refused to be bullied out of the game.
The way rooney and cleverly covered for each other when needed was nice to see, and far from what we have been used to seeing from carrick and scholes together.
The defence stood firm and really did keep quite there forwards.
De gea part of me just want to grab this boy and shake him hard and tell him to MAN UP!!! Everything is there for him to be a worldclass keeper but he needs to control his area better because i wont be told that a PL goalkeeper cant catch a ball surely that is the first thing you learn when trying to be one!
Other than that our midfield wont be coming up again'st those md/fw bruisers again soon and will dominate most other MD playing that way, dnt get me wrong we still need a player signed or two but that was encouraging to see either way

Fergie is trying his hardest to drive suarez out of liverpool and we all know about media don't we. The way they traped suarez in evra's case that should be enough to see how fergie is targeting him. Without proper evidence our so called Fa tarnished his reputation we need to stand by him 99.9% of players are diving but why only suarez is mentioned

Ok let's be real. Jack is the best midfielder his age in the world probably, when he's on form. There's a reason he's on the front cover of various games. He's been hailed as the future captain of Arsenal and England. He's been out for a while so Man U's delusions of grandeur over their players has been allowed to develop unchallenged.

Cleverly is a good/great player. Ramsey on form simply destroys him. And Wilshere on form is by far the best of the 3. That's not biased. Also Cleverly looks like hes playing netball when he's not in possession and has half the pace the others have, half the touch, and not quite as much vision. I like Cleverly, but there's simply no contest.

Agree1 Disagree2

If I were an Arsenal fan I'd be worried if they're going to be as good as you say, if they both become world class (and they're not there yet) City, Barca, Madrid or United will tempt them away as they have with Nasri, Clichy, Van Persie, Fabragas and the midfielder who went to Madrid, i forget his name.......yes you'll get a few million for them and go out and buy some more average players to do the same again (turn them into great players and sell them on for profit WITHOUT ANY TROPHIES TO SHOW FOR IT...

Agree2 Disagree1

If Arsenal didn't sell Nasri and Cesc last season they would have made a £30m loss. Arsenal need to sell players to make a profit. Wilshere will stay at the Emirates training base for a couple more years and then he will move on like they all do.

Regular reader of the site, it really does give a great insight. Just a question for the regulars and the Ed's, how good are the current reserves? Petrucci, Lingard and Tunnicliffe in particular.
Also, the 3 academy lads, Pereira, Daehli and Janujaz, how good are they and what do you rate their chances?
Thanks

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Do people feel petrucci will never make the utd first team and drift off to italy and play for roma sampdoria
cos that would be a shame as i feel given the chance he would add more to the team than cleverley, andersson can pick out a pass good in the tackle strong good physique just wandered what people thought cjwales 82

Agree3 Disagree1

Lingard : good player, great energy and drive, good close control and decent passing, a bit similar to cleverley and does the eay stuff brilliantly without setting the world alight with his vision and dribbling.

Petrucci : Best of the bunch, and i agree with unnamed his passing and vision are eye catching, he is a good tackler and his technical ability is of the highest calibre. if not given a chance soon he might pull a Pogba on us unortunatly. cant be blamed though.

Tunicliffe : Great engine, good tackler and he litteraly covers every inch of grass on the pitch. I had my doubts over him ( especially passing and ability on the ball ) but he is an incredibly hard worker and keeps improving so my bet is that he will become a good player if given a chance, might even become better than a fit fletcher.

Mick

Agree2 Disagree0

Someone posted earlier about how important it is for our u-21 players to get loan, an experience in first team and platform for them to show how good they are.

I can't stress enough how important it is for Lingard, Petrucci, Brady(lots of talks with Wolves), Macheda, King(Molde and Newcastle are interested), Bebe and Keane to go for loan. If they don't I can't how they are ever going to break in first team apart from Brady(much better than Danny Rose, he should be on loan with Wolves) and Keane. Such a waste playing in Moss lane, when they could be playing for any lower league getting the Valuable experience, learning the physical side of game(hence developing good body strength) and a plate form for them to show how good they are.

Players like Anderson are not even getting first team, so how do you expects like of young midfielder to get any chance.

If SAF tries more diamond formation then that will definitely gives player like Tunnicliffe and Powell to slowly ease into first team with help of 2 more established and experience midfielders without having too much pressure when we play 442.
Carrick/Fletcher-Ando/Clev-Tunniclife/Powell

Once those players are on loan. Giving likes of Daehli, Periera and Januzaj play in u21 would definitely help them build the body strength and learn to deal with more physical side of players. Its not rushing their progress but rather part of their progress.

Your question of how good they are.
Well, these are sort of players(in mould of Iniesta and Xavi, I am not saying they are as good as them but if they progress right, who knows), with bags of creativity and skills, can hold the ball so well, and passing are exquisite. Was watching Daehli the other day, I think he miss pass twice the whole game. Once these player become physical in 2 years time, I can definitely see them featured in more Creative Kagawa role.
I am excited for young reds!

Red Samurai

Agree1 Disagree0

Regarding Pereira, Daehli and Janujaz (as the other replies seem to have ignored them), all three look to be special talents. It's always a risky busines making predictions about young players futures, as so many things can happen (injuiries etc) to make such predictions meaningless.

However, what I WILL say is that all rthre definitely have the potential to be someting really special. Not just 'good' players, but potentially 'great' and 'special' players (in my opinion, of course). Daehli in particular is looking terrific this season so far, he seems to have the lot - brilliant at dribbling, creates space for himself and others so easily, can both spot and deliver key passess, always making things happen, works hard for the team, quick over the ground........really excited about this lad. He also seems to be level headed and doesn't come across as a big ego type of person - so hopefully no repeat of the Morrison/Pogba shenanigans with him.

Janujaz is injured ast the moment, so hasn't featured since a couple of run outs pre season. But again he looks a hugely talented player, capabable of doing the things that special players are born with - the type of stuff that you simply can't coach into a player. High hopes for him too, and hopefully he'll be back from injury soon and can continue to progress.

Pereira also looks to have that 'x factor' in his game, such a natural talent. Still early days for him and, like the others, we need to give him time to adapt to living in a foreign country and to the English game. Goes past players easily and always looking to create.

In fact all three are terrific creative players who have the potential to go all the way. Each is massively highly rated in their home countries, with great things predicted. And we had to beat lots of other major Clubs to sign the three of them. I believe (but admit it's only hearsay, rather than true indider info) that our coaching staff wax lyrical about them too.

I just hope they avoid serious injury, continue to progress and develop, and with just that bit of luck, I reckon they have the potential to be massive stars for us.

One thing is for certain, if all 3 are fit and available the FA Youth Cup games should be interesting this year!

I have just been on the Man Utd site and Sydney says no such quote. He was very praising of Jack by saying he was naturally gifted. He did say that he isn't great at attacking or defending, but bosses the midfield. He isn't particularly known for scoring goals and he isn't our holding midfielder so in my opinion its a fair judgment. He pulls the strings in midfield, but he is no Fabregas at attacking or no Song at defending, he sort of sits in between and is a platform for attacks. He is someone we have really missed and cannot wait to see him link up with Cazorla.

I am of course not a Manch United fan, but i don't see what Cleverley brings to your team. He makes a lot of side way passes, more like a Joe Allen or Shelvey type player. What is all the fuss about Cleverley? You hype a lot of these England players, that is why England never really show anything at major tournaments. I mean even Oxdale-Chamberlain is still learning the trade, he is not yet the finished article. Wilshere has skill, an eye for a forward pass, a short turning circle. When fit, the Shelveys, Cleverleys and Chamberlains of this world can't lace his boots.

Believable3 Unbelievable5

Would you compare Busquets and Iniesta? No because they are different players. Alot of United fans rate Cleverley as we have seen him come through our ressies and a few loans and we see him all game not just the few mins on motd. He has a very high pass completion rate and he has a very good passing range averaging between 5-7 accurate long balls a game to go with his 92% pass completion. He has great vision and knows where everyone is on the pitch at any one time. His shooting is much better than he's shown so far in the league and he managed 11 goals on loan with Watford a few years ago. He has taken alittle longer to develop due to growth issues but now we are starting to see how good he can be. If he keeps clear of injuries he will be a top player for us.

I think alot of people have written him off because he is 23 but bear in mind Barca considered selling Xavi when he was 24 as he hadn't turned out as well as they'd hoped and look at him now.

Shappy

Agree7 Disagree1

Shappy so you judge him from watching him for a number of years yet all the stats r from the 9 games he has played this year
R u also trying to hint he could turn out to be as good as xavi
Simple question who's the best player wilshere or cleverly

Agree0 Disagree3

First off I can only use the stats I have available, but his stats last year were similar although he only played a handful of games last year. But in the 20 or so games he's played for us so far his stats stack up very well. I can't find stats for his loans or for youth games(i doubt anyone compiles them for youth level) so I can't use them.

As for who is better? They are different types of players playing in different roles so how whould you compare them?

As for can he be as good as Xavi? I doubt he'll be that good but that doesn't mean he can't get to that level. We'll just have to wait and see.

You've been watching Cleverley ever since he's been in our first team to compare him with Wilshere (sorry, not on first name basis with him like you!) So you regularly watch United play? What team do you support?

Watching him on TV now and again can't give you a idea of how good he is, until you see him live regularly and see him off the ball as well as on it then you cannot make comparisons.

How about you wait til we play you this season and if you do better then the 8-2 at Old Trafford result last year or 2-1 at the emirates then you can maybe come on and debate!

Oh and just for you benefit, in the 8-2, Cleverley made 69 passes in which 90% were successful, fairly influential in that game I'd suggest!

Just seen a report of Anzhi wanting Vidic and willing to spend £25+million.... If this was true and its a big IF I would bite there hand off, yes he is a world class centre back but personally, he has not looked anything like himself and I don't think he will ever look himself again.

If it was true I would use that money and spend it on a centre back... Mats Hummels world class and at a young age would be a rock in our defence for years to come..

"rooney isn't a natural midfielder. He might think he is but he isn't. And it wasn't that successful playing him there against newcastle. Try that against city, chelsea, madrid, barca or bayern and we'll come a cropper. Play him as the point of the diamond but no further back."
Mr No-namer I think you are half correct.
1: Rooney isn't a natural midfielder.
2: He did however have a good game, a very good game.
I do not think playing Rooney in midfield is the way we should play. It does not make sense to play one of the worlds great attackers in a midfield position. What we should do is buy a world class midfielder.
I'm also struggling to understand SAF's thinking. He buys Kagawa, who's best position is as an attacking midfielder, but plays him on the right wing (granted it was more central than wing) and moves Rooney into Kagawa's position.
Why not play RVP up top, with both Rooney and Kagawa behind him, one plays to the right and one to the left. This way RVP is always the one in the scoring position, rather than Wellbeck, who doesn't look like a natural goalscorer (to me). It also allows either Rooney or Kagawa to get forward without having to worry too much about defending (as Kagawa had to against Newcastle). This would also allow him to play Cleverly in the left side of midfield and a natural midfielder/winger on the right. I think this would be a more balanced team.
He could also play Rooney and RVP up top with Kagawa behind them in the hole, but this would end up with Rooney pulling back anyway, so it would end up fairly similar to the previous set-up.
So we have either 4321 or 4312.
I think that Carrick is not good enough to play as central midfielder in a 433 type formation. You ideally need a ferocious tackler with good passing skills. Yaya could not play this position for Barcelona, that is why he was sold as Busquets was a more natural defensive midfielder. Yaya is really good at playing as an midfielder when he has no defensive duties.
For Stoke I can see SAF returning to 4411 with Scholes back in midfield beside Carrick, which is a pity as I'd like him to give this new format 4/5 games to settle in and give them a chance to shine.

I noticed one thing when I came to this site. There seems to have been a lot of debate over who is better between Cleverly & Wilshere. Talent wise Wilshere has the edge but he never seems to be fit. Clevs works lot harder then Jack nd is less injury prone.

At the end of the day you sud play nd not just have talent. Just look at Ando, he also has tons of potential but can't remain fit for 10 games so his talent is of no use.

I remember the pre-season interviews with Sir Alex. Himself & United were hoping the likes of M.Keane, Brady, Cole & Lingard were all mentioned for the likes of Hull, Leicester & Blackburn ect on loan. Would playing in the Championship with any of these teams be more beneficial for their development?

What is better playing against men in front of 15,000 or in front of 400 people at Moss Lane every other week?

Petrucci was 21 just a couple of days ago & last season was behind Pogba & Morrison, even W.Keane & Cole played little cameos. This season he seems to be behind Powell, Lingard, Tunnicliffe & Brady Who got game time in the Capital One.

Also Bebe, where has he been? What has he been doing? He played last night & broke a window of a nearby house with one of his row Z shots.

Macheda & King I'm sure would be a lot happier in Italy & Norway. They surly are running out of time to break in to the first team. I believe Solksjær was at Moss Lane watching King.

Wootton's contract is running out. Would it be better to get some fee for him in January?

So in short.... I think it's the end of the road for for Mach, Brown, King, Wootton, Bebe & sadly enough Petrucci if he doesn't go on loan soon.

Who need to go on loan.... M.Keane, Brady, Petrucci, Lingard, Cole & W.Keane when he's fit after Christmas.

(keep Tunnicliffe, Thorpe & Vermijl as back up for first team)

With these above shipped out for a fee or on loan it would
help these 18's move to the 21's & get more game time.
McCollough, Blackett, Daehli, Januzaj, Wilson, Barmby. Plus Powell & Henriquez need to be playing more not just training with the first team.

TJ

Believable6 Unbelievable2

U r absolutely right, mate. If these player Mach, Brown, Cole, Lingard, King, Bebe and Petrucci doesnt go for loan, I don't see how they are ever going to progress and develop to be at Man utd standard. So it will be the end of their Manchester united Career.

I still see Keane, Wootton, Brady, Tunnicliffe and Vermijl benefiting from training with first team and playing some part in first team. Even though it will be fantastic for them to get loan, and I feel quite a lot of club would be interested in them.
IF do stick to the diamond formation. With 2 1st team midfielder, it will be wise to introduce, Powell or Tunnicliffe.

After these playering going for loan, the future midfield Maestro, Daehli, Januzaj, Periera would definitely learn to deal with physical side of under 21.

Anderson should start because Stoke are a physical team and Ando can use his body strength to good advantage. Not sure about the goalkeeper, although Lindegaard may be preferred. If Smalling is ready, he may get a start as well.

Looks like Fergie made the right decision allowing Morrison to leave, if I recall City, Chelsea, Barcelona etc were all interested according to his agent...he is now rotting on a loan deal at Birmingham with Clarke refusing to even name him in the squad.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

Clarke wants to cancel the loan deal as Morrison is so much trouble. But all parties must agree, both clubs and Morrison. I can't see West Ham taking him back until he sorts out his attitude, and Clarke doesn't want him. Morrison is just going to end up rotting somewhere. A real shame as he was a brilliant talent!

Just a couple of things.
1- it seems Morrison has let his attitude get the best of him again as the brummies want to send him back to west ham. Was a good choice in the end to get rid. But on the other hand heard pogba has been impressing at juve.

2- nani seems to be on his way which to me is a shame great talent but again wrong attitude and lacks consistency. Hope we can get more than £25 mil other wise we've got to be disappointed.

3- lastly cool to ash young in with the united fans at st James sports direct stadium or whatever that place is called.

Robbie,

Apologies for disagreeing here but I will explain.

1 - Pogba left because he wanted to, Fergie wanted to keep him. Morrison wanted to stay and we got rid, so actually we did nothing wrong with either. Anyone can see we should have got rid of Morrison, such a shame though as I was one of the people saying how amazing he could be and always thought he would grow up.

2 - I actually think Nani has the correct attitude but just lacks the talent needed. His first touch is poor and his decision making has not improved, if anything it gets worse. I get the feeling he wants to be at United, I have seen interviews with him saying how happy he is here, and I am sure he is trying, but I get the feeling he is as frustrated as everybody else by his form and is struggling to snap out of it.

3 - I agree, I love it when the players are there supporting the team and celebrating when we score, makes us feel like it is more than just a job to them (even if it isn't!). See I did agree on one point!

You're really questioning Nani's touch? Of all things? Next to Kagawa he has just about the best touch in our team!

Was meaning to put that its a shame pogba didn't stay. Not really fussed about revel as any one would normally give there right arm at a chance to play for a top team and he seems not to give a sh*t.

Nani has some unbelievable control just watch when scholes sprays a 50 yard air ball to him how he brings it down every time. The question I have about him is delivery he gets a chance to put the ball in the box 1st time but just wants to go back and beat his man again and again. Annoying but he is class.

Agree0 Disagree0

Percy,

I deliberately posted that in order to get a reaction from you, makes me laugh. His first touch isn't that bad, but the rest of my description was correct as you clearly know as you did not argue that point?

i see birmingham are wanting to send ravel morrison back to west ham after just 12 weeks of a 12month loan deal. apparently his attitude sucks big time, lets not be to harsh on fergie for letting some of these ' IM THE MAN' so called players leave. good riddance.

How can anyone say wilshire is better than cleverly atm he hasn't played for ages and he was hardly seting the world alight before his injury was he just because he is a big name at a club without many others people assume he's better he's got a lot of improving to do I'm not saying he hasn't got potential because he has but he hasn't realized it yet and one more injury would ruin his career if it is a bad one within the next year

We know this is unlikely but a swap of nani and Hernandez for falcao will be a great move. Strike force of Rooney rvp and falcao will be awesome.
If city or Chelsea get him then we might as well kiss goodbye to the league.

What do you mean? We have the two highest scorers of last season on our side, one striker cannot win you the league, as you can see we have two of the best in the world and we may be 2nd but do they win us every game?

It would be a fantastic deal, it really would. I don't see why we wouldn't try if he was available. The maximum we'd have to pay is £45 million but if we could involve players in that it could be quite something.

Fresh!

Agree2 Disagree2

If we paid that sort of money, we would have very little to spend elsewhere. This summer we will need to buy dm,cm,cm first and foremost. I also do not believe buttner is good enough for our lb and we will need to buy or hope Fabio comes back ready to take that spot.

Falcao is a luxury for the likes of PSG,City,Chelsea who have an endless supply of money.

Jake that is not true. I think Aguro is what makes city tick, without him no way they can content for the league.
