SAF has said Tunners will be in the 1st team squad. Surely this means another DM signing like fellaini is unlikely?

Dan

Believable14 Unbelievable6

The manager has made it crystal clear on several occasions that he is not in the market for a defensive midfielder. He feels they are limited and dated. We will only go for box2box midfielders.

Tunnicliffe is a very good prospect, but still excitable and raw. He could be a breath of fresh air next season, but I doubt we will start to see the best of him until the season after.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Tunniclife could turn out to be a good player but he is no where near being good enough for the prem just yet probably get a run on the bench if theres injuries and the cup games
johndenton

Agree0 Disagree0

Seen him a number of times in the reserves and he is all bluster and sliding tackles - we need players who can use the ball to - he gives the ball away too easily!
If he is the answer we better check the question.
Potential and one day spring to mind - and that's good but we need to get some first team players in or we will follow Liderpool down the table

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi syd... i know he has said this but can not see him turning down the opportunity to sign Martinez if he became available....

oxred

Agree0 Disagree0

Needs to improve all round a very good athlete and great attitude but I believe he will find it very difficult to make it at Utd hope I,m wrong
Following West Ham pre season guess who their raving about(hope we have a buy back clause)
Tiger2

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Martinez can go forward as well as be used as a centre back. SAF loves versatility but I think he will stay at Bilbao. Bilbao will have one heck of a team on there hands in a few years I'd they hold onto their players!

Dan

Agree0 Disagree0

Fellaini is a £30M player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ox, Martinez isn't a 'limited' defensive midfielder. He can play box2box and he can play CB. It's players like Mascherano and De Jong who are limited in ability and versatility.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

But Mascherano spent the last year playing at cb, how does that show a lack of versatility?

Danny Pughnited

Agree0 Disagree0

Danny, Scholes could play CB for Barcelona. Mascherano would be destroyed playing CB in the EPL.

Reports suggesting lucas moura off to united.

Believable18 Unbelievable29

As much as I want it, I just cant see it happening

Agree0 Disagree0

We're does it say this? The lads desire is inter he won't be coming sorry to say.

Agree0 Disagree0

I do not understand wy Brazilian players are so fond of Italy. Especially in the current climate. United would be perfect for him!

Dan

Agree0 Disagree0

He never said he liked Inter most. He said that a club like inter coming after him is a dream. I assume if Barca went after him it'd still be a dream. Hopefully works for United as well. -KG

Well it's clear we were prepared to spend another 25-30 mill more this summer (hazard) maybe more on top for others . However as this has failed does anyone know for sure that we are not now set with the squad and going to extend nani's contract and call it a day. We know fergie likes to get business out the way early. Don't be surprised if we're done for the summer unless we get that "value Signing " I know we expect and want more but don't put your house on it . SHANDY !

Believable20 Unbelievable6

We've got about another 2 months till deadline day. Patience boy, patience.

Agree0 Disagree0

Berbatov. Last minute signing 5 years ago. If we want a player fergie as he said "you don't just click your fingers". Some transfers take longer than others. Crewe I would imagine are easier to do a transfer than Tottenham. There is along way to go.
Redchad

Agree0 Disagree0

I think there is no real pressure on Fergie to sign anyone. The squad he has unluckily lost the title last year. They're still miles ahead of the others, chelsea, pool, gunners who need big overhauls - and they will all take a few years to gel. We'll struggle on with what we have. I expect one of Jones, Smalling, DDG, etc to step up to the plate with a big season. Vidic will be like a new signing. Nani, Roo, Carrick, Scholes are still away to good for the Norwich's, West Ham's etc of this world which are the places leagues are won and lost. New signings or not we'll be in the mix again this year.

Agree0 Disagree0

Problem is, you forget tomention city, who have a better squad than us, havent started spending yet, and have the confidenceof being champions. We were lucky last year to cling onto their coat tails at times, nevermind move into a position that we shouldnt have blown with 6 games to go, as their players panicked. I would imagine this year, city will be stronger, and unless we sign some more genuine quality we will struggle.

For me, Moutinho, RVP and Baines would help. Anderson and Berba out.

Dont really want Modric or Moura, over rated and untested respectively.

Agree0 Disagree0

Im afraid there is no problem with the original post. I fully expect City will be stronger next year if they retain their current stars. We will need to be at the top of our game 34-36 games out of 38 games next year to challenge for the title. My point was dont be surprised if we are done for the summer. Even though we know/believe we need strengthening there is nothing other than speculation suggesting we will add new recruits so don't get your hopes up as the deals were supposedly after may not go through. Have faith but dont misplace it !

PS Someone responds with with Berbatov... Im glad he started with his name as it enabled me to judge that i could discount what was coming after that. :)

United make a 28 Million bid for Lucas Moura !

-United flew in late last night to seal the deal and now have made an offer of 28 million.
-My Understanding is he wants Inter move and Inter already have a bid of 15 million turned down this Summer a long with Chelsea.

uuhh ED002?/syd? ;) {Ed002's Note - THe Chelsea offers were earlier in the year. The agent wants Inter with third party ownership. Real Madrid failed with an attempt to include a player in a deal. If Manchester United folks flew in Saturday as reported to Brazil to see his agent then they would have been disappointed as he was in Colorado.}

Believable12 Unbelievable17

Cant see moura signing we do not buy untested players for that kind of money and our track record with brazilian players isnt good. and why would fergie give valencia the number 7 shirt if we were to sign moura who incidently wears that shirt!! sorry not gonna happen.

sparkyred

Agree0 Disagree0

Sparkyred,
Firstly, may I point out that Inter has no money, as last summer and in Jan 2012 they were trying to sell that Wesley guy for over £30m to United and other interested teams.... It is reinforced with Inters own offer of £19m for Lucas Moura. Chelsea's offer was rejected because the Brazillian team wanted bids to come in from every direction to make the most of this gifted player!
Secondly United have a good track record with Brazillian players - its only Kleberson that really failed. The twins, Anderson, Perriera in the reserves have settled....
Thirdly, a number doesnt make a player... Moura and indeed any player will be proud to be play for the team they have signed for... and they will be delighted when they play in the red shirt of United.

Hi everyone

Just a quick question for the eds and Sydney!

Have you guys got any idea of the two/three players that we are likely to sign? If so, who are they?

Cheers

Philiphs93

I can answer that,no they have not,are u daft,nobody only saf + gill know anything,come on pal,jeez.

sparkyred

Agree0 Disagree0

Clyne has an offer on the table so if he chooses us then he will be sold. Baines talks have been taking place for sometime and he is very likely to join. We want Modric and we wanted Hazard, we missed out on Hazard so have an interest in Rodriguez and we also have an interest in Moutinho who we would likely look to if Modric doesn't happen. We are always looking at hundreds of players around the world, but this doesn't mean we will sign them. However the names above are the most likely as it stands, but SAF is always one to pull a rabbit out of a hat and surprise us.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Oops, that's 'signed', not 'sold'

Sydney!

We also have an interest in RVP

Dan

I said "likely" not "definitely are going to sign". Basically I wanted to get some idea about which rumours are rubbish and which rumours are based upon some fact.

I'm really sorry to have to be the one to pour water on this Moura fire, but it is completely and utterly made up gibberish.

It's all stemmed from a guy called Ashley Gray of the Daily Fail... A guy who has so far this summer reported on the following:

Vermaelen to Barcelona
Dzagoev to Spurs
Guardiola to Russia
Mancini to Russia
Redknapp to Russia
Roberto to Chelsea
De Jong to Milan
Ireland to the New York Bulls.

The guy spouts absolute rubbish and should be ignored at all costs. Why the Times have picked up on this is anyone's guess...

been informed the forward we looking to seal the deal for is eric torres to link up wit chicco again. moura isnt coming he goin to inter milan. our last 3 buys are baines, felani and torres. witsel will sign if anderson goes. lookin like a very goid summer! joey

Believable8 Unbelievable29

If it is a young striker we are looking for it will be Angelo Henriquez

fearny

Agree0 Disagree0

Baines, Fellaini and Torres do not improve the team nearly enough. None are even guaranteed a spot in starting XI.

Agree0 Disagree0

I disagree. Fellaini is the type we need, not as good overall as we'd like but good in the air. A solid signing, if not the Martinez/Moutinho/Modric we would like.

Baines the best LB in EPL thi last season, maybe the season before too.

As for Torres, barely seen anythng of him, but I didn't see us signing a forward who'd go ahead of Welbeck and Hernandez anyway.

Guys, am hearing from some friends who work for a pr firm , that the united account handlers have been told that things will be ramping up in the next 48 hours.....don't know if its transfers or other announcements but they seem to be expecting something big ..........

Believable20 Unbelievable21

Likely a statement from Ferguson stating there is no value in the transfer market and we are going to develop youngsters like Ravel Morrison, Paul Pogba and Ezekiel Fryers....KG

Lucas Moura: extract from www.ibtimes.co.uk

With Chelsea on the verge of signing Internacional midfielder and Moura's Brazil teammate Oscar and Madrid still keeping Tottenham talisman Luka Modirc as their number one midfield target, United's biggest rivals for Moura's signature will be Serie A giants Inter.

The player has already expressed his interest in moving to San Siro and also confirmed that his representatives have held negotiations with the Italians.

"They are a big club and anyone would like to play there. I am no exception. I know my father and my agent have spoken with the Inter president, but they have told me nothing yet. I can't guarantee I'll stay at Sao Paulo until the end of my deal. In football things can change very quickly and this situation is not just down to me," Sky Sports quoted Moura.

A straight fight between United and Inter for Moura's signature? Seemingly with Inter already having made first contact.

Halesini

Believable15 Unbelievable8

This is not first time we are missing star player Ronaldinho ozil Benzema to many

Agree0 Disagree0

Just the papers talking nonse, how do we know that RM wouldn't pull out of the race for Modric and turn to an alternative if it meant they could get Moura?

Also I remember an Ed saying AC Milan would have troubles signing Ganso due to non European player quota? Would Inter not have this problem for a different player from the Brazilian league or is it based on international appearances?

Ozwald {Ed001's Note - it is based on how many non EU players they have on their books, they have a limit in Italy.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I keep hearing and seeing these quotes but am still to see anything linking him to us!!

To add to this Sao Paulo chairman laughed out inter's first bid of 23mil euro and said how can you offer this when are player is clearly worth a lot more. Have Inter got the money?

Agree0 Disagree0

Ahh i see, thanks for clearing that up ed001! I'm guessing Inter aren't at their limit then yet otherwise chasing Lucas would be a lost cause ha.

I read down the page Sydney that you think that Evra may be sold? I don't see this being at all likely. Evra and Baines is good left back cover, now we all know that Evra has lost it, but we need him at the club while Fabio gets experience and proves his fitness on loan at QPR. Fryers is off and Blackett isn't ready. If Evra was to be sold, then that would imply that perhaps Baines and someone like Willems would be bought? This would not be fair on Fabio as it would seem that regardless of how well is loan move goes...he would be sold as we have Baines, Willems and Blackett? I don't see Evra going anywhere until next summer when Fabio is back and becomes either the first or second choice left back...then hopefully a couple of years down the line Fabio and Blackett will both be world class.

RedDevil19

Believable12 Unbelievable7

Can't see Evra being sold this season given Fabio has been loaned out. Surely the plan is Baines as first choice LB with Evra as competition in 1213.

When Fabio returns from QPR we would have 3 players capable of playing LB hopefully with Evra in his final year. That would be more logical point to sell Evra, i.e July 13 window. I suspect we will let his contract run out though (ends June 2014).

Halesini

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think we'll spend 15m on a backup LB.
If baines comes he'll be first choice.

Vicky

Agree0 Disagree0

Blackett is definitely a star for the future, but with baines as well, I can only see Fabio being sold or playing more as a winger.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree RD, can't really see Evra leaving this summer. Also I wouldn't want Willems to block Fabio/Blackett's progress TBH

The worry is IF Evra is sold and Baines brought in it might be that SAF will use Johnny Evans as LB cover (really hope not) with Blackett as additional cover, as Fryers was this season. Like I said - I really wouldn't want this as Evans is a CB not a LB and Blackett probably won't be ready...but then we all know how stubborn SAF can be and how much trust he puts into our squad players to do a job for him (e.g. Evans at LB)

I'm sorry but I refuse to believe we are about to spend upwards of 30 million on an unproven Brazilian youngster, bearing in mind we have not had a successful Brazilian player to date. And if we did, then why the hell not spend that money on Martinez, who is a much better fit for us and would complete our midfield.
SqueakyBum

Believable26 Unbelievable5

Only thing that makes me slightly believe in all this Moura talk is the fact that we WERE in for Hazard but missed out on him as everyone knows. Lucas Moura is a similar player, great attacking flair and pace about him with an eye for goal, the other thing is the price. If we were going to spend £30m on Hazard that same budget could be spent on his alternative Moura?

IMO i couldn't give much of a toss since the signing of Kagawa because he will add a lot as well as allow our already super talented forwards to concentrate on their game infront of goal. I'd be much more happy for us to bring in a CM someone such as Moutinho, Modric, Cabaye. It's very likely we will too. Anderson being injury prone/struggling to prove his true ability. Fletcher has major health concerns. Pogba has left, Scholesy has one year left likewise Giggsy. That leaves us with Carrick and Cleverz with potential from the academy such as Tunnicliffe!

I hope we spend a large amount of money to bring in a decent CM rather than someone like Moura to be honest.

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

SqueakyBum

I agree with you....to much of a risk for the money, I would rather us spend 25 million on Moutinho.

Just an interesting argument here, Jesus Jorge has apparently said that Nico Gaitan will be sold. We did have a gentlemans agreement on him for his transfer, so I still think that the move is quite possible - probably more likely than a move for Lucas Moura. With Jorge hinting that he will be sold and Mendes being Gaitan's agent, a move is quite possible if we can agree a fee as apaprently all of the personal terms were verbally agreed...Of course other clubs such as PSG and Barca were interested, but for some reason I believe that its us that will go in for him if he is to be sold.

RedDevil19

Believable4 Unbelievable9

I think we have a gentleman's agreement in place for Gaitan and believe he is on his way to us. Sounds like we had a similar 'agreement in principle' with Kagawa agreed last year.

Gaitan would be a good addition to our midfield for sure.

I suspect bids for Gaitan, Moutinho and Baines will be forthcoming whereas Moura may be more of a fishing expedition. If we do get Moura all well and good as its great to be linked with possible future superstars appreciating he's only 19.

Me thinks there needs some players sold though if we were to get in another 3 or 4 players. Berbatov, Anderson, Nani are the obvious choices though the latter is allegedly looking at a new contract. I still think Nani is on the way out.

As far as I remember the players which SAF has watched we have signed them.
Kagawa was immediately signed when SAF watched him in Cup final, elsewhere Powell was signed before the playoffs where he scored the brilliant goal and was watched personally by SAF.However these news was disclosed 2weeks later.
The only deal didnt go through was Hazard, and even he was been watched by SAF.wasnt he?

Suddenly Moutinho and lucas moura rumours are creeping up and united delegates moving to Brazil gives an impression of something gonna happen for sure.

Manchester United are stepping up their £30million bid for Sao Paulo midfielder Lucas Moura amid competition from Inter Milan.

United want to tie up a deal ahead of the player joining Brazil's Olympic squad.

SAF wants to add RVP to his attack! Wants to get him quickly due to the high interest from Big Clubs like City and Juve. Likely to have a £20million opening bid as RVP only has 1 year left. However if RVP deal doesn't happen, likely to try and give Mario Gomez or Huntelaar a go

Believable13 Unbelievable3

United will not buy any of these. RVP is 29,injury prone not worth 25m and 8-10m per year wages. Gomez's style will not suit United and again I can't see us paying a lot on a striker and Huntalaar is rubbish. We need to put our money in the midfield with one if not 2 good midfielders. maybe Anderson plus 12m for Witsel and 22m on Mountinho and 12m on Baines to strengthen up the left back position. If we do buy a striker it will be Ba for 7m. That would be the best side of 50m on top of sales. Kagawa is more a second striker, so we'll have 4 strikers anyway, 2 midfielders and a left back would be just what we need. Powell is one for the reserves and the subs ch and league cup. Kagawa, Powell, Baines, Moutinho and or Witsel would be great.
