Cadena Cope very well respected Spanish newsstation report Thiago has agreed to join Bayern as Pep told him Javi Martinez will play as a CB and that he will get plenty of oppurtunities in the midfield terms agrees at 4 mil euros a year

If he chose Bayern. what a waste.
He'll be without a place in the Spain's team to the World Cup AND will go hunt for another club in just a year.

Unfortunately this would not surprise me at all! I don't know what it is with United's transfer dealings but we always seem to drag things out whenever we are linked with the real top players (Hazard, Moura, Sneijder etc) and then either an agreement couldn't be reached or another team gets involved and gets the deal wrapped up almost immediately.
Every close season I get excited when we are linked with the cream of Europe and beyond and then as time goes on my optimism slowly fades into a mixture of disappointment and frustration as each target gradually get crossed off the list for one reason or another!
Somebody really needs to get their finger out in United's dealings (unless this really is a ploy to sell season tickets) and get some quality midfielder reinforcements that the team desperately needs, yes we won the league at a canter last season but that was down to the poor form of our rivals rather than out excellence (let's not forget how poor our form was at the end of the season).
I really fear that without two or three quality signings, forget about losing out on the title, we could struggle to get top four which would have major repercussions.
So please Mr Moyes etc give us what every United fan craves, quality signings and not a summer of lame excuses.
Rant over and fingers crossed,
Born a Red Devil

This looks like to be true. Some papers suggesting that Alcantara is just one step from signing with Bayern. Shame that we have lost so much time on him. Hope we got some ace in our pocket.

You hit the nail on the head with the season tickets! When they're sold out we'll get the 'no quality in the market place'We were told we'd do our business very early this transfer window, so it looks like Moyes is the glazers yes man and zaha and varela might be our main signings!

I hate to admit this but I agree with the pessimisim. If we were going to get Thiago it would have been done by now. Massive shame as I think this guy would have been a perfect fit for us, and us for him. I guess Bayern will be shifting a few midfielders in the summer to make room for him, and what a force they will be next year when Lewandowski joins as well. I really hope we have a midfield backup option, but I just don't know what's that would be?
Agree0

Sadly this is probably true, the only signings we'll be making are baines and fellaini unfortunately.
Agree0

The blinkers need to come off, all this talk about window only just opening is rubbish. Yet again we have missed out on one of our main targets. Pep has confirmed in press conference that he wants Thiago, and that is all he wants, so he will be off to bayern and we will end up paying over the odds for some pony player. Same old story.

Robbo we will end up signing Fellaini for 24m! He cannot pass the ball more than twenty yards and is about as creative as a lampost! Still at least we won't need a midfield when we get Baines to hump long croosfield balls to Fellaini!!!

Quit whinging bazza, we haven't missed out yet as he is still on holiday and hasn't signed for Nyone yet.
I'm not saying he won't go to Bayern, although with the midfield there being almost as good as barca I don't see why he would, but at least wait for real info before you have a buddy fit. Don't treat another rumour as fact, or if you do, save the rant.
This is a rumours site, not a psychiatric support group, and people should try to keep the discussion to rumours and whether they seem legit or not etc.

Bazza, what do you mean be more informed, is your idea of being informed reading what it says in the papers etc. All Pep has said is that he wants Thiago and Thiago knows that MU want him too, playing time will still be a major factor in his decision. There is no news that he has made his decision yet so why don't you just wait and see before you do anything drastic!
Stew4d

Wow, the almighty pep said he wants thiago, so thiago will go to Bayern. Thiagos wishes have no bearing on the matter whatsoever, and the fact he is leaving for first team football will not stop him going to a team where he is no more likely to get first team football.

Well vidic hasn't travelled with the squad due to an apparent injury so with smalling out and vidic out looks like we only have 3 centre backs meaning all of you saying Garay isn't needed well i'd sure take him right now

Fact is our CBs are all injury prone and don't appear to be able to string 3 games in a row and everyone with a brain know you need a solid and consistent CB pairing

We have four defender Keane is going to be a good player but if Vida goes we will sign Garary
Agree0

Your reasoning is faulty. We have 2 central defenders injured and still have 3 available, that's actually a good sign in terms of depth. Injuries happen, you can't build a squad with enough depth to cover every possible eventuality with quality options, you'd need 50 odd players!
"We only have 9 strikers? What happens if 5 are injured, two are abducted by aliens, one gets lost on the way to the ground and the last one can't play because a black cat crossed his path, causing him to break a mirror as he walked under a ladder?"
"hmm good point, sign 3 more strikers!"
Doesn't work does it, especially with limits on squad size. 5 is plenty.

Really doesn't surprise me, the fact Chelsea, City, Madrid and Monaco were busy tying up deals to improve squads what exactly have we done? Apart from Moyes being on holiday. I have a feeling our lack of timing may have cost us again. We never learn I don't care what anyone says Moyes has to prove to us that we can still attract top players to take the squad to the next level. We have all spoken about what is needed the last 3-4 seasons, come season ticket time we are all linked with these world class players. Yet nothing ever seems to materialise, I hope I am proved wrong by Moyes but for me he has it all to do. Sorry for feeling pessimistic but as a long time fan it bemuses me what our transfer strategies actually are. Sorry but if we miss out on Thiago we will regret it as there are not many midfielders available at his price and quality. We should be doing everything to tie up these sorts of deals.

I wouldn't worry, he is still more than likely to come here. He wants to join and his dad wants him to join (it seems). Negotiations are going on behind the scenes. Hope you are right Sydney, just feels like we've been "Hot" favourites for a number of weeks now without any conclusion, I know deals can take time etc but it seems like we take it to the extreme on too many occasions.!

Not the editors fault. too many dreamers. too much deliberate nonsense.

BM have been interested in him for the last year though they have had gortze as there main target with thiago more as a back up option. utd are favorites for the Spaniard but utd are concentrating on solving player exits and rooney more than signing though I would expect thiago to sign within the next 7 days if not before if there hand is pushed from a rival bid from other top clubs after him including a italian team which I belive it be roma or inter though not 100% on which one. so I wouldn't see to much intrest from BM over them trying to sign him.
Agree0

Agreed Syd, but I have the feeling Thiago has been waiting for his old boss Pep to take an interest. Personal terms are not yet agreed according to Graham Hunter, there were a few things to iron out as of yesterday. I can see Bayern coming in once we've done all the leg work in negotiating with Barca.
Dan
Agree0
Disagree0
Yeah I feel thiago is more likely to go to Bayern now, it's typical at the way Utd's transfers go, linked with the very best and it seams we can't get them over the line. pep guardiola would have seen thiago's qualities when he was at barca and both would know each other very well and thiago's would most likely feel comfort in that.
The link with utd is dragging on far too long and I feel we will most likely loose out,
Hope I'm wrong,

Dan, Thiago spoke with Pep a month ago to discuss a move and nothing came of it. BM have remained interested from the start, but it's us he has been talking to. BM interest is not new. I think we could wrap this up tomorrow if we wanted to, it's just us pussyfooting around trying to safe 1-2 million. In most transfers that is understandable, but we are desperate for a Scholes replacement and we are already saving a fortune on him with this clause, so no excuses IMO.

Kagawa, Jones and DDG were in the bag months before the transfer window opened and announced shortly after it opened. Everton fan here. Moyes was always notorious for being a slow mover in the transfer market. His holiday always seemed to coincide with when other clubs were busy signing big players. He sometimes also left it too late and ran out of time so we didn't get anyone

Hernandez and Kagawa were given extra time off because of their participationin the confederations cup. The plan was for them to get an extra couple of weeks off then go to carrington to do fitness training and train with the under 21's until the first team get back. This is what Hernandez is going to do. But Kagawa has decided to meet up with the squad in Japan and try an impress the new boss.
Obviously Young, Smalling and Nani have knocks and are being left at home to recover, although I expect there are other reasons for leaving Nani at home.

Real Madrid will report for training on 10 July. Following standard medical checkups the team will travel to Dublin on the 13th and stay until the 22nd. A friendly is scheduled while in Ireland but the opponent has yet to be determined. Four days after returning to Spain the Madridistas will kick off their participation in the Peace Cup, whose final is set for 2 August. A few days later Pellegrini and company head to Canada for a 7 August friendly against Toronto FC followed by a trip to Washington D. C. to play D. C. United two days later.

Barcalona spokesman Tony Freixa has confirmed Thiago will begin pre season training with the Catalans,
"We have the players we have and Thiago is one of them, "
"Pre-season with us begins as scheduled. "
I foresee another Hazard, Ozil, David Silva fiasco. Why let him go on pre season with Barca? It's not like we don't have £15 mil to spend. Especially when it looks like we are going to spend even more than that on a center back we don't even need! (Garay). Come on Moyes, sign this kid up!
HinkseyRed
Believable31
Unbelievable2
Yes because that's how it works. we just send them 15 mill in an envelope and he signs on the dotted line. Its not a case of going into a shop and buying an item for said amount. There are so many other financial aspects to sort out and consider like VAT for example. Whoever is handling the negotiations is out to ensure any deal represents the best for both sides and that can take time. Be patient. Thiago training with the first team has no bearing on any potential deal. If he doesn't want to sign/move I highly doubt the negotiations would have dragged on for so long but at the end of the day if the deal is not what's best for Manchester United then they will walk away.

James Milner was still training/ playing with Aston villa the day before he signed for city. Whilst there still under contract they can still play for the team.
Just because he has gone on tour it doesn't mean anything.
I however feel that if thiago doesn't sign this week, then he won't sign for us at all!
Agree0
Disagree0
Like the Eds have said, a buy out clause is not simply pay and you get him. There are taxes etc so sort out on the clause and Barca can make things as difficult as they like for us to get him. Worst case scenario they could force Thiago to pay the buyout clause himself (which is what should legally happen) in which case he would have to pay income tax as well as VAT. I don't know how much income tax would be on £15m given to him by us but i'm guessing between 40-50%, potentially adding on over £7.5m to the total costs. What we are likely trying to do is come to a compromise where the club directly pay the buyout clause with a few million extra to appease Barca and get the process moving quickly so they can find a replacement and we get the player earlier. However, if Barca are only going to promote Sergi Roberto and not buy a replacement then they don't care how long it takes and could be as awkward as they want. Personally, I would pay over 20m for Thiago anyway but this is united and the Glazers, we are obviously determined to squeeze every penny of savings out even if it ends up costing us the deal.

What is worrying me is that David Moyes has said, we are "trying" to do some business. Seems like Fergies old saying "we tried but. " when talking about Villa. Seems we are seen to be going for players, but we never seem to go ALL OUT to get them. Alexis Sanchez once said the reason he chose Barca was because of a personal call from Guardiola. Its that extra mile we don't seem to do. hence all of the players mentioned in the above post have slipped through the net.

Im not too worried about the comments coming from the barca hierahcy. They are probably self indulgent, like most aristocrats, and are thinking about how big their club is, and how great they are. I can see them trying to make the signing as difficult as possible. We've seen the mentality of barca's status quo evidenced before in their transfer activity, and it seems to be mostly about trying to upstage real madrid.
- Ibrahimovic in response to a real madrid spending spree - unecessary transfers like sanchez/fabregas/henry, all of whom played out of position. They could have simply taken pride in their youth, the lack of which, is ironically the reason thiago is now leaving. If manchester united want thiago at the end of the day, pay the taxes and the buyout fee. The player will no longer be a "bargin", but its still clearly a good investment.
- And that really is the greater concern. We might just be waiting for the dust to settle after unveiling a new manager, but, there is a worry that the glazers are increasingly gluing manchester united to an arsenal-esque transfer model.
United have not slowed down over the last 5 years mostly because of an incredible manager at this peak, and the unique longevity of key members of great generations, from the 90's and 2000's.
Our manager has now retired, and replacing iconic players in the modern game is not easy due to the inflation that oligarks are creating. (Even the academy is not a totally reliable solution. We are loosing players like morrision and pogba to the greed of market oppertunities. )
It really is important, that if high quality players are available at relatively good value, - they should be made priority. Haggling over small variances, is not only wasteful, its dangerous to the long term future of united. We can only hope the glazers can make these connections and understand that, even commercially, getting players like thiago signed is crucial.

All these rumours. We are going to buy him no we are going to buy the other one. Medical booked for weekend. Well we go ontour and who has come. No one. Did you not read what our new ceo said "We do not need any major signings maybe a little tinkering here and there". Another squeeze by our beloved owners. Did Gill and Fergie know something. Who is the best manager to get who has managed on a virtuall zero budget. Yes its starting to make sense isn't it
