A question for anyone who has knowledge about this:
Did we ever place a bid or inquired about
Alexis Sanchez, Hazard, Lucas, Witsel, David Silva, Aguero

Believable15 Unbelievable4

There were concrete intrests in hazard and lucas....... hazard choose chelsea over us while lucas preferred PSG coz united were unwilling to pay his agents fees
there was definite interest in sanchez but he went to barca so united made a move for young
and there are no sources who can confirm united's interest in aguero or witsel {Ed004's Note - Ed 2 can confirm that Utd bid for Witsel}

Agree0 Disagree0

Bid for Sanchez a year before he went to Barcelona.

Agreed personal terms with Hazard, showed him around OT.

Bid plenty for Lucas, we offered a big amount, but the PSG offer was silly.

We bid for Witsel which was rejected.

We had an interest in Silva, but never made a move for him.

Offered Aguero a package to join the club which he rejected. He rejected Chelsea and RM too. Greedy.

Sydney!

What proof has he got that Utd bid for Witsel, this site is just full of awful rumours that people make up {Ed004's Note - then don't visit... No one is forcing you to. This site is also full of people who just complain for the sake of it}

Agree0 Disagree1

Utd bid 23mil for Silva a few years ago. Last day of a window if I recall correctly...

Everything was sorted for a Hazard transfer except the agent fee. Even City didn´t want to pay his agent loads of money. Only Chelsea was ready to do that.

Apart from that the only other deal who was very close is the one for Lucas. Everything was in place here as well but PSG came in and bid crazy money.

Agree0 Disagree0

We agreed a deal with club for Sanchez but Barca came in with a last min bid inc. a larger agent fee and gazumped us

Agree0 Disagree0

These were world class players we cudnt get coz of the outrageous money involved and I don't regret it. Buying kagawa proves that you can get quality for the right price. But why didn't we have a backup player if these deals cudnt be made. Hazard and Lucas didn't come and we bought no one. Sanchez rejected and we end up buying young who is in no way the same class as Alexis. We could have used that money to buy some other quality player.

Agree1 Disagree0

Sanchez has not exactly set the world on fire at barca so i don't think we missed much there, neither has young I must say, however i still think young is a good player and with this new set up he can provide a lot of assist. Shahram

Agree0 Disagree1

To be fair who gives a hoot about players that ended up joining other clubs but while we are here was there ever a bid made for trevor francis and what about gary lineker

question for Ed
wolves and united fan here!

how do you guys rate Robbie Brady amid rumours wolves are going to sign him on loan, syd, ed, anyone? how do you think he'd go?
thankyou

Believable11 Unbelievable2

I feel he's not a great winger for united. But is good as a 3rd or 4th choice. Would like to see him out on loan.

Agree1 Disagree0

He'll go on loan & be sold. He did well at Hull. Be a few teams in for him I'm sure.

Agree2 Disagree0

Not good enough for United. Will probably be sold after a loan.

That said he´ll be good enough for a mid-table club in the Premier League in the future like Liverpool.

Agree1 Disagree0

I also beleive that sean o driscoll at forest is looking at him to loan

Ed's, do any of you know of any concrete information of who United will be looking at, or for in the January transfer window?

Anyone, what is the story with Petrucci? I'm reading that he is going to be a fantastic player, but there are fears that he is following Pogba's footprints, maybe not to Juventus, but any Italian team. For posters that have seen him play often - how do you rate him?

Thanks,

J Bones. {Ed059's Note - He did reject an offer from Inter Milan in the summer and was reported to have signed a new deal although united did not give anything official}

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Petrucci signed a new deal. He's been injured for almost two seasons. Before that was highly regarded in Italy. Played for Roma & was hailed as guess who? The new "Totti". Was very close to being introduced into the first team as a 16yr old as a persuasion to stay in Italy. United came along & we rocked the apple cart. Roma through a tantrum a little like LeHarve did with Pogba. So I can see the resemblance of the Pogba & Petrucci situation.

Back to the way he plays. Like Anderson was solely an attacking player in the hole.
This season & end of last he has been learning his trade in that Carrick & Scholes kind of position. Not defensive, but picking the ball up deep & starting attacks with short sideward passing or a 40yard hit towards King or Brady.

Mentality - seems okay
Skill - very good
Tekkers - very good
Positioning - seems okay
Short pass - very good
Long pass- good
Shooting - good from range, has missed a pen & a few sitters in reserve.
Stamina - okay, if he stays fit.
Pace- not the quickest.

I think if a decent bid would of come for Anderson we would of been seeing Petrucci now. He's 21 and is better than Powell, Lingard or Cole at this time. As we've spent 4 or 5m on Powell though, Petrucci might just find his way blocked.

Best thing Petrucci could do is go on loan to a Championship club. He's going to have to move mountains though & get himself noticed. In all he's got a lot to do.

Agree1 Disagree0

I have no idea what reasons there are for him to stay now he hasn't been given any game time and we have brought Powell, who has walked in straight in front of him. With Rooney, Powell and Clevs in front of him its not ideal for the lad.

Unnamed poster made a fair assesment of the kid. I agree and may i add :
Physicality : very good
Tackling : very good
Vision : excellent.
this guy moved into midfield without losing any of the creativity and skill that made him a fans favourite at roma ( same as ravel morrisson here ). his only downside seems to be his pace, you dont see him making storming runs ( a la iniesta ) but you can notice hes regaining his pace slowly but surely ( you d expect that after a 2 year lay off ) .
he could move to a championship team and easiely be their best player imo but i would like to see him at wigan on loan for the second half of the season.

How's rooney infront of him, different positons.

Agree0 Disagree1

Thanks for the responses. Looks like a loan period is the best option for him. He is certainly held in high regards by most people who have seen him play, lets hope he lives up to expectations. J Bones.

One of Petrucci's uncle's is half English/Italian and an OT season ticket holder of many years who sits near me. He divides his time between this country, USA and Italy and has become one of my best mates, in fact he rang me today. Petrucci loves it in Manchester and is committed to staying. I think he may well go on loan but he will stay a red and SAF thinks the world of him. FA Cup may be a big opportunity.
