Couple good and bad points I take from that very entertaining game in Germany....

Positives
1) Some of our attacking play was first class tonight, Cleverley injected that bit of extra pace in the middle instead of having Carrick in then slowing the play down.

2)Rooney finding his form right before the start of the season, obviously been practicing penalties since Barcelona.

3)Chicharito looked backed to his best, he was unlucky tonight, couple of crosses where he was inches away from getting a tap in. His movement was excellent and was creating space for Rooney,Kagawa to make key passes.

The only negative really is just a concern and its obviously the back four. Think if it comes down to Carrick playing centre back against Everton against the likes of Fellani,Distin,Jelavic we could really struggle in an aerial battle which they would surely bring. This is one reason why I think just for this game Lindegaard will play, he will command his area from crosses and relieve pressure on the high ball.

RedKnight

Believable11 Unbelievable11

Rooney was not great in my opinion.
He failed yet again to score in open play or trouble the defenders. He made maybe two good passes all game.
OK - He scored a good free kick. But he seldom does that.
OK - He scored a penalty - Thats the least you should expect for £225k a week.
I really dont think he is good enough for us. {Ed004's Note - Suppose you will forgot his assist to Kagawa. His through ball to Nani who as a result crossed one right on a plate for Hernandez. You also forget his super through ball to Hernandez to set him in on goal and his 27 league goals last year. I struggle to see how people think Rooney is not good enough for us?}

Agree2 Disagree2

Totally agree ed 004 he's our best player by a mile.

Caolán.

Agree2 Disagree1

For the post on rooney not being good enough mite i suggest we swap him plus a few million quid for emile heskey and i better spell it out for ya cause u r dumb its called sarcasm but u wont understand it

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes Rooney is a top player but I'm not sure he is just as good as he's cracked up to be. Sometimes he seems uninterested and goes missing in games. A truely top player doesn't do that. He was poor at the Euros. It appears Utd and England hang alot of hope on him. Which he may not be able for and so seems unfair on him. Also, I think Vidic and old man Scholesy should be considered for best player at the club.

Agree1 Disagree0

Personally I think we need cover at centre half. Rio Evans smalling always injured. Jones is overrated and his positioning is nonexistent.

Agree0 Disagree0

Some people don't appreciate how lucky we are to have a player like Rooney, every player has games where they don't perform at 100%, we should be gratefully that when he does play at 100% it's in a united shirt

Should we go back for Modric?

Believable5 Unbelievable25

Not if they want £40m for him. Would be ideal but is not worth more than £30m

Agree1 Disagree0

Yes! But it all depends on whether Madrid stump up enough money.

Agree0 Disagree1

No ......... Someone cheaper in my opinion don't really care who at this stage you pick someone an I'll back ya up .......

CAIN

Agree1 Disagree0

Modric will not go for 40m. He will either go for closer to 35m or he will stay at spurs.

Kagawa is just as good with his left as he is with his right, So calm on the ball. Cleverly was good today aswell. Anyone have any info as to why SAF wasnt at the game?

Dylan

Believable15 Unbelievable2

I think it might have been a good job we missed out on Hazard. His short quick passes and through balls are unmatched by anyone else i have ever seen!

Dan

Agree1 Disagree0

Kagawa is a beast. He was at points in the first half controlling the game like Scholes does.

Cannot wait to see him in the PL this season!

Ozwald

Agree1 Disagree0

Take note Barca Spain Italygermany very rarely pass back to goalie tonight cleverly/kagawa always went forward at every chance hope this partnership is allowed to blossom and scholes does not do what Roy Keane did and held us back 2 years. I know that the 2 players mentioned are legends but fortunately Fergie spots the time to say thank you & all the best
Tiger2

Agree0 Disagree1

Because he was working with new Man United signing RVP

Agree0 Disagree0

My understanding is we were after Hazard AND Kagawa, which seems right sicne we were in for Moura as well, so wouldnt agree it was good we missed out on Hazard. As for Scholes, of course he isnt the same player of a few years gone by....however lets not forget the impact he had comign out of retirement. Personally I think Scholes still has another season in him to make a good impact, personally I am more concerned about Giggs now, and surprised that Fergie said he may have another two or three years to play in the premiership still. I think for the last 18 months though he can still make things happen his legs and speed of thought has really diminshed. Watch him over 90 minutes and he gives the ball away a hell of a lot now. A truly great player obviously but I certainly hope Scholes plays more than Giggs this season, put it that way.

so what can we take from hannover vs man utd game!!

plus points:
1) kagawa is simply the missing piece of our puzzle.. man! he is really gonna shine for us this season

2) though ando played for just some minutes but he showed some great passes.. He just made me remind of that anderson for whom we paid 25m.. so if he plays the same.. we may not need another midfielder.. 1 may be needed though

3)carrick can be a good defender indeed!

4)evra has just increased his game level.. he was impressive in attack and not frustating in defense..

5)cleverly can give us boost in midfield when needed..

negative points:
1)hernandez is simply not the hernandez i know.. hope it is just in this pre season... but he is looking extremely poor in that quality which made him what he is today... i mean tapping the ball in and utilizing the crosses provided by our wingers.. his first touch was a crap

2)we really need some ball winning player.. Hannover whenever had ball had plenty of area to move and pass.. we need may be just 1 player for that role..

3)i still think our defense was not great today!

so i think RVP is gonna come to us.. but we need a midfielder who can SCORE,WIN BALL,KEEP POSSESION AND TURN DEFENSE INTO ATTACK.. for this MOUTINHO is the perfect choice.. martinez is too expensive and much defensive player as is m'vila. witsel is not the type of player suited to man utd..
Though i prefer moutinho as he is a complete midfielder.. if he can dominate the midfield against spain then he can dominate the midfield against any team... but i dont think we have any interest in him..
.. MAN UTD TILL I DIE

Aakroz

Believable19 Unbelievable5

Agree with everything in this post except the fact we should not give up on Modric. He is a better option than Moutinho and you never know we may be able to get him.

Dan

Agree0 Disagree1

Agree kagawa is simply gifted as any and can make a real difference.

Anderson can be our all round player the lad can dot he lot , just needs to push himself as he has got the ability .

hernandez will be worked with closely as ferguson has said he needed time off etc and a real pre season so he can work out what to do with him

Defence , could do with a player that can play accross back four and is off high quality.

all in all i think we dont need rvp , we need maybe a moutinhio or even someone like fellaini.we will be in the title race with kagawa and rooney impressing throughout the season and anderson could surpise a few if he hits his potential.

Agree1 Disagree1

Anderson didnt cost 25m...not the first time iv seen someone post saying he cost 25m.....he cost 17m....hope he has a good season this time round and yea kagawa is gonna be top notch for utd this year

Agree0 Disagree1

Anderson did not cost 25mill

Duggo

Agree0 Disagree0

My bad....
The transfer fee Porto announced was 30 million, which was equivalent to around £20 million as of July 2007

Aakroz

Agree0 Disagree1

Havent seen any pre-season games but, yes I really hope Anderson can stay injury free and push on this season as I think a lot of people forget just how good he was in his first season at the club before a succession of niggling injuries and other circumstances have stopped his development as for me, he is still a young player with more talent/potential as an all round midfielder than any of the names I see getting mentioned again and again on here. Last chance season to prove himself, as he has said himself really but he can be a massive player for us this season (to be fair that has been the case the last two/three years as well, hence last chance saloon)

just read that if united sold their stadium naming rights they could get up to 1 billion US dollars..

i personally really hope we don't sell the naming rights.

but.. out of curiosity what option would you prefer..

1. keep old trafford name and still have the debt.
or
2. sell the naming rights for old trafford and use all the money for the debt..

JK92

Believable11 Unbelievable16

Even if it cleared the debt, the glazers would still continue to milk the cow for their own benefit. I dont think we would see more stars through the door. One thing that is certain the rights will be sold at some ponit so lets hope they do sell it for that amount

Agree1 Disagree0

Would much prefer to keep Old Trafford... But if the debt becomes un-controllable it's a no brainer really, There is also talk of Anfields naming rights being sold, it is inevitable no matter what anyone says the list of big clubs is growing Newcastle,Man City,Arsenal, Man Utd? Liverpool?

RedKnight

Agree2 Disagree0

Part of me believes that is what the Chevrolet deal is for, getting us used to massive sponsorship deals in order for something like this. Its a logical step.

Massive shirt sponsorship, followed by a massive kit deal as Nike comes up in the next 12-18 months? Then a stadium deal?

I also suspect part of the ipo was to test fans reaction and see the opposition, as well as make a few bucks. The Glazers will think they can get away with it as opposition is so weak.

Agree0 Disagree0

Great question JK92!
I personally would hate to see it happen but i think the long term future of the club would always have to come first, and if it got to a point where the debt was getting too much they might have to consider selling off the stadium all together (or carrington which was rumoured at one point), so id sell the naming rights. It will always be Old Trafford to me weather its the Nike Arena or the Sleepless Mattres's Theatre of Dreams!

Andy B

Agree0 Disagree0

I would sell the naming rights to the South Stand and use the collateral to build it. United could easily raise £200m over 7/8 years for the naming rights of the South Stand and Carrington. That would bump the capacity up to 95k. As soon as the Glazers are gone we could fill it every game, but the top games would still sell out.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

A name is forever, not like the debt. One day that will be gone. Old Trafford is synonymous with Manchester United. Changing it would be giving up part of the history of a fantastic club, it's just not worth it!

Andy

Agree4 Disagree2

In one hand I think it would be a disgrace to re-name old Trafford but on the other it's a different world these days and getting massive money for it can only be a good as long as the debt goes and it's reinvested into the club

Dustbin

Agree1 Disagree1

Id rather the glazers sell the club, be debt free and then sell the naming rights, so the money would not be wasted!
Although if i had to choose from the options you gave id want the debt to be cleared. After all tje new name would make jack squat difference everybody would still call it old trafford, just like everybody still calls the sports direct arena st james' park

Agree1 Disagree0

If the money was used to wipe out the debt and then yes.

Agree0 Disagree0

Only if old trafford was still included in the name . Tradition is important just think if the ground name was changed then why not the name of the footy team if money talks all the time then that would be next

Agree1 Disagree1

Bloody good post. I'd keep the name. The debt will eventually be paid off and the Glazers will all be dead some day (hopefully soon).

Changing the name is like selling your arse to pay off the mortgage.

Andrew B

Agree1 Disagree1

Thats a no brainer, if it wipes out the debt then you obviously make the move.

Agree1 Disagree0

What's to stop the Glazers selling the name, and paying off the debt. THEN try and sell the club - some other bunch buy the club using "debt", we are back to square one arent we, worse actually? The Glazers are rich beyond their wildest dreams and the home of football is now called something else with one less asset! When the Glazers go someone else will come in, or it will be too expensive and the Glazers will asset strip and turn us into Rangers or worse. The club is too expensive there is no way it can be sold without debt being involved in my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree1

Glazers wouldnt do that as manchester united would lose the face value as the stadium is a major part of their history !

Agree0 Disagree0

We earn 10 times more from other sponsorship money and this deal would not go that far in helping to wipe the debt. We earn around 100m in sponsorship money per year anyway so an extra 10m or 20m per year would not make a massive amount of difference. Having OT instead of the etihad/emirates etc is what makes us, Barca, Real, Inter/AC the true big clubs in Europe and is part of what makes us a great club. Besides, the debt is not as big a problem as people think, it use to be when it was 800m odd but now it is manageable and we should have a net 50m spend this summer according to the clubs financial plan to the NYSE. Lets not lose our soul!

Dan

Agree0 Disagree0

Interesting question and pleased by most of the answers!
Agree with Andy who said it would be like giving a piece of our history...just not worth it.

But...i do think they'll do it. It's in their nature.

RedMist

Agree0 Disagree0

I would prefer we don't whore our stadium naming rights out. Great post and clearly there is validity / common sense in clearing the debt in this way. I like Sydney's idea of naming a stand though if we HAD to do it!

Preference would be our American Cousins realise they've milked the United cash cow enough though and sell us for £1.5b (which I understand the New York IPO effectively values the club at in its entirety).

Halesini

Agree0 Disagree0

Old Trafford all the way!

Agree0 Disagree0

Or would you rather be Malaga? some oil rich arabs buy the club and spend like crazy for one season and run the club into the ground...after one year.

Agree0 Disagree0

Old trafford till i die if they change the name il re-adjust it at night ;)

cantona's legal team

Agree0 Disagree0

Great idea. 300million for 5 yr deal is great business. Old mcdonalds trafford has a certain ring to it. Extra 50 mill to us if they construct giant M above the stadium. Chill out lads .... This is the future .....then rinfence the money for neymar modric etc

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with Andy and quite frankly am disgusted some people talk about selling the rights. Says everything about todays climate of quick fixes, instant returns and the value of money over anything else. Some things are priceless. Old Trafford will be here long after, you, me and the Glazers
Invisible STuey

Agree0 Disagree0

Doesn't matter what a sponsor decides to call it - it will always be Old Trafford. Simple.
Mr Q

Agree0 Disagree0

This is a great question.
As fans, we love Old Trafford for its history and being the Theatre of Dreams, but reality shows us that no-one really knows what is going on inside the heads of the Glazer's heads apart from calculating how much cash they can make.
If they did do it, we would still call it Old Trafford, much like Newcastle fans still say St James' Park.

Believable21 Unbelievable1

I really dont envy it. I know 4 sure he will prove to be overpriced and PSG will be looking to offload him after a short while. To be fair, French Football isnt good enough to win the prestigious tournaments. Can't understand the business sense of investing in French Ligue teams unless many sugar dadies come in and really bankroll 4 t0 5 teams. All the same wish PSG well in the Champions League.

Very disappointing show from Rafael earlier. He has been shaky defensively for us a lot last season but i have kept the faith. Do we need another right back people? Jones is more solid and can play there but I think his future is in the center.

Dan

Believable18 Unbelievable18

He was brilliant the whole tournament, bar one error. Get a grip.

Agree4 Disagree0

Agreed, awfukl performance, at fault for both goals. Asleep whe nthe gane started then left Hulk to defent the roght back position on the corner.....

Has bee ndodgy for us a couke times last season as well....

Agree1 Disagree0

Shaky isn't a word I'd use, perhaps risky. He will learn and will become a very good player. Apart from his one costly mistake he has had a very good tournament.

Sydney!

Agree2 Disagree0

Jones is def for centre, would be wasted elsewhere!

Agree1 Disagree1

Got rid of the wrong twin.

Agree0 Disagree4

How in gods name was he at fault for the second goal... You have no clue, each player will have been given a man to mark before the game. Rafael's man was obviously the man on the edge of the area, if you bothered to watch every Brazil game at the Olympics Rafael was always either on the outside of the box or on the back post

RedKnight

Agree2 Disagree0

Rafael is still learning . ive seen kyle walker make mistakes . rafael is no different , with fergies guidence he could be our rb for years to come1 he had a good tournament and valuable expeirence

Agree2 Disagree0

I think he has potential im just not sure I would trust him at the rb position fully yet. Even if it is only 1 in 4 or 5 games that he has an absolute howler like at Everton then that could cost us the league if last year is anything to go by.

Dan

Agree0 Disagree0

It isn't a lack of ability, it is merely temperament. Also, I thought had a great tournament. A few more years and he will be one of the very best. Also, he loves playing behind Valencia. Valencia is always the insurance policy when Rafael goes off on one of his little jaunts and to be fair, I love it when he does. So, if there are any defesive frailties, I think they are worth accepting for the short term, because in the long term he is going to be an incredible player.

MDJ

Agree2 Disagree0

Another OTT reaction.
He's been great in the Olympics. I thought he actually had a pretty good season last year. Came on leaps and bounds. His season seems to be rated on a bad five minutes at Everton!
Great little player who could do with our support.

RedMist

Agree1 Disagree0

I am someone who doesn't like seeing OTT reactions after a bad performance but he has had 4 years here and he still makes some howlers. Valencia covers for him a lot which shouldn't be necessary, I just want him to sort the defensive side of his game more. Don't doubt he is a top talent we just cant afford to lose stupid points next season, I think the winner may get 95 points or more and there will be very little margin for error.

Dan

Agree0 Disagree0

Can't believe Rafael got another deal! Another weak link and Jones should be given the RB position full time in my opinion.

Halesini

Agree0 Disagree1

I think the club are trying to build a Brazilian contingent at the club for a few reasons:
1. Support from Brazil (income etc as it is a lucrative market)
2. By having talented Brazilians at the club they help to encourage other young Brazilians to sign as well. Brazillian players also tend to be very loyal to a club.

Lets not forget about the groundbreaking academy deal we have set up with Desportivo Brasil, I think there is a business and football desire to consistently have brazilian players at the club. Good idea i think.

Just saying, him and Rafael may be there for more than just footballing reasons even though they are terrific players.

Dan

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair I agree with most. He had a great tournament. It was a great experience for him playing along side such talented youngsters and can only leave him in an even better position. Yes he mades a mistake for the goal. But let's not all anyalate him for the everton game. He's a class act in the making, can't say that for to many of the other brazillians who have come and gone.

I think it must be said though it was a complete disgrace when he argued with thiago silva I think it was before he got subbed. He definitely let him self down.

Juventus bid 12.5mil for Llorente. Two things, surely this means they're out of the race for van Persia completely, now just whether we can negotiate a deal.

And secondly, do that quickly and if that goes t**ts up then bid for Llorente as 12.5 for him is a bargain at today's prices.

Gpot7

Believable17 Unbelievable3

The 12.5 bid is an intial bid.....then we come in a bidding war starts....before you know it...it's 25 million.

Read earlier Llorente could be available for £17m. 2 years younger than Van Persie and £8m cheaper if Arsenal were to get their way and achieve a somewhat ridiculous £25m fee.

I'd bid for Llorente. If nothing else it will force Arsenal's hand in whether they accept speculated £20m we may bid for him....or lose him for nothing next year.

dempsey, looks like he's going to liverpool.

Because dempsey wants to go to a club thats on the way up and not a club on the way down, your midfield is probally the worst out of the top 10 teams plus fergie will be gone soon LOL so face it you mancs you are on a slippery slop. Brendo

Agree0 Disagree2

Liverpool is on another level, lower than united. the players they are looking at, would not improve our team.

Agree1 Disagree0

Yeah cos Dempsey is far better than RVP....

Agree0 Disagree0

Cause mid table players go to mid table team like liverpool manutd on the way down how has your 8th placed finish last season plus you sign overrated players like allen 15m compare with the same price we paid of kagawa who won German league twice and Andy Carroll for 35m and with manutd trying to get one of the best forward in the world yeah you will say he old and injury prone i rather have an injured player that still has a good goal scoring record with his injures than a 35m player than plays and cant score and replaced by a Italian who was a fav by your new manager and all your new manager is doing is buying former swansea player who next the dyer or someone different like the wolves keeper de Vries oh wait he played for Swansea too everyone are oldest rivals have been renamed to swansea

Agree0 Disagree0

Allen would walk into the Man Utd midfield, he is so much better than Anderson and Carrick.

Van Persie £20 million and 220k per week

Hi guys update from my source regarding the RVP transfer.

UNITED have agreed a fee of 22 million and personal terms 220k a week

Deal to be done on monday, they would have announced it today but RVP will play and captain for one more game.

They were going to announce it today but arsenal wanted to wait till after his last game.

MANUTD1990

Believable19 Unbelievable32

If we had agreed a deal for him he would unlikely be playing in any friendly lad.

Sydney!

Agree3 Disagree0

Why would Arsenal allow there last icon to play one last match before he leaves for what has argubably been there biggest rival for the past 15 or so years? Arsene Wenger will be fuming if RVP comes to United and would gladly drive him here himself methinks

Agree0 Disagree0

With those figures i just do not know what fergie and his team are thinking...

that is 67,765,000 for rvp on 4 year contract

we could sign someone (MARTINEZ) for £40m and pay them £130,000 a week and the total cost would be the same..... plus they would have RESALE value... which personally i could not give a toss about but the yanks will....

Oxred

So even tho Wenger knows Arsenal fans will b extremely mad for selling RVP to United, u think he will not only play him, but give him the captain armband? Not a chance.

I really don't see Wenger being sentimental enough to give him a send off before moving to us. LOL!

Dan

Got to totally agree with sydney, like we would pay 22 mil and vast wages then run the risk of him getting injured in a friendly for arsenal, come back with facts my friend, or dont say anything at all.

I called this fool out last week, you have no source. On Monday you will make up some other excuse. I still maintain that arsenal will not sell to united if there are Other options, it will only ever happen as a last resort. I said this and sir Alex confirmed. The difficulties. Contrary to belief city, juventus and even arsenal are still in with a good chance.

That was part of the agreement syd.

It happend with Hernandez when we signed him chivas wanted a friendly where he would play for them against us which he did in the first half.

Just come on here Monday when he's a united player mate.

MANUTD1990

Nasri played in the opening game against L,pool before signing for City on 24th Aug expect this to go the distance unless Wenger as a replacement in mind

United will not want him playing for anyone apart from United. What if he went and broke his leg tonight? It simply wouldn't happen. Plus the Arsenal fans cannot stand the bloke, he has just turned his back on them and could be moving to a rival. Sorry, but not a chance. We wouldn't pay him £220k a week either. More like £160k a week with good bonuses.

No name, but City hadn't agreed to sign Nasri at that point.

Lucas did play a part in the final and made a really good pass. They did not make many of those in the whole game. The lad is a class. He chose PSG get over us.United is and always will be bigger than a player but please please recognise talent for what it is and not be anti cos he goes elsewhere...

Well lets see this monday, if your right, then hats off to you, if you're wrong and come up with another jive ass excuse then you deserve the ribbing you will get!

Agree0 Disagree0

REGARDLESS of age and injury record he's CLASS, the current PLAYER of the season, the current TOP goal scorer so why does he not deserve the best wages?

If Rooney can be on 200+ why can't van Persie, he's currently the best striker in England.

And the fact you say what if he gets injured, what if Rooney gets injured for 9 months? Or vidic again?

it's called UNLUCKY.

What if he stays fit and scores 40 goals then it would be oh we should have just payed the money.

ATM there's not one player in football with RVPs record for goal scoring over the last 18 months apart from messi and ronaldo.

So that surly makes him worth the money and wages.

Which I doubt

It's pretty obvious United are in the driving seat in terms of signing RVP. We can all sit and try and predict days that he will sign, but the truth is when a deal is agreed he will be straight on a plane to Manchester for his medical, not playing a meaningless friendly for Arsenal. The only thing that is stopping us from signing RVP this weekend is agreeing a fee with Arsenal. I am not convinced we have agreed a fee at this point.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Manutd1990 just like everyone else I will believe it when I see it. 99.9% of people with "sources" are wind up merchants so I make no apologies for thinking that of yourself at the moment. If he signs on Monday and says he had an agreement to play one more game for Arsenal then I will be pretty surprised I be honest. I will hold my hands up if it happens but I'm not sure I will be.

Eds - do you know of any real interest in Lyon left back aly cissokho??
I read back in April I think that he had been linked with a few clubs including united and now it seems that he is desperate for a move away!
If so what sort of price would he be available for?
Cheers eds-great site
Smudger {Ed002's Note - I am aware of what his agent has said he would like to move to Manchester United but Italy seems a far more likely destination for Aly Cissokho.}

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Either inter or napoli is his likely destination.

Ed, this might sound stupid but do clubs look at the Pound to Euro exchange rate before they buy players from abroad. Only if the exchange rate is good then that would be the time to buy and that could explain why we were unable to bid higher in other deals, or why we were unwilling to do so. Gilly {Ed002's Note - It is not a significant factor in transfers and i can't recall it haolding any up.}

Believable1 Unbelievable3

Clubs (or any other businesses for that matter) can take out an option to purchase Euros at a fixed rate for a given period of time. Clearly, there is a fee for this option, but it does mean that their exchange rate is fixed for a period of time (e.g. the length of a transfer window) and they then know exactly what a transfer would cost in the currency in which they do business (in our case the £stg). Only worth doing if the amount you might be interested in runs into millions, mind - not worth it for a two week holiday in Spain!

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers Ed, cheers Mike B, only I just wondered whether that would be one reason why we often sign players from Premier League teams, although there are many I know. Gilly

Agree0 Disagree1

Normally they hedge currencies in the forward markets to reduce the fluctuations.

Hi Eds any truth in in the Eliseu rumours looks a good player, left footed quick with a thunderbolt of a shot on him! {Ed002's Note - I don't know of any confirmation of the rumours of a move to Manchester United, but the player pines for Benfica.}

Ed002,

If AC were to move on Cabaye do you think that could spark a few other teams (Utd hopefully) Into a move? For Newcastle to receive around 20m return on a 4m ish spend in a year must be considered good business by Ashley?

Jono {Ed002's Note - Probably not. It really is not how business is done.}

Believable7 Unbelievable2

I'd like to see Cabaye at United but I don't think United are interested in him.

Newcastle have said that they're desperate to keep their best players and they plan to bring in 2 or 3 new players to strengthen their team.

I'd say this rules out Ba/Cisse/Ben Arfa as well but as we all know... money talks, especially in football these days.

Eds I know we've only just finished one Lucas saga but do you know if Man Utd have any interest in 18 year Lucas Ocampos? Looks so simular to Ronaldo to me.

Kai {Ed002's Note - Monaco has now signed the player. River Plate's Lucas Ocampos has been looked at by a number of sides with at least Inter Milan, Sevilla, Monaco, Palermo, Napoli, Roma, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Chelsea showing an interest. I understand that Diego Caniggia took a look on behalf of Liverpool but it was decided that he would be too expensive (at around 15M euros) to buy and that seems to have ended any brief interest that Liverpool had. Juventus (not either of the Milan clubs) made a bid that was rejected.}

Cheers Ed002!

Ed002, is it likely that we will offer to send a player (I.e. Welbeck) on loan to Arsenal to push through the deal for RVP? Thanks,

#ags {Ed002's Note - I appreciate the speculation and perhaps he could be offered but I would doubt it. It is really a case of the money. If Welbeck went to Arsenal and sat on the bench it would do his career no good at all.}

Believable2 Unbelievable20

I do not see this happening one little bit, but ED02 if it did happen do you really think the strikers they have left are better than wellbeck ??

I think he would be first choice bfor them if van persie left.

oxred {Ed002's Note - I would not want to try to compare strikers - they are still in the market as well.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol oxred, really? U think Welbeck on loan would get the nod ahead of Podolski (german international) and Giroud (top scorer in the French league and french international). Now ive heard it all

Agree0 Disagree0

If Welbeck was to go anywhere perhaps he could go to Tottenham in part exchange for Modric.

Could be true he hasnt travelled with the squad

Arsenal fan here...there is a chance u get RVP, but no chance we will take ur left overs on loan. Keep him

Agree1 Disagree0

Can't see Arsenal going for that.
"Can we have your best player? and also would you mind training one of our kids for a year so we can reap the benefit of that too?"

Welbeck may be included in the deal but can't see it being a loan. Wenger could just bench him for a year and ruin him.

Berba would be a better option - he would fit in well with Arsenal, just dont think he will want such a step down in class though!

Rumour has it he's off to arsenal for a season loan with RVP coming our way

Agree0 Disagree0

He said that he was going to treat the game like a community shield and do only 3 or 4 substitutions. He obviously wasn't going to be involved as Kagawa,Chicharito and Rooney all need game time. Plus with him travelling to switzerland with England they will have left him to help his recovery after the england game
