Ronaldo was last night in a friend's nightclub in Vilamoura (Algarve) and was excused from Portugal's first training session on Monday along with Pepe, Fabio Coentrao and Bruno Alves. Ronaldo was scheduled to meet up with the rest of the Portugal squad on Monday evening ahead of their friendly against Holland on Wednesday.

Manchester Airport tweeted they hadn't seen him after apparently United fans went nuts at the news he may have been there.

Believable58 Unbelievable17

Aye they tweeted that at 1.30pm whos to say he didn't arrive after that

Agree1 Disagree1

What happened to the Ronaldo post from this am?

Agree2 Disagree0

The £340K bumper deal one?

lost forever apparently

RedFox

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah the £340k post was probably a troll just like many others including the one last month where all mufc security couldn't have any holidays in August because they had a pick up in Spain for a player.

Agree3 Disagree0

Ronaldo is not going to United

Agree0 Disagree2

Ya what happened to that big brave post in capitals ronaldo signing on a 6 year deal next week
why was it removed from John carrick

Sky reporting that Arsenal have made a £17.2m bid for Gustavo, it's a shame imo that we aren't interested in him as he would be a super addition to the first team.

Believable43 Unbelievable11

Ronaldo is in Portugal ready for their friendly??

Where is everyone hearing that khedira, modric, coentrao and di Maria are available? Is it trusted source? I only want to know cause I've been let down a lot of times this window already {Ed044's Note - I understand from another Ed that Real Madrid has already been in talks over Khedira with another club, Coentrao has been offered to Spurs as part of a deal for Bale but could end up moving their regardless of what happens to Bales, Di Maria is not interested in moving to Spurs but is available. Modric might be available at the right price but Real Madrid will not be in a hurry to sell.}

Believable8 Unbelievable12

Dave The Red,
Dont think there are that many "trusted sources". If we could sum up all "trusted sources" we would have completely new players in all positions by now (except De Gea and RVP)

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2013 17:59:17
Trusted sources have told me that Marouane Fellaini will join before Saturday. Something must be happening with him, because many trusted sports journalist and Ex players are talking about it.

Believable37 Unbelievable26

I hope so.its not been a great transfer window so far.although not my 1st choice midfield buy he will improve us.the days of ya ya bullying us in the middle will be over.i think we still need a proper big buy though.our name has taken a bit of a bashing with silly transfer dealings this summer.as a mark of intent if nothing else.let them all know with a big buy that yes Man United are the biggest club on planet earth. City and chelsea have made their moves early now let's makee ours

Agree2 Disagree0

Fairly inevitable really, he's a good player having proven so time and time again, I'm just wondering what he would be at Champions League level though. I'm a keen admirer of the likes of Arturo Vidal and Kevin Prince-Boateng, but I doubt either would happen sadly

Agree0 Disagree0

Funny how none of these journos took the time out to write a story about it and earn some cash.

But let's give you the benefit of the doubt and kudos for leaving a name.

Agree0 Disagree0

Does Fellaini's buy-out clause not end on Wednesday 14th August.
If so surely we would get him before then not Saturday?

Agree0 Disagree1

Yes 14th Aug is correct.

Ozwald

Agree1 Disagree0

It only ends for the teams who aren't involved in the champions league tho, as we are in the champions league we have all window to do it, I feel we will sign fellaini definitely and maybe a big big name depending on the Rooney saga (fat scouse git but a great great player)

With Valencia wearing 25 yesterday I began to start the wishful thinking! My uncle works at Manchester airport and said that Ronaldo arrived on a private jet today! What do you all think?

Believable41 Unbelievable73

I think that you have just made that up. "My cousin works at a late night petrol station and seen messi order a pack of ciggies up near Carrington" These sort of rumours which includes yours are nonesense.

Coups

Agree10 Disagree0

I think the 'my (insert relatives name) works at (insert relevant airport, training facility etc) and saw (insert marquee signings name)' type rumours have long since lost any credibility!

. be nice if it was true though

IrishRed

Agree7 Disagree1

Would love it to be true, but cannot see it myself sly sports would be all over it otherwise.

Agree0 Disagree1

Been waiting all window for one of these posts. can't believe it's taken this long to be honest ha ha

Agree2 Disagree0

I'm in Madrid since Saturday, and I really do think I saw Ronaldo drive into the Bernabeu complex this morning and sign some autographs.

Unless it was an impostor, or he has a twin brother, I think someone is writing BOTOX.

Agree1 Disagree0

Would also like to say that Valencia gave up the number 7 shirt at the end of last season, not recently.
Has nothing to do with Ronaldo.

Agree1 Disagree1

I think Valencia gave up the cause long ago. Not united quality.

Agree1 Disagree1

Belfz, Valencia is United quality, he's just had awful form for a season. A player cannot simply be voted best United player by his fellow colleagues then be labelled 'not United quality' at the end of the next season.

Ozwald

Agree1 Disagree1

To unknown,

Why, if Valencia gave up the no.7 at the end of the season did he wear 7 against Sevilla for Rio's testimonial? Where all other player wore their correct squad numbers

Agree0 Disagree0

I tried to post relating to Valencia having the No. 25 shirt, but for some reason the Eds didn't want to put it up. It said something along the lines of "cue a fresh round of Ronaldo rumours".

I's be interested to see exactly how many people think Ronaldo will be signed. I have a £20 bet with my brother that he won't.

Agree0 Disagree0

It does make me chuckle that Valencia has been at the club for 4 years and has played well for 18 months of that for one reason or another and yet people jump to his defence. If Nani, Anderson or a few others had that record then they would be, and have been, lynched.

TK-Red

Agree1 Disagree0

To tbir.

I know he's worn it up 'til now, but I was sure at the end of last season I read he requested his old shirt back.
After having a look for a quote perhaps I was wrong.
However, I would still maintain that vacating the number 7 shirt is not for Ronaldo per se, but that Valencia was giving it up anyway.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nani or Anderson ever been voted player of season by players or fans? They have both had patches of brilliance but neither have performed consistently well throughout a whole season.
I would still like to keep them both though, for now, and give them a chance to do so under the new manager.

Giggs11

Agree0 Disagree0

If Valencia gave up 7 at the end of last season why was he still United's 7 in the Charity Sheild Programme yesterday? I don't think Ronaldo's coming back but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a new signing wearing that shirt by the end of the window. I just hope it isn't Fellaini, he isn't good enough for the number 7.

Agree1 Disagree0

Paddy Crerand also said that Ronaldo has flown in today. Lots of people questioning his reliabilty but I can't think why he would make this up.

I'm hesitant in letting myself get carried away after the summer so far, but i'm sure we couldn't wish for anything better.

Dingle

Agree0 Disagree0

Giggs 11,
I think Nani had a great 2010-11 season!

Agree0 Disagree0

Nani was voted Player of the Season 2010/2011. not sure if it was by fans or by players. he was great that season, not bad in 2011/2012 either, just that Valencia had a superb season then. last season marred by injuries. still the best of our wingers imo.

Talk of us being after Bale again is just paper talk. He is the option is Ronaldo doesn't come.

I have been told Nike representatives met Ronalds and Manchester Uniteds last night in Manchester. Nike want the deal to go through to boost shirt sales particularly in Asia.

Expect Real Madrid to cash in, and use it to fund a bid for Bale. Tottenham really want to cash in on Bale, despite what they tell the press. However, their no fools and will try and get the best possible deal.

Andyp MUFC

Believable20 Unbelievable40

If ronaldo goes to manchester united then would that mean that Manchester United would not get any other players this year?

Agree0 Disagree1

Excellent ploy by ourselves. You'd have to think that we wouldn't really want to get involved but if FFP actually works then we are probably the only team that can realistically rival a bid from Madrid for Bale.

Interest from us puts pressure on Real to go the extra mile to sign Bale ASAP. I happen to think that Real can't buy Bale for the stupid money being touted and give Ronaldo the contract he wants at the same time.

Add in the Neymar factor and Real are under real pressure. Spurs can take them to the cleaners and we can conviently help Real by taking Ronalo off their hands.

Unless of course Madrids local governement bails them out again.

Clarkeeee

Agree1 Disagree1

I think this maybe a sign. I had a dream last night that Manchester United signed ronaldo on the last day of the window. He came out of a black car and into the medical centre and the word was getting around and everyone was buzzing. Lol just thought is mention it.

Agree3 Disagree1

Its a strange one, I would have thought RM would want to tie up Bale before selling Ronaldo, and if you take Bale's mysterious foot injury as a smokescreen one would have to say the deal is done or so close as damn it. The only confusion is why Ronaldo is still featuring in RM's game, surely the risk of him picking up an injury and scuppering the Bale transfer must be high. The only thing to conclude is Ronaldo isn't linked to the Bale move which is somewhat disappointing. I think Real Madrid are fully expecting to sign Bale AND keep Ronaldo

Agree0 Disagree1

We've more chance of signing Christian Bale!
Karlmarx

Agree1 Disagree2

Couple of things really, first, spains government if in a real mess financially so I would not expect madrid getting another bail out anytime soon. also with ffp (if enforced) and the push to make the spanish league fairer for all teams (and not just the real/ barca show) means madrid have to be able to balance their books, and with them already spending big thus far, I cannot see how they can offer ronaldo a new contract and buy bale.

secondly on paper having bale and ronaldo on the same team looks amazing, but how would they really work on the pitch given the talent already in the team, not to mention how it would effect in the dressing room. I actually think madrid secretly want rid of ronaldo but given the money involved are more worried by the backlash from fans given barca's purchases. I can see this deal coming off, but madrid need bale in place before we can get ronaldo (and consequently rooney to chelsea) otherwise spurs would be in even stronger position which levy knows hence all this 100m talk

According to The Independent today:

Manchester United may offer competition to Real Madrid in the pursuit of Gareth Bale this week, with Tottenham Hotspur seemingly more receptive to the English champions, having become deeply frustrated by negotiations with the Spanish side.

Elmo

Believable7 Unbelievable38

Not a chance Glazers will not stump up the dough for Bale, Levy too clever for them and they've been wary of him ever since Berbaflop.

Pitch for ronaldo - £50 - £60m, part funded by sale of Rooney to Chelski for minimum £40m. It makes sense, suits every one and gives Madrid the cash in hand to take Bale.

Also need Baines, pay up for him he's worth it, Fellani and Modric as well.

Come on UTD - this is getting embarrassing.

From the Real Madrid page dated yesterday.

Hi ed just wondering if there was any truth that man united have bid for Modric?
Thanks {Ed001's Note - not bid, no. There were talks between the two clubs, not regarding him specifically, but in which they were made aware of his availability. So the ball is now in United's court, if they want him.}

Where will Coentrao be heading ed? {Ed001's Note - Manchester United are interested, I am sure there are probably other interested clubs as well, but as they are the only ones I know of for sure, I would have to put them as the likeliest.}

------

So is David Moyes finally seeing some sense, being an opportunist and chasing Coentrao, Modric and perhaps Di Maria and Khedira too instead of difficult to get targets? Have United deemed Baines/Fellaini too expensive and looking towards the Real Madrid garage sale which always throws out some gems? David Moyes did say we are "closer" to deals, although I didn't expect him to say anything else.

Real could definitely do with some cash in their pursuit of Bale, all four are available, and them 4 would complete our team imo and fill all the voids in one go.

60+ mil combined offer perhaps? Di Maria, Coentrao are definitely surplus to requirements, Modric is available too, the only difficult one sounds Khedira but reading the other sites Khedira is available as well from the Ed's info.

Or are these talks related to Ronaldo and KLOOT and DarkLard's info is right that we have been trying to sign him? Interesting indeed.

Thoughts?

i believe coentrao will be a spurs player come the end of the window? this has nothing to do with bale but more so the money madrid owe them for modric! as for modric, I can't see him moving anywhere soon!

Agree1 Disagree0

60 million for those 4 would be a joke bid. Modric would be 30 milllion, De Maria 25 million, Coentrao 18million and Khedara 20 million = 93 million. The lowest possible serious bid would have to be 75 million, but would expect 80-90m more likely to be listened to seriously. I would be happy with Modric for 30m, Coentrao for 18 million and Fellaini for 23 m as he is far better than Khedara. De Maria has made is clear on several occasions that he doesn't fancy the EPL. The last time was in turning down the possibility of joining Spurs as part of the Bale transfer package. He has never appeared to be interested in us, City of Chelsea, so I wouldn't expect to see him on UK shores at all as a full time player.
Mik

Agree1 Disagree1

REDFAITH,

That would be the best summer ever and would have us competing for the Champion's League again IMO. I've always liked Khedira and think he would be great with Carrick, plus Modric to link the play. Coentrao is an upgrade on Evra and Di Maria is also an upgrade on what we have.

Only issues would be price, as I think they would want £100m+ for them, and I don't think they would sell four players to the same team. Perhaps offer 50m for two.

Phred

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would we line reals pockets when Bale will be our player soon

Agree0 Disagree2

Well it appears I was wrong over Modric I didn't think there was any chance of getting him, all 3 of those I'd be happy with tbh, heard Ronaldo wasn't finished he ofc is the top banana, a good piece Redfaith

Agree0 Disagree0

Would love Di Maria and Modric. I believe Baines is better than Coentrao though.

Agree0 Disagree0

60mil "+" The + being the important part here. I think we should start bidding at 60mil and we might get the lot of them at somewhere around 70-75mil.

Mik you massively overvalue the players. 18mil for Coentrao? Are you having a laugh? 25mil for Di Maria? The other two sound fair but i've heard that Real want 25mil for Modric.

In any case all these are available and Real Madrid really won't care if they are selling to one team or 4 as long as they agree to a price. That cash would go a long way to then getting Bale, since Levy's problem with their offer is the timing of the payments and installments etc. This could solve the issue. A 60mil offer could have them thinking, a 75mil offer might get it done.

Agree0 Disagree0

Contrao is guff! Moody, moaning little twerp that falls over as much as Ronny did in his early days. The fact people would gladly pay 18m for him yet turn up their nose at the same price for a PL proven, best PL LB and hungrier Baines shows the fancy foreigner will always be considered a 'better' deal than what's right in front of your noses.

Modric. I am not a fan but he is a massive step up from what we have and you all know who I would prefer ;).

Kahdira. Amazing player IMO and if he is genuinely available (I never thought he would be) we should go all in for him. Would suit the PL like a glove and also has had his Spain trip so wouldn't need to nip off to sunnier climes in a few years.

Di Maria. Without doubt a step up from our wingers but I genuinely don't like him. I look at him and just think w**ker. Falls over faaaaar too much IMO and he brings tricks to the fore way too often against lesser teams and ormally winds up his teammates in doing so. There are far more 'team' orientated wingers out there we could target IMO.

Contrao- NO, NEVER!
Modric- Not a fan but would take him.
Khedira- Definitely.
Di Maria- can't stand the boy but would instantly be our best winger, so I would (begrudgingly) be happy IF we had to get him haha.

Agree0 Disagree0

@Jono

I think Coentrao is a better player than you give him credit for. Although I agree completely Baines is the better player right now but at 29, he is being overvalued by Everton imo. I would take either of them provided they are at the right price and both represent a significant improvement on Evra

I hope you noticed the setup in the Community Shield game where we had practically no left winger and used Evra as a wingback. Coentrao or Baines would be perfect for that role.

I'm a massive Modric fan and completely agree with your views on Khedira.

Di Maria too I agree with but I like his electric pace on the break and his crossing is pretty accurate. If Moyes can have a no nonsense approach and tell him to play a specific way, he would deadly, especially ont he counterattack.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2013 13:25:18
@Pardoe

If we cannot get all 4 of them, say we can just get Coentrao, Modric, Di Maria then we could just fill the defensive type midfielder void by signing Fellaini. If Coentrao is perhaps the one we can't get, we can sign Baines instead.

There is massive chance here where quality players are available, their club is willing to let them go in order to fund other transfers, they would fit into our team like a glove, all of them 4 imo.

I value :-
Modric 25-30mil
Khedira 15-20mil
Coentrao 10-15mil
Di Maria 18-20mil

Real have no problem selling people to the same club as long as the price is right, look at their sales for Napoli. I hope Woodward and Moyes see this opportunity, get the deals done instead of chasing difficult unrealistic targets.

Personally I feel Everton are overvaluing Fellaini and Baines, and Khedira and Coentrao would prove to be better deals.

Agree0 Disagree0

I rate Coentrao very highly. I think he's one of the best left backs around.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree, Coentrao is the only LB available who is better than Baines. Would be a great option for the LB, Coentrao & Fabio for the left and Rafael & Valencia/Varela for the right.

Agree0 Disagree0

Di maria already stated he is happy at RM will stay there as he still has 3 years left on his contract.

Agree0 Disagree0

Guys Coentrao cannot even push ahead of Marcelo (who isn't much ahead of Baines) and yet would be better than the statistically best LB in the country? I know Baines will cost more but he is English coming from an English team so comes with the price hike. Baines IMO would be hungrier and would value the chance to play for us more. Age wise Coentrao has it but he is hardly a youngster.

Tell me what portuguese FB has done well in this tough league? And he is a wimp. On top of that he flies to the ground something rotten and is shoved off the ball so easily its embarrassing. Add to that he is a moany little pr*ck and has a face I would never tire of punching, I could go on all night haha.

I really really don't like him guys sorry.

Agree1 Disagree0

Coentrao is a really good shout for another left back. Wouldn't mind Modric either. would that still be enough though? If we do play 4-3-3 surely Moyes doesn't think just Carrick, Giggs and Cleverley/Anderson will be an exciting combination? Well I don't but I'm just a fan :P I'd take those two over bale any day!

Agree0 Disagree0

Apparently the Garay deal is close and United are to sign him but the hold up has been the method of payment as Benfica want the whole £21.5m upfront whereas United offered around 12.5mil with add-ons.
^^ Could Garay be the 'close signing' that Moyes was talking about.

Dont know if its true but its what I've been reading.
And yes, I do think we need another defender because if we are injury hit like last season that will mean trouble aswell as the fact that with rio and vidic ageing then we need some experience to help the younger defenders.

Do we really need another defender?
