Short follow up to my mail from last month re James Wilson-My oppo visited him 2 weeks back at his new 3 storey townhouse in worsley, just 100 mtrs from his own agent - he isn't living with his girlfriend yet - something I thought quite bizarre was that he was arranging the things you do when you get a new house, bit of decorating, sky tv installed - each and every contractor was arranged by the club and security were there and followed each worker every step, even a guy going back to the van to get a tool the security went with him and back - apparently when RVP was having work done at his place the club advised him or even insisted the family move out, don't want the chance of snoopers/fotos /gossip apparently - anyway, chico set to leave, januzai set to stay, but James Wilson strong chance of a full season loan move and Bolton have made discreet enquiries and have not been turned down by club or player outright - might me a chance to toughen him up mentally and physically is the feeling there, as long as he plays weekly is the main goal.

Really worrying if true as that would leave us with only Wayne as a recognised striker, think Wilson definitely needs a loan though

Hi Boyfrom, good post.
I said sometime ago to a mate that I felt Fellaini would play as a back up CF this season, target man type as an alternative. However, I recon Hernandez is off and Wilson definitely needs a loan spell, I would prefer a Premier league team though.
So, this would leave us very short. Surely there is something still being pursued. I've hoped Lewandowski is a viable possibility all Summer but then we have the dilemma of is he actually going to be happy competing for one spot?! Kane to me seems more realistic as Rooneys long term replacement. Rooney could also drop into the number 10 role as we all know though so I guess anything is still possible.

If all happens as you say then we must be looking at strikers. There's no way we'd go into the season with just one forward, even if others can play there

Honestly think we will buy zlatan on deadline day

All I know is what I have written above- just as all of us have workmates or close friends whose family are plumbers or whatever I've known for many years that one of my mates knows JW very well in as much as he sees him couple of times a month and they hang out together -no more than that - I know that there are a lot of unsettled players this month and also that things change very quickly - eg . JW would not have considered a loan a month ago - now he just really wants to play - chico wants something settled once and for all but seems resigned to leaving - and AJ has been told that they "prefer" he stays but that can change depending on who comes in for him (loan only) and who from the squad goes out and who might come in late - if anyone ,so talk of AJ going out on loan as per the media is no means a certainty could still go either way for AJ.

I don't think Lewandowski would be worried at all, he is at a level where he would be first choice, others who have coasted along thinking they are automatic choices may be less happy mind you.

Lewandowski plays for Bayern Munich not Bolton . He may not want to leave , Bayern may not want to sell and certainly don't need to yet people make it sound like we just make an offer and hey presto he's at Old Trafford

Good post. people here have such unrealistic views of the transfer market as if we are shopping at Tesco. No way Bayern sell him, last i remembered they have huge ambitions themselves and will be gunning for winning the CL and he is an integral part of their set up and impossible to replace given the lack of top strikers in the market.

On another note, I expect Fellaini to be back in the line up as we were so toothless offensively against spurs and whether people like it or not he is a handful when played off the main striker and creates havoc for opposing teams. Not a silky latin player but very effective and gives us an aerial threat in the box where the rest are more like minnows.

Gulit has come out and said Van Gaal is already playing Depay in the wrong position which i agree 100 %.

I understand the challenges but just to point out that one of the main Ed's said Lewandowski was available as he hadn't been first choice

you just said

" I don't think Lewandowski would be worried at all, he is at a level where he would be first choice"

but he is not first choice for munich ?

lew has said he is happy at munich as have munich and his agent.
what makes you so sure he wants to come to united and not madrid (which has been talked about ) or chelsea

if he is available and such a good player why has no one bought him .
things change , bale was available not so long ago .

i still think we should buy messi

Lewandowski would be first choice at United but isn't necessarily at Munich because of Muller. The rumour is that Arsenal are keen on the pole if Benzema is not available. There is time yet but in your world United don't , shouldn't or can't buy any notable players

Valencia based station claim that Otamendi has signed for Man United.They are also claiming that they've got tax based proof which really sounds to be concrete. Any idea eds?

{Ed001's Note - I don't know if anything has changed, but negotiations have been ongoing for a long time, so it would be about time!}

Then it must be time ed. Thanks for your reply

Ed001 you absolute legend. Thanks as always for the site and your straight talking, inoffensive, fair, honest responses to the majority of oats on this site.
Quick question for you from myself, what is/was it about the Otamendi situation that has caused so much hassle?
Cheers pal.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it was the amount, a lot is down to them wanting you to pay not just the buyout clause but also the tax on the amount. This is quite a common issue when Spanish clubs sell to other clubs. It can quite often make the negotiations drag on as most buying clubs are not happy about paying that, for obvious reasons. Initially you offered under the buyout clause and they were holding out for the buyout and tax amount, hence the negotiations which have been off and on for a while.}

12 Aug 2015 17:43:36
Not sure if I'm right on this but I think it's because a buyout clause has to be bought out by the player himself, so we effectively need to give the transfer fee to Otamendi so that he can then buy himself out of the contract, and as we are giving him the money it is seen as income so it can be taxed.
Cheers for the info ed always look forward to your input

Ed001 would this be a similar reason as to why it took us nearly a year to sign Herrera?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - yes. Hence why I wouldn't hold my breath on this one!}

13 Aug 2015 17:14:18
TV reporting that Utd have no interest in Otamendi. If(?) we believe them, no wonder Ed001 said 'don't hold your breath'.

Lot of jouno's based in Valencia are breaking the news that Otamendi is in the final stages of a deal with a premier league club, rumoured to be us. If it's City then I think we're 100% conceding the league there. A partnership of Smalling and Ota with Darmian and Shaw at full backs is getting back to the days of Neville, Vida, Rio and Pat.

1 good game and smalling compared to Rio???
I m not saying he is bad but only thing against him is his injury records. If he can stay fit for full season than we have a very good defender there.
But please there is a difference between good and great.

12 Aug 2015 14:23:30
Hope you are right as both Otamendi and Pedro will improve us a lot (assuming LVG picks them in their best position, their wives don't hate Manchester and they don't get robbed).

However, they won't win us the title. They might push us up to 3rd (ahead of Arsenal) but City and Chelsea still have something we don't. genuine world class 25-30 goals a season strikers.

They have Aguero and Costa who can snaffle a half chance and nick an undeserved 1-0 or 2-1 win for their clubs. we simply don't. We will need to create several chances per game for Rooney to score even one whereas City and Chelsea could win with one shot on target all game (that's how good their strikers are).

I will be madly happy if we get Otamendi and Pedro but we are not getting that title back until we get Lewandowski!

1 good game? I guess you're selectively deciding to factor in the second half of last season following his sending off at City. Is it so hard to support our own players?

Agree8 Disagree2

12 Aug 2015 15:06:33
i like smalling and think he could be quality if he stays fit, but a rio he is not !i know the term world class gets banded about a lot these days but rio was genuinely 1 of the best cb to grace the game of football

12 Aug 2015 15:09:15
We really need a centre half and Otamendi looks the best choice of who is available - If we can maintain the same back four in Darmian - Smalling - Otamendi - Shaw we should have a strong, solid unit along with the extra protection our midfield will now serve.

As for going forward Pedro and a number 9 will probably give us a very good window - all our problem areas will have been addressed

Not sure how true this is from various Spanish media but apparently Ramos has agreed to a contract extension (no surprise) and we are very close to deals for otamendi and pedro. Would be a very good window with those 2 additions I think
