Lots of rumours going round that Ashley Young was the "mytery man".

Would be very cheap in the summer because of his contract situation but i don't think he would be a player that improves our squad that much.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted he is out to land an unspecified player this summer.

The Old Master has revealed he made a move in the January transfer window that ultimately did not come off.

Whilst not specifying who his target was - or what position they occupy on the field - the United boss is determined to finally land his man in the summer.

Ferguson, who has been linked with signing a new keeper due to Edwin van der Sar'simpending retirement, told United Review: "Billionaire owners have introduced a new world that is turning football on its head.

"For our part, we cannot afford to sit in an ivory tower. We have to face the challenge.

"It is a healthy competition and it goes without saying that we will not shirk it and I don't think we are doing so.

"Although I let the transfer window shut without signing a new player, that is because we did our homework some time ago and didn't have to rush into any emergency buying.

"We had an interest in one player, and I thought we had a chance of bringing him in, but the other parties involved weren't ready and so we have put it away until the summer."

To happen, but we must be realistic. put yourself in the glazers place they have a business that is incresing in value every year, they have no reason to sell, the more of the debt they can reduce the more profit they walk away with. it doesn't make sense for them to sell just yet. if united some how fail to finish in the top4 in the next few season they they will have to sell.'"""
dear sir,
as usual ngiak would like to disagree.the smart thing to do is sell when the value is on an upward trend.
and you say our value is going up?
yes and no. many of our world star names are being sold. but the sponsors are increasing
if we finish out of the top 4 what sir do you think willhapen? the value goes up or stays the same or plummets?
well if they were smart after selling so many big players and not getting in any, with the stock price us still good while we are going fairly well on the pitch, they should sell.
ein winfor all. they get goodmoney.
and the club will get badly needed funds for reinforcements. .
thus us the time ngiak thinks. .
ganI must admit, if the Glazers were to sell they woould want top dollar. If you think about it, the Red Knights, Chinese billionaires and now Qatari holdings have been linked with takeovers. IF here is genuine interest in partied being interested in purchasing Man Utd then the Glazers are in the driving seat. One things for sure they know how to increase revenue at least, i personally think they are in it for the long haul.

If/ when the debt is repayed the Glazers are sitting on a goal mine, especially if they can sell the TV rights like Real Madrid do.

They also know which markets to tap into.

Ed what do you think {ed's note - I can't see them selling just now, there are still a few untapped areas for the club to exploit and raise its value.}

Ed. . what you think

Thinking long term the Glazers could be good for us as they could increase the revenue in the club by alot, ans thus the value of the club like you said. However with the new rules by Fifa coming into play soon, we could benefit from this in the long run. Hypothetically speaking if we signed a player from Japan, China and Chile, or another S. American country then we would have an increase in revenue like Park and Hernandez have brought to the club where they pay their own way and in a sense pay thier own wages and transfer fee. Correct me if im wrong here, but with there correct signings we could really increase the clubs revenue.

Ed. . what you think {ed's note - I don't see how that would make the Glazers good for the club. Whoever owned the club would do the same things, but they might not put the club in debt to do it.}

Alot of people on here seem to think the glazer will sell united, people are saying they will sell for the right price. i belive they will not sell unless they are force to i.e if they can no longer afford the re-payments, they know the price of united can only go up the longer they hold out, and as long as they are making the re-payment and chipping away at the debt then the more profit they will make when they come to sell. im not trying to have a go at every1 saying we will be taken over cos we all wish for that to happen, but we must be realistic. put yourself in the glazers place they have a business that is incresing in value every year, they have no reason to sell, the more of the debt they can reduce the more profit they walk away with. it doesn't make sense for them to sell just yet. if united some how fail to finish in the top4 in the next few season they they will have to sell.

Come on guys.
You all pretend the money they get for United today won't increase in time.
They would of course invest the money somewhere else again and (hopefully) get interest etc. again.
It's simple: How much will they walk away with next year, in 2 years time, 3 years time etc.
And how much do you have to pay them today to have the same money in that time frame.
Is Manchester United going to outgrow other businesses? By what margin etc.

I am sure they did that math and came up with some amount and will sell as soon as that is met.
We can just guess how high they value United today and in the future.

P.S.: As soon as the club is in financial trouble the worth is going to nosedive, no smart businessman will wait for that point to sell.

Appreciate that below Ed, very helpful cheers! :) {ed's note - no need to thank me, that was sent into the Liverpool site and I thought it would be useful so saved them. I am going to create an FAQ for these kind of things.}

ED , any links to the city vs united match? cheers :) {ed's note - this is the best way I have found:
1. Install the browser Google Chrome.

2. Look in the top right (your right) corner and you will see a spanner.

3. Click on the spanner and select 'tools'.

4. Click on extensions

5. At the bottom right (as you look at it) you will see 'Get More Extensions >>'. Select this.

6. In the search box type 'Chrome Live Football' and search.

7. Click on Chrome Live Football and then click on install. (it may download to a holding file in the bottom left as you look at it, in which case as soon as it's finished click there, but mostly it will install itself)

8. A small football will then appear in the top right (as you look at it). Click on that, select 'live stream' and reset the clock to GMT and it will list all the live games available all over europe and other places.

You may occasionally need to install other programmes or the link you pick will only work on Explorer (in which case cut and paste the URL into Explorer), but you will always get every Liverpool match (or any other). Sometimes you will only be able to find it with foreign commentary and sometimes you will get it in English. You'll get about thirty links and you may have to look through a lot of them to get what you want. You will also get most La Liga matches, Greek matches, Italian matches and French matches as well as top matches from South America.

Someone also asked about viruses etc. Google Chrome is actually far more secure than Internet Explorer so the risks are considerably less, but you should have decent virus/ spyware programmes and run sweeps regularly as a matter of course.

The quality will also depend on the speed of your internet connection. If you have super-speed and have a modern HD TV, consider connecting your PC to the TV via the PC socket on the side/ back.}

'Glazer will not sell united, they have no reason to. the only way they would sell is if united fall out of the top 4 like liverpool and they can no longer keep up with the re-payment, until that day come they will never sell.'

Everything is for sale for the right price in business, the Glazers will have a price in mind at which they would sell be it £1.6 billion £2 billion or £5 billion we can only speculate at the moment. What is certain is that the Qataris could easily afford to meet the asking price whatever it may be and so IF they do want to buy the club it only depends on how much they want it. Not saying a deal will or won't happen just that there is no reason why it couldn't.
The bottom line is all that matters to the Glazers. Football clubs cannot be especially efficient businesses and until the premier league is restructured allowing the sale of individual TV rights united will never be anything like as profitable as say £1.6 bil spread across even a fairly conservative investment portfolio.

Look guys forget the Glazers selling. .international & American press agencies are reporting "that although the Qatar Royal Family have shown their interest in Manchester United the club is not for sale at any price". . and in their own country they are reporting that "Qatar holdings did express interest in buying MUFC but that has now ended as the present owners have indicated the club is not for sale even if they offered 10billion".

Can we forget about this now. . .

Lets face it they didn't have to sell during a recession did they so now things are on the up, we are the 3rd richest club in the world, and the deals they have on the table are the most lucrative ever they are not going to sell are they. They would be mad to do so. . .And lets not forget we have just tapped into South America where we are about to take on legions more fans. . so please can we stop this, the club is clearly not going to be sold.
