Report on the tv tonight "United will not be looking to buy and sell "a huge number of players" this summer, according to executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward."

Oh deep joy. The excuse he used " it will de-stabilise the team"

Makes a change from "no value"

To be fair he actually said that transfer activity would be broadly in line with previous summers with circa 3 players being sold and a similar number coming in potentially 1 or 2 more. So potentially 5 players coming in which is roughly what people on here have been saying we need.

Let's just hope the yanks puppet does not make the same horlicks of it as he did last summer. I don't see why we don't hire David Gill as a negotiator/ facilitator for the the transfer windows. Does his current role preclude him from doing so due to conflicts of interest?

Which makes sense if you think about it.

We need a left back, centre back and two midfielders. Not lots of signings in the scheme of things. Add to that some promoted youth.

Regards departures well evra, Rio, vidic and giggs are all out contract. No sales but four gone. We're not really going to count macheda and bebe are we? In terms of first team squad sales it looks like nani, Anderson and either or both kagawa and Hernandez. So lots leaving but not many sales.

Not a bad idea on Gill, certainly to consider his experience, although I heard he was a negotiator on the Mata deal but no idea if true.

He did state it would not be a 'typical' Manchester United Transfer window where 3 come in and 3 go out. 5 is a realistic target, 3 key main well known targets. With maybe 2 young/fringe players also. Who these will be will be more interesting.
I'd love to see Vertonghen, Kroos and Reus as those 3. With maybe Moreno/Shaw, then a younger Center Mid; Halliovic for example. It'll certainly be an interesting one.

Ed

Is the story of Vidal signing an extension true as I can't find anything from Juve or the player confirming it. It seems like a story by the mail that now is getting picked up by other outlets.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - He signed a new agreement a few months ago and the expectation is that he is to be offered a new contract in the summer. I was in Milan yesterday and the feeling there is that Juventus might be willing to let Pogba leave but they want to hang on to Vidal. PSG remain very interested in Pogba.}

Thanks ed. Do you see us switching our attention to Pogba if Vidal is not available or is there too much history there with the player.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I don't see Pogba returning.}

If ed 002 is around. a question if u have time,
now both Vidal and koke has signed new bumper deals with their respective club; what do you think as manchester united's new transfer targets for midfield. are they looking at any potential targets? now its highly unlikely that any of koke or vidal wil arrive in near future.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Vidal was always going to be difficult and Koke was never going to move in January. Targets will become clearer in the next couple of months.}

Ed002, absolutely fantastic info thanks.
Would you agree that in the summer United will have money to spend and will look to bring in at least 4 or so new faces?
KingGiggsy

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I cannot say "at least" four unless you are counting fringe players, but money will be available over the next three windows to rebuild where necessary.}

Ed, do you know if Cavanni is available in the summer and if MUFC are interested like the papers are saying.
Thanks.

Believable1 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - Cavani's representatives spoke to another club recently about possible options for the summer if a situation in Paris is not resolved. If he were to be available I would think that MUFC would be interested.}

He is looking to leave as he's being played out of position

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - They are looking at options right now - that is all. PSG will certainly not be looking to sell.}

Eds Who do you think Cavani would replace, Van Persie does not look happy would it be him? Also have we any interst in Coleman from Everton and do you think we might move for him in the Summer?

Cheers

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I can't answer about Cavani replacing anyone at MU. There is interest from elsewhere in Coleman - whether or not MU become interested we will see.}

It appears Vidal has signed a new Juventus contract until 2018

Believable25 Unbelievable3

Used again to get a better deal, I hope dm wasn't banking on Vidal coming

Agree1 Disagree0

Only a highly unreliable English newspaper seems to be reporting this and the others have piggy backed on the story.

There is absolutely nothing in Italy or any official announcement from Juve.

Although the Editor did say that Juve would be unlikely to sell or the player wanting the move so a new deal wouldn't surprise me.

Agree0 Disagree0

Eric is god, Vidal never once said he's interested in move to us or anything like that so how could he use us to get a better deal?

There was genuine interest from us, the media hyped it up as per usual.

Reports that Vidal has signed a new 200k a wk deal with juve. Eds, if true this would mean 0% chance of a move this summer? Shame.

Believable23 Unbelievable4

Not necessarily as lots of players havesigned new contracts, only to be sold 6 months later. Just means Juve can get more money for him now. If we offerend 40+ m and nani they would probbly consider it. Only time will tell KG as he would be a great signingfor us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Contracts don't mean a lot. Only thing they are good for is how much money people are going to earn.

Agree1 Disagree0

Hard to believe and 200k sounds outlandish especially at Juve.

Agree1 Disagree0

Contracts don't mean a lot, they are what keeps a players value at its maximum, it makes a big difference
