Does anyone know the kick off time for the match against Amazulu next Wednesday?

I don't, but I'm sure it's going to be Too Good To Be Forgotten.

Kick off is at 7pm UK time.

Countdown is on a number of times thoughout the day on mufc but the kick off is 06:50 pm

AUSRED

Agree0 Disagree0

MUTV coverage is from 6.50p.m-9.30p.m next Wednesday, so I'm presuming it'll be about 7 or 7.30p.m

Agree0 Disagree0

Kick off 8pm UK time on MUTV but program starts at 6.50pm

Just minus one hour from what local time kick off is. Africa is only an hour ahead!

BBC Sport says 20:00 for kick off they should be right .

Haha people tell you with such definite thinking that they are correct and you have about 4 different times. Only one of you is right. I think I'll find out off the website nearer the time though!

Can't wait to see kagawa and Powell and I hope rio does a video diary again!

OT is like Fort Knox at the minute as SAF and DG try to wrap up the new signings. What i am hearing is that Utd are Modric's third choice behind Madrid & Chelsea. Lucas Moura wants a move to europe and would prefer a warmer climate than Mcr but an offer has been made and he has been given 48 hours to think it over. Baines is 99% done and will sign upon return from holiday. Arsenal have been offered £15M plus a player (fryers, anderson or carrick) for RVP but they are wanting Cleverley plus £20m.

Believable6 Unbelievable25

Did fryers not already join spurs?

canona's legal team

Agree0 Disagree0

Fryer's is a free agent, so not sure were your info is coming from?

Agree0 Disagree0

Lies, lies and more lies.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Yet again, you Man Utd fans getting all your facts totally wrong!!! Why O why would a club have a full photo shoot and launch a new kit with a player that was going to be leaving? You have to face facts guys, you won't get your player this time I'm afraid. Baines is a blue and he has said he wants to stay. Plus your lot are trying to get him cheap. Go and find a different club to poach youngsters off!! Better still, try to develop your own youth system as you've not produced since the Beckham era.

Leicester Toffee {Ed007's Note - Wasn't RVP in the Arsenal kit pictures? That stuff means nothing mate, I'm not saying Baines is leaving but don't take stuff like that to mean anything.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I've always wondered whether inside Fort Knox is anything like it was on Goldfinger. And wasn't Bond lucky that Oddjob's hat was just the right width to jam between those bars? Weren't you, Bond?

Anyway: "Arsenal have been offered £15M plus a player (fryers, anderson or carrick) for RVP but they are wanting Cleverley plus £20m." - Fryers eh? That'll be one over on the Spurs for Arsenal, won't it?

DarkLard08 {Ed007's Note - Where Oddjobsh hat got jammed wash not my conshern, it wash all about the shex to me.}

Agree0 Disagree0

With a centre mid a must and Baines a done deal as you say, it makes the last bit about RVP for one of our middfielders highly unlikely. We need a centre mid so we're not going to swap one for a striker!

Agree0 Disagree0

And finally, every word of this bullsh*t is bullsh*t. Such bullsh*t.

G.A.G.U.S

Agree0 Disagree0

Fryer's is a free agent, so not sure were your info is coming from but it is not correct.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fryers contract is expired , so how can we offer him in exchange for van persie , if ur gona make stuff up make it beliveable

Agree0 Disagree0

Gotta laugh at the comment were tryin to get baines on the cheap jordi alba to barca for 12 million and were trying to get baines cheap wot a laugh at how much you think he,s worth plus how many players have we sold to everton, short memory me thinks matey lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Did Everton develop Baines as a youth? I'm pretty sure they brought him from Wigan

Agree0 Disagree0

OT is like fort knox yet you are aware of everything happening within it. Are you a wasp that is able to hear, speak english and type or as more likely making it up as you go along.

Leicester toffee,

2 of our youth products are in your first team you idiot. Gibson and Neville, and you got them both pretty cheap if I remember rightly, as well as Saha and Howard. I can understand you are annoyed we want to sign a player, but I believe you have signed more from us than we have from you in recent seasons, and for much cheaper.

Can anyone tell me more info on lucas mora is his 35million price tag worth it? I know he's 5th something as well as kagawa quite a small midfield if the rumors are correct

Thanks for your help {Ed007's Note - Have a read at this:

player-profiles.co.uk/lucas-moura.php

Believable5 Unbelievable7

Lucas moura is fast deceptively tough , gritty , skilful and very dangerous as he believes in his ability and drives at anyone . He needs refining and we have the perfect trainer at the club to help with his development Im not so sure he will come but I promise you this , if he does we've got the makings of one hell of a player once we get to work on him . Ed's, if you got a sec, do you know much about the Ghanaian RB, Daniel Opare? He's 21 and plays for Standard Liege and has come out claiming he'd love to play for Man Utd!

Do you think he is a possible target or have we been linked with him?

Thank you

Ports {Ed007's Note - I don't know anything about him Ports, sorry mate.}

Believable6 Unbelievable3

No worries Ed007, thanks anyway mate.

Ports {Ed007's Note - I will ask Ed022 (he does the profiles) about him and get back to you.}

Agree0 Disagree0

He used to be on the books at Real Madrid who signed him after he played well and the under 17 world cup if memory serves me right. But they didn't feel he'd make the grade for what ever reason and let him go. As for him saying he'd like to play for us? Sure who wouldn't? doesn't mean we have any interest in him. He isn't as good as Rafael and is around the same age. Why sign him? It's not like we don't have cover for RB. I think it is an attempt by him and his agent to maybe get a move somewhere, but it's unlikely it'll be us.

Shappy

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd love to play for united but I'm ok at right back, could hold my own against most of the top players but raw speed would make me look average . Should united consider me too and I'm not African so no language or culture shift ?? WPBNP

Agree0 Disagree0

Legend, cheers mate.

Ports

Agree0 Disagree0

Shappy,

There were strong links with Clyne and us, also a RB which tells me maybe we are interested in another RB as cover/competition for Rafael! I am not suggesting he is signed as a direct replacement but although we have cover at RB in Smalling, Jones, Valencia, they are not natural RB's!

Why are looking at Baines if Rumours are to be believed? We have Evra, Fabio on our books that we could of kept hold of, Blackett! Baines is 27, if he signed, prob be a 3/4 year contract, is Fabio going to be happy to wait until he's 24/25 before he becomes first choice? Is Blackett gonna be prepared to wait til he's 20/21 til he's given an opportunity?

Ok, the lad didn't make the grade at Real Madrid, Andy Cole didn't make the grade at Arsenal but ended up currently as the Prem's 2nd all time leading scorer, it's a good job we didn't ignore him because he couldn't cut it at Arsenal!

As for WPBNP, that argument is the worst one people can have on here, "I'd love to play for Man Utd so they should sign me!".

First off, the lad is a professional footballer, secondly he represents his national side, Ghana, who are no mugs, thirdly, he clearly had some ability which made Real Madrid go for him at 17 yrs old, just because he didn't cut it there could just suggest he has developed slower then other players.

So, a cheap, young RB, he is an option was all I was suggesting.

P.s, I'm not his agent!

Lewandowski was the bundesliga player of the season 2011-12. not kagawa. i just confirmed it from bundesliga official website. Although kagawa was unstoppable towards the end of the season, he had a slow start to the season, probably the reason why he lost the award to Lewandowski.

Rennes manager Frederic Antonetti has said that. Arsenal have pulled out of thhe M'villa deal after all terms were agreed.

Could we snatch him?

-JakeW

Believable5 Unbelievable12

Sir Alex doesn't try to snatch anyone. He has his targets well before the start of the transfer season and he sticks to them. He's not going to be interested just because Arsenal are not trying to sign him.

Red Joe

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe your first thought should be why did they pull out? Wenger isn't a fool and would only pull.out for a good reason.

Shappy

Agree0 Disagree0

Who's to say we haven't identified him since Pogba has left. We wouldn't know about it if we were interested

Wenger is a fool if the deal was agreed and the player wanted to go to arsenal.

Leighton Baines and Lucas Moura deals are now done baines will be going on pre season tour with the squad lucas moura deal wont be finalised in time. as for more outs.

Anderson wants to stay and says he has a point to prove although man utd will listen to offers.

Berbatov is wanting to leave but no club has come in for him with money utd want 5mil galatasary want him on a free and leverkusen want him back on a free

the modric deal was no.1 priority but spurs wont take a penny less than 38mil and dont want any players in part ex. although they will take 30mil from psg/madrid

Man Utd interested in Lucas

Fergie's going Brazilian
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson wants to make Brazil's next big thing - Sao Paulo starlet Lucas Moura - his big summer signing. Fergie has sent a delegation headed by chief scout Jim Lawlor to thrash out a deal for the 19-year-old, who is also wanted by Chelsea and Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Ferguson is pleading with United's owners, the Glazer family, to spend up to £30million on the youngster who tops his hit-list as he aims to improve his side after a trophyless season. United have been on the Moura's trail for months and invited his father to Old Trafford for talks - as Mirror Sport revealed in April. Now, they have gone to Brazil in a bid to seal the massive transfer. Moura, who has already capped by his country, is valued at £35m by Sao Paolo, but United are looking at ways of bringing down the price while also winning over the player and his loved ones. The youngster's contract is part-owned by his family. If they back a move to Old Trafford, it could give Ferguson's hopes of pulling off the coup a real boost.

Agree0 Disagree0

As soon as a paper says something like 'Fergie is pleading with the owners' the article loses all credibility. SAF is not the type to beg, he will know his budget as well, if he feels the player is right, then he would have the last say.

Neil {Ed007's Note - Some have moved elsewhere and others it may only have been fleeting interest but my understanding is that, amongst others, Manchester United have considered at one level or another the following players recently: Adryan Tavares, Armero, Asamoah, Azpilicueta, Benatia, Cissokho, Clyne, Corgnet, Debuchy,, Dede, Elm, Eriksen, Fischer, Gaitan, Ganso, Javi Garcia, Giroud, Goetze, Santiago Garcia, Hazard, Izaguirre, Kagawa, Konoplyanka, Kovacic, Mateo, Lewandowski, Javi Martinez, Moura, Lucas, Muniain, M'Vila, Ramirez, Powell, James Rodriguez, Sneijder, Strootman, Witsel, Wolfwinkel and Xhaka.}

Luka Modric to Man Utd

United to offer Spurs Carrick and cash for Modric?

Tottenham may have an interesting transfer offer to consider if talk swirling round Upton Park yesterday is accurate.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is trailing Croatia star Luka Modric and is prepared to send Michael Carrick back to White Hart Lane plus £10million to land the Spurs playmaker.
LiamsBiz

Believable1 Unbelievable27

Why would talk about modric to
Man utd being going around west hams ground?

Agree0 Disagree0

If recent figures are to be believed, that values Carrick at £25m-£30m!
No overly sure that can be true, Carrick has been linked with a move back to Spurs many times

Sambo

Agree0 Disagree0

Ill send carrick + Cash for Modric

Agree0 Disagree0

We don't treat our players like that, we very rarely do swap deals because if they don't come off you end up hurting the players moral.

Plus Carrick is one of our most important players, and we need more CM's not the same amount.

Red Joe

Agree0 Disagree0

So Carricks worth 25 million as Spurs want 35 Mill for Modric!!!

Think before you write

PBMUFC

Agree0 Disagree0

What a ridiculous post, that would mean Carrick is worth 15-20 million pounds at the ripe old age of 31.
Spurs want approx 35-40 million for Modric.

Have you have your tablet today?

It would be more like £20m plus Carrick if you ask me. Also, if Modric came in I would see him playing alongside Carrick in CM. So in other words - can't see it!

I guess today's press conference puts to bed all the rumoured midfielders arriving...Baines deal is almost confirmed and is 'one more' Sir Alex spoke about.

With the following midfielders do we need another?...Scholes, Giggs, Young, Nani, Kagawa, Anderson, Carrick, Jones, Valencia..Cleverly?

Personally I was getting excited about another midfield, but is their any need?

Steve the red

Believable11 Unbelievable12

Surely, he said " one, possibly two"?

J - Stand

Agree0 Disagree0

If that so,we can't win the title back even champions league.scholes is old now, carrick not good enough, anderson always injury, cleverly not world class yet.jones is not holding midfielder .to compared to man city midfielders, barcelona, madrid, munich, juventus.we have 0% to win anything. its very sad as manutd fan to say that, but we have to be hones for each other.we need modric/moutihno.holding m'villa/tiote

Agree0 Disagree0

Of course we need another midfielder in the centre, did you watch any games last season? Toure tore our midfield apart when we played city. Fellani did the same when we drew 4-4 with the toffees. Let's face it Scholes although a legend is past it, same as Giggs. And Carrick anderson erc are simply not good enough if we want to compete with the best in Europe!
Benji

Agree0 Disagree0

It's the center of midfield where we are struggling.
Scholes is 37, Giggs is 38, Clevery has alot to prove, Anderson is always injured, Fletcher won't be coming back anytime soon.
Massive need if you ask me!

Simmo

Agree0 Disagree0

You didn't put in Powell who will play in midfield a lot more then Kagawa but anyway, if Anderson and Cleverly come good this season and Jones is properly developed into DM/CM then no I don't think so.

Red Joe

Agree0 Disagree0

It's more about quality rather than quantity! Our CM lacks top quality, has done for a while

Gav

Agree0 Disagree0

If Anderson and Cleverley remain fit, we don't need a new CM, when we still have the likes of Scholes and Carrick putting in the performances they did last season. Then there's Kagawa and the lad Powell; not to mention Jones, who can also play CM very comfortably.

I personally think we have a strong midfield when everyone is fit.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes I watched many games last season. We lost the title with last kick..Cleverly and Anderson injured for most of season, so with those two back in addition to Kagawa, my point/question still stands...only a friendly debate between fans

Steve the red

Agree0 Disagree0

Powell is a striker??

Steve the red

Agree0 Disagree0

Powell played for crewe as an SS but SAF is planning on making him a CM.

Red Joe

Agree0 Disagree0

Anderson and Cleverley are mid table midfielders, surrounded by quality players. We really need 2 midfielders, but are desperate for an all round midfielder,- Moutinho, Witsel, Fellani or at a push Dembale. Would love M'villa and Moutinho, but we're too skint
Mik

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes Anderson and Cleverly were injured, but Andersons always injured.

Also, (ignoring jones who isn't a real midfielder) Carrick is the most defensive of the lot which is poor. I know what SAF said about holding midfielders, but we still need a cm who can tackle and make the opposing midfields life hard, all ours are passers with no bite, which is why our midfield gets dominated against big teams.

Thorne

Agree0 Disagree0

People keep saying that we were great at start of season with Anderson and Cleverley but they been injured. As far as I can see thus far these two are always injured so I will rely on them when we get a full season out of one/both of them

New signings shown off today. Saf says at least one more new signing which is obviously Baines and maybe 2 hopefully another midfielder.

Believable11 Unbelievable6

12 Jul 2012 13:33:55
Seeing the manager's press conference says it all really. He says 1 or 2 players could come in. Baines & Modric must be the two he is referring to.

Sydney!

Believable13 Unbelievable12

Doubt it ,id say its lucas moura!

Agree0 Disagree0

It sounds like he's pretty sure he's got at least 1 more player more or less tied up (baines), and the other that is still only a possibility (modric).

Agree0 Disagree0

Think he gave up on modric a while ago... May come back in if the Madrid deal falls through

fearny

Agree0 Disagree0

What planet are you on Sydney, Baines is probably staying at EFC and Modric is going to Real Madrid, come on mate common sense

Agree0 Disagree0

Fergie says he is hopeful of signing one more so no central midfielder it will be a left back

Agree0 Disagree0

What it also implies is that if we don't get those targets he has no plans for alternatives. If we don't get Modric, then what? Stick with Scholes for another year? Our midfield is in worse condition than last season, Giggs and Scholes another year older, Fletcher gone, Pogbab gone, Cleverly lost almost a full year of development, and Anderson still a big waste of injury prone space.

Fergie back to managing expectations, everyone can see that we need at least one top class midfield player, most acknowledge that two would be a more accurate number. But Fergie is telling us that if Modric chooses Madrid he has no plan b, no back up (and this is us believing that Modric and not someone like Dembele is the target).

Last summer you said that if we didn't sign a top midfield player you would have to admit that we lack funds. Since then you have paraded excuse after excuse after excuse. If we don't sign someone this time round there can be no excuse. Can anyone honestly argue that our midfield is good enough to compete at the top level?

Danny Pughnited

Agree0 Disagree0

Gotta gree with Syd. Baines will be coming and Modric is the other one being chased.

MDJ

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm with Sydney here. BBC have published it as 1 player, Utd website says 1 or 2.

1 is being worked on now and that is Baines. It's not very cloak and dagger but it isn't fully public. We have murmurs in the office from our season ticket holders that it will be sorted soon...this week maybe.

The other will be Modric. I don't think Levy will have much choice of who to accept if he has enough paper laid on the table infront of him. If he falls through, it will be Moutinho...but he could be Spurs bound to replace Modric who will be off to us or Madrid.

After that...I hear Alan Smith is looking for a club...

SB

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd

I just hope it's not the one player being Baines when we are so desperate for a midfielder.

Simmo

Agree0 Disagree0

Danny, I did say that last summer, but then we went and spent £50m on players we didn't have to spend £50m on. It's hard to say we are skint if we are spending £50m on unnecessary signings. Yes we needed a keeper, but we never had to spend £18m on one. We could have kept JOS instead of spending £16.5m on Jones and we didn't particularly need Young when we had Nani and Valencia. That is why I couldn't admit we were skint as we wouldn't have blew £50m if that was the case. The manager isn't stupid and would have used his funds more carefully.

Modric is not a cheap option with £7m+ a year in wages and fee between £25m-£35m. So if we are willing to buy him and we were willing to buy Hazard, then I think the money is there if the manager wants it for a 'special' player. I think this is more to do with SAF being his stubborn self and thinking if he doesn't get Modric then he will wait til next year and see what is available. Personally I think that would be a major mistake. I think a lot of things depend on outgoings too, we are struggling to offload players like Kiko, Anderson and Berbatov.

I do not think we have £30m to go out and blow on a player unless we have done serious research on them and scouted them well. I cannot see us spending £30m on someone like Moura, but I think the money is there for a Modric. In terms of our midfield, I think we need a Modric, but if RM get him then what? There isn't many players like this around unfortunately and from what the media are saying Modric does fancy the RM move and Spurs do not want to sell to us. We have Jones, Carrick, Scholes, Tunnicliffe, Powell, Petrucci, Anderson & Cleverley available for the two midfield spots. I would want Modric added to that list, but it's going to be tough.

Who would you buy if Mods moves to RM?

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Simmo, I really think Baines is the likely one mate unfortunately. The manager is so stubborn he would probably close the wallet if we miss out on Modric. The more people try to convince him to buy in the midfield area via the media, the more stubborn he will become.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

SB I don't mean to disappoint you but didn't mk dons snap up Alan smith?

Philiphs93

Agree0 Disagree0

The thing is sydney every one on this site knows we need a cm, and if saf thinks what we have can cope he is deluded, if we have got the funds then there is no one else to blame other than saf. Cabaye is an improvement on what we have mvilla witsel are available moutinho but he only wants spurs what does that say for us? We all thought our cm situation needed sorting and it looks like we will have to stick with the 'same cows in the field'. Do you think that midfield you mentioned is good enough to compete? tom17

Agree0 Disagree0

What you said last year was that it was obvious to everyone that we needed a cm, so the fact that we bought other players wasn't part of it at all. The fact of the matter is that we didn't buy a quality cm last year and we ended the season with nothing.

From the midfielders you have listed Scholes has come back for retirement, Jones is a defender and has been poor every time he has played in midfield for us, Tunnicliffe, Powell and Petrucci have zero experience at this level, and Anderson has continually proven that he simply isn't good enough in this position. So we have one top quality midfield player at the club, and one player who has potential. Again I ask you: do you think that our midfield is good enough to compete against the best midfields in Europe?

There are a whole host of players who have been suggested: Moutinho, Martinez, M'Vila, Garcia, Cabaye, Sahin, Sven Bender, Fellaini, Thiago, and on and on. It's not a case of finding that special player, it's a case of realising that there many many many midfield players that are better than what we have at the moment. If everyone else can see that, then we know that Fergie can see it too. So we have to ask why he hasn't fixed a problem that has been evident for at least the last three years. The truth is that whenever we have moved for a "special" player, they have rejected us because we can't compete at the top end of the wage market. The reality is that there is no logical reason, other than lack of funds, that we haven't improved our midfield.

no one is saying we are skint but it is quite clear to many that our main drive is young players who cost no more than 18 mill, which ensure that we get a good re sale.

is it possible that we could sell jones and ddg for more than we bought them maybe even covering there wages.

i find it hard to believe that a manager can be as successful as fergy over such a long period of time and be as stubborn as you suggest.

people think that united will no longer spend 30 mill on a player and i can understand why, have you one shred of evidence that we will other than rumours.

i always believed we would still spend very big on a single player untill the end of last summer i was very surprised that we never got a top draw CM and ive been a united fan for 40 years what would it take you to change your views.
jred

Agree0 Disagree0

Tom, I have made it clear that it could be SAF's fault down to his stubbornness and I have also said that I firmly believe we need a Modric in our club and I will not be happy with no midfielder coming in. However I do understand the club's problems when replacing Scholes. I do not think Cabaye is much of an improvement, nor is Witsel and M'Vila. I do think Moutinho could do a job for us, but we look to be going all out for Mods and will probably miss out on Joao.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Danny, but we have had funds haven't we? That is my point. You keep forgetting that we spent £50m last summer therefore we could have used that to buy a midfielder if the manager thought we really needed it. Unless you think DDG, Jones & Young was bought with gummy bears? The problem last summer was Nasri's U-turn and Sneijder not budging on his wage demands. If we were debt-free I still do not believe we would pay Nasri £175k a week or Sneijder £250k a week.

I have said in pretty much every post that we need a midfielder and I think Modric is the right one. I do not think the midfield we currently have can compete with the best. I think Moutinho, Martinez, Garcia & Sahin could do a job for us, but are they available and if so do they want to sign for us? Thiago is too attacking. M'Vila & Bender too defensive and one-dimensional. Fellaini IMO isn't good enough and I have my doubts about Cabaye too. Both would cost upwards of £25m too and both not worth that amount. Moutinho and Modric fit the profile perfectly and are both available, but do they want to join us?

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Jred, we spent £30m on Berbatov in 2008 when our finances were a shambles, we have the same owners and more cashflow now so why wouldn't they spend that now? Do you have any evidence that we are not willing to spend £30m on a player? Hazard who we shown around OT and agreed personal terms with would have cost over £30m. Sneijder would have cost over £30m had we agreed personal terms. Modric will cost more than £30m if he agrees to sign for us. We will not spend £30m willy nilly, but we would pay it for a top player.

Why would the Glazers buy Jones and DDG to sell them on for more money in the future? To make a profit the club would need to get £60m minimum for them. Ridiculous thing to say IMO.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

So what you're saying is that Fergie is purposely putting the club at a disadvantage in the name of personal pride? If that's the case then surely he should be replaced by someone who will make sure that the club comes first.

And who at the club, aside from Carrick, is better than the three players you mentioned?

Danny Pughnited

Agree0 Disagree0

Danny, I think the manager will get fed up like he did last summer. Nasri let us down big time and Sneijder ended up our last resort, then the manager loses his patients and stops looking. Personally I think he got caught napping due to Nasri agreeing a deal in principle. This summer he should have learned from his mistakes, but I fear if he misses out on Modric he will get stroppy and stop looking. I hope I am wrong.

I think Garcia, Martinez & Moutinho? are better than what we currently have as we stand. But I can understand why the club would baulk at Moutinho's £32m price-tag. Garcia and Martinez are both top quality, but Garcia isn't available and Martinez is going to cost around £40m as Bilbao want the tax paid by the buying club too. This happened in the Aguero deal and he cost £38m. Another issue is Martinez is wanted by City, Inter, Barcelona, Bayern and RM. I expect Chelsea to become interested too as a replacement for Essien. Even if we were debt-free our chances of signing Martinez are slim.

I can understand the manager's reluctance to spend £25m or so on someone like Cabaye as IMO he isn't worth half that amount. Modric is the manager's number one target and I suspect Dembele maybe a last resort. I imagine he will see how the midfield gets on during the preseason tour before making his final decision on looking elsewhere for a midfielder. Dembele would cost around £8m and wouldn't be a bad buy IMO. He is not going to be Scholes replacement like Modric would have been, but he gives us numbers in that position and I think he is better than Fellaini and many seem to like Fellaini on here. In Belgium Dembele is as highly thought of as Fellaini is.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd
so your latest excuses is to blame fergy, our most successful manager.

I see you completely ignored my question what would it take to change your mind?

maybe if we were paying vast amounts towards the debt, an amount that would make it difficult for any club to compete at the top end of the market.

maybe if at the start of the transfer window fergy said we would be looking to buy young talent and develop them

maybe if we had been struggling to buy a top class midfielder for 3 seasons.

maybe if the glazers issued a legal document to the stock market that said because of the debt they we were struggling to compete in the transfer market.

no you would rather ignore that and base your opinion on what you have read in the papers.
The fact is you have drawn a line in the sand and can not admit that you may be wrong , a point illustrated last year with RFT
jred

Agree0 Disagree0

What I find most confusing is that you dismiss a whole host of players for being too defensive, yet you think Jones is suitable? M'vila and Bender are both young, athletic, better passers than Jones and have far better positional awareness. So if Jones is being groomed for midfield, like you imply, then these players are far better options and could easily adapt to more complete roles, M'vila does this already at club level. For that matter Thiago is no more attacking than Scholes was at his age.

The fact of the matter is that none of our current midfield options, apart from Carrick are better than any of the names put forward. None of the "special" players want to go to us, so we should be looking elsewhere. Dembele is the cheap option, not even Fullham's best player, but even at that he would improve our midfield. We cannot compete at the top end, we refuse to compete at the next rung, so we go for the cheap option.

Fergie wouldn't be stubborn enough to refuse to solve a gaping hole in the squad. He simply isn't being backed by funds. Everyone can see our midfield isn't good enough, so we can be damn sure Fergie can see it too. After 3 summers of inaction, there has to be a reason why we haven't even started to fix the problem. So we can believe that Fergie is so stubborn that he's willing to sacrifice the club's success to prove a point, or we can accept that he isn't being backed financially.

Danny Pughnited

Agree0 Disagree0

Danny, the manager spent FIFTY MILLION last season so do not sit there and say he hasn't had the funds. I also never said Jones was suitable to replace Scholes.

Jred, you need to make your mind up. Did the Glazers say we are struggling to compete in the transfer market because that is what they are intending to use the extra cashflow for? Or was this an excuse to get the IPO up and running and the real reason they are filing for an IPO is because they need to get the debt down simply because of the refinanced PIK's interest is connected to the bond debt?

Make your mind up, which is it?

I said a couple weeks ago that the cashflow at the club is fine and it's been better than it's ever been under the Glazers so they must have another agenda for this IPO. Seems I was right if you believe what AG says. I knew this wasn't for the fans and I knew it wasn't leopards changing their spots.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd
the ipo will achieve both pal, by reducing the debt this would obviously keep the "total debt to EBITDA" under control.
which would stop the interest payments on the money borrowed to pay the IPKs of going up.
But also by reducing the debt it would increase our cashflow which would allow us to be more competitive in the transfer market (something the glazers have admitted we are struggling to be due to the debt in a legal document).
do you understand that?

also i noticed you again failed to answer my question
jred

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah Syd he spent FIFTY MILLION, and then the Ronaldo money went toward paying off debt. We also sold players, reduced our wage bill, are making record profits each year etc. But the area of the team that clearly needs the most investment is still overlooked. Perhaps because that would require a much bigger investment in terms of fees and wages? Is it not clear that this United team needs a far more substantial reinvestment to bring the midfield up to a competitive level?

But you've still failed to answer the main question put to you.

If everyone can see that our midfield is not good enough. And we assume that Fergie isn't simple and can see this too. Why, in over 3 years, have we failed to even begin to rectify a problem that keeps getting worse. It's clearly not a shortage of available options, there are lists and lists of possiblilities here alone. So are you arguing that Fergie is so stubborn that he is willing to put the team at a disadvantage to prove a point? Because if this isn't the case then what other explanatations are there? You can keep beating the bad luck drum all you want but after three years of failure to address the problem, something other than luck is involved.

Danny Pughnited

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with Syd in the fact that the money is available for SAF if he wants it. SAF is one of the best managers but following himn in a cult fashion is stupid and it is obvious how stubborn he can be with transfers. The increased stubbornes lately is to try and tell the world that anyone who moves to united should be proud to wear the shirt even if they are on smaller wages than players at city/chelsea etc.

Interesting that such experts give up there time to give us such great inside knowledge and that they have google ads plastered all over it which is a revenue stream. Its great to read opinions and rumours on here and even more amusing to read a cotemptive Scotsman who thinks he is able to insult the intelligence of his readers {Ed007's Note - For your information the revenue from the Google ads barely cover the running costs of the sites, do you think it is free to run over 50 websites? As for being a cotemptive Scotsman I have no idea what that means, and the only people's intelligence I insult are stupid people, like yourself.}

The original question about the knowledge of eds was by myself (Steve the red) and I Thankyou for your response! The follow ups were not made by myself. {Ed007's Note - We're used to abuse Steve and I am not accusing you of that but it really gets right on my nipples when people question the Eds credentials, other ones shrug it off but I can't let it go. We put a lot of hard work into these sites for no return and some of us are lucky enough we can spend a lot of time on these sites while others are out working at other jobs and then give their valuable time for nothing. As for the Google ads claim, as I said it barely covers the running costs of the sites and sometimes doesn't even do that when it's not a transfer window. It is more a hobby through our love of football and our individual clubs. We could tell you guys all the BS people want to hear as in the 'marquee' and 'superstar' signings they want and what I call hit-whoring, making up stories to attract hits, we do not need to do that. I would love to tell you people who all the Eds are and what they do but I sadly can't, I think a lot of people would be surprised. We all have our own sources and connections and the information we pass on is as accurate as our accumulated knowledge can conclude. We actually have a chat widget where we can all talk to each other and share information. Sorry for the rant mate, that wasn't particularly aimed at you, but we get this every window and it pisses me off.}

In last few years (since Eds started replying to the Posts), I have found this site to be more fun than ever. Now not only can I find the crazy stuff but also some authentic street rumours.

Don't listen to them, Eds. You guys are doing a great job.

Ed 007

If you had to put your money on it, who do you see the club bringing in on top of (potentially) Baines this summer?

Cheers in advance for your time

Stuey {Ed007's Note - I think there is a chance that Gaitan could arrive and there is still very strong interest in Fischer, Willems and Konoplyanka. If I was a betting man I might stick a cheeky £5 on Lewandowski, it might be worth risking £5 on, and remember I am a stingy Scotsman!}

Believable2 Unbelievable8

I guess then, if 1 or both of Fischer and Konopyanka came in, it would mean we'd be looking to switch Jones into a holding / ball-winning berth (along with Carrick). I've always felt that is what he's best suited to. Ed - I hope you're right about Konoplyanka, he looks a talent. Not seen enough of Fischer to like him for more than 1 achievement...

I think a lot of the time people miss the point of what SAF's trying to do. I think he's trying to transition the club ready for when he steps down - and probably realises it'll be easier for him to have 2 or 3 years where things aren't quite as rosy as a new generation beds in than it would be for a new manager.
DarkLard08 {Ed007's Note - I've always thought that would be Jones best position mate, I think he is a fantastic player and was delighted that Utd signed him.}

if not this is suicide..... we have been crying out for one for the past 3 years and not got any.

THE FUTURE 3 that we all saw coming through is no more with only tunns left and pogba and morrison gone....

kagawa is a GREAT signing.. but we need more.

if clevs, ando and carrick stay injury free for the whole season then I think we will be onto a winner, but given past history I would not want to risk this..

oxred {Ed007's Note - They may well sign a CM mate but there is isn't one I would be willing to say could happen. Personally I don't think there is any chance of signing Modric, I never have. Not through anything I know, it's just a feeling I had plus I don't think he is worth the money.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed007 or maybe it would be nice to get a worldclass player for a change rather then hoping t hey became world class {Ed007's Note - Teams are reluctant to sell world class players. Do you mean world class or just players with inflated transfer fees, who would you like to see Utd sign?}

Ed, completely agree about Jones. I've never understood the central defender nonsense - why waste a player who can get up and down the pitch for 90 minutes and bursts into the box like Robson and Keane used to?

Utd did not follow up their interest in Joao Moutinho and as it stands only Spurs have made the move to sign him. Joao wanted Champs league and would have preferred the move to Old Trafford. The fee that has been agreed in principle is lower than the £25 million reported. Clearly Utd are focussed on Luka Modric and it seems the manager is still confident that he can sign him. Being half portuguese and born in London I am a Porto and Palace fan I had hoped Nathaniel Clyne and Joao Moutinho would sign for yous, but Moutinho does need a lot of time on the ball and he will not get that in the Premiership so Modric would be your best bet. Here's a conundrum for all of you..

Considering that Lucas could potentially turn into one of the worlds best attacking football players - who would rather gamble with a big price tag on him instead of buying a player to sit further back in the midfield.

Presumably, with all his hype and his clear footballing skills he could turn out to be the next Ronaldo - but this is obviously impossible to say.

Would you rather gamble thirty million on him, or buy a centre midfield option of your choice.
