Modric will not be coming to United, Ferguson knows he needs some steel in midfield and will again look towards out of favour Real Madrid Defensive Midfielder Lassana Diarra.

Diarra is surplus to requirements at Madrid having been told he can leave if an acceptable offer comes in.

Madrid want at least £15M but expect Uniteds excellent past relationship with Madrid, and Fergusons friendship with Mourinho, see United get their man for around £12M.

Finally Ferguson will look to tie up a deal for long time target Ross Barkley from Everton with a player plus £ deal with either Park, Anderson or Macheda being the player involved, and Leighton Baines will sign for £15M.

Leaving United this summer will be J S Park, Anderson, Macheda, Fabio (Villa loan), Berbatov (PSG fee agreed £8M), Cleverley (initial 6 month loan deal back to Wigan for him to regain fitness, depending on need for him to return may be extended to full season).

God! I hope not. Lassana Diarra is surplus to requirements at Madrid for a reason and for that sort of figure strootman is a much better option.

Fergies a big admirer of Modric, if spurs have a realistic price then I think he'll do everything he can to get him, but, it is Levy we're talking about, and he likes nothing more than getting top dollar from us for any player, would not surprise me if Modric joins this summer.

In the end we are relying on Modric not wanting to move to PSG. Otherwise we are priced out of it because PSG will just bid nything for him.

There are other top midfielder apart from Modric, or even more ridiculously Barkley. M'Vila, Strootman, Cabaye, Tiote, Witsel, Martin etc. M'Vila and Martin for 35 m sounds far more complete than Modric for the same.

Hey guys, remember, this is the usual transfer pattern every window with along every player we are linked with. It is usually first we are interested, then he is definitely coming here, then there is zero chance of him coming, then chelsea or city or another club like that like him, and then he makes his decision. What I like about United is they do not like to be held to ransom...I appreciate how they told Hazard to screw off when he was making all these demands...

you want to play for us because we are United, because you will be a huge star, and you will get paid very well, and more often then not you will win trophies, but dont try and hold us up for city or psg money...

that said i still think modric is coming, lewandowski would be great of course but knowing dortmund theyll sell him next year...they usually slowly sell off a big star for profit here and there, and replace him with a young player who does become a star, but they rarely have a huge fire sale in one year...they are much more methodical...

Why would Cleverley be going on loan to get match fitness? Surely all the squad will need match fitness when the new season comes round - hence pre-season matches. Not a chance. Anderson will be going nowhere either. He is a vital cog in the wheel and should he stay fit could be the difference between us winning the title and not.

I'd be very suprised if Everton excepted 15 mil for Baines.

I've been on the Everton rumours site recently and all the fans seem to think that he's worth a lot more than 15 mill do I think the blues will hold out for the absolute maximum. I'd say that we're looking to have to pay 25 mill. I don't think he'll function as well in our team though :/

Really don't understand the huge Baines appeal?

He's a good player, over average, but is another hyped english player.

It's true he has a good set piece, however, he's getting on and at £15/20 million there are far better alternatives.

What do you all think? Ed? Sydney? Moon? Anyone else?

Completely agree don't see attraction. Moyes / everton would make us pay through the nose for him and he's just not worth that kind of money. In think evra is not the player he was 3 years ago but he is still a different level than baines

I agree there are better left backs out there and cheaper like alaba of bayern class young player whoo can also play midfield saw him in champios league and he was very comfortable going forward and good defending you would get half for what your paying for overated baines

Swap welbeck for baines eh id rather not...baines is ok but if he wasnt english we wouldnt know who he was....id rather wait a few months and not loan fabio out....or go for some1 else cause evertons asking price is scandalous....and i know fergies goin for homegrown players cause of the limitation rule...

Think Deniss Irwin, consistency is the reason for Baines being linked and if his 1st name was klaus van and he played for some Dutch (we don't compete in champs league anymore)team then you would all be raving about him.

Just curious as to why you dont think he could cut it. {Ed007's Note - I have never said he won't cut it, just at this point in time I don't think he is good enough for a regular first team starting spot for Utd. He needs to decide if he is going to be an out and out striker or lie more deep. With a top drawer striker instead of relying on Welbeck I have no doubt Utd would have won the league last season.}

Hello guys. My original post so far has been accurate. Kagawa and Powell have now both been confirmed. I spoke to my friend about Luka Modric and he is adamant that the deal will happen. He said that the PSG rumours are just rumours he will be playing for Man Utd next season. I do have some new news. My source has told me that Leighton Baines is a target. Despite originally telling me he is not. Apparently there has been contact between Utd and Everton over the last couple of days. He is now telling me that he believes both Modric and Baines will sign before the window closes. He confirmed that there is no chance of Lewandowski signing. INTHEKNOWATOT

been told that modric has agreed terms and just the fee to go. rumours going around redknapp may have resigned i doubt these (twitter story i think).

Baines is a real target, again stumbling block it price, but no terms have yet been agreed with player either.

I don't know how many players are coming and from what I've seen, no one on here does either. Like all you guys, I read all the papers, websites, blogs etc and get whispers from people with sporting links, usually low level journalists and bookies. To say "YOUR IN THE KNOW" meets little. Even if you were David Gill no one believes you anyway. Except kids and the intellectually challenged.
Mik - Not in the know, but full of opinion and hopes.

There are better,younger and maybe cheaper left backs who could make the position their own for five years or more and still have a resale value imo.

Anderson isn't needed anymore so i kinda hope we sell him to add to our transfer funds, Nani will stay IMO he's just playing hardball to improve his contract. And Park will probably be given another season to help Kagawa fit in apart from anything else.

Every chance could be all 3!, would expect Park to go,and Anderson, well, think jury still out I think, has a lot of injury probs and maybe Fergie is getting bit wise to that. Think a lot depends on the people we can get in and probably more important how much it will cost to get them, think the books will have to be balanced somewhere along the line. Me personally I think Park and Anderson. Let's not forget Utd have already offered Nani £130k a week whilst declaring their interest in Modric. Should Utd agree a deal for Modric can't see them turning their back on a deal for Nani should he accept as well. Let's not forget Berba, Owen,Maceda are also off so if Ando and Park went as well that's a bit off the wage bill. Still Rumours going round about Fletcher's fitness as well

Anderson his quiet good imo, but his injury prone and look like he doesn't have natural physical ability to go back in shape.

I think Nani will go. there are reports that Juve already have a deal agreed for around 45m euros. He's a good player but for that kind of money I would cash in and re invest in a player like Ribery. SAF has always been an admirer and I saw an article today linking him to united.

I don;t believe United will sell Nani and I don't believe Juventus have offered 38 million quid for him. I love him and think he brings some magic into our somewhat utilitarian team. But to offer 38 million quid before the Euros end, that could see his value altered, would be terrible business by the Italians, especially if you take into account they didn't lose one league game last season.Nani is 800% more likely to be here next season than Modric

It seems like it will be nani, anderson, and park, berbatov...i like nani, but get the feeling hes off to juventus..especially with juventus trying to give krasic away and telling eljero elia, who flopped bigtime there, that he can go find a club and leave on a cut price deal

Biggest problem last season was a lack of numbers. So with Cleverley and Anderson injured and Fletcher ill - we ended up playing Giggs and Park in central midfield - where they did not prosper - So i do not see us bringing one in (maybe Modric) and getting rid of three - makes no sense.

The PSG link to Modric I can't see him wanting to go play in the french league at all.As for the rumour of Utd bidding 22m,I don't believe fergie thinks he will get Modric for that fee esp with having to deal with Levy but it is a tactic he's tried before of putting a low bid in knowing it won't get excepted but the player then knows definate interest and they start kicking off with there about wanting the move and trying to force a deal.

Just heard from a polish friend who actually translated what the polish coach said. Apparently he was saying Lewandoski (sorry for spelling) is good enough to play for man utd. Reporters quickly twisted this and made it sound like whatever you want to post in the last 3 days. Kagawa is in the bag yes, only rely on Man utd website, sky lie (claimed Hazard and Sneijder signed for us before) the papers don't bother jus rumours for you to buy the papers. Sir Alex is on holiday the will not be any signings until after the Euro. Ed was up I'm new on this lovely blog. My name is Bubba United (remember this name).

The man utd website has posted the story that PSG are set to outbid united for Modric. I have a sinking feeling it will happen now.

So impressed were PSG that they "are ready to offer £30 million" to Spurs, a whopping £8m more than United's initial bid. Alex Ferguson got short shrift from the Lilywhites when he suggested that they might be willing to part with Modric for £22m, but PSG's opening offer is more likely to find favour with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

Apparently PSG coach Carlo Ancelotti regards Modric as a vital piece of his jigsaw as the Parisian club prepare for next season's Champions League. Having been taken over by a Qatari consortium in 2010, PSG have pots of cash and it's believed they're prepared to go higher than £30m if necessary in their bid to land Modric.
