Modric will not be coming to United, Ferguson knows he needs some steel in midfield and will again look towards out of favour Real Madrid Defensive Midfielder Lassana Diarra.

Diarra is surplus to requirements at Madrid having been told he can leave if an acceptable offer comes in.

Madrid want at least £15M but expect Uniteds excellent past relationship with Madrid, and Fergusons friendship with Mourinho, see United get their man for around £12M.

Finally Ferguson will look to tie up a deal for long time target Ross Barkley from Everton with a player plus £ deal with either Park, Anderson or Macheda being the player involved, and Leighton Baines will sign for £15M.

Leaving United this summer will be J S Park, Anderson, Macheda, Fabio (Villa loan), Berbatov (PSG fee agreed £8M), Cleverley (initial 6 month loan deal back to Wigan for him to regain fitness, depending on need for him to return may be extended to full season).

Believable8 Unbelievable48

God! I hope not. Lassana Diarra is surplus to requirements at Madrid for a reason and for that sort of figure strootman is a much better option.

Fergies a big admirer of Modric, if spurs have a realistic price then I think he'll do everything he can to get him, but, it is Levy we're talking about, and he likes nothing more than getting top dollar from us for any player, would not surprise me if Modric joins this summer.

Charla

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't generally agree with much syd says but this is a garbage rumour . Diarra really lol . Baines and Barkley ? Park goin ? Clevs back on loan when saf was adamant that him and welbeck would not go on loan again as it would hamper their progression. DISNEY !

Agree0 Disagree0

Was that the same Madrid that fergie wouldnt sell a virus too? Strange comment

Agree0 Disagree0

In the end we are relying on Modric not wanting to move to PSG. Otherwise we are priced out of it because PSG will just bid nything for him.

Agree0 Disagree0

There are other top midfielder apart from Modric, or even more ridiculously Barkley. M'Vila, Strootman, Cabaye, Tiote, Witsel, Martin etc. M'Vila and Martin for 35 m sounds far more complete than Modric for the same.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hey guys, remember, this is the usual transfer pattern every window with along every player we are linked with. It is usually first we are interested, then he is definitely coming here, then there is zero chance of him coming, then chelsea or city or another club like that like him, and then he makes his decision. What I like about United is they do not like to be held to ransom...I appreciate how they told Hazard to screw off when he was making all these demands...

you want to play for us because we are United, because you will be a huge star, and you will get paid very well, and more often then not you will win trophies, but dont try and hold us up for city or psg money...

that said i still think modric is coming, lewandowski would be great of course but knowing dortmund theyll sell him next year...they usually slowly sell off a big star for profit here and there, and replace him with a young player who does become a star, but they rarely have a huge fire sale in one year...they are much more methodical...

Agree0 Disagree0

You must be Sir alex himself if u know so much

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh what a surprise another transfer window and another link to Lassana Diarra. Give up the ghost and at least link us to someone new.

Devilmusic

Agree0 Disagree0

Lassana Diarra is going to Fulham mate. His agent confirmed as much...

James

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would Cleverley be going on loan to get match fitness? Surely all the squad will need match fitness when the new season comes round - hence pre-season matches. Not a chance. Anderson will be going nowhere either. He is a vital cog in the wheel and should he stay fit could be the difference between us winning the title and not.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd be very suprised if Everton excepted 15 mil for Baines.

Agree0 Disagree0

I've been on the Everton rumours site recently and all the fans seem to think that he's worth a lot more than 15 mill do I think the blues will hold out for the absolute maximum. I'd say that we're looking to have to pay 25 mill. I don't think he'll function as well in our team though :/

"The thought of making the step up to the Premier League next season is an exciting prospect. I can’t wait to get started"

(part of Powell's quote)

Is he just talking about joining a Premier League team or is there any chance he's been told he will go straight into the 1st team squad? As I had assumed he would be sent out on loan for a year, perhaps at Championship level. It's a hige step from L2 to PL after all

Gav

Believable11 Unbelievable2

Was wondering that myself! He must've been made promises!

Agree0 Disagree0

I heard that he will be part of first team squad and also expected to be a starter in 6 months injuries notwithstanding

I can't believe last bit but that's what I heard

Pardoe

Agree0 Disagree0

Pogba and Morrison were in the first team squad, they just very, very rarely played.

Really don't understand the huge Baines appeal?

He's a good player, over average, but is another hyped english player.

It's true he has a good set piece, however, he's getting on and at £15/20 million there are far better alternatives.

What do you all think? Ed? Sydney? Moon? Anyone else?

tbir. {Ed007's Note - Could we swap Welbeck for him......}

Believable11 Unbelievable19

Bond you not an admirer of Welbeck then? I am not sure about him myself, but am open minded

Pardoe {Ed007's Note - No Pardoe, me and others have been 'debating' about him since last night on another thread. It is on Banter @ 12 Jun 2012 00:20:15.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Completely agree don't see attraction. Moyes / everton would make us pay through the nose for him and he's just not worth that kind of money. In think evra is not the player he was 3 years ago but he is still a different level than baines

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree there are better left backs out there and cheaper like alaba of bayern class young player whoo can also play midfield saw him in champios league and he was very comfortable going forward and good defending you would get half for what your paying for overated baines

Agree0 Disagree0

Swap welbeck for baines eh id rather not...baines is ok but if he wasnt english we wouldnt know who he was....id rather wait a few months and not loan fabio out....or go for some1 else cause evertons asking price is scandalous....and i know fergies goin for homegrown players cause of the limitation rule...

Agree0 Disagree0

Bayern munichs alaba half the price of baines and afar better player

Agree0 Disagree0

Have you ever wondered why Baines asking price is so high? Maybe Everton don't want to sell him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Welbeck? Surely not ed? The kids maturing into a cracking forward! {Ed007's Note - I think Welbeck/Jelavic would be a great combination for Everton, if Utd got Baines as cover for Evra it would be a good deal.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol you're on the wind up tonight, Ed007...let's see if anyone bites ;)

Gav {Ed007's Note - Ed004 messaged me to say I had upset a few people ;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed I hope you are joking about the Welbeck thing. If your are then good one.

Dec

Agree0 Disagree0

There should be no debate. Welbeck is quality and will only get better.

Why do people have to rubbish a player as soon as they start to get a foothold?

Shame on Ed007 for making such a statement!
You guys have no patience.

Pritpal

Agree0 Disagree0

Think Deniss Irwin, consistency is the reason for Baines being linked and if his 1st name was klaus van and he played for some Dutch (we don't compete in champs league anymore)team then you would all be raving about him.
Fergie sign him & by Xmas all you doubters will be praising the master once again !

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes if u through rooney in as well pasquale/ed
toffeeman

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed what is it about Welbecks game that you dont like? Just curious as to why you dont think he could cut it. {Ed007's Note - I have never said he won't cut it, just at this point in time I don't think he is good enough for a regular first team starting spot for Utd. He needs to decide if he is going to be an out and out striker or lie more deep. With a top drawer striker instead of relying on Welbeck I have no doubt Utd would have won the league last season.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Our defending as a team cost us the league we had enough fire power Danny wellbeck is one of the latest young LOCAL kid to come through our academy who will go on and shove this impatient negative comments down the throats of all you Fantasy league managers.providing he makes a full recovery Will Keane will be your next target
Shame on you all go and support city & chelski who will meet your fantasy desires

Agree0 Disagree0

Guys all this talk of Baines is doing my fruit in lol !! It seems Modric is on his way so why not approach the Toffees for Jelovic because the way they both jelled against Republic of Ireland was fantastic.....Any thoughts ? Salford Viking

Agree0 Disagree0

Is Ed007 an Everton fan?
Must be to think swapping Welbeck for Baines is a good idea.
Terrible suggestion. :)

Bob {Ed002's Note - No, he is not an Everton fan.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Salfors Viking, approaching Everton for Jelavic would be a stupid idea, he's only been at goodison since January so there is no chanc everton would sell him unless we offered like 40m...

DevilDave

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed007 thinks if we had a better striker last season we could have won the league....its not the fact ed that we had a new keeper a jigsaw defense a week midfeild for the majority of the season that leaked 2 many goals....r u actually serious berbatov and the pea were there but fergie opted not to play them .....if ur gona blame any 1 id blame rooney the amount of chances he missed and 80% of the time hed hit a defender instead of the target....made up stat btw....that pots gettin cold mr bond i think it needs another stir...

Manchester united and arsenal are both looking at Frenchman Emmanuel rivière but it is expected a fee of around 18 million would have to be tabled

Believable3 Unbelievable14

Ryan tunicliffe is a better option for free
OzwaldII

He's a striker-cum-winger and there is no way 18m would be the fee. Toulouse were wililng to let go Sissoko + Capoue for less and they are their best players.

Hello guys. My original post so far has been accurate. Kagawa and Powell have now both been confirmed. I spoke to my friend about Luka Modric and he is adamant that the deal will happen. He said that the PSG rumours are just rumours he will be playing for Man Utd next season. I do have some new news. My source has told me that Leighton Baines is a target. Despite originally telling me he is not. Apparently there has been contact between Utd and Everton over the last couple of days. He is now telling me that he believes both Modric and Baines will sign before the window closes. He confirmed that there is no chance of Lewandowski signing. INTHEKNOWATOT

Believable27 Unbelievable14

Totally what am being told too.
i was told last week apart from kagawa and powell it would be 2 players from the below.7
baines
modric
mvilla.
but the top 2 where favourties.
been told that modric has agreed terms and just the fee to go. rumours going around redknapp may have resigned i doubt these (twitter story i think).

Baines is a real target, again stumbling block it price, but no terms have yet been agreed with player either.
jenny

Agree0 Disagree0

I really hope we don't sign Baines I think there is far better out there in my opinion!

Jamal

Agree0 Disagree0

I really hope that the 2 are m'vila and modric....

baines is ok but there are better lb's out there that we could get...

do not think there are better dm's & Cm's that we can get....

I could put up with evra for a year if fabs loan goes well and he comes back ready to go... he may even be ready in 6 months if loaned in the prem

Oxred

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't know how many players are coming and from what I've seen, no one on here does either. Like all you guys, I read all the papers, websites, blogs etc and get whispers from people with sporting links, usually low level journalists and bookies. To say "YOUR IN THE KNOW" meets little. Even if you were David Gill no one believes you anyway. Except kids and the intellectually challenged.
Mik - Not in the know, but full of opinion and hopes.

Agree0 Disagree0

There are better, younger and maybe cheaper left backs who could make the position their own for five years or more and still have a resale value imo.

Just heard redknapp may be resigning this could be great for us as bale, Modric and walker may want to leave, walker is a northern boy from sheffield and doesn't like London few of my mates know his family as I'm from Rotherham could let him go for around £18m id say he's worth it.

i wondering who will go if we land modric or any other midfielder? Anderson? Nani? park?

JLBER84

Believable9 Unbelievable2

I think all 3 will leave if we sign Modric.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Anderson isn't needed anymore so i kinda hope we sell him to add to our transfer funds, Nani will stay IMO he's just playing hardball to improve his contract. And Park will probably be given another season to help Kagawa fit in apart from anything else.

TRJC

Agree0 Disagree0

Every chance could be all 3!, would expect Park to go,and Anderson, well, think jury still out I think, has a lot of injury probs and maybe Fergie is getting bit wise to that. Think a lot depends on the people we can get in and probably more important how much it will cost to get them, think the books will have to be balanced somewhere along the line. Wouldn't be surprised to see all go if price is right.

Charla

Agree0 Disagree0

Hopefully anderson and Park. Nani only to leave if we strenghthen on the left and bring in a left footed winger

Agree0 Disagree0

Me personally I think Park and Anderson. Let's not forget Utd have already offered Nani £130k a week whilst declaring their interest in Modric. Should Utd agree a deal for Modric can't see them turning their back on a deal for Nani should he accept as well. Let's not forget Berba, Owen,Maceda are also off so if Ando and Park went as well that's a bit off the wage bill. Still Rumours going round about Fletcher's fitness as well

Langers

Agree0 Disagree0

Anderson his quiet good imo, but his injury prone and look like he doesn't have natural physical ability to go back in shape.

wish him well, if he can stay fit keep the boy, only 21 or 22....i believe he can improve.

JLBER84

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Nani will go. there are reports that Juve already have a deal agreed for around 45m euros. He's a good player but for that kind of money I would cash in and re invest in a player like Ribery. SAF has always been an admirer and I saw an article today linking him to united.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don;t believe United will sell Nani and I don't believe Juventus have offered 38 million quid for him. I love him and think he brings some magic into our somewhat utilitarian team. But to offer 38 million quid before the Euros end, that could see his value altered, would be terrible business by the Italians, especially if you take into account they didn't lose one league game last season.Nani is 800% more likely to be here next season than Modric
Mik

Agree0 Disagree0

It seems like it will be nani, anderson, and park, berbatov...i like nani, but get the feeling hes off to juventus..especially with juventus trying to give krasic away and telling eljero elia, who flopped bigtime there, that he can go find a club and leave on a cut price deal

Agree0 Disagree0

Biggest problem last season was a lack of numbers. So with Cleverley and Anderson injured and Fletcher ill - we ended up playing Giggs and Park in central midfield - where they did not prosper - So i do not see us bringing one in (maybe Modric) and getting rid of three - makes no sense.

Anyone know much about Joe Rothwell from the U17's?

DB-Red

Believable3 Unbelievable7

Centre midfielder. Good technical player with a good shot. One of the better players of the current academy crop. Missed a big chunk of last season injured but did return towards end of season. Will be part of what should be a strong academy team next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good player, but still a little young to know if he will make it. Next season is a big season for him.

Sydney!

Very highly thought of by the coaching staff and also the Boss , could have a big future provided he develops phissically and avoids any serious injuries,(as is the case with all young players).

Hi all i did comment last night to confirm powell deal amd say it would properly be announced today. To my surprise my contact was not wrong.
Anyway he said last night about modric agreeing terms with united but its now down to us to agree price. At present spurs need to lower there valuation for any deal to go ahead. Modric wants to come to us and prefers united over psg.
Jenny

Jenny, we are close to a Modric deal I can feel it in my bones.

Sydney!

Aw thanks MPez,
i hate putting rumours on, as there is so many false ones that fly about. Ones am getting told at the minute are all true.

There is a unconfirmed reports but could be tw*tter Redknapp has resigned? I dont think they are true but you never know.

Jenny {Ed007's Note - As far as I know Jenny, Redknapper has not resigned.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I didnt think they would be tbh, it was a twitter rumour ed.

Sydney i think your bones are correct, player wants the move so am being told. Exciting times this season in transfer market.
Jenny

Agree0 Disagree0

Spurs don't have to lower the valuation as he is on a four year deal if we don't want to pay that money move on to a different target, he's not worth the money spurs want

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope your source is right once again we'd be on for a great summer! Keep up the good work, Jenny

Gav

Agree0 Disagree0

No spurs dont want to lower price but unlike last season when modric was prepared to give them 12 months, this season he is not. Personally i think this could drag on, but hoping not
Jenny

Agree0 Disagree0

Well if we get modric i hope the other player from your list is m'vila and not baines....

Oxred

ps keep them coming...

Agree0 Disagree0

Jenny, does your source know of any concrete interest in a Defensive Midfielder? I don't really see what Modric would offer us tbh interms of goals and assists (Kagawa offers both of these, so would he just pass the ball to him?!), and would much rather us buy a solid box to box Midfielder to play alongside Carrick or Cleverly. Do you know if we're looking at Modric and another?! Thanks for any replies. The Southern Red

Agree0 Disagree0

At present i dont i was told last week it was def kagawa powell and 2 from
Modric
Baines
Mvilla
If i hear anymore i will let u all know.
Jenny

Agree0 Disagree0

Jebby, why would it be two out of these 3? they all fulfill a different function, they all play in different positions. Either we need a defensive and an attacking midfielders, or one or the other, plus a left back. You don't go down the shops and say shall I buy shoes, jeans and a month food, because you buy what you need, not what sounds impressive. Get real
Mik
Mik

Agree0 Disagree0

I dont need to get real as this is what am being told. As the club as a wage and transfer budget each season, this has a bearing on who we sign each year. Hence sniejder didnt arrive season.
Jenny

The PSG link to Modric I can't see him wanting to go play in the french league at all.As for the rumour of Utd bidding 22m,I don't believe fergie thinks he will get Modric for that fee esp with having to deal with Levy but it is a tactic he's tried before of putting a low bid in knowing it won't get excepted but the player then knows definate interest and they start kicking off with there about wanting the move and trying to force a deal.

Do you think Fergie will pay 30 million for Modric ?can Mufc get him ?Modric said he will decide his Future after euros and he is ready for Big test .

Believable15 Unbelievable14

Don't think he's worth 30 million and despite all his premiership experience I don't think he's the right player. If he's going to wait until after the Euros to decide that's good. His performance in the firs game for Croatia was not bad but it wasn't impressive. He plays to deep for an attacking midfielder.

Agree0 Disagree0

His performance against Ireland wasn't impressive no name?

If that is the case then he is not going to impress you, he absolutely ran the show anyone can see that. Some people on here have no clue (generally no names), he would fit United like a glove.

Do agree 30 mill up front would be too much, but who cares if we get the good player and we can afford to buy others too?

GDS

Agree0 Disagree0

30 million does not necessary have to be the fee. it doesnt matter how much psg bid, if modric dont want to go there, he wont go there.
he has agreed terms with united, and its now up to us to agree terms with spurs. it does not mean he will defo sign for us, but its a step in the right direction.
jenny

Agree0 Disagree0

Did add my name but guess I should have put it in the body of my post.

He's not what I look for in an attacking midfielder. Maybe Kagawa will be the creative spark to replace Scholes but in my opinion Modric doesn't control games while creating chances and scoring goals. Maybe it's the price 30 million for not much goals and assists just doesn't cut it for me.

KB

Agree0 Disagree0

I dont think PSG have bid, I think its spurs trying to up the price, this one could get dragged out, burgerbrains

Agree0 Disagree0

IF this deal IS in the pipeline, I think the fee would be relative to our need for the player, much like it was with Carrick.

If you really need the player (and we definitely need someone who uses the ball well), then you may as well pay the money and get the player.

Having said that, in the main he only ever seems to "recycle" possession on most occasions and even though that's something that would be useful to us, I don't think it's worth 30mil.

What we must remember though is that in terms of the league, the game is on.
That means all-out war and we don't want to run out of ammo.
I think we'll pay what it takes, within reason.

Pritpal

Agree0 Disagree0

KB,

He is not what anybody looks for in an attacking midfielder, mainly because he isn't one. He does what Scholes has done in the last few years not what Scholes did at his best as an attacking midfielder. We have Rooney and Kagawa in that role now anyway.

Modric does just recycle possession but so quickly and gets the other plays moving and in space. He could have the technique to be better than what we have at the moment imo.

GDS

GDS

Agree0 Disagree0

I believeModric can run the show extremely well. With Rooney Kagawa and Wellbeck running off him and Cleverly staying fit with Scholes playing 25 plus games we can finally compete in Europe again.

Reports suggesting psg to bid for modric. I don't think he is gona move to France because the french league isn't competitive and a player of his calibre would prefer a move to a more competitive league

'I'm very happy to stay at Fulham, especially because of the boss,' he told the Fulham Chronicle. 'I think it's very important to have the backing of the manager and he's a coach who gives me a lot of confidence - that's why I feel I owe it to the gaffer as well.
'I think every player needs that and I'm no different. I go to training every day and work with joy. It's a fantastic club and I'm not in a hurry to move anywhere.'

I really hope not.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not sure what he would add to our team. We don't really need squad players. Some of the reserve team can handle back up duties. Our first team strength seems to be waning and I can't think of anyone I would leave off the bench for Dembele.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nooooo. We need modric!

Agree0 Disagree0

I havent seen that anywhere else...and theyd surely better not pay 11m for someone who isnt nearly as good as a healthy cleverly, or a healthy fletcher, or carrick right now...as a matter of fact, dembele would hardly play at united

Just heard from a polish friend who actually translated what the polish coach said. Apparently he was saying Lewandoski (sorry for spelling) is good enough to play for man utd. Reporters quickly twisted this and made it sound like whatever you want to post in the last 3 days. Kagawa is in the bag yes, only rely on Man utd website, sky lie (claimed Hazard and Sneijder signed for us before) the papers don't bother jus rumours for you to buy the papers. Sir Alex is on holiday the will not be any signings until after the Euro. Ed was up I'm new on this lovely blog. My name is Bubba United (remember this name).

The man utd website has posted the story that PSG are set to outbid united for Modric. I have a sinking feeling it will happen now.

Sorry mate that's tosh ! I've seen the interview and he states he would go to eventually . Your polish mate called talksport ? As for remembering your name Kimberly jumbo ? Sorry it's gone . You went to the trouble of getting a polish friend to translate a foreign language but not
Bothered to check the spelling of his name ? DISN

I have it from a good source, that SAF is looking at Frank Ribery again, he has been after him for several years and now could be the right time to strike. SAF is looking at off loading players such as Nani, Anderson, Park, Marheda and Berbatov. and already released Kuczcak and Owen and Pogba go ing too. His other targets are Leighton Baines £15m, Strootman as the midfield enforcer. and Modric if they fail with another bid for Ribery.

Just keep an eye out for Huntelaar as I believe that SAF will also invest in another striker and he has been in hot form and utd could get him for around £15 to £20 million, Giroud would also be a good target. what do you think ED.

Believable3 Unbelievable29

Don't you think spending huge money on a 29 year old winger is unlikely?

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Not a chance! ribery is 29 and i would imagine would cost in the region of 25/30 mil fergie wont pay that, better option out there. find another source if i were you.

Agree0 Disagree0

All of our wingers are better than him anyhow

So impressed were PSG that they "are ready to offer £30 million" to Spurs, a whopping £8m more than United's initial bid. Alex Ferguson got short shrift from the Lilywhites when he suggested that they might be willing to part with Modric for £22m, but PSG's opening offer is more likely to find favour with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

Apparently PSG coach Carlo Ancelotti regards Modric as a vital piece of his jigsaw as the Parisian club prepare for next season's Champions League. Having been taken over by a Qatari consortium in 2010, PSG have pots of cash and it's believed they're prepared to go higher than £30m if necessary in their bid to land Modric.

Believable14 Unbelievable7

Yes but will Modric want to play in the French League...i doubt it!

Simmo

Agree0 Disagree0

It will depend on where Modric wants to go surely?

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Exactly my thoughts! No matter how much money they throw at Spurs, if Modric doesn't want to go to PSG then their Quatari owners make no difference. Realistically who do we think Modric would choose between United? or PSG? Uhm.. yeah.

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

Who cares, if he doesn't want to play for Utd I don't want him anyway, we need players like kagawa that chose us as much as we chose him
I'll take anyone who chooses us because he wants to play rather than some merc

PSG can offer massive wages, a team likely to include Alex, Thiago Silva, Pastore and Lavezzi. Would be naive and stupid to say he wouldnt be interested
