I'm extremely dissapointed by the lack of support for rooney it's ridiculous. He's our 3 highest goal scorer of all time he is 26 years old he is doing a good job in midfield if he gives the ball away it's what most people spot but what about the clearances he gets on the edge of our box they win games too. The guy has been excellent this season. No one can say I put him on a pedestal because he English, I'm Irish and think he is just behind rvp as our second best player. In january if we get a midfielder and Rooney goes back up top and scores no one will complain, he is going to replace paul scholes and that's a tough job as he is the greatest midfielder of his generation. Also Rooney may not be scoring as many this year but he has set up 6!

Caolán.

Believable97 Unbelievable5

Rooney gives the ball away far too much trying flicks and impossible passes. He never gets criticised by the pundits for it because he's 'Wayne Rooney'.He's been dreadful at times this season. That said he's still our best player and we're half the side without him.It stumps me how someone who can be world class can look so very ordinary a lot of the time.

Agree0 Disagree6

You're joking right?

Agree1 Disagree0

Small minded, un-educated comments. Rooney is an unbelieveably good player, he could play anywhere for us a do a job. He is incredibly good with the ball at his feet, he can pass, shoot, create, tackle, read the game. Brilliant player, doing a great job for us and allowing RVP to play the way he is.

The 'you're joking right?' post was not meant to the original poster, but to the first posted reply.

Agree1 Disagree0

I have to say i agree with the reply to this post. No arguments, Rooney is a great and talented player but he goes through periods when he looks like he can't even trap the ball properly. They have become more regular in recent seasons too. I'm talking one or two games out of 10 or 20 now. I also agree he tries to spray passes about a bit too much and loses possession but that's just being very critical.
I'd still rather have him in our team than play against him.

RedMonkey

Agree0 Disagree1

Rooney is our best player, yes RvP is having a sublime season again, his touches are class etc etc. But Rooney can do it all, for me he just is our most influential player. He has bad days and sometimes dips of form but everything that he has achieved and who he is inspires other players around him to be the best they can be. He's the only other player than can pin point the ball to someone's feet/chest over 50 yards consistently other than Scholes. He gets back and defends an awful lot unlike a lot of the attacking players we have. A true asset to the team currently and to our clubs history.

Rooney is without doubt a great player. That said he has had big problem with his first touch this season and that can't be ignored. However form is temporary class is not.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't believe that this is even being debated. Rooney is a superb player and without him we would have been a mediocre side over the last 4-5 seasons since we got rid of Ronaldo and Tevez.
People want to look at the other rubbishe still playing for United, players like Anderson, Nani and Macheda.
Even if Rooney is having a bad day on the pitch his he never hides and aleays give 100%.

Simmo

Agree2 Disagree0

Completely agree with this post. So many fickle fans we have really gets to me. Rooney gets sharper as the season goes on, the same happened last season. He will probably be our best player in a month or two when he gets a bit sharper his first touch will improve again.

Dan

Agree0 Disagree0

I have been slating Rooney for his poor performances for the past couple of seasons and I am by no means fickle. He has been playing off reputation rather than what he is delivering on the pitch, hot and cold far too often, the only consistent thing about Rooneys performances for club and country is his lack of consistency.

So what if he can pick a pass out occasionnaly over 50 yards, that must occur 2/3 times max in a game where it is necessary. Evans and Rio do it far more frequently than Rooney does, but because when Rooney, Gerrard or Lampard do it, commentators and blinded fans rave about this ability. Its the same as praising Nani for how many step overs he can do in 5 seconds, doesnt really matter as a simple lay off would be far more effective 99% of the time.

Furthermore stating that Rooney is the reason RVP is playing so well is also blinkered, what was the reason for last seasons exploits at Arsenal, Walcot, Ramsey or Gervinho, haha.

Rooney can be an asset and can be the best player on the park, but so can every Utd player, only somebody who is completely sold into the media build up of Rooney would say he has been anywhere near as good as expected he would be when in his late teens and early twenties - he has under delivered massively on expecations. He is a good player who occasionally does world class things, like a lot of pro footballers, he does have natural ability unlike most players but we rarely see it nowadays because it takes him so long to regain any match fitness/sharpness. He find it so difficult to be 100% fit that his game being all about doing things at pace means he is struggling constantly to make an impact against quality opposition.

Dan - In a month or two we will be half way through the season, is it right for us to be stating Rooney's class, when we are still hoping that around Xmas time he manages to get his first touch back? Suarez has a touch from day one, Messi, Ibrahimovic, Ronaldo, Falcao, Hazard, even Wilshere who has been out for God knows how long looks sharper and has a better touch than Rooney already. He just isn't as good as the media have tried to convice us he is, the great English hope is currently drifitng unfortunately.

I just thik he is majorly overrated, was awesome when younger now living off his reputation and doing the occasional great thing or playing particularrly well. World Class is being one of the best players on the pitch 8 out of 10 games you play, not 1 or 2 (and I am being generous).

Still love having him in our team, just not as good as most make out.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have to agree with some extent to both the post and the first reply o the post. rooney is a legend and we are lucky that he can play a number of roles, however, his first touch does let him down at times, which is highlighted when he is playing in a packed midfield. He isn't as accurate with his passing as Scholes but his range of passing is better than most players. He can play the long ball like Scholes does

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh for crying out loud, he has played almost every game for club and country since he signed for United - not to mention the intense pressure on his shoulders for the best part of 10 years...and you want to pick out a few poor first touches and inconsistent form? He is a human, not a machine! Being 'overrated' is another debate, but to question the on-pitch ability and influence of a Manchester United legend you must be having a giggle!

SD

Agree0 Disagree0

Legend?

Legend is Edwards, Harry Gregg, Sir Bobby, Law, Georgie Best, Robbo, Eric, Big Pete, Keane, Giggs & Scholes. They are definite club legends. I'd even put Ruud & Ronaldo ahead of Rooney on that list.

heard there was a manutd scout at fc porto yesterday to watch rodriguez, he scored in 2-1 win over academica.

Believable27 Unbelievable6

We have had a scout at Porto a few times this season I believe I think it is after the summer we had and reportedly had a bid rejected for him that we are watching very closely to see if he could actually be worth all the money mentioned which i think he is

Agree0 Disagree0

If we had Ł32m to buy hazzard/moura then in sure this lad is up there with those 2 so i do believe these rumours are true. We are getting exposed down our left hand side and a player like rodriguez would stop full backs bombing forward so often. Plus the fact he scores and creates goals unlike nani/young this year. {Ed002's Note -Manchester UNited made no offer to buy Hazard and offered less than Ł32M for Moura. The offer made in the summer for Rodriguez rejected but Manchester Unitied are aware of what he is valued at by Porto.}

Agree0 Disagree0

According to a red top we have watched him 7 times this season, who knows maybe its not made up

Pardoe

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he'll be a good buy at 20m but he's not 35-40m that his club rate him as, plus wingers are not the most pressing issue at the club at this moment. We need central midfielders, especially an enforcer aka Wanyama. We also need a Scholes replacement aka Eriksen. Carrick is our only really good midfielder -Scholes and Giggs are too old, Anderson has serious stamina and weight issues, Fletcher has an illness and though he gives 100% effort has never been top class and Cleverley is massively over-rated, a mid table level player at best. Of course Wayne Rooney can do a top job in midfield, but the idea of a Rooney/RVP partnership sounds and will be devastating. Kagawa is a top player, but is really someone who plays in the hole and not a general midfielder, he looks far weaker playing deeper.Wanyama for 15 -18m and Eriksen for 23 -25million would not only refresh our team, it would make them bloody great again . Once we get all of our defenders fit, we need a shield to protect it -enter big Vic Wanyama. if we don't buy him soon, City, Chelsea or a top team from a foreign league will. By the time he's 25 he'll be a 30-40m player. It's not wingers or center backs we need, but replacements for Keane and Scholes.

Why is ed002 saying that man utd never made an offer to buy hazard
when it was down to chelsea and man utd for hazard to choose for .
hazard's agent clearly stated that a bid has been made by all three parties(united, city, chelsea) and is hazard's decision to choose. he almost signed for united before his changed his mind after talking to abrahimovich and the fact that chelsea won the Champions league.
hazard himself stated that he had talked to both SAF and abrahimovich before making his final decision {Ed002's Note - You are a long way wide of the mark - Manchester United never made an offer to Lille for Hazard.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I hate to disagree with you ed002 but have look at this
I've always said I wanted to play in England. There was a struggle between Chelsea and United, but according to me Chelsea has the best project,ť Hazard said.
I was in advanced contact with both clubs and I spoke to both coaches. I want to be playing in the Champions League every year.
When they won the Champions League, I told myself: 'Why not Chelsea?' The team is young and I have a better chance to play there.
"At 21, Real Madrid or Barcelona would have been more difficult for me. If I play well enough at Chelsea, I could win my place in the starting team and my priority is to play.ť {Ed002's Note - Right - so where does it say that Manchester United made an offer to Lille for the player? I made the situation perfectly clear at the time.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed002 am I correct in thinking that the fee for Hazard was a secondary agreement and that the deal was only negotiated with said club once Hazard had made his decision?

TK-Red {Ed002's Note - Briefly, what happened was that Hazard's agent had spoken with both Manchester club, Chelsea and PSG. There were packages discussed and these were relayed to the player. Hazard was then given permission by Lille to talk himself with representatives of the various clubs. Chelsea had spoken with Lille already and had agreed in principle to pay the required fee (actually it was slightly lower) for the player but critically one person from Chelsea had to agree to the move before it could go ahead. He had significant reservations regarding the attitude of the player, his constant use of social media and his making statements to the press & other media. After speaking directly to the player and being given assurances that this would stop, he agreed to the move going ahead. It was then a case of completing the transfer (payment, registration etc.).}

Does anyone know if rvp pulling out of international duty is a precaution or is he actually injured?

James

Believable4 Unbelievable2

United website stated has a minor thigh injury - doubt it will keep him out of Norwich at the weekend.

Giants14

Agree2 Disagree0

More than likely a minor "injury". Probably a similar sort of "injury" that Rooney has. Much better to keep him fit for us than Holland.

TK-Red

I think these injuries may mirculously be over by the time the Norwitch game comes ;). Nice one SAF.

dont get why people have disagreed with my ramos coments he would be perfect for us.my case for ramos in 1. hes got bags of talent and pace 2.big game expirence with madrid 3.jose would sell to us 4.hes unsetled by back room isues with board members 5.a consistant part of the spain team that won euros and world cup. any player with those credentials is man utd quality some people may prefer subotic or hummels neither have ramos c.v and could both may flop next year ramos has been quality since getting in madrid squad over 5 years ago.

jwberry

Believable20 Unbelievable18

Ramos is not a quality centre back in my eyes.... He is a far better right back. If we had to take a central defender from La Liga I'd take Pepe I like his ruthlessness and I think he is ridiculously under rated. Hummels flop? Are you kidding he is the first choice Germany centre back and he has had 2 years of being utter class plus he is only 23. He is immense on the ball and can pass like a midfielder. There is plenty of centre backs out there who I think we should be looking at as I think Smalling has his place sealed so his partner could be Papadopolous, Hummels, Ogbonna, Subotic, Pepe, Benatia, and there is always players that come from nowhere that turn out class.... Imo we need a no nosense defender thats why I would take either Papadopolous, Pepe or Ogbonna.

Agree0 Disagree0

True but i can't see ferguson spending huge amounts for ramos unless we offload one of our defenders.

Agree0 Disagree0

He does have a bit of a hot head and gets sent off slot tho. Still he is a top class def with pace which is what we need

Agree0 Disagree0

Hes a class defender but would cost 20mill plus, can play right bk or cb, hot headed but does score alot of goals for a defender would love to see him at old trafford

Agree0 Disagree0

So what's gonna happen with Jones then? is he not going to be playing centre half?

Agree0 Disagree1

Hummels wlll be great. Jones will never be a good cb. Gets caught out far too often and is injured all the time.
NoMidfield

Agree0 Disagree0

Forget these guys and buy Varrane. He is going to be better than all of the above.

Shahram

Agree0 Disagree2

We really dont need a center back no matter how good he is ok the defence has been leaking goals no vidic no smalling no jones vidic is still a bit ahead of all the above and jones can become the best center half in world football ahead of the lot plus we have to very good young players comin through why waste money on a center half when we are crying out for at least two midfielders one to replace scholes and one to fill the dmc position i would like wanyama and wilshere much more than any new center back

Agree2 Disagree0

Because Ramos is overrated as a centre-back. If we spend big on a centre-back it should be Mats Hummels.

Agree3 Disagree0

I think Ramos will be playing for Chelsea next year.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ramos is a poser

When our main center -backs return, our main problem will be someone to act as a midfield shield and enforcer. Wanayma fits the bill to a tee. We need to shield the ball further up the field when possible. We are letting in goals because of an unsettled, ever changing back 4 and a weak defensive midfield. Carrick, who I rate and Scholes, who I love but is frankly past it, are not mobile enough to defend and still play attacking passes. In fact the once wonderful Paul Scholes never has been a strong defensive player. So Hummels, Subotic and the Bologna center back are excellent center backs, but we just don't need them. It's midfielders we need, we have never replaced Keane and Scholes and frankly Cleverley and Fletcher will never be world class, plus Anderson won't unless he gets his stamina and fitness together. I'd sell Young whose crap and buy wanyama and Eriksen. They would put us back to our best. On an interesting side note, the most maligned Nani has more assists to his name -48 in the EPL than Scholes 45, Beckham 44, Ronaldo 46 or RVP 46. Giggsy is the only player to have over 100 premier league assists he has 126,Wazza has 69 ( from http://www.statbunker.com/football/ktg/index.php?PL=ktgalltime&Code=EPL&statType=assist)
