Anybody have any news on Zeki Fryers, is he still a utd player and whats the beef with this dude we took off citeys hands last season? (cant think of his name)

RedKen.

Believable0 Unbelievable25

Are u talking about freddie veseli?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he is.......not sure where the 'beef' comes into it though?

J - Stand

Agree0 Disagree0

Fryers is no longer under contract at united so isn't a united player. Verselli played a few games on tour and looked a bit shaky but grew in confidence.

Agree0 Disagree0

Beef with Vasselli?

Meaning?

Agree0 Disagree0

Fryers is now a spurs player

Agree0 Disagree0

By beef i simply meant,is he likely to get a chance/getting a look in etc (havent really been keeping up to date with pre season!)

I've said many times on here that you should not get too excited by a player which you have only seen on that wonder of modern technology 'youtube'. However, let me get a little giddy, infact let me get very giddy having just watched about every youtube of Henriquez available.... £4m! when you consider that PSG have allegedly paid £35m for Moura, who is so good he didn't even get picked for the Olympic team I think we might have a bit of a good striker here. He looks fast, two footed, aware and brave. The only down side is that my season ticket hasn't turned up yet!

One thing i don't get is all this anti Neil Taylor stuff when his name is mentioned. People saying he isn't good enough and stuff like that. He was one of the best left backs in the league, he has one of the best passing completition rates of any defender in the league. Surely if we are aiming to play more possession based football a player who can keep the ball and pass it accurately is vital. He is also versitle in that he can cover RB too.

He isn't my first choice but he is a good option and a good player.

Shappy

Believable25 Unbelievable4

Shappy not takeing the mick or anything but i prefer when you post your long, well thought out and constructive posts

muffinMan ;) {Ed004's Note - Don't encourage him MuffinMan, your not forced to read them...*sigh*..... Just kidding Shappy}

Agree1 Disagree0

Lol, sometimes i'm just too busy and other times I just can't be bothered. But rest assured there will be more long winded post soon enough.

Shappy {Ed007's Note - Shappy just be grateful you don't need to listen to Ed004 droning on about formations and where every player in the known universe would fit into a Utd team no matter what formation or tactics they used. Get to bed anyway 004, you are grounded for drinking at the weekend. (Mints don't hide the smell kid!!!).}

Agree0 Disagree0

Seen him at the liberty a lot over the 2 seasons( only an hour away from me) and he's their stand out player above Allen or Sinclair , he's a good defender, comfortable on the ball , good passer and crosser , I'd be very happy to sign him

Dustbin

Agree1 Disagree0

I dont rate him, not Utd class anyway. He looks far too light weight and hesitant for me. The only reason that pass completion rate is so high is down to the amount of short passes that Rogers instructed them to perform, bet Enrique has better figures this season and Taylor's go down. Just the style of play has flattered the stats.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2012 20:22:24
Good news if Utd have signed Henriques with RVP to follow by the weekend. Presumably Henriques will play in the reserves and RVP will form a great strike partnership with Rooney. However, they will only score if they get good service from midfield. Cleverly needs a good season, Fletcher may be a bonus and hopefully Anderson will stay fit and develop. Lots of ifs and buts and I hope we are not relying on spasmodic contributions from Giggs and Scholes. We need to buy a top class, creative midfielder otherwise the best European teams will find us out. Whether we need a defensive midfielder as well is a matter for debate but we must have a genuine creative force.

Believable15 Unbelievable10

Is Kagawa not a creative force?

Anderson scored a blinder tonight against Aberdeen, he's looked good pre season so hopefully he can add some game to our midfield.

I think with Anderson, Cleverley, Carrick, Scholes and Kagawa we'll have enough creativity centrally.

RedMist

Agree2 Disagree1

I think Henriquez is going back on loan to Universidad de Chile for the season.

Tommy

Agree0 Disagree0

You've forgotten about Kagawa. I think he will be immense for us this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Where have you been since the end of the season?
We signed Kagawa, very creative and looks so good.
We are yearning for a midfielder to dominate the centre. Not creativity

Jonny8

Agree0 Disagree0

Obviously u havent watched any pre season game have you?? Kagawa looks to be that missing piece of da puzzle. Just because he cost 12m doesnt mean he isnt top class. Some of his play is so exciting to watch, roo will get umpteen goals from him. Heres to dreaming about roo and rvp infront of him!!

GALWAY RED

Agree1 Disagree0

Creative force? Kagawa ring any bells
Onecut

Agree0 Disagree0

Kagawa looks like a good creative midfielder to me! 13 million he's going to be class! we do need a replacement for scholes and giggs but theres no rush they still have a season left in them! Nani scholes valencia Kagawa if they can give Rooney and hopefully van persie if we sign him the right service we will get our trophy back!!!

Agree1 Disagree0

We need a strong defensive midfielder Martinez moutinho or witzel. Saf get your finger out before its too late.

Agree0 Disagree0

What a great thread. If RVP joins and pairs with Rooney or Chicharito or Welbeck we'll be awesome, and SAF can have great permutations to stop other clubs countering our strategies.
Any of these could work easily with Kagawa (Kaga Wa) and Valencia to create outstanding service...and we ain't seen Henriques in that mix yet.

Mate from SEG informed it's a done deal just a few things to iron out with the fee but he is sure the deal will go ahead for RVP. Movement from both sides has secured the deal not giving a time frame but is certain it's done.

If any if the eds are about I was wondering what your thoughts on nani were. Do you think there is a posibilty he will leave this summer and if so will a replacement be bought?

Thanks

Hey syd or eds,

Do you think it's possible that Tyler Blackett might be our 2nd choice left back this season as understudy to Evra? I'm guessing Baines was 1st choice and now Everton don't need to sell him and were left without Fabio it would seem silly to sign a young left back blocking both fabio and Blackett in future.

Welsh Red

Believable16 Unbelievable6

I believe we will sign a LB this month. I do not see Brady or Blackett as Evra's back-up. Blackett isn't ready and Brady is really a left-winger. The manager has said he will buy, I think he would be stupid not to. Don't forget this is almost certainly Ev's last season.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree1

It's possible but unlikely. He's a great prospect but is very raw atm. He's at least a year away in fairness to him. But we have other players who can cover, Brady, Evans and even Rafael can play at LB if needed. One thing is certain Sir Alex will only sign a player he feels is right for the team, he won't just sign someone to make up the numbers.

Shappy

Agree0 Disagree1

Potentially a good player but not good enough yet to throw in at the deep end in the prem

Good to see Yorke in the squad. Adnan Januzaj too. Nice to see Fletcher in there, but you can see he is months away from a return, if he does ever return that is. Love the bloke but he is looking desperately thin for a EPL player.

Look out for Adnan, terrific player and just 17.

Sydney!

Believable13 Unbelievable2

Must say syd he's been good but the performance of bebe is disgraceful I can't believe how some people can define him!

Caolán.

Agree1 Disagree0

Adnan is big promise. Can't wait for him to start flourishing and there Daehli and Pereira. They are Rough Diamond ready to shine!!

Red Samurai

Agree1 Disagree0

Januzaj looks excellent from what I've seen of him. Yorke's still got a decent touch.
Dingle

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed, Great to see Fletch back in the United shirt, Obviously he's never been a powerhouse but he doesn't look half the man he used to be, Good Luck to him though, Hope he gets back to his fit & healthy self.

Agree1 Disagree0

Bebe is disgraceful?

He actually put some great crosses in in the second half. He put some not so great ones too, but "disgraceful" is a bit much.

Zanuzaj has shown much promise for a while now, i do hope he can keep progressing, very exciting player.

RedMist

Agree1 Disagree0

Cant wait to see Januzaj come along in leaps and bounds this season. He is a future star and will be 10x the player Pogba and Morrison could hope to be. Add Daehli in the mix and we are looking fantastic for the future

Agree1 Disagree0

Don't suppose you seen his runs or shooting not good enough standard for united he was outplayed against crawley and did nothing against Aberdeen.

anyone recommend any good football related books? Not necessarily United ones, general would do.

Believable6 Unbelievable14

Sir alex is on the pitch today.

Agree0 Disagree0

I find auto-biography's are a good read. Gary Neville - Red is a good one.

Agree1 Disagree1

Football manager ruined my life is a good fun read. Other than that, Paul Scholes autobiography is an interesting read.

TK-Red

Agree0 Disagree1

Yes, Manchesters Finest by David Hall, it is a book about the Munich disaster and the effect it had on the club, the supporters and football in general, in my opinion it is a must read for all United supporters, some of the individual stories in the book had me close to tears and once again made me realize what a fantastic set of lads we lost in 1958! Cheetham Red.

Agree1 Disagree0

Not sure why 2 people clicked unbelievable seems a reasonable. I'll throw a couple out there for you.

Inverting the Pyramid by Jonathan Wilson is a must read.

The Captains Club by Simon Wadsworth is about recent United captains like Robbo, Keane & Bruce, very good read.

There's the usual autobiographies i guess, but i'd definitely say have a bash with those 2.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pretty obvious but Gazza's autobiography is a good read

Agree0 Disagree0

'Jellyman's Thrown A Wobbly' was a very enjoyable book - Jeff Stelling's take on his time on Gilette Soccer Saturday.

I also quite enjoyed Paul Merson's autobiography 'How not to be a Professional Footballer'.

Rudderpost

Agree0 Disagree0

The Paul McGrath book is v good - honest, interesting and a good behind the scene look at many players and clubs especially United. It's more about the interesting life of a guy who just happenend to be a class footballer.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bobby Robson's
'Farewell but not goodbye' is a cracking read. His love for the game shines through it all

Agree0 Disagree0

Roy Cavanagh OBE -a salford lad- has written a number of books about the babes - check out Amazon

Agree0 Disagree0

Paul McGrath's book is excellent. Gary Neville's is good. Keane - superb!

Gazza's, Maradona's, Greavsie's. All good Autobiographies.

Matt

Agree0 Disagree0

Fever pitch, Paul McGrath , tony Adams ,triggs ,

Agree0 Disagree1

Try the Cantona book by Philp Auclair - excellent read

MJS

Calcio gives a great history of italian football really good read {Ed007's Note - How To Make Funds and Influence People.}

Brian cloughs auto or any cloughy read one heard good things about others some really funny stories in there

Agree0 Disagree0

Pierre luigi colline (forgive me for the spelling) great read, seemed to have a soft spot for united if i remember rightly

Agree0 Disagree0

'No Value In The Market' by J*ck McMoan

Agree0 Disagree0

Have a look at 'why England lose' by kuper and syzmanski, couldn't put it down, must read bit about van der sar and Chelsea's game theory in the 08 final, all the sweeter in hindsight haha, also pretty good is 'twenty years with Brian Clough' by Duncan Hamilton, filled with one liners.

If the Henriques deal comes off, which I am really hoping it does, i'll be over the moon, not seen much of him, but he is an out and out striker, and a prolific goal scorer, something we lack, he reminds me of Ruud Van Nistelrooy.

Jake F

Believable16 Unbelievable1

He isn't really an out and out striker... He can play out wide and also in the number 10 role similar to Rooney. Obviously striker is his better position but he is another very versatile talent

RedKnight

Agree0 Disagree0

He is also ambi footed which is an excellent attribute for a forward!

Associate of mine has advised me arsene has been told he must sell rvp. No ifs or buts and fast as we all guessed wenger is playing the game as he does not want to let go. Been informed also probable medical Thursday . I know some of this is More or less what some people have said but my source told me Saturday that we were having a medical today for henriquez and I doubted them so never bothered posting it. So on that basis I'm hanging my balls on the line here

RVP medical Thursday afternoon . Done deal . End of business for us this summer !

No baked baines , no other lb or cm !
SHANDY !

Believable9 Unbelievable19

Haha I very much doubt this is true- the board rarely interfer with wenger and would certainly not be telling him who to sell or buy...this smells like bs big time.

Strange how the papers today are confirming the board are concerned about the effect on the club backing up the requirement to offload ASAP . Why is everyone comparing Henriquez to Hernandez ? I have seen both play granted I have not seen Henriquez as much but they are nothing alike ! Henriquez can play behind the striker, out wide and up top. He is ridiculously quick and nimble kind of reminds me of Alexis Sanchez in style but he is taller. I am actually really ecstatic about this signing I have been waiting a while I rate him extremely highly and think he could actually make a few appearances if we off load Macheda and Berbatov which I do not doubt will happen. MY quesrion though how do we keep Rooney, Welbeck, Hernandezand perhaps RVP happy when we will be playing one up top or maybe Rooney behind the striker maybe we will see some surprise transfers out ??

George

Believable16 Unbelievable4

Henriquez could well play alot then, ive seen hima little and looks like he could have an affect on our goalscoring side . very accurate

what do you think george

Big V

Agree0 Disagree0

If Henriquez gets a work permit and believe me it's a big if, he will play for the United U21's next season. If he doesn't get a work permit he will likely go to FC Twente on loan with Gladstony. If he gets a work permit he will likely get called up for League Cup games too.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Either way Henriquez will probably be played ahead of hernandez as he has more to offer than standing on the last man 24/7

Agree0 Disagree3

Aren't they trying for a more interchangeable play? where strict positional definitions become less important - What do I know?

Agree0 Disagree0

I really think united fans think RVP is a bad target for us but really hernandez seems to me like a one season wonder(may be too sarly to tell dont know yet) and danny welbeck needs a season or two as a squad player just to get used to the prem because he is very clumsy and needs to get a bit stronger. RvP is too good a player to pass up.

Aaronaldo7

Agree0 Disagree0

Your not alone george as I rate him too and the added bonus is he has wanted to join united for a while. I am not sure if we will get a work permit yet so this may have a bearing on if he goes on loan (we would have to look at exceptional talent as the means of acquiring the necessary permit according to my friend who works at the home office). Bookedredmole

Agree0 Disagree0

If he gets a work permit and RVP doesnt sign and Berba and Macheda leave then I can see him being used as cover for the forwards and wingers but I think we may see RVP here so he would probably be given a loan to Hull or maybe a better team but knowing Fergie and what he did with Hernandez I have a feeling we may see more of this kid than expected as I honestly think he is very special and his versatility to cover 3 positions can only help his case. Simply put I think we may have ourselves an absolute steal.

George

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd, you said if henriquez gets a work permit he will play for the u21's for a season

the only way he will come over is on a special talent permit as he hasn't any international caps

point im trying to make is dont united have to convince the relevant body that he will benefit the epl. hence he would have to play first team football

ed/syd you are welcome to correct me if im wrong

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2012 17:04:33
Im not really happy with 20m+ been spent on RVP, Add 10m a season wages on top of that aswell. Fair enough, He was great last season, If we sign him i just hope his injuries dont come back. Obviously if he does sign then ill back him.

Just wondering though, do any of you think it could turn into another Drogba/Torres situation where him and Rooney cant play together?

Dylan

Believable14 Unbelievable12

Why so negative.....take a positive pill or get some sun mate!

No ones a mind reader....so what if Rooney and RVP can't play together. As for pleasing all the strikers.....they'll have to get use to it. Manchester United rotate the squad more than anyone else and that's the way it will be next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

What age was David villa signed at for barca and what price? Look what he has done for them in one season?

We also signed cole and York at similar age to van Persie and they were far from flops

Agree0 Disagree0

Its not your cheque book, so CHILL

Carryonvending

Agree1 Disagree0

No rooney and RvP i think will play great together! if we get RvP we will win the title!

Aaronaldo7

Agree0 Disagree0

I think they would compliment each other well. Both are great at setting up play and both are good finishers; though I'd say RVP is the better out and out striker so I'd see him as the spearhead with Rooney playing off him. IMO it would be a lethal combo, so long as RVP stayed fit that is!

The massive bonus we'd have is if either gets injured or loses form we'd be left with another 25+ goal striker and many tasty options to combine him with e.g. Kagawa, Wellbeck, Hernandez

Gav

Agree0 Disagree0

Yorkie was 26 and cole was 23 when they signed for United so not sure what that's all about - hardley 29 teritory.

I happen to agree with this post. He's has had a multitude of injuries over the years - google it ! He'll be out for a while for sure so the others are bound to get game time. I can only think Fergie must be having a last throw of the dice and going for broke with this and outscore everyone. Also he has to deal with Wenger with this. Obviously it's United's cheque book but also it's potentially another hargreaves type signing.

Agree0 Disagree0

How can you compare to Torres, he was rubbish at Liverpool and then at Chelsea

Agree0 Disagree0

It's not your money so calm down! P.S The Cole & Yorke comparison doesn't quite work as Cole was 24 when we signed him & Dwight was about 27...

Really bored of all this RVP stuff would much rather prefer Lewondowski or Cavani....Any chance of Cavani ED02? {Ed002's Note - No.}

Believable12 Unbelievable9

Can't see Cavani leaving Napoli anyway very unlikely that he will leave

Agree0 Disagree0

Are chelsea interested in Cavani ed? {Ed002's Note - Yes, there have been talks.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Van Persie is a better player than Cavani, and a much better player than Lewandowski is or is likely to be.

DarkLard08

Agree0 Disagree0

Probably have to spend our whole entire summer budget to buy him out. Highly unlikely.

Agree0 Disagree0

Van persie is a 29 injury prone player who has had 1 good season dont want him i would like lewandowski or carrol as he is available i know you are all gunna say carrol is shocking but since he cut down on booze and got back into shape hes playing well plus him and welbeck play well together

rvp to be a utd player by Thursday. This is from David Johnson on twitter .

According to him he has been told by a utd player which would make sense as he does know quite a few of them.and he has called the last few transfers right

Will wait and see but i personally believe this

Ralph

Believable10 Unbelievable12

Rio said a few days ago that players are completely in the dark over who the club is signing or when they are signing. Hope it is true but doubt his source is a Utd player

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with the source...but RVP is back in England Thursday and I think things will need wrapping up before the season starts.
I can see it being Thursday, unveilved Friday with Henriquez with a small press conference and intentions for the season.

I would think that myself but he has called the last few transfers and he knows alot about contract negtiations so i am 90 % belevieing him.

Further to my previous post - it's not RVP in at the Bridgewater, I believe it is Angelo Henriquez. Looks like jred is right. i'm happy with this one, looks like a very talented player.
Mr Q

Believable13 Unbelievable3

Do we need another young striker tho don't we already have like 5 welbeck hernandez mecheda keane and king seems a waste money when we have some home grown talented strikers coming through {Ed004's Note - Macheda and King imo will not make it here. Keane picked up a very serious injury so we need to see how he returns from the injury}

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree With Ed on this one, Macheda has flashes of brilliance but overall is not OT quality. King has potential but unless he gets a massive boost in quality form somewhere i doubt he will make it either.

Agree0 Disagree0

Still how is henriquez expected to make it then with the likes of rooney rvp if he signs hernandez and welbeck ahead of him sit get paid and wait his turn I suppose {Ed004's Note - He is 18...I doubt he would expect to be thrown into the deep end in one of the best leagues in the world}

Once again, it's miserable old GEG here. I posted a couple of weeks ago to say that RVP and Moura would not be coming and that is still the case. Moura is off PSG and if I had to guess about RVP, he'll stay at Arsenal or go to Barcelona.

I'm as desperate for some big signings as everyone else, but think we should be realistic. I wouldn't be surprised to see Gaitan announced at some point, but I'm worried that may be all (if anything)

eds,why eriksen is not recently linked to any club.I would love to see him at united.
Also there are few player profiles of english players . {Ed002's Note - Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and AC Milan have shown some level of interest in Eriksen in the past few months. He has already rejected both Manchester City and Chelsea but AC Milan remain the most interested club. The Milan Press Office are convinced of interest from Manchester United and they have let it be known that they expect a bid to be made by for Eriksen who remains adament that he will stay in Amsterdam for two more years before moving to Spain. Expect AC Milan and Roma to press if a bid is made by Manchester United.}

RVP to be completed before the weekend as I thought. Looks like that wedding present is on its way. Syd, looks like it is going to be in the excess of £20 million though which at least signals intent. One more signing to come in now, I have to say I don't expect this to be Lewandowski now.

Like I'm sure most of you have, I've just read in the Guardian that Llorente won't renew his contract at Bilbao and Juventus are making moves to sign him.

I admitt, I've only seen him play on TV a couple of times but last season he scored 17 goals in 32 league games and 7 goals in 15 European games.

This tells me he can play 47 games a season and scores on average every other game.

Also, given his age (27) and physique, I reckon all in all he's perfect for Man Utd and the premier league.

Anyone else agree? I think he'd be a better bet than RvP and would give Utd something different unfront to compliement what we already have.

Andrew B

Believable24 Unbelievable7

Whats the point if getting rid of berba then? its not like his much faster than berba.

Millz

Agree0 Disagree0

I never understood why SAF didn't play Berba more often with Rooney.

Agree1 Disagree0

The worry with foreigners is whether they will be able to settle into the EPL.

Van Persie is proven, not only did he score but had quite a few assists. Van Persie being in the team would allow Rooney to play a bit deeper and then we could put Kagawa in midfield, gives us numerous options. Allows Rooney to be rested yet have a quality replacement. When Van Persie isn't playing Rooney cna play up front with Kagawa behind

Agree0 Disagree0

No one who knows about football has a clue why Berbatov dosn't play along side Rooney .It is a fact 10/11 season he would have walked top PL goalscorer had Fergie not ditched him.It is also true that Berbatov's goals per game at Utd was second only to Rooney season 11/12.You don't become a bad player overnight when you have the best technical skills at OT.Berbatov is not good at tracking back but then De Gea is not a goalscorer leave Berba to do the job he does best .

Ed002 I saw you say Oscar de Marcos of Bilbao isn't available but I know people who are massive Bilbao fans and they have informed me that Bilbao don't want him to leave but he has got a 25 million euro but out clause so we could sign him if there is a strong interest and I herd that we have been interested and watched him a few times sine the Europa leauge games.

Caolán. {Ed002's Note - I would not read too much in to buy out clauses. It still sounds like an old story being recycled.}

Believable2 Unbelievable7

ED002 Are the buyout clauses more for between Spanish clubs? If an English club came in for a player they have to pay extra tax on top of a buyout clause?

Am i anyway right in saying that?

MrGoodCat {Ed002's Note - Typically they are only enforceable by a third party under local law. What they can do is provide an agreement between the club and the player as to what price he could be sold for - but a third party cannot force matters (e.g. Porto use this approach with Hulk). Often the prices are unrealistic so a player could be sold for less. It is often best to ignore them.}

Everyone keeps talking about the midfield. How bout Steven Defour. Sir Alex is a known admirer, so what has he been like since he moved to porto. Would he be worth a bid.

Believable4 Unbelievable32

Dustbin

Agree0 Disagree0

Not good enough for me . We need to buy better than we have at present .

Agree1 Disagree0

I wish people would stop recycling the "Sir Alex is a known admirer" of Defour thing. A lot of this was manipulation on the part of Defour's agent.

When Defour broke his ankle, his agent asked Fergie to write him a "get well soon" letter to cheer him up. Fergie did. Defour's agent immediately started waving it around as evidence that United were interested in signing him. Fergie went mad. The sage probably cooled any interested United might have had in him.

Anyway, anon is right - he isn't good enough.
