Moyes allegedly at the Napoli versus Atalanta game tonight. Heard yesterday that we may turn our attention to Marek Hamsik and unsurprisingly he came off the bench in the second half (Like Matuidi yesterday - at 1-1 with the game ending 3-1).

Jim Lawlor was at the Sporting V Estoril and Porto V Benfica games at the weekend and PNev was at the Vallecano game at the Weekend and the Athletico V Valencia game yesterday (supposedly).

Certainly surprised at how public we're being with our scouting at the moment!

Believable2 Unbelievable1

I think they should all start wearing wigs and false moustaches, so no-one knows they're there.

How did they do all this unknown scouting before Moyes came in?

Agree0 Disagree0

Pretty shore SAF used to go to games to watch players its common and justified

Agree1 Disagree0

Wouldn't you think this stuff would have been done in Nov/Dec?, as soon as 1st of Jan comes, here are our signings.
The guys we just missied out on in Sept, shouldn't those deals been ready to go?

Another rush & mess with no results, that's what we have yo look forward too.

Agree1 Disagree1

KateF - I do not recall SAF ever going to 3 games in the space of 4 days.

StevieK - My point was that sending our scouts would have drawn a lot less attention and served just as well (assuming our scouts have been informed of exactly what Moyes is looking for).

Drewey10 - I too am wondering why this is happening now rather than last or next month (depending on when these supposed targets are being targeted for).

Agree0 Disagree0

They have scouts who write reports and they go over them and the ones they think are good the staff will go and watch. they want to seem them play live because its hard to gauge from a report and then once viewed you then decide who you like most so its not a rush just usual process and as the squad needs a big overhaul they will probably have a lot more players to go and see than usual

Agree0 Disagree0

I think its all a ploy to appease fans. I wish I couldn't out of this way of thinking, but last summer showed how we now work in the transfer market. Looks like we are interested in all these players but in reality what happens. nothing! Same old Same old as the saying goes.

Agree1 Disagree0

Big fan of Hamsik apart from his haircut. If I was manager I would make him and Fellaini both get a sensible haircut.

Hey guys,

So I have not posted for a while but if you remember I was the one who was adamant from back in March 2013 that Bale was our number one target last summer. Now as a lot of developments have happened since SAF retirement I thought to share my two cents on our transfer policy.

Before Moyes' take over on July first, the club had (under Gill) agreed deals for Matic and Garay with Benfica while Bale and his entourage had appeared interested in a switch to United. All of this was negotiated basically under the reign of Ferguson who was also resigned to losing Rooney. Yet, as it is our policy to have the manager have the last word on all transfers the club essentially held off on Matic and Garay deals. Interestingly, Moyes did not sanction the deals with Benfica as he had his own targets in mind. Bale, on the other hand, remained our number one target and we did everything possible (even agreeing to pay the player and the club more than Real) but were unable to sign him as Bale apparently was hoping to work under Ferguson and with SAF gone he had essentially already made up his mind and chosen Real. We all know the abysmal state of affairs as Woodward and Moyes scrambled to put some signings together.

As far as this window and the next is concerned things are very different. We actually have a strategy as Moyes has been in the hot-seat long enough to develop a transfer policy with back-up plans, a list of first-choice, second choice, etc. targets.

As it should be no surprise, a lot of ground work must be done prior to the official transfer season to wrap up deals. We are essentially doing a lot of work now for the summer where the club hope to do at least a majority of their signings before the world cup. Now to our targets.

Moyes has identified that our squad is need of at least one CB, one LB, two CMs, and a Winger.

As for defense our main target is Mangala who Moyes loves and whose agent Mendes has an ongoing relationship with us. ofcourse this is one for the summer. also, he is quite expensive at around 35-40 mil euros and city are also very keen but money is not an issue for us this time around. the important thing is getting the player to want to come here. Rio's contract will certainly not be renewed and he is touted as his replacement. Moyes hopes to hold on to Vidic for one more season given his experience. He also rates Jones and Smalling very highly. If he does pull this one off we would most likely be looking at mangela jones partnership next season. (personally I have reservations on this one) our other defensive target if this doesn't pan out is Mats Hummels whom I prefer although that is also by no means easy for Barca seem very interested.

as far as lb, everyone knows that we have proposed a loan with option to buy to Real for Coentrao and the player himself is very interested but Real are playing hardball. if this deal is to go through it has to happen in January. we spoke with Southampton about shaw but they made clear that they would not even listen to offers until the summer. Baines is not a target anymore. If we don't get Coentrao in now then our first choice lb for the summer would be Shaw for whom we have to go head to head with chelsea. Moyes wants to hold on to Evra and let go of buttner but it seems that Evra is dead certain on ending his career in France. this is why signing an lb has been an urgent issue for us not as some fans think because Evra is passed his prime or because Moyes doesn't rate him.

As for the winger, Moyes' number one choice is Reus who the club actually think they have a good shot at in the summer. We are willing to pay his release clause which kicks in then. I'm sure there are back-ups to Reus but they haven't been seriously discussed yet which suggests the high level of interest we have in Reus. Young is certain to leave in this area and probably also Nani. the problem with Nani is we want to recoup some serious cash for him at least 18 million. With the world cup coming up, Nani is being given a chance to recover his game back at Sporting. He is expendable but not at any cost. Moyes hopes to include him in his offers for his earmarked CMs.

Finally to our most pressing area of concern, the midfield.

Most of the midfield targets we have are ones for the summer. Chief among them is Gundogan who we have liked for quite some time from back in summer of 2012. Although, Dortmund have not lost hope He seems set to leave Dortmund in the summer, with his destination entire unclear at the moment. Here we are competing with Real Madrid. He wants champions League football and our current state is not attractive to him yet he also has reservations about the midfield traffic at Real. On the other hand if he is signed Real will be looking to offload Khedira who is in our list although not high on our list by any means.

The other primary target we have is Vidal. Moyes has held talks with Juve who have agreed to listen to our offer in the Summer. We also prefer to include Nani in this deal in the summer to bring the price down and for some reason Juve seem to be interested in Nani although they rate him closer to the 10 million than 20 that is our valuation. Again suffice it to say it is not at all certain how everything will turn out here. so another first choice target is Koke of Atl. Madrid. He is another target for the summer. and the player seems to be interested in a move in the summer so he might be our most likely of the three at around 30 million. So Ideally our midfield next year can boast Vidal-Koke, Koke-Gundogan, or Gundogan-Vidal partnership.
Further down the list, We are also trying to sound out Pogba although I don't see this as happening given our history with his agent. If vidal and Gundogan don't pan out, the next name down the list is William Carvalho of Sporting who is a yaya toure type player. He is not a first choice at the moment but if we fail in our other targets he is a good fall back option. We have a better chance than others to get him given our relationship with Sporting. Moreover, if we loan Nani to Sporting we will insist on a first buy option for Carvalho.
This is the reason Moyes is very hesitant to fill out a spot right now but with Anderson gone to Fiorentina, we might if we can replace him with someone this month. The names for January are not very extensive as the player cannot be cup-tied. the most likely candidate is Ever Banega of Valencia. the player himself is keen on a switch but Valencia are having a transition of their own with a likely takeover and so its hard to agree a deal. Rakitic name was also in the frame but this is looking more and more unlikely by the day. We have not bid for Everton Ribeira. We are also not in for Marchisio or Veratti. I have not heard anything about an interest in Matuidi. There is some indication that we have agreed to Anderson deal with someone already in the bag. I find it unlikely that deal will be allowed to go through with no immediate replacement. so as soon as that is confirmed, we can hopefully expect to see some activity.

All in all, while I do hope that we get someone like Banega in this window for that is certainly an improvement on what we have, I am confident our transfers in the summer will have fans excited again.

Hope this is helpful,
Art

An interesting read Art, I do hope we can get some of the targets mentioned

Agree1 Disagree0

Art, that is very well written and a good read. However, there are two possibilities : a) this is little more than a combined summary of widely reported media stories dressed up as fact, or b) you are David Moyes.
I really hope is the later

Agree0 Disagree0

Even if that is all bs it has got me feeling a little more optimistic.

Agree1 Disagree0

A good post from someone who knows what he is talking about even if its guess work I think there is a lot of truth to most if not all.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nice post, how have you got this information? Is it your opinion?

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with sweaty b! This is little more than all the rumours on here, made into one post!

Agree0 Disagree1

If we wanted to offload nani why would he get a 5 year contract?

Agree0 Disagree0

Well that's what we want to hear, I just hope you're right.

Agree0 Disagree0

Andy, to increase his re-sale value.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nani is not worth more than £10m!

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope so betty swollocks, so frustrating all these transfer rumors, fergie would of added 2 to 3 players if he stayed on, even worse watching city go for every trophy possible

Hey Ed,

Can you just let us know of any potential signings United is going to make this window? Because with all the big name players we are after I don't think we'd be able to make at this time of the year and bearing in mind the worldcup in summer. I think we should look to bolster our squad with signings crucial to make top 4. thankyou

Believable10 Unbelievable3

{Ed004's Note - Potentially Garay, Coentrao and Vidal. Not all 3 but they look most likely}

To a certain extent I have to agree with Ed004. Vidal and Coentrao are targets. I have no info to say Garay is a target - he is being used as a smokescreen imo

BRF

Agree0 Disagree0

Garay for a summer move and the other two right now would be ideal. And both could play CL football which is even more appealing to our powers at be.

Agree0 Disagree0

Both Garay and Vidal have played in the UCL this season and I think Coentrao is named in the Real Madrid squad so not sure how that works. Having said that, we need some quality for the league to ensure we qualify for the UCL next season!

Agree0 Disagree0

Coentrao maybe the others no chance. I think we will surprise a lot with how many youth players are making the grade in the first team next season that is for sure Wilson is a nail on to play he starting to fill out and will scare the opposition to death in the not to distant future, he really starting to look world class and is moving between the under 18s and 21s which is a sign there getting him ready for the big jump to first team no loans for this lad I think

Hi Eds, Just seen in the tv transfer blog that a PL club has made an offer for Everton Riberio, is that wss rejected. Is there any indication thay was from us and if so how likely do you think an agreement maybe reached. Thanks :)

Believable6 Unbelievable3

{Ed004's Note - Apparently Spurs}

Ah thanks, seems odd that Spurs want him given the amount of midfielders that they have. If Utd's interest in him remains this may prompt us to act.

Do you get the impression that we are ramping up the recruitment drive?

Agree0 Disagree0

I was just wondering ed, how do you know the bid was from spurs?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - I don't know for definite just rumoured to be them. Ed 2 isn't about}

Hi. I'm not going to claim anything will be 100% true etc - that is just not realistic. I just think it would be cool to share some info as and when it comes through.

This may not be anything new - but I have heard through a source within the club that the deal for one of vidal or pogba may not be out of the question for this transfer window. It would involve nani potentially going the other way (with of course some cash as well). Moyes did not travel to Italy for no reason, and this signals that a deal is very possible.

Also (although no surprise) expect Nick Powell and Jessie Lingard to be given a chance in first team soon - based on the success of Adnan. Moyes has faith in some of the youth at the club - which in my opinion is not a bad thing!

Take care & may see some of you at the weekend ;-)

Believable23 Unbelievable9

Nice post and nothing too contraversial! can't see a pogba return tbh but would love Vidal, ideally now but even in summer. Powell seems to be coming on well according to rossler, looking forward to seeing him back in the fold next season after a full season loan.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd be a little more inclined to believe this if it weren't for the strong rumours linking Nani with a move to Lisbon.

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe one for the conspiracy pages. But maybe the rumours linking nani to Lisbon are only being generated to hurry Juve up?
I can dream!

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks. As I said - just sharing info, even though it is not that controversial etc.

I am not too sure about Nani to Sporting Lisbon? I have not heard anything about this - but will try to investigate lol :-)

One thing I have learnt about football and the many sources over the years is they can often circulate info which suits club interests as well. As I said - I'm just trying to provide some info I have been given!

Agree0 Disagree0

Moyes is the perfect manager to promote youth into the first team the likes of the Keane twins, Wilson, Lingard, Pearson, Powell and Pereria will start to filter through to the first team and if they all live up to expectations then that is 200m+ of talent that we have nurtured rather than brought and that's always the best way not just financially but for moral and loyalty and togetherness

Agree0 Disagree0

From a good source in Italy, media catch images of Moyes agreeing double deal with Juventus for Paul Pogba and Aturo Vidal

Believable10 Unbelievable28

{Ed004's Note - How does that work? Have Vidal and Pogba been pictured being pushed into the back of a truck being driven to manchester? Wouldn't complain if this is true though}

As much as I'd love this to be true I'ma have to call BS.

Agree4 Disagree0

I highly doubt it, Pogba seem reluctant to rejoin us.

Agree3 Disagree0

Ed004- You are far too kind.

Agree1 Disagree0

No ed 004 we got neville giggs round and the rest to put on balaclavas, throw them in a huge cage, drive them to the airport and charter them to manchester. that's how we did it

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - I don't see how this plan could have failed. Genius work and all this time Moyes etc have alibis as they're at other games}

Imposters

I have a sneaking suspicion that account was made for a WUM. No way that could possibly happen.

Very funny guys.

With Holtby looking likely to go back to Schalke - the odds on Draxler leaving are shortening rapidly. Do you guys think he'd suit our style of play?

Believable5 Unbelievable14

No chance. He is injured till March 2014.

Agree1 Disagree1

Quick mover of the ball, can score from anywhere with either foot, can run down the line and cross or cut inside and shoot, tall, fast and strong, I think he'd suit us and the premier league perfectly

Agree0 Disagree0

Listen lads i'm a utd fan for 30 odd years but it seems like we are going backwards chelsea seem to be signing matic and arsenal seemingly in for draxler who have we in the middle only carrick and cleverely who seem to love passing the ball backwards r sidewards never forward if we don't sign I can see us playing europa league for the next couple of years anyone agree

Agree2 Disagree0

I share your concerns fireman10. I think we need to sign a talented creative midfielder and another class defender this january or we WILL miss out on the top 4 this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

I cannot see him moving til the summer, but stranger things have happened.

Eds. A while back we expressed interest in Sofiane Feghouli and I'm hearing that we may be considering making a move this window. Any truth in this?

Believable2 Unbelievable12
